Charlotte E. Krakora

Charlotte E. Krakora, 85, of Aurora died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at Manor Care of Naperville. She was born Aug. 27, 1918, in Berwyn.

She had been a resident of Aurora for 10 years and was formerly a resident of North Riverside.

She is survived by a daughter, Jean Marten of Manteno; a son-in-law, Tim Strelak of Aurora; five grandchildren, Deanna, Tracey, Heather, Shannon and Kristen; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Anna Zoltek; her husband, George Krakora; and a daughter, Carol Strelak.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, at the funeral home. The Rev. Lance Hurley will officiate.

Interment will be at Queen of Heaven cemetery in Hillside.

Lucille M. Purkhiser

Lucille M. (Marchand) Purkhiser, 87, of Naperville died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004, at Manor Care Health Services in Naperville. She was born Nov. 5, 1916, in Rochester, N.H.

She had been a resident of Naperville since 1993 and was a former resident of Bolingbrook. She was a homemaker and a member of the Bolingbrook Woman's Club.

She is survived by two daughters, Gretchen (husband Robert) Brown of Medford, Mass., and Melissa Purkhiser of Winfield; a granddaughter, Amelia (husband William David) Brown of Ottawa, Ontario; and a brother, Lee (wife Doris) Prescott of Rochester.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rawlins E. Purkhiser, in 1993, and her parents.

A funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 516 S. Washington St., Naperville. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m.

Interment will take place at Clarendon Hill cemetery in Darien.

Memorials may be directed to Samaritan Interfaith Counseling, 552 S. Washington St., Naperville, IL 60540.

Mary Jane Aymond

Mary Jane Aymond, 81, of San Diego, Calif., and formerly a longtime resident of Naperville, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, in San Diego. She was born April 27, 1922, in Long Prairie, Minn.

She was a homemaker. She was a former member of Cress Creek Country Club in Naperville, Gamma Phi Beta sorority, a former member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Naperville, and a current member of San Rafael Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband, Frank Aymond of San Diego; a son, John (wife Ginger), and their children, Jessica and Ben, all of Naperville; and a daughter, Mary Anne (husband Jon) Walters, and their children, Melissa, Tim and Michael, all of Valley Center, Calif.

A memorial service will take place Saturday, Feb. 28, at San Rafael Catholic Church in Rancho Bernardo, Calif.

Memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor's choice.

Gloria Johnson

Gloria Johnson, 74, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004, at her home. She was a resident of Downers Grove for more than 60 years.

She was the beloved wife of Robert; loving mother of Clinton (wife Laura), Peter (wife Karyn), Daniel (wife Alicia) and Kirk; proud grandmother of Robert, Jacquelyn, Cassandra, Courtney, Angela (husband David), Kelly, Kyle, Delaney and Bennett; and great-grandmother of Ethan. She will be missed by all.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 31, at Morton Arboretum. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by the service from 11 a.m. to noon.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Morton Arboretum, 4100 Route 53, Lisle, IL 60532, or the American Cancer Society, 999 N. Main St., Glen Ellyn, IL 60137.

B. JoAnn Nielsen

B. JoAnn Nielsen, 69, of Lisle, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004, at Lexington Health Care Center in Lombard. Adams-Winterfield and Sullivan Funeral Home, Downers Grove, is handling arrangements. Call (630) 968-1000.

Gladys Viola Law

Gladys Viola Law, 95, of Naperville died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, at Community Nursing and Rehabilitation of Naperville. She was born Sept. 20, 1908, in Bayfield, Wis.

She had been a Naperville resident since 1941 and a teacher in Naperville School District 203, teaching many years at Elmwood School. She was a member of First Congregational Church of Naperville.

She is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Law of Naperville; two sons, Walter (wife Thelma) of Oswego and Nelson (wife Vernell) of Oswego; five grandchildren, Van Ray Leach of Arkansas, Stephanie Forde of Oswego, Michelle Law of Oswego and Thomas and Chad Law of Oswego; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Agnes Nelson and Harriett Broman; and a brother, Leon Nelson.

