Funeral services for Mildred L. McCaslin (nee Taylor), of Elk Grove Village, were held Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at Swan Lake Chapel at Ridgewood cemetery in Des Plaines. Entombment took place at Ridgewood cemetery. She was the wife of the late Edgar Garfield McCaslin; mother of Sheila Romano, Robin (Richard) Olson, and the late Frank McCaslin; grandmother of six; and great-grandmother of eight.

Of Elk Grove for 50 years
Esther E. McCormick, 78, was born in Kansas City, Mo., on Apr. 22, 1931 and died at home on Aug. 26, 2009 surrounded by her family. She was a Jeff-nominated member of the Artistic ensemble of the Raven Theatre in Chicago since 1986. Memorial visitation took place Friday, Aug. 28 at Grove Memorial Chapel in Elk Grove Village. She was the wife of the late Frank; mother of Moira (Moreno) Espinoza, Bridget (Bill) Piekarz, Michael (Donna), Patrick, Terence and Jamie (Bekki) McCormick; grandmother of four and sister of Peggy Shoebrook.

Loretta Audrey Meissner, 78, of Palatine, died on Aug. 15, 2009. She was the wife of the late, Harry F. Meissner; mother of Patti (Thomas) Blazejak and the late Richard Meissner; grandmother of six and great-grandmother of six; sister and aunt. She was a member of Ladies Auxillary VFW Post 3579 of Park Ridge. Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 21 at Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, Palatine. Interment at Evergreen cemetery, Barrington.
Joseph S. Mihina

Joseph Stephen Mihina, 91, of Arlington Hts., died on Aug. 19, 2009 at Lutheran Home and Services. He was born on May 4, 1918 in New York City and managed the Chemical Manufacturing department at G. D. Searle and Co, before retiring in 1984. Mr. Mihina is survived by his wife, Bettye; daughter, Karen (George) Clifford and son, Steve Mihina. Funeral services were held at St. John the Beloved Chapel at the Lutheran Home in Arlington Hts. Interment was private.

Funeral services for Nora L. Morrison (nee Wood), 88, will be private. Interment will be at Woodlawn cemetery, Guelph Ontario, Canada. She lived the Salvation Army tradition her whole life. She is survived by her children, Nora H. (Dieter) Boeck, Thomas A. (Kathleen) Morrison; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and her sisters. She was preceded in death by her husband, Archie G. Arrangements were handled by Kristan Funeral Home in Mundelein.

Gertrude E. Niebuhr, of Arlington Hts., died on Aug. 24, 2009. She was born on Nov. 5, 1915 in Arlington Hts. She is survived by her grandchildren, Julie (James) Rodriguez and Kenneth N. Jr. (Nikki) Niebuhr; nine great-grandchildren; her sisters, brother and daughter-in-law. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert Niebuhr and her son, Kenneth. Funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 27 at Glueckert Funeral Home, Arlington Hts. with interment at Memory Gardens.

She was the wife of William; mother of William, Linda and Nancy (John) Allen; sister of Alfred Steegmuller and Roland Steegmuller. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 26 at G.L. Hills Funeral Home in Des Plaines. Interment was private.

William J. Parejko, 54, of Niles, died on Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, at Resurrection Medical Center. He was born Sept. 17, 1954, in Chicago. He was employed in the restaurant industry. Emily Marie Peacock, 76, of CD Peacock Jewelry, died on Aug. 13, 2009. She was born on Sept. 11, 1932, and she was a devoted animal lover. She was the daughter of the late Charles Peacock III and Edna Mae; sister of the late Robert E. (Estelle) Peacock. Her funeral was held Tuesday, Aug. 18, from Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home in Glenview to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Glenview. Interment at Memorial Park cemetery.

She was born Jan. 9, 1923, in Des Plaines, and was an R.N. at Lutheran General Hospital. She died on Thursday, Aug. 20 in Park Ridge. She was the wife of the late Leo G.; mother of Grant (Rochelle), Quinn, Ann Gallagher, and the late Edward; grandmother of 10 and sister of Coral Ritzenthaler and the late Edward Jr.

