Ms. Fedanzo was born Oct. 24, 1919. The homemaker passed away Thursday, Oct. 4. She is preceded in death by her husband, Samuel J. Fedanzo, her parents, Pietro and Vincenza nee Caselnuovo Fazio, and two children, Ginny and Thomas. She is survived by sons Michael Theodore Fedanzo and Michael (Jan) Fedanzo and daughter Terry (John) Tyndall, grandchildren Rich Tyndall, Lori (Al) Albano, Joe (Terri) Tyndall, Matt Tyndall, Joe Ferdanzo, Jennifer (Duane) Laba, and Nicole Fedanzo, great grandchildren Brie, Danielle, Michael, and Nicky, and friend Marie Anderson. A funeral service for Robert Jaacks, 75, of Niles, was held Wednesday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 9081 N. Maryland, Niles. Burial in Ridgewood cemetery. Mr. Jaacks died on Sept. 29. He was born in Chicago on Sept. 10, 1932. He was a life-long resident of Niles and owned and operated Rustic Wood Fence in Niles since 1963. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Korea. He is survived by his wife, Patricia (nee) Engh; son, Randall (Gina) Jaacks; daughter, Jeri (John) Thomson; grandchildren, Ryan, Jennifer, Julie, Colleen, Kimberly, Kevin, Bobby; brother, John (Lynn) Jaacks; sisters, Carole Jaacks and Judith (Tom) Knowles; sister-in-law Eleanor (Bill) O'Shaughnessy; uncle to many nieces and nephews. A funeral service for Bernice Jezierski (nee Bilewicz) of Des Plaines, 87, was held Friday, Oct. 5 at St. Emily Church. Visitation was held the day before at Friedrichs Funeral Home in Mt. Prospect. Interment was held at All Saints cemetery in Des Plaines. She was born on May 3, 1920 in Poland. She passed away Tuesday, Oct. 2 at her home. She was a homemaker. She is survived by her children, Walter (Anna), Henry (Connie), and Andrew; grandchildren, Michael (Misty), Jennifer and Peter Jezierski; and great-grandson, Joseph Jezierski. Mrs. Jezierski was preceded in death by her husband, Wladyslaw; son, Richard; parents, Emilia and Jan Bilewicz; and sibling, Wilhelm.

Interment at Irving Park cemetery. Mr. Koehler was born July 14, 1916 in Chicago. The electro-chemical researcher passed away Wednesday, Oct. 3 at his home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, nee Bukoll, Koehler, and his parents Paul and Augusta, nee Greenberg, Koehler. He is survived by his daughter Joanne (Edward) Peterson, grandchildren Cathryn Wadsworth, Christen (David) Gingerich, and Erik (Amy) Fjell, great grandchildren Daniel Wadsworth, Jessica Wadsworth, Levi Gingerich, Thomas Gingerich, Jackson Fjell, Bryce Fjell, and many nieces and nephews. She was born on Apr. 17, 1932 in Poland. She passed away Wednesday, Oct. 3 at home. She was a homemaker. She was born on June 1, 1914 in Greensburg, Pa. She passed away Tuesday, Sept. 25 at St. Andrew Life Center. She was a homemaker. She is survived by her niece, Marie Olson and other nieces and nephews; and many friends. Mrs. Kwiatkowski was preceded in death by her husband, Leon; siblings, Catherine (late Stephen) Bleiziffer and Joseph (the late Helen) Yonus; and parents, John and Martha (nee Orlowsky) Yonus.

A funeral service for Beatrice Jeanette Landreth, 85, took place on Monday, Oct. 8, at Meadows Baptist Church in Rolling Meadows. Visitation was Sunday at Meadows Funeral Home. Mrs. Landreth was born on June 30, 1922 in Stelvideo, Ohio. She attended the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago then worked with Youth Home Missions. She later married
and moved to Rolling Meadows in 1963. She worked at Northwest Community Healthcare Center and Northrup, was a member of Meadows Baptist Church, and was active in the American Legion Auxiliary. She loved to serve her Lord and Savior and served in many Christian ministries. She died on Oct. 2, 2007. Her parents Clem and Ruth Brewer and her sister Isabelle (Glenn) Fourman preceded her in death. She is survived by Paul, her husband of 58 years; her daughters Ruth Wood, Janet (Steve) Sharpmack, and Carol (Mark) Kohl; her grandchildren Heather (Chris) Krupa, Hannah Wood, Matthew (Cindy) Sharpmack, Michael (Sheila) Sharpmack, Andrea Kohl, Brian Kohl, and Carolyn Kohl; her brother Donald (Maryalice) Brewer, and many nieces and nephews and cousins. Edward J. Leone, 87, of Mesa, Arizona, died Oct. 5. He was born and raised in Chicago and went to Lane Technical High School. Mr. Leone lived in Des Plaines from 1960 until 2001 when he and his wife, Mary (nee Yacona) moved to Arizona. His parents were the late James and Della (nee Pishotta) Leone. In addition to Mary, his wife of 60 years, Mr. Leone is survived by daughters Lisa Anderson (Russell) of Mesa, AZ and Nina Leona of Bartlett, IL; grandchildren Tracy Anderson (Kevin-Eau Claire) and Matthew Anderson (Beth); and great-grandchildren Dana, Katie, Kyle and Enzo, all of Mesa, AZ. "My dad was one of the 'greatest generation, ' " stated Lisa Anderson, one of Edward's daughters. "He loved going to garage sales. Could fix anything. Was good with electronics. He worked for a number of businesses in Des Plaines before working for himself." Mr. Leone was a staff sergeant stationed in Burma, India in the early 1940s. Always has a handlebar moustache." "He was the salt of the Earth. Always moseying around town. At 87, he still had an awful lot of dark hair. Was young at heart. Helped people when he could. Was loved by everyone. We're all missing him, " said Anderson.

