A funeral service for Halina Tomaszewski, 77, will take place today (Wednesday), Oct. 17, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Ransom Church in Niles. Interment will be at Maryhill cemetery. Visitation was Tuesday, Oct. 16 at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home in Niles. Mrs. Tomaszewski was born on Oct. 22, 1929. She died on Oct. 13, 2007 at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Her husband Edward, her parents Tadeusz and Katarzyna Pawlak, and her siblings Teresa (late Edward) Kielar and Roman Pawlak preceded her in death. Her children Barbara and Richard (Marzanna) Tomaszewski, her grandchild Monika Tomaszewski, and her brother Bolek (Josephine) Pawlak survive her.

A private funeral service will be held for Theada Bara Waage (nee Morgan), 83. Mrs. Waage died on Friday, Oct. 12, at Lexington of Wheeling nursing home. She was born on Feb. 11, 1924 in St. Joseph, MO. She had worked as a clerk in medical records at Norwegian American Hospital in Chicago.

Army veteran of Arlington Heights
A funeral service for Roy Del Vecchio of Arlington Heights, 84, was held Monday, Nov. 26 at St. James Church in Arlington Heights. Visitation was held the day before at Glueckert Funeral Home in Arlington Heights. He was born Oct. 13, 1923 in Chicago. He passed away Thursday, Nov. 22 at Northwest Health Care Center in Arlington Heights. He retired in 1985 after 40 years of being a carpenter with Capital Cement in Chicago. He served in the Army during WWII. He was also an active member of St. James Church where he coached basketball for 20 years and participated in the men's golf league. He is survived by his wife, Adeline "Sandi" (nee Szczepkowski); children, William (Karen), Joseph (Kristina), Joan (Brian) Lazarz, Peter (Robin), and James (Susan); grandchildren, Julie, Denise, Danny, Aurora, Alex, Maddie, Nick, Michael, Claire, Lauren, Jimmy and Joey; brothers, James (Genevieve) and John (Betty); and sister-in-law, Mary Del Vecchio. Mr. Del Vecchio was preceded in death by his parents, John and Julia (nee Rocco); sisters, Follie (Lenny) Larsen and Mary (Mel) Tipton; and his brothers, Anthony and William. Interment was held following the mass. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. James Church.

A funeral Mass for Edwin F. Haase, 88, took place on Saturday, Nov. 24, at St. Thomas Becket Church in Mt. Prospect. Mr. Haase died on Tuesday, Nov. 20, at Glenbrook Hospital in Glenview. He was born on May 29, 1919 in Chicago. He served in the Army during World War II and was involved in the liberation of Dachau concentration camp. Before retiring in 1992, Mr. Haase worked as a machinist for many years.

A funeral Mass for Roman J. Lawnik of Park Ridge, 95, took place Saturday, Nov. 24 at Ryan-Parke Funeral Home. Visitation was Friday. Interment at Maryhill cemetery in Niles. Mr. Lawnik is preceded in death by his beloved wife Jozefa. He is survived by his beloved daughters Alice (the late Jerry) Lisiecki and Mary (Gregory) Lenard, grandchildren Christine Lisiecki, Barbara (John) Morgan, Nicole, Derek (Bridget), and Kurt Lenard, dear great-grandchildren Josie Morgan and Aisling Lenard, Doris Gonczy, a special, loving friend, and many beloved nieces and nephews in Poland. A memorial service for Thomas Blair McLaughlin of Palatine, 76, will be held Saturday, Dec. 1, at Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home in Palatine at 4 p.m. Visitation will be held at the same location prior to the service. He was born on Dec. 12, 1930 in Englewood, NJ. He passed away Monday, Nov. 12 at his home. He was a U.S. Marine veteran serving in the Korean Conflict. He was the founder and owner of Palatine Chiropractic where he worked until retiring from full-time practice in 1988. He was also a charter member of the Palatine Rotary Club, 20-year member on the board of trustees and past two-time Alumni President of the Logan College of Chiropractic of Chesterfield, Mo. He is survived by his children, Dr. Michael J. (Debra), Dr. Christine M., Dr. Donna M.; grandchildren, Blair Ryan, Cassandra Ann and Lauren Dawn McLaughlin, Dawn, Melissa and Carmen Petrucci Jr.; great grandson, Donovan Crecy; siblings, Bobbie Brault and Catherine Bevilaqua; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. McLaughlin was preceded in death by his wife, Odilia Marie. Interment was private. In lieu of flowers memorials would be appreciated for Journey from PADS to HOPE for the PADS Program.

