Laurine J. Soderstrom (nee Clark), 83, died Feb. 3 at The Moorings Health Center, Arlington Hts. Soderstrom was born on Oct. 12, 1925 in McPherson, KS. She was a resident of Mt. Prospect and a charter member of Northwest Covenant Church and a retired teller for a local bank. Wife of Raymond C. Soderstrom. Mother of Alan (Jamie) Soderstrom, JoAnne (John) Lightfoot and Brian (Linda) Soderstrom. Grandmother of six. Daughter of the late Manny (nee Wann) and the late Joseph Clark, sister of Charles, Stanley, Fern and Anna Mae. Visitation was Friday, Feb. 6 at Friedrichs Funeral Home, Mt. Prospect. Memorial services were held Saturday, Feb. 7 at Northwest Covenant Church, Mt. Prospect. Interment was private at Ridgewood cemetery.

A funeral mass for Evon A. Stone, of Elk Grove Village, was celebrated Feb. 10 in Queen of the Rosary Church. Interment followed in Queen of Heaven cemetery. She was born in Chicago. She passed away Tuesday, Sept. 4 at her home. She was a homemaker. She is survived by her children, Marjorie Fabros, Phyllis Babila and John Timothy (Susan); grandchildren; Faye (Mark) Melville, Nanette Fabros, Blake Babila; brother, Leonard (Elena) Okon; and nieces and nephews, Lisa (Dan) Lowndes, Michael, and David (Maria) Okon. Mrs. Babila was preceded in death by her husband, John; and sisters, Margaret and Joan.

Interment at St. Michael the Archangel cemetery. Mr. Brown was an Elk Grove resident for 27 years. He worked as a heavy equipment operator. He passed away Saturday, Sept. 1. He is survived by his beloved wife of 27 years, Kathleen Brown nee Allbright, loving children Joseph D. Brown, Robert, Jr. (Jessica) Brown, Kelli Anne, cherished grandchildren Cain Brown, Collin Brown, and Savannah Brown, loving sister Barbara (Dave) Clary, and many loving nieces and nephews.

A native of Chicago, he died Sept. 4 in St. Alexius Medical Center. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was preceded in death by his son, Timothy, and brother, Charles F.

She was a member of Elk VFW Ladies Auxiliary 9284 and the Sheila Ray Senior Center. She passed away Tuesday, Sept. 4 at Lexington of Schaumburg. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Maxwell E. Hongoltz and her son-in-law Tom Young. She is survived by her loving daughter, Maxine (the late Tom) Young, loving grandchildren Thomas (Karen) Young, Lisa (Rick) Hirata, Lyndi Band, Kimberly (Matt) Hetling, five great grandchildren, dearest siblings Morris (Jean) Schnoor, Raymond (Julie) Schnoor, Lillian "Dolly" (Joseph) Mayer, and Shirley (Thomas) Williams.