Visitation and a funeral service for Sandra L. Linneweh, 59, took place Monday, Oct. 8, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Des Plaines. Miss Linneweh was born on Oct. 5, 1947 in Des Plaines. She worked as an administrative assistant for School Dist. 207 and died on Oct. 4, 2007 at St. Matthew Center for Health in Park Ridge. Her parents Amanda, nee Tackman, and Edward Linneweh preceded her in death. Her cousins, many dear friends, and her little pumpkin, Maxwell, survive her. A funeral service for Lorraine F. McGurn, 84, of Mt. Prospect, will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow (Thursday, Oct. 11) at St. Raymond Church. She was born on Nov. 22, 1932 in Chicago. She passed away Monday, Sept. 24 at Church Creek Nursing Home. She had worked as a legal secretary for Sears. She is survived by her siblings and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.

DR. KENNETH L. PIEST
Award-Winning Ophthalmologist
Dr. Kenneth L. Piest, 53, a native of Des Plaines, passed away on Friday, Oct. 5 in San Antonio, TX. "He was a loving brother, cared about everyone. He loved his cats, " stated sister Kerry Piest. "He researched leukemia to save his life. That was his mission and that was why the foundation (Ken Piest Bone Marrow Drives) was established, to find Ken a match and everyone else, so people wouldn't have to go through this." Piest was born Jan. 17, 1954 in Laurium, Mich., was raised in Des Plaines and attended Maine West High School. He graduated from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago in 1984 and completed his internship in Chicago and his ophthalmology residency in San Antonio. Mr. Piest served on the full-time faculty at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio until starting his solo, private practice in 1995.
Piest's varied volunteer work included acting as medical advisor for the Texas Neurofibromatosis Foundation. He was also director for ophthalmic care for F.A.C.E.S. (Facial Anomalies Clinic and Extended Services), a non-profit, multi-specialty organization devoted to assisting children with complex craniofacial disorders. Dr. Piest and his family and friends formed a non-profit foundation, "Ken Piest Bone Marrow Drives, " and a website, www.saveken.org, to find bone marrow matches and to be placed on the National Bone Marrow Registry and Blood Drives to help all cancer patients. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Piest; and a younger brother, Robert Piest, who was the last victim of serial killer John Wayne Gacy. He is survived by his cats Leuke and Mia. He is also survived by his mother, Elizabeth Piest; a sister, Kerry Piest of Des Plaines; his Texas family, Jennifer Stahl, Shelby, Cristina and Minerva Stahl. Ms. Szmurlo was born in Stargard Szczecinski, Poland. She came to the U.S. in 1973. She passed away on Friday, Aug. 31 at Resurrection Hospital. She is preceded in death by her parents. A funeral Mass for Margaret C. Warchol, nee Claxton, 81, took place Tuesday, Sept. 25 at St. Thomas of Villanova in Palatine. Interment was at St. Michael the Archangel in Palatine. Visitation was Monday, Sept. 24 at Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home in Palatine. Mrs. Warchol was born on June 17, 1926 in West Frankfort, Ill. She was a great cook and loved to read. She loved golf, tennis, bridge, and boating with her husband. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and was always positive, helpful, and cooperative. She died at The Wealshire in Lincolnshire on Sept. 21, 2007. She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond P. Warchol and her parents Coleman and Opal nee Throop Claxton. Her daughters Carol (Don) Bennett and Judith L. Warchol; her grandchildren Emily (Matthew) Clarke, John R. Bennett, and Sarah C.