Visitation will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.

Additional visitation will be held from noon until the 1 p.m. service Saturday, Feb. 7, at First Congregational Church of Naperville, 25 E. Benton Ave.

Interment will be at Naperville cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the church or the American Cancer Society, 999 N. Main St., Glen Ellyn, IL 60137.

Sandy Lee Nemec

Sandy Lee Nemec, 53, of Naperville died Monday, Feb. 9, 2004, at Edward Hospital in Naperville after a long struggle with multiple sclerosis. She was born April 30, 1950, in Chicago, and moved to Naperville in 1972.

She was a very active member of Knox Presbyterian Church in Naperville. The most important thing in the world to Sandy was her family.

She is survived by her husband, Allen, of Naperville, whom she married Oct. 10, 1970; two sons, Ben and Jeff, both of Chicago; her mother, Joan (Mitchell) Pralgauskas of Plainfield; a sister, Jill (husband Bill) Sirek of Oswego; and a niece, Sheri (husband Joe) Lhotek of Romeoville.

She was preceded in death by her father, Anthony Pralgauskas.

Visitation will take place from 4 until 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 516 S. Washington St., Naperville.

A funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at Knox Presbyterian Church, 1105 Catalpa Lane, Naperville.

Interment will be at Naperville cemetery.

Leoncio 'Leony' Cuartero

Leoncio "Leony" Cuartero, 87, of Aurora died Saturday, March 6, 2004, at Alden of Waterford in Aurora. Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 24021 W. Royal Worlington Drive, Naperville, is handling arrangements. Call (630) 922-9630.

Thomas R. Tuman

Thomas R. Tuman, 77, of Naperville and formerly of Woodridge, died Wednesday, March 24, 2004, at his home, surrounded by his family, after a lengthy illness. He was born Nov. 20, 1926, in Chicago.

He spent the majority of his career as a production manager at Bretford Manufacturing in Wood Dale, until his retirement in 1990. He and his wife, Jan, and daughter, Joy, opened the Pastry Pantry in Naperville in 1988.

He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Janice (Crema) of Naperville; five children, Thomas Tuman, Ronald Tuman, Russell (wife Wanda) Tuman and Gregory (wife Randy) Tuman, all of Texas, and Joy (husband Jonathan) Zetlow of West Chicago; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Brett, Jacob and Jessica; a brother, Edwin (wife Casmira) Tuman of Chicago; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eleanor (Cummings); his parents, Thomas and Karolina Tuman; a grandson, Patrick Tuman; two sisters, Wanda and Stephanie; and a brother, Richard Tuman.

Visitation will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, March 29, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville. A funeral service will follow at noon at the funeral home. The Rev. Lenord Sukut will officiate.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to VNA Hospice of Fox Valley, 1245 Corporate Blvd., fifth floor, Aurora, IL 60504.

Allen Dale Valerius

Allen Dale Valerius, 28, formerly of DeKalb, died Tuesday, March 16, 2004, at his home. He was born March 21, 1975, in DeKalb to Albert and Marlene (Sederberg) Valerius.

He was united in marriage on Nov. 2, 2002, in Montgomery to the former Denise Janecek and they spent happy years of their lives together. He was employed as a Kendall County Sheriff's Deputy. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, doing such things as scuba diving and gardening. He was a loving husband, son, stepfather, brother and uncle who will be missed by his family, friends and many co-workers.

He is survived by his wife, Denise Valerius of Yorkville; a stepson, Christopher DeLange of Yorkville; his parents, Albert and Marlene Valerius of DeKalb; two sisters, April Valerius of Cortland and Terry (husband Shawn) Frazier of DeKalb; two brothers, Carl (fiancee Allyson Hannah) Valerius of Rockford and Larry Valerius of Cortland; his father-in-law, Robert (wife Suzanne) Janecek of Naperville; his mother-in-law, Karen (husband Theodore) Gunaka of Lyndon Station, Wis.; and six nieces and nephews, Robert, Curtis, Logan and Allena Frazier of DeKalb and Emma and Ella Valerius of Rockford.

