Funeral services and interment for Dolores Grace Main, 81, of Palatine, was held Monday, July 20, 2009 at St. Casmir cemetery in Chicago. She was born Jan. 12, 1928 in Lyons and died Wednesday, July 15 at her home in Palatine. Survivors include her children, David (Elise) Main and Carol (Lawrence) Main-Benner; grandchildren, Annalise Anardi, Amber Lee Anardi and Isabella Main. Mrs. Main was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Andrew Main and daughter, Doreen Anardi.

Prayers were said Friday, July 17, 2009 at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home and a mass was held at Holy Family Church in Inverness for Terrence J. "Terry" Murphy, of Palatine. Burial was at All Saints cemetery. He was born Jan. 12, 1950 in Chicago and died on July 14. He was the son of the late Frank J. and Elizabeth Ann Murphy; brother of Mary Beth Murphy, Susan Juszczyk, Jeanne (Thomas) Rayniak and the late Arlene (the late William) Kearns, the late William F. (Jacqueline) Murphy and the late Frank Jr. (Marsha) Murphy. Dear uncle of his caregiver and niece, Debra Kearns-Hauck and many other nieces and nephews.

Alfred H. Nelson of Schaumburg, formerly of Arlington Hts., died on Friday, July 3, 2009 at Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village. He was born May 4, 1912 in Chicago and was employed by First National Bank of Chicago for 40 years before retiring in 1974. He was an Army veteran of WWII. He is survived by his nieces Janet (John) Marsala and Donna (Dennis) Zuls, his nephew Robert Nelson; his step-children Bruce (Pamela) O'Neil and Roger (Lynnea) O'Neil; and his step-grandchildren. Mr. Nelson was preceded in death by his wife, Grace. A funeral service was held Friday, July 10, at Glueckert Funeral Home in Arlington Hts. Interment was private.

Funeral services were held for Dorothy Elaine Neilson, 78, of Palatine, on Monday, July 13, 2009, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Palatine. Interment followed at Mt. Emblem cemetery. Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home of Palatine handled arrangements. Mrs. Neilson was born Feb. 9, 1931, in Chicago. For 23 years, she worked for High School Dist. 211 as a cafeteria manager. She served and volunteered in several ministries at Immanuel Lutheran. She was the wife of Roy G. Neilson; mother of Denise (Bill Wright) Neilson, Robert (Kelly) Neilson and the late Randall Roy Neilson; grandmother of Megan, Taylor and Chase; sister of Fred (Betty) Moeller and Florence (Wally) Pflug.

Duane R. Paulson, 70, of Des Plaines, died on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at Lutheran General Hospital. He was born Oct. 31, 1938 in Minot, ND. Before his retirement, he was the owner of a furniture refinishing business. Funeral services were held at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home on Sunday, July 5 and at Our Lady of Ransom Church on Monday, July 6. Burial was at Mt. Carmel cemetery. Mr. Paulson is survived by his wife, Camille Paulson; brothers, Paul and Clifford Paulson, Verne (Roberta) Paulson, Gordon (Charlotte) Paulson and Conrad Paulson, Jr.; sisters Sharon Grooms and Sylvia (George) Wadlington.

George A. Polkow, 70, of Lake Geneva, Wisc., formerly of Buffalo Grove, died Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at his home. He was born on Aug. 1, 1938, in Chicago. He had been vice president of Opus North Corp. in Rosemont, a commercial real estate development corporation. He is survived by his wife, Ginny; children, Jennifer (Jay) Frazier, Kimberly (Jeff) Allen and Christopher (Jill) Polkow; 6 grandchildren and brother, Scott (Kathi) Polkow. Mass of Christian Burial was said on Saturday, July 11 in Saint Benedict Catholic Church in Fontana, Wisc.

Prayers for Madeleine Benoist Powell, 87, formerly of Boston, were said on Saturday, July 11, 2009, at Glueckert Funeral Home in Arlington Hts. A Mass followed at St. James Church in Arlington Hts. Interment was in All Saints cemetery, Des Plaines. She was born Apr. 3, 1922, on Galveston Island in Texas. She was a scholar of the writings of the French geologist and Jesuit Priest, Teilhard de Chardin. Mrs. Powell died on Tuesday, July 7 at Lutheran Home and Services in Arlington Hts. She is survived by her husband, Francis D. Powell; children, Mary D., Austin T. (Denise), David C. (Carol), Justin M. (Laura) and Kathryn M. (Alan Kacimi) Powell; 11 grandchildren and her siblings, Dudley Benoist and Patricia Dewey.

