Of Des Plaines

Funeral services were held for Ruth Shoop (nee Cleveland), a 20-year resident of Des Plaines, on Saturday, Oct. 25 at Oehler Funeral Home in Des Plaines. Shoop was born in Chicago on May 24, 1923 and died at Lutheran General Hospital on Monday, Oct. 20, 2008. She was 85 years old. For 10-years Shoop was co-owner of Cynthia's Shoppe in Des Plaines. Shoop is survived by her daughters; Susan M. (Paul Lamprinos) Frasier, Tomi Dee Brown and Bonnie Lee Folsom, sons Mark M. Frasier and Frank R. Fraiser, stepson Michael D. Shoop, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Shoop.

Vietnam War veteran Of Elk Grove Village

A funeral service for Gerald Herman "Jerry" Strahl, 64, of Elk Grove Village, was held Saturday, Oct. 25, at Grove Memorial Chapel. Visitation took place Friday, Oct. 24, at the funeral home. Mr. Strahl was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War and an Elk Grove resident for 17 years. He was vice president of quality and operations for AAR Aviation Supply Chain Group, AAR Corp. World Headquarters in Wood Dale, where he worked for 27 years. He passed away on Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008 at Midwest Medical Center in Galena. Mr. Strahl is survived by wife Helen, children Jeremy, Tom and Rebecca (James) Kasallis, grandchildren Tyler and Riley and siblings Tom (Diane), Sherry (Wendell) Anstett, Dixie (Connie) Aug, Pat (Delvin) Nelson, Bettie (Bob) Gulbranson and Fred Nagle. He was preceded in death by sister Bonnie (Fred) Nagle and parents Gerald H. Sr. and Doris.

Edward Foncier Swartz, Jr.
Of Arlington Heights

A funeral service for Edward Foncier Swartz Jr., 59, formerly of Niles, took place on Thursday, Oct. 23, at Glueckert Funeral Home in Arlington Heights. Interment was private. His son Edward F. III; his grandchildren Ashley Grace and Katherine Alice; his siblings James (Shirley), William, Vincent, and Kathy (Ernest) Heller; his nieces and nephews Caitlin Heller, Vincent, and Matthew Swartz survive him. World War II veteran Of Des Plaines

A funeral service for Henry "Zeke" A. Zyrkowski, of Des Plaines, was held Monday, Oct. 27, at St. Stephen Church. Interment was held Sunday, Oct. 26, at Oehler Funeral Home. Interment was at All Saints cemetery.Mr. Zyrkowski was born Feb. 15, 1926 in Chicago. He was an Army Ranger in WWII and worked as a pattern maker in manufacturing for over 40 years. He passed away on Oct. 23, 2008 at his home. Mr. Zyrkowski is survived by children Kenneth (Kathleen), Kathleen (Thomas) Lesiewicz, Thomas, Timothy (Demetra) and James (Linda), grandchildren Jennifer, Michael, Brian, Timothy, Patrick, Karen, Sarah, Jackie, Georgean, Nicholas (Lacy) and Kevin, great-grandson Cameron, brother Richard and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by wife Patricia and daughter Karen.

YENSON E. CHIN

A funeral service for Yenson E. Chin, 81, will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 3, at First United Methodist Church in Arlington Heights. A memorial visitation will precede the service beginning at 9 a.m. Interment will be private. Mr. Chin was born in Beijing, China on Dec. 22, 1925. He died on Jan. 26, 2007 in Arlington Heights. RUTH FLATEBO
"Bestemor"