A funeral service for Rachel "Sue" (nee Maveety) Jensen of Des Plaines, 86, was held Saturday, Sept. 8, at First United Methodist Church in Park Ridge. She passed away Tuesday, Sept. 4. Her pleasures in life were her husband, her girls and grandchildren, friends in Tall Club, needle crafts, kites, her family's history, nature and preservation, poetry, classic movies, history, literature, art, music and more. She is survived by her husband John; children, Joanne, Carol Schroeder, Linda (Dave) Kosar, and Anita; grandchildren, Christopher Marszalek, Dana Schroeder, and Elizabeth (Brian) Siegl. Mrs. Jensen was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Lenoire Maveety and sisters, Lois Lawson and Alice Maveety. A funeral service for Richard L. Jesse, 78, a decorated Korean War veteran and retired comptroller for the Village of Mt. Prospect, was held Sept. 10 in Christ Church United Church of Christ, Des Plaines. Interment followed in McHenry County Memorial Park cemetery, Woodstock. Arrangements were by Friedrichs Funeral Home, Mt. Prospect. A native of Crystal Lake, he died Sept. 5. He earned a Bronze Star for service in the Korean War. He was comptroller of the City of Crystal Lake from 1957-1959 and then served in the same position in Mt. Prospect until 1988. After his retirement, he served as business manager for Christ Church in Des Plaines. He was a member of the American Legion, Moose Lodge #1188, and past president of the Campfire, Metro Chicago Council. He also was past president of the lllinois Government Finance Offices Association and served on the Mt. Prospect Police Pension Board. Surviving are his widow, Rochelle B. Jesse (nee Black); children Jolene (Michael) Sandberg, Deanna (Michael (Tangen), Jennifer (Rev. Keith) Schreiner, David (Tamara), and Traci (Daniel) Sweeney; grandchildren Matthew and Kylie Tangen; Christina, Andrew and Jordan Schreiner; Samuel and Kathryn Jesse; and Jake and Phoebe Sweeney; and a sister, Kathryn Sweeney; and a sister, Kathryn Phelps. A funeral service for Tom P. Kelly of Huntley, 73, took place Wednesday, Sept. 5 at Grove Memorial Chapel. Visitation was the previous day. Mr. Kelly was born May 6, 1934. He was owner of Illinois Broaching Company for nearly 50 years. An avid outdoorsman, he loved the Bears, White Sox, and Notre Dame. He passed away Saturday, Sept. 1 at St. Joseph Medical Center in Elgin. He is survived by his loving wife, Lois Kelly nee Jaynes, beloved sons Tom (Carol) Kelly, Patrick (Rose) Kelly, and Rick (Linda) Cagle, dearest daughter Judi Moretti, treasured grandchildren Ryan (Heather) Moretti, Tommy Moretti, Elizabeth Moretti, Anahi Cagle, Jordan Cagle, Katie Cagle, Shannon Cagle, Kelly Cagle, and Lacy Cagle, great grandchildren Dylan, Brianna, and Alexis, caring sister Peggy (Peter) Skarnulis, and many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Roy C. Knauff of Mt. Prospect, 92, were private. Mr. Knauff was born Apr. 17, 1915 in Chicago. A talented artist, he had various exhibits in Mt. Prospect through the years, and was employed as a commercial artist with Illustro Studio in Chicago for 20 years. He was an Army Veteran of World War II, serving with the tank destroyer battalion overseas. He passed away Tuesday, Sept. 4 at Northwest Community Healthcare. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Florine Knauff nee Moller, and dear nephews Kurt Johnson and Mark Johnson. Funeral arrangements made by Cremation Society of Illinois.

A funeral service for Helen S. Simpson nee Hawrylyszyn, 85, took place on Monday, Sept. 10 at Oehler Funeral Home in Des Plaines. Entombment was at All Saints cemetery in Des Plaines. Visitation was on Sunday, Sept. 9 at the funeral home. Mrs. Simpson was born on July 5, 1922 in Chicago. She worked in accounting and at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. She died at her home on Sept. 7, 2007. Her husband Joseph Brown Simpson preceded her in death. Her daughters Patricia Simpson, Carol Simpson, and Linda (Mike) Bolbot; her grandchildren Joey and Jeffrey Bolbot; her siblings Steven Havark and Ann Kloc; and many nieces and nephews survive her.

A memorial service for Betty June Zintz, of Park Ridge, will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 18 at the Park Ridge Country Club, 636 N. Prospect. Ms. Zintz was born on March 14, 1927 in Chicago. She spent many of her winters in Kauai and always enjoyed traveling supporting her grandchildren's activities, a game of bridge or golf and riding on her horse, Charlie, in Montana. She was a member of the Park Ridge Country Club for 15 years and of the Park Ridge Presbyterian Church for 25 years. She died on Aug. 26, 2007 in Bonita Springs, Florida. She is preceded in death by her husband, Calvin H. Ms. Zintz is survived by her son Bruce Zintz (Callie), daughter Karen Rimel (John), grandchildren Stacie (Zintz) Miceli, Scott Zintz, Heather Rimel and Colin Rimel and great-granddaughter Melisa Miceli. Funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 30 for L. Richard "Dick" Berchardt, 72, of Park Ridge, at Ryan-Parke Funeral Home in Park Ridge. Berchardt spent his entire 43 year career with the Martin Boyer Company, becoming its president in 1972. He continued in that role until the company was bought by Aon Corporation in 1990. Berchardt was one of the leading administrators of self insurance programs nationally. Upon his retirement in 1996, Berchardt and his wife Beverly established the Illinois-based Bochardt Foundation, a foundation dedicated to giving to "smaller causes and entities often overlooked by major charitable organizations." Berchardt is survived by his wife of 54 years, Beverly (Hallas), sons Scott (Judy) and Kirk (Cecilia), daughters Pamela Drehmel (Robert) and Carol Novak (Dan) and grandchildren Jim, John and Haley Novak; Sam, Jake and Angela Drehmel; Ryan and Riley Borchardt.