Paul Peter Primak was born Sept. 20, 1917 in Chicago. He died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009, at The Ponds of Wealshire in Lincolnshire. Before retiring, he worked for Walmart and the Arlington Hts. Park District. He served in the Navy during WWII. He is survived by his son, Gary; his son-in-law, Robert Adamczyk and grandchildren, Jason, Rachel and Bobby. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene and his daughter, Diane Adamczyk. Funeral services were held Sunday, Aug. 30, at Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., Arlington Hts. Interment was private.

Thelma Pugsley, 83, of Niles, died on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009 at St. Matthew Center for Health. She was born on Apr. 19, 1926 in Dermott, Ark., and was a tool and dye factory worker before retirement. Funeral services were held at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home on Monday, Aug. 24 and Tuesday, Aug. 25. Burial took place at Riverside cemetery in Montgomery, IL. She is survived by her niece, JoAnn (Herman) Venturini; sister, Barbara Greenway. She was one of 11 siblings.

A funeral mass for Gustaw Sajdak, 74, of Des Plaines, was held Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009, in St. John Brebeuf Church, Niles. Burial was in St. Adalbert cemetery. Arrangements were made by Skaja Terrace Funeral Home, Niles. He worked as a delivery driver for a bakery. Surviving are his widow, Janina; children Krystyna (Jan) Banek and Boguslaw Sajdak; ex-daughter-in-law Jolanta Sajdak; and grandchildren Magdalena Sajdak and Katarzyna and Wiktor Banek.

Ernest A. Saloga, 77, of Lutz, Fla., formerly of Wheeling, died Thursday, Aug. 13, 2009. Survivors include his wife, Carol Saloga; children, Jodi and Ernest Saloga, Sherry (Michael) Chaplain, Cathy Schinler, George Schlangen, Charleen Miller, Carol (Joseph) Lopez, Christine (Richard) Beese and Connie Schlangen; his sister, brothers; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held on Saturday, Aug. 29, at New Testament Worship Center in Tampa Fla.

Joan B. Schaefges was born Feb. 21, 1934 in Oak Park and died Monday, Aug. 17, 2009 at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria. She is survived by her children, Raymond (Coryne) Schaefges, Ann Schaefges, Barbara (Rex) Luhrsen, and Frank (Patricia) Schaefges; her son-in-law; her four grandchildren, two step children and her brother, Gerald Schwartz. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jerome and daughter, Linda Malinowski. Prayers were said Monday, Aug. 24 at Glueckert Funeral Home and Our Lady of the Wayside Church.

Jane G. Seymour, 81, of Arlington Hts., formerly of Rockville, Maryland and Endwell, New York, died Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009, in McHenry. She was born Oct. 7, 1927, in Endwell, New York and moved to Arlington Hts. in 1969. She is survived by her children, Alan R. (Nancy) Seymour; Martin (Nicky) Seymour; Mark (Patrick Volkert) Seymour; Kathy Ewing and Donna (Scott) Nemmers; her six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald. A funeral service was held in Endicott, New York, on Friday, Aug. 28.

She was a volunteer at Gottlieb Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Walter E. Smithe, Sr.; mother of Walter E. (Florence) Smithe, Jr., Nancy M. Waters, Thomas C. (Rosemarie) Smithe and Gary M. (Debbie); grandmother of 14, great-grandmother of 30 and great-great-grandmother of four.

Richard Arthur Steinhaus, 77, of Arlington Hts., died on Aug. 19, 2009. He was the husband of Joan (Knowles) Steinhaus; father of Lynn (James) Helfrich; grandfather of Kimberly and Meryl Helfrich; brother of Gerald (Carroll) Steinhaus. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, four nephews and six nieces. He was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and retired from Plumbers Union Local 130. A funeral service took place Saturday, Aug. 22 at Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home. Interment was at St. Michael the Archangel cemetery, Palatine.

Frank G. Straka, 74, of Wheeling, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 13, 2009, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of the late Barbara; father of Denise (Edward) Minarik, Dawn (Gary) Crumpler and Danette (Thomas) Goggin; grandfather of six; brother and uncle; and loving companion to Nora Bodzioch. Funeral prayers were said on Monday, Aug. 17 at Kolssak Funeral Home in Wheeling and at St. Mary Catholic Church, Buffalo Grove. Interment was at St. Mary cemetery.