A funeral service for Dale L. Mulholland, 73, of Elk Grove, was held on Monday, Nov. 19 at Grove Memorial Chapel. Visitation was held on Sunday, Nov. 18 at the funeral home. Interment was at Memory Gardens cemetery. Mr. Mulholland worked with Forbes Electric for 43 years and also was a driver for Ace Cab Rental. He was also a Marine veteran of the Korean War. He passed away on Nov. 15, 2007 at Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove. He is survived by his wife Elouise, daughters Pam (Paul) Nadler and Cindy Mulholland and grandchildren Michael (Ashley Chacon) and Michelle Nadler. A funeral Mass for Alexander A. Pierog of Mt. Prospect, 86, took place Thursday, Nov. 29, at Friedrichs Funeral Home. Visitation was Wednesday. Interment at St. Adalbert cemetery. Alex was born June 8, 1921 in Chicago. Alex was retired from U.S. Steel Supply Div. He served as an M.P. for the Army during World War II, and was a member of the St. Zachary Goldenaires and V.F.W. Post 3579 in Park Ridge. He died Sunday, Nov. 25. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Kunegunda Pierog, brothers Casimir Pierog and Edwin Pierog, and a sister, Estelle Tomczyk. He is survived by his beloved wife Phyllis G. Pierog, his dear children Ronald Pierog, Claudia (Michael Yeager) Pierog, Karen Pierog and David Pierog, cherished grandchildren Leigh and Scott Pierog, and fond sisters Adeline Purchase and Helen Palmer. A funeral service for Helen Polkow (nee Dabrowski) of Lake in the Hills and formerly of Mt. Prospect, 88, was held Saturday, Nov. 24 at Holy Family Parish in Inverness. Visitation was held the day before at Friedrichs Funeral Home in Mt. Prospect. She was born on May 5, 1919 in Chicago. She passed away Tuesday, Nov. 20 at St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates. She retired from Motorola in Schaumburg after 37 years of service. She is survived by her children, Judy (Ron) Laboda, Donna (Steve) Branz and Karen (John) Gawlik; grandchildren, David (Jackie) Laboda, Kristine (Joe) Crute, Jeffrey Laboda, Stephen (Shannon) Branz, Michael (fiancée Joann Sakonyi) Branz, Jennifer Branz, Joseph (Jenni) Gawlik, Kelly Gawlik and Kristen (James) Russo; and great-grandchildren, Ryan and Rachel Laboda and Nathan Crute. A funeral service for Lynn Edwin Salier of Arlington Hts., 75, took place Monday, Nov. 26 at Friedrichs Funeral Home in Mt. Prospect followed by graveside services at Van Buren cemetery. Visitation was Friday. Lynn was born May 26, 1932 in Lanark, Ill. He graduated from Freeport High School in 1951 and from Knox College in Galesburg in 1956. His continued active involvement with Knox earned him a Knox College Service Award in 2007. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi and maintained a life-long friendship with his fraternity brothers. Lynn earned a MS degree in Counseling from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb in 1967. He worked as an educator and counselor at Elk Grove High School in Elk Grove Village until his retirement in 1995. He enjoyed bowling, playing pool, bridge, and cribbage. Lynn's wide range of interests, inquisitive nature, endless enthusiasm for life, and strength of spirit will live on in the hearts and minds of those who knew him. Lynn is survived by his loving wife and partner of 6-1/2 years, Dawne Salier, two daughters, Nicole (Sergel) Okhokhonin and Natasha (David) Schnell, a granddaughter, Sawyer Schnell, a brother, Allan Salier, and his nephew, Gary Salier.

Bob & Nancy have three wonderful daughters who through the years brought them much happiness and made them so proud. He is survived by his wife Nancy of St. Joseph; two daughters - Libby (Ted) Baker of Gurnee, IL and Lynn Smolinski of Wexford, PA; son-in-law Ronald Schults of St. Joseph; eight grandchildren - Michael, Anne and Kathryn Smolinski; Erik and Sophia Schults; Forrest, Thomas and John Baker; two cousins - Lorraine Mandolini of Glenview, IL and Ronald Kargol of Chicago, IL. He was preceded in death by his loving daughter Dr. Lory A. Schults on January 22, 2004.