A funeral service for Ruth Flatebo, 92, took place on Monday, Jan. 29 at Glueckert Funeral Home in Arlington Heights. Interment was at Ivanhoe cemetery. Visitation was on Sunday, Jan. 28 at the funeral home. Mrs. Flatebo was born on July 27, 1914 in Bergen, Norway. She was a homemaker and a member of the Sons of Norway. Her friends and family remember her as the lady who loved to knit. She created hundreds of sweaters, hat, mittens and other works for people she knew and others she didn't. Her grandchildren called her "Bestemor, " the Norwegian word for grandmother. Many others adopted the name for her. Her life was characterized by gratefulness especially her last years for the blessing of her husband who took wonderful care of her. She died on Thursday, Jan. 25, at the Midwest Palliative & Hospice Care Center in Skokie. Her parents, Nils and Magda (nee Bernson) Ovre-Eide, and her siblings Mary, Gunnar and Johan preceded her in death. Martin Flatebo, her husband of 60 years; her sons Pete (Cindy) Flatebo and Nels (Karen) Flatebo; her grandchildren Carrie Weber, Heidi Flatebo, Emily Flatebo and Ryan Arndt; and her brother Per Ovre-Eide survive her. She died on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007 at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Her husband Ralph preceded her in death. She is survived by her children Frank, Angela, Eleanor (late Richard) Mastrolonardo and Dominic (Linda); her grandchildren Patrick (Katie), Ray (Niki) and Mike (Karen) Mastrolonardo; and her great-grandchildren Amy, Tony, Taylor, Jenna, Mirae, Richae and Mia. A funeral service for Joseph J. Jarvis, 95, of Rolling Meadows was held on Saturday, Jan. 27 at Meadows Funeral Home. Visitation was held on Friday, Jan. 16 at the funeral home. Mr. Jarvis was born on May 23, 1911 in Milwaukee, Wis. He worked as a supervisor for The Campbell Soup Company. He passed away on Jan. 25, 2007 at Friendship Village in Schaumburg. He is preceded in death by his wife Lillian, son Lawrence and sister Dorothy Moll. Mr. Jarvis is survived by his son Gerald (Lorraine) and sisters Viola Stern, Evelyn Donzal, Lorraine Bradd and Virginia Jarvis. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Friendship Village, 350 W. A funeral Mass for Edmund J. Jatczak, 82, took place on Friday, Jan. 26, at St. Theresa Church in Palatine. Interment was at All Saints cemetery in Des Plaines. Visitation was Thursday, Jan. 25 at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home in Palatine. Mr. Jatczak was born on Mar. 28, 1924 in Gary, Ind. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and worked for 35 years as a senior engineer in research and development at USG Resource Center in Libertyville. He died on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2007 at Lutheran Home in Arlington Heights. His wife Betty preceded him in death. He is survived by his children Connie (David) Curt, Kathy (David) Raith, Jackie (Scott) Otto and Janet (Tom) Cross; his grandchildren Tahlya (Jack) D'Urso, Linda Curt, Dan, Brian and Kevin Raith, Kendra, Matthew and Andrew Gubernick and Annie and Katie Cross; and his great-grandchild Caden D'Urso. Mr. Moon was born Sept. 29, 1947 in Chicago. He was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a Shriner. He was a member of the Paul Revere Lodge #998. He passed away Thursday, Jan. 25 at his home. He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry Lee and Lola Mae (nee Davis) Moon. He is survived by his wife of almost 40 years, Susan (nee Dorsen), his children Randy (Jennifer) Moon and Brian (Melissa) Moon, his grandchildren, Griffin, Campbell, and Colette, and his siblings, Jesse Lee (Laverne) Moon and Linda Eckel. Visitation preceded the service. Mrs. Rowland was born in Chicago on Aug. 5, 1911. She died Friday, Jan. 26, 2007 at her home. Her husband Edwin A. Rowland preceded her in death. She is survived by her children Phyllis (Earl) Trostrud and Robert (Sandra) Rowland; her grandchildren Bradford (Linda) Trostrud, Stephany (Bill) Di Pinto, Lesley (Rob) Cherwenka and Scott (Jennifer) Rowland; and her great-grandchildren Shannon, Ryan, Brittany, Brandon, Allison, Brandon, Jessica, Dominic, Kaitlyn and Tyler. HARVEY M. SILETS
Prominent Defense Lawyer

Harvey M. Silets, 75, a prominent defense lawyer who's clients included Niles Mayor Nicholas Blase, died on Tuesday, Jan. 23 in Northwestern Memorial Hospital. A funeral service in his honor took place last Thursday, Jan. 25 at Temple Sholom. Mr. Silets was by Blase's side last October when Blase was accused of taking bribes and kickbacks. Mr. Silets' partner in the case, Jonathan Feld, will take over as Blase's attorney. Other clients of Silets included mobsters Jimmy Hoffa and Allen Dorfman. He was born in 1931. For the last 14 years, he has worked as a partner at Katten Muchin Rosenman. He was named one of the nation's top 10 litigators by National Law Journal. He was a board member of the American College of Trail Lawyers, the International Academy of Trail Lawyers, the American College of Tax Council and the American Board of Criminal Lawyers. He also served in the Army before joining the U.S. attorney's office in Chicago. Mr. Silets' is preceded in death by his son Jonathan. He is survived by his wife Elaine, daughter Alexandra, a son, sister Norma Pearl and three grandsons.