A funeral service for Thelma F. Roehrich, 91, of Scottsdale, Ariz., was celebrated on Saturday, July 11, 2009, in the chapel at Oehler Funeral Home in Des Plaines. Burial was in Ridgewood cemetery, Des Plaines. Mrs. Roehrich was born Aug. 12, 1917, in Pequaming, Mich. For over 30 years, she worked in assembly for A.B. Dick Company in Niles. She died Saturday, July 4 in Phoenix, Ariz. She was the wife of the late William Roehrich; mother of Sandra Koeller and Marilyn (Gary) Rose; grandmother to Kevin, Michael, Michelle, Bill, Christopher, Randy, Rebecca and Cynthia; great-grandmother to Cory, Cody, Dalton, Rose and Austin. She was known as "Uffda" by Ian and Madelyn.
Michael F. 'Sonny' Sherman

Michael F. "Sonny" Sherman was born on July 24, 1917, in Chicago. He was a Navy veteran having served during WWII. He was instrumental in the founding of the first Glenview Naval Air Station Navy Band. Mr. Sherman is survived by his sons, James, John (Wendy) and Michael (Kelly) of Eden Prairie; his six grandchildren; his eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Russell (Mary) Sherman and Joe (Alice) Sherman; sister, Mary Jane Zeiger and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia and son, Gary. A memorial service was held at Christian Liberty Academy in Arlington Hts. Interment was private. Glueckert Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Mary Skiles McDonald Eriksen, 94, was born Nov. 7, 1914 in Oak Park. She was an accomplished artist. Some of her work was displayed at the Art Institute of Chicago. She is survived by her children, Susan (James) Kolb, Douglas (Jean) McDonald, and Kristen (Joe) Schurtz; grandchildren Lisa, Michael, Laura, Kelly, Erik, and Luke and her great-grandchildren Nikolas, Acacia, and Abrom. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Francis E. McDonald, and Peter B. Eriksen. A funeral service was held Saturday, July 11 at St. Phillip's Episcopal Church in Palatine. Interment was private. Glueckert Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Jayne Elena Tennant, 47, died on July 12, 2009 at the Rainbow Hospice Ark In Park Ridge. She was born March 7, 1962 in Chicago to Mary Ann and the late Joseph Tennant. Sister of Gerald and John, Judy and Joseph (Kathleen) Tennant, Jeanne Rutkowski and the late Thomas Tennant. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. A funeral service was held on July 16 at Meadows Funeral Home in Rolling Meadows.

She was the wife of the late Roland A.; mother of James Tetmeyer, Linda Tetmeyer Davis, the late Patricia Tetmeyer and the late Arthur Tetmeyer; grandmother of Steven (Jessica) Tetmeyer, Erik (Kimberly) Davis and Jill Davis (Nicholas) Monahan and sister of the late Ernest (Louise) Phillips.

Thomas J. Townsend, 61, of Arlington Hts., died on July 3, 2009 in his home. Mr. Townsend was born March 24, 1948 in Saginaw, Mich., and was the owner of David Thomas Design World in Elk Grove Village. A funeral service was held July 14, at Lauterburg & Oehler Funeral Home. He is survived by Joshua (Erin) Dunderdale, stepson Lane (Cara Eddo) Kagay; five grandchildren; brothers Joe Townsend and Bob Townsend; sister Barbara (Larry) Appleson; and his friend and business partner Dave Roberts. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sara Townsend.

Survivors include his children, Melody (Richard) Gundelach, Douglas (Linda) Uselding, Lynnda Peterson, Cheryl (Emile) Bouchez, Cory (Brad) Lindenberg, Craig (Darleen) Uselding, Karen (Andrew) Jones and Deborah (Lee) Foster; 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; his brother, Robert (Laurie) Uselding and sister-in-law, LaVerne (William) Lemke. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy. Funeral services were held Sunday, July 11 at Laird Funeral Home in West Dundee. Interment was private at Memory Gardens, Arlington Hts.

Services for Carl H. Carlson, 76, were held Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2009, at Christus Victor Lutheran Church in Elk Grove Village. Interment was in Memory Gardens cemetery. Grove Memorial Chapel in Elk Grove Village handled the arrangements. Mr. Carlson was born in Chicago and was an Army veteran. He was a sheet metal worker for 50 years and a supervisor for a printing company. He was the husband of Nancy; father of Robert (Kathy) Carlson, Lori (Tom) Garrity and John (Joana) Carlson; and grandfather of nine.

Robert G. Coop, 84, husband of the late Mary A. Coop and the father of the late Thomas Coop passed away surrounded by his family in Palatine on July 24, 2009. He is survived by his daughter, Therese A. Mattingly; granddaughters, Tiffany Hix and Briana, Kayla and Shea Mattingly; and great-grandchildren, Addison Greer and Cole and Gage Hix. Mr. Coop retired from AT&T after 35 years and also served in the Navy during WWII. Arrangements were made by Cremation Society of Illinois.

She is survived by her sister, Irene Schillinger; her nephew Ronald (Beverly) Schillinger and niece Bonnie Lynn (Steve) Willet. She is preceded in death by her husband, Louis DiPierre. A funeral service was held Wednesday, Aug. 5 at Glueckert Funeral Home in Arlington Hts. with interment at Wheeling Twp. cemetery.

Mary Sue Dillingofski, 64, passed away on August 1, 2009 from complications of pancreatic cancer. She taught at various schools for 13 years and for 27 years she worked in educational publishing in management positions. Her PHD in Reading Education was from the University of Wisconsin. She is survived by Des Plaines resident, brother John Dillingofski and his family. Friends and family are planning a memorial.
