June Gierahn, 86, a former Journal & Topics Newspapers columnist and long-time Des Plaines resident, died Feb. 13 in Tempe, AZ. A funeral service and burial took place in Tempe. She lived at Hospice of the Valley in Tempe since 2000. She served as PTA president at Orchard Place School in Des Plaines, and wrote a column, "Shades of Orchard Place, " about activities and personalities in the Orchard Place neighborhood in south Des Plaines. She is survived by her daughter, Bridget Gierahn of Mesa, AZ, a sister, Virginia Anderson of Rhode Island, and a brother, Jack Rodger, of California. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Rose Rodger; a sister, Doris Rodger; and a brother, Alfred Rodger. Her first husband, John Hagg, was killed in action in World War II, and her second husband, Albert Gierahn, preceded her in death in 1996.

A funeral Mass for Marilyn F. Ginter, 74, of Elk Grove Village, was held Tuesday, Feb. 19 at Queen of the Rosary Church in Elk Grove Village. She died Saturday, Feb. 16 at Alexian Bros. Medical Center, with interment at Maryhill cemetery in Niles. She was a 25-year employee of Bang & Olufsen Corp. and former president of VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post #9284. Mrs. Ginter is survived by children, Jim, Kurt (Lisa) and Corinne (Robert) Galladora; grandchildren, Kristina, Jennifer, Rachel, Erik, Justin, Michael and Matthew; sibling, Melvin Poblocki. Preceding Mrs. Ginter in death were her husband, Tom; parents, Peter and Margaret Poblocki.

A funeral service for Christine Anne Graham, 16, of Des Plaines will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Mar. 3, at Meadows Funeral Home in Rolling Meadows. Visitation will take place from 3 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Mar. 2, at the funeral home. Interment will be at Memory Gardens cemetery. Ms. Graham was born on Mar. 3, 1992 in Park Ridge. She passed away on Monday, Feb. 25, 2008 at Lutheran General Hospital. She is survived by parents Christopher (Bridget) and Tina, siblings Teresa (Jeff) Forsberg, Jade, Damian and Dragon, grandparents James and Patricia Jirkovsky and Ronald and Gloria Graham and niece Adriana Forsberg.

Mr. Hall was born Dec. 28, 1983, and died Saturday, Feb. 16. She passed away Thursday, Feb. 14. She worked for the J. Walter Thompson Agency before retiring. She is survived by her nephew, Robert Juliano. She passed away Friday, Feb. 22 at her home. She is survived by her children, Michael P. (Arielle) and Maureen A. She was born Feb. 18, 1972 in Des Plaines and died Thursday, Feb. 21. She was a nurse at Northwest Community Hospital. She is survived by husband, Kevin; children, Jack, Zachary and Samantha, parents, Glen and Sharon (nee Cada) Niebuhr; sibling, Jason Niebuhr.

A funeral Mass for August "Bud" LaMantia, 71, formerly of Des Plaines, took place on Saturday, Feb. 23, at St. Julian Eymard Church. Interment was at Mt. Carmel cemetery in Hillside. Mr. LaMantia was born in Chicago. He was a former firefighter and a meat cutter. He was a member of the Des Plaines Elks Club, worked at the Fox Run Golf Range for many years, and enjoyed golf, bowling, and traveling. He died at his home after a lengthy illness. His brother Joseph and his grandson Alex preceded him in death. His wife of 50 years, Virginia; his children David (Leeann) and Richard (Stacy) LaMantia and Debra (Thomas) Kleszyk; his siblings Sam LaMantia and Mary Ann (Les) Mueller; and his grandchildren Nicole, Stephanie, Matthew, Kathryn, Thomas, and Nicholas survive him.

A funeral service for Stella S. Petroske, 85, of Niles, was held Friday, Feb. 22 at St. Juliana Church. Visitation took place Thursday, Feb. 21, at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home and interment was held at All Saints Mausoleum in Des Plaines. Mrs. Petroske was born May 29, 1922 in Chicago, and died Monday, Feb. 18 at Lutheran General Hospital. She worked as a supervisor in the manufacturing business. Mrs. Petroske is survived by husband, Walter; children, Wayne (Connie), Janice and Charlotte (Pat); siblings, Sophie and Al (Eileen); grandchildren, Patrick, Colleen, Rachel, Wally, Lauren and Frankie; two great-grandchildren. A funeral service for Edward Adam Taunk, formerly of Des Plaines, will be held at 11 a.m. today (Friday), Mar. 1, at Christ Church in Des Plaines. Visitation will take place from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be at Memory Gardens cemetery, Mr. Taunk was born Aug. 13, 1912 in Des Plaines. He was a production manager for over 40 years at Ma Brown Preserves. He later worked at Northside International for five years. Mr. Taunk was in the first graduating class at Maine East High School and was a member of the Des Plaines Elks Club, the Izaak Walton League and Christ Church. He passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008 at Vintage on the Ponds in Sugar Creek, Wisconsin. He is preceded in death by his wife Edith and parents Walter and Caroline. Mr. Taunk is survived by his daughter Karen (Thomas) Meier, grandchildren Kim (Michael) Schultze and Scott Meier, great-grandchildren Jacob, Cole and Emma, brother-in-law Russell Gilmore and sister-in-law Dorothy Gilmore. Mrs. Will was born on Dec. 9, 1906 in Chicago. She had two years of college at the University of Illinois and was a retired bookkeeper for Johns-Manville.