He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents.

Visitation took place Friday, March 19, at Larson-Nelson Funeral Home in Yorkville.

A funeral service took place Saturday, March 20, at the funeral home, with the Rev. David S. Bilyeu of First Baptists Church of DeKalb officiating.

A burial with police honors followed in the Oak Mound cemetery in Somonauk.

A memorial fund is being established for his family.

Marion E. Weinmann

Marion E. Weinmann, 76, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Sunday March 7, 2004, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte. She was born Dec. 17, 1927, in Naperville and moved to the Port Charlotte area 25 years ago.

Weinmann was a homemaker and was of the Protestant evangelical faith.

She is survived by her husband, Quentin C. Weinmann; three sons, Miles (wife Sharon) Weinmann of Champaign, Charles (wife Julie) Weinmann of Montgomery and Jason (wife Kathryn) Weinmann of Port Charlotte; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, John Manes of Port Charlotte; and two sisters, Lucille Nance of Hot Springs, Ark., and Eileen Martin of West Chicago.

No services will be held at this time.

Arrangements are being handled by Paul Schelm Funeral Home, 3044 Caring Way, Port Charlotte.

Karen Whitt

Karen Whitt, 60, a resident of Aurora for five years and formerly of Danville, Calif., and Yorba Linda, Calif., died Tuesday, March 23, 2004, at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood. She was born Dec. 28, 1943, in Utah. Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home in Naperville is handling arrangements. Call (630) 355-0213.

Barry R. Wolff Sr.

Barry R. Wolff Sr., 44, a resident of Bolingbrook for 40 years, died Friday, March 26, 2004, while at work in Wheatland Township.

was the owner and plumber of Wolff Plumbing. He was a coach for the Bolingbrook Park District flag football program for 10- to 13-year-olds.

He was the beloved husband of Kathleen (Laughlin); loving father of Jeff Laughlin, MaryAnn Wolff, Barry Jr. and Bobby; cherished son of George and Mary Ann Wolff; fond brother of Wendy Towner, Becky Wolff, Jody (husband Mark) Leven, George Jr., Scott (wife Debbie), Michael (wife Shelia) and Jay (wife Jen); and uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Visitation took place Monday, March 29, followed by a service, at Bolingbrook-McCauley Funeral Chapel and Crematorium, 530 W. Boughton Road, Bolingbrook.

Cremation will be private.

Raymond V. Yender

Raymond V. Yender, 76, of Sandwich passed away Friday, March 19, 2004, at Valley West Community Hospital in Sandwich. He was born Jan. 23, 1928, in Aurora, the son of George A. and Mary C. (Lettcher) Yender.

He married Marilyn Bergeson on Sept. 11, 1954, in Aurora.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954, stationed at Lakenheath Air Force Base near London. He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sandwich. He was a member of the Illinois Farm Bureau and former secretary-treasurer of Boilermakers Local 1239 in Aurora. He was employed by Allsteel Corp. for 21 years and was a lifelong farmer.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; two daughters, Sheila (husband Vern) Fagerberg of Bloomingdale and Linda (husband George Garland) Yender of Glendale Heights; two loving grandchildren, Lisa Fagerberg and Verner Raymond Fagerberg; a brother, Andrew (wife Viola) Yender of Lisle; two nephews, Father Basil of Marmion Abbey and George; and three nieces, Kathleen, Arlene and Ruth.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, George and Paul Yender; and a nephew, Andrew Yender.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 21, at Turner Funeral Home, at 13160 Route 34 in Somonauk, where there will be a wake service at 2 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon Monday, March 22, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sandwich, with Father Jack T. Heraty officiating.

Burial will be at St. Paul's Queen of Angels cemetery in Sandwich.

Memorials may be made to Masses.
