A funeral service for Helen M. Harper (nee Wetstone), 97, took place Monday, Nov. 5 at Oehler Funeral Home in Des Plaines with Rev. Virginia Ericson presiding. Interment was at Ridgewood Memorial Park in Des Plaines. Visitation was Sunday, Nov. 4 at the funeral home. Mrs. Harper was born on Dec. 13, 1909. She worked as a secretary for Benjamin Electric in Des Plaines and died at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Her sisters Pearl Doyle and Margarite Wetstone preceded her in death. Her brother Edward (Sue) Wetstone, her nieces and nephews Karen Bachmura, Edward (Karen) Wetstone, Carol (John) Koeune, Dorothy (Richard) Schwarz, and James (Diane) Kucera, 10 great nieces and nephews, and two great-great nieces and nephews survive her.

A funeral service for Joseph D. Hora of Niles, 90, will be held tomorrow (Thursday) at St. Juliana Church at 10 a.m. proceeding from Skaja Terrace Funeral Home at 9:15 a.m. Visitation is today from 4 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment at St. Adalbert cemetery on Milwaukee Avenue. Mr. Hora worked for Sears in the typewriter repair department. The Niles Senior Citizen Club member and Navy Veteran passed away Tuesday, Oct. 30 at Resurrection Medical Center. He is preceded in death by his wife Helen Hora and his parents, Joseph and Emily nee Kozojed Hora. He is survived by nephews Thomas Marek, Randall Hora, niece Joan Hora-Kuehn, and sister-in-law Muriel Trebass-Hora.

A funeral service for August J. Kahles, 75, took place Monday, Nov. 5, at Meadows Funeral Home in Rolling Meadows. Interment was at St. John cemetery in Arlington Heights. Visitation was Sunday, Nov. 4 at the funeral home. Mr. Kahles was born on Jan. 5, 1932 in Wisc. He worked as a wireman for a manufacturing company. He died on Nov. 1, 2007 at Northwest Community Healthcare Center in Arlington Heights. His wife Agnes R. nee Dennel and his daughter Rosemarie (Javier) Madrigal preceded him in death. His daughters Linda (Daniel) Lemmon and Margaret (Ruben) Mexquitic, his 12 grandchildren, and his 20 great-grandchildren survive him.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Nov. 5 for Mary W. Kemp at the St. Isaac Jogues Church in Niles. Kemp was born in 1925 and passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2007. Kemp worked in politics as an administrative assistant. She is survived by her daughters; Patricia (Tom) Klemends and Nartha (Alex) Hasso; sons William (Susan) Kemp and Philip (Jenny) Kemp; brother William (Ann) Walsh and grandchildren Jenny, Dawn, Nicole, Philip, Michael, Kathryn, Kelly, Danielle and Emily, and an aunt to many. She was preceded in death by husband Vernon E. Kemp, father Leonard Walsh, mother Grace (nee Heinemann) Walsh and brother Edward (late Barbara) Walsh.

A funeral mass for Ann M. Rink (nee Left), 99, of Arlington Hts., formerly of Rolling Meadows, was celebrated in St. Colette Church. Burial will be in St. Boniface cemetery, Chicago. Arrangements are by the Meadows Funeral Home. A native of Beaver Island, Michigan, she died Oct. 30 in Arlington Rehabilitation Center, Long Grove. She worked for Maybelline as an administrator for more than 33 years. Widow of the late Russel Rink, she is survived by children Maureen Rink, Kay (Larry) Newell; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert; four brothers, and two sisters.

Smith was a resident of Des Plaines for 44 years who lived in McHenry for the last year and a half. Smith was born on Oct. 19, 1940 in Milwaukee. She was the wife of the late James E. Smith, Sr. She is survived by her sons; James E. (Debbie) Smith Jr., Kenneth Smith, Mark (Laurie) Smith, Jeff Smith and Scott Smith; daughters, Kathy Smith, Jamie York and Dawn Smith; brother Dennis (Patti) Owens; grandmother to 20 and great-grandmother of one. She was one of the first females to be licensed by the State of Illinois as a private investigator and, running her own business in the 70s. She died on Nov. 2, 2007 at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. She is preceded in death by her husband Ray and daughter Barbara (Leroy) Rakoski. Ms. Thorsen is survived by son Ray (Jean), grandchildren Lisa (Tim) Battistoni, Kristen (Mike) Liyeos, Emily Rakoski, Megan (Chris) Wallace, Kelly and Alec Thorsen and Patrick Behm and great-grandchildren Jim, Bell and Jackson Battisoni, M.J. and Grace Liyeos and Kaitlin and Rachael Wallace.

She was a retired bookkeeper for Hawthorn Melody Dairy, Dean Dairy and Loop Office Machines Warehouse Number 4. She was also a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Evanston. She passed away Monday, Oct. 29 at home. She is preceded in death by her husband Irving P. Wilson, her parents, and three siblings. Prospect today (Friday), 9 a.m. until Mass at 10 a.m. Interment will be in All Saints cemetery, Des Plaines. He was born on Feb. 26, 1924 in Campofelice Di Roccella, Sicily. Mr. Buttadauro was a member of the Santa Rosalia Society. He was a retired employee of DeSoto Co. in Des Plaines with 10 years of service. He also worked for Motorola Franklin Park and Zenith Radio. He was the husband of Maria Buttadauro (nee Polizzotto), father of Salvatore (Phyllis) Buttadauro and Marcello (Patty) Buttadauro; grandchildren, Maria Therese Buttadauro; siblings, Elvira Difiglia and Gina Buttadauro and sister-in-law Elizabeth Cesare. Mr. Gaines was born Jan. 28, 1924 in Chicago. He graduated from the University of Illinois Engineering College summa cum laude when he was just 19. He was vice president of Manufacturing for Vance Industries for 20 years. He passed away on Oct. 30 at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Bette nee Ward Gaines, his children Elizabeth (Robert) Ross and Daniel (Viviane Paltan) Gaines, and his grandchildren Tommy Ross and Lucas Allen Paltan-Gaines. Michael J. Kennedy, 55, of Rolling Meadows, died Oct. 26 in Resurrection Hospital, Chicago. A visitation was held for him at Meadows Funeral Home on Oct. 29. A native of Detroit, Michigan, he was a retired U.S. Army non-commissioned officer. He worked for TSA as a security guard at O'Hare Airport. Eric G. Kostelny, 26, of Des Plaines died on Oct. 27. He was a 1999 graduate of Maine West High School and a member of Medinah Country Club. He was born on Nov. 6, 1980. "Eric was the most valuable player on the high school golf team during his junior and senior year, " stated his mother, Nancy. "He was on the team for four years. He was a member of the Medinah Country Club junior program. He loved the Cubs. Liked to play softball. Had a lot of friends. Also, he had an associates degree in Liberal Arts from Oakton Community College." Mrs. Kostelny added that Eric played and loved the drums. He was in a band and loved music.
"He went to Central School and Algonquin Jr. High, " she said. "He was in the Little League at Central and while at Algonquin, he was inducted into the National Honor Society." According to his friend, Ken Anderson, "Eric was an avid sports fan, period! He was very bright, made a lot of home video movies, was a friend to everyone and was good at all he did." The boys had been friends since grammar school. Visitation was held from 3 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 30. Funeral service and burial will be private. Kostelny is survived by his parents John and Nancy Kostelny, brother John (Bridget) Kostelny; sister Cindy (Phil) Arndt; nephew Jason Arndt; aunts and uncles Ann and Steve Janci; Evelyn and Gene Landen and many cousins.