LORETTA SUELKE
of Des Plaines

A funeral service for Loretta Suelke (nee Mason), 92, will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 10 a.m., at St. Emily's Church in Mt. Prospect. Internment will be at St. Adalbert's cemetery in Niles. Ms. Suelke was born on Sept. 26, 1914, in Chicago. She died on Saturday, Jan. 27, at Oakton Pavilion Nursing Home. She enjoyed sewing and writing poetry, as well as gardening earlier in her life. Ms. Suelke was survived by her daughter Karen (George) Argianas, granddaughters Karissa (Tim) Michaely and Jennifer (Dr. Matthew) Connolly, and great grandchildren Dylan and Mia Michaely. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society are appreciated.

Interment was at St. Joseph cemetery. Ms. Zettl is preceded in death by her husband Josef. She is survived by her children Anna (the late Josef) Weissmann and Anton (Sandra), grandchildren Mary Ann Shesek, Joseph Weissmann and Erika and Karl Zettl, great-grandchildren Charles, Erin, Lauren, Eileen, Matthew and Heidi and nephew John Weber.

PEGGY A. ALLEN
Of Arlington Heights

A funeral service for Peggy A. Allen, 54, of Arlington Heights was held Tuesday, Apr. 3 at Glueckert Funeral Home. Interment was at Memory Gardens cemetery. Ms. Allen was born on July 16, 1952 in Chicago. She worked as a guidance counselor at Bartlett High School and had also worked in similar positions at Buffalo Grove, St. Edward and McHenry Community high school. She was also an active member of the Illinois Association of College Admissions Counseling. She died on Mar. 28, 2007 at Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove. Ms. Allen is preceded in death by her parents Wallace E. and Irene Allen, grandparents and aunts. She is survived by her sister Kathy (Greg) Johnson and niece Lynn (Zachary) Garcia. BENJAMIN BOBBITT

A funeral service for Benjamin A. Bobbitt of Buffalo Grove, 87, was held Monday, Mar. 26 at Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd. in Arlington Heights. Visitation was held the day before at the same location. Mr. Bobbitt was born on Aug. 27, 1919 in Austin, IL. He died Friday, Mar. 23 in Buffalo Grove. He is survived by his wife, Marjory A. (nee McClintock; children, Louis (Dianna), Deborah and Bruce (Tammy); grandchildren, Ivan (Catarina) Pugh, Rob and Doug Kass, Alicia (Dean) Flesor, and Stephanie and Melanie Bobbitt; great-grandson, Ethan Flesor; and his sister, Betty Jane (Ray) Jirsa. Mr. Bobbitt was preceded in death by his parents Louis Clarence and Anna (nee Nelson) and brother, Charles. Entombment was held at Mt. Emblem cemetery in Elmhurst. A funeral service for Elaine A. Bozych (nee McLaughlin) of Elk Grove Village, 90, was held Friday, Mar. 30 10 a.m., at Grove Memorial Chapel. Visitation was held the day before. Entombment was held at All Saints Mausoleum in Des Plaines. Mrs. Bozych was born on Nov. 9, 1916 in Detroit, Mi. She died Monday, Mar. 26 at her home. She was an employee of Marshall Field's Co. on State St. as a Sales Clerk for 28 years before her retirement. She was a member of Gold Star Wives of America, and a member of St. John's Mayfair Lutheran Church of Chicago. She is survived by her children, Carol A. (Dean) Fiess and Linda E. (Greg) DeOrio; grandchildren, David (Amber) Fiess, Tim Fiess, Jeff (Lisa) Fiess and Jennifer (Tom) Motter; five great-grandchildren; sister, Clarice Edmunds. Mrs. Bozych was preceded in death by her husband, William J.; siblings, Edward, Neil McLaughlin, Clarice Edmunds and Ola McLaughlin.

Mr. Brennan was born on Mar. 17, 1935 in Oak Park. He worked as a warehouse manager for DSI for many years. He died on Mar. 28, 2007 at his home.
