A funeral service Fred J. Skorniak, 84, of Niles, was held Monday, June 16, at St. John Brebeuf Church. Visitation took place Sunday, June 15 at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home. Interment was at St. Adalbert cemetery. Mr. Skorniak was born May 14, 1924 in Chicago. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and worked as a letter carrier for the post office for many years. He passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2008 at Lutheran General Hospital. Ms. Skorniak is preceded in death by wife Nina (Gunia), parents Joseph and Honorata and sister Helen Powell. He is survived by wife Franciszka (Baj), sisters Frances Kedzior and Dorothy Larson and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service Theodore J. Stolarz, 80, of Park Ridge, was held Saturday, June 7, at Ryan-Parke Funeral Home. Visitation took place Friday, June 6, at the funeral home. Interment was at Maryhill cemetery. Mr. Stolarz was professor emeritus at Chicago State University (formerly Chicago Teachers College) and a graduate of Northwestern University. He is preceded in death by parents Joseph and Veronica and brother Edward J. He is survived by many dear friends.

A funeral service for James Leland Stowe, of Mt. Prospect, will be held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday, June 18) at St. Edna Catholic Church in Arlington Heights. Visitation took place Tuesday, June 17, at Glueckert Funeral Home. Interment will be at All Saints cemetery. Mr. Stowe was born on Nov. 17, 1932 in Fort Madison, Iowa. He is an Air Force veteran of the Korean War and worked for 33 years at AT&T; as an engineer and account manager. He passed away on June 14, 2008 in Mt. Prospect. Mr. Stowe is survived by wife Mary Joyce, children Victoria (Charles) Barnard, Debra (Thomas) Ruberto, Michael (Lynn) Stowe and James (Terri) and grandchildren Amanda Bernard and Lauren, Rachel, Emily and Allison Stowe.

A funeral mass for Michael Sullivan, 69, took place on Tuesday, June 17 at Mary, Seat of Wisdom Church. Interment was at All Saints cemetery in Des Plaines. Visitation was on Monday, June 16 at Cooney Funeral Home in Park Ridge. Mr. Sullivan was a native of Scartaglin County Kerry, Ireland and a member of Local #399. He died on June 13, 2008. His son Michael (Karen Zelic) preceded him in death. His wife Nora Mai (nee Healy); his children Patrick (Maureen), Cathleen (Michael) Mullane, Joan (Tom) McNamara, Noreen (Mike) Hart, and Shawn; his grandchildren Michael, Brendan, Patrick, Sheila, Thomas, Samuel, Mathew, Maura, Michael, and Mairead; and his siblings Patrick O'Sullivan and Katherine Jakich survive him. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Children's Memorial Hospital "Neuroblastoma" in the name of Michael Healy Sullivan are appreciated.

A memorial mass for Elizabeth R. Whitnell, 84, took place on Monday, June 9 at Our Lady of the Wayside Church in Arlington Heights. A committal service was Tuesday, June 10 in Scranton, Iowa. Mrs. Whitnell was born on Apr. 3, 1924 in Scranton, Iowa. She moved to Chicago and worked at Better Homes and Gardens in Chicago before becoming a homemaker. She moved to Arlington Heights in 1959 where she was an active member of Our Lady of the Wayside Church, a longtime volunteer at Northwest Community Healthcare Center, and an avid bridge player. She died on June 4, 2008 at Westbury Care Center in Lisle. Her husband Verne, her parents, her sister Kay Kidwell, her brother Edward Holden, and her daughter-in-law Patty preceded her in death.

He was a graduate of Mundelein High School and attended Southwest Florida Community College. He worked as an eye technician for over 20 years. In 2006, he obtained his real estate license. Last year, he worked at Akorn Pharmaceuticals as a sales representative. He is survived by his mother, Mae; friend; Carl Niebour; sister, Laurie (Keith) Porter; brothers, Chuck (Barb) and Skip (Laurie); nieces, Cayla Porter, Brittany Ashley, Corinne and Cali Behrendt; and nephew, Chase Behrendt. She passed away Wednesday, June 18 at Holy Family Health Center in Des Plaines. She is survived by her children, Kenneth (Rita), Robert (Joan) and Mary (David) Reinhardt; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; and brother, Edward (Betty) Beibel. Mrs. Brandt was preceded in death by her husband, Edward F.; and sister, Margaret (the late Jack) Erwin. Interment was held at All Saints cemetery. Visitation preceded the service. Mr. Griffith was born in Glendale, Calif. He was the retired president of Griffith Builders Corp. and the retired project manager and vice president of GBC Unlimited, Inc. He was a member of the Prairie Schooners Square Dance Club and enjoyed scuba diving. He died on June 15, 2008 at the University of Louisville Medical Center in Louisville, Kent. His wife Kathleen (nee Campbell), his children Duane E. (Kathy) and Debra E. (John) Toppel, and his grandchildren Cindy, Michelle, Nicole, and Dale survive him. A native of Falkoping, Sweden, he died June 8 in Manor Care of Rolling Meadows. He was a veteran of World War II service in the Army. He worked for University of Illinois as an accountant for more than 25 years. Surviving are his daughter, Greta (Gregory) Broxham; brother Carl (Betty) and his grandchildren. His wife, Charlotte, and his son, Mark Hermanson, preceded him in death.
