Henry Aarnio
Henry "Hank" Aarnio, 83, a resident of Naperville since 1973, formerly of Erie, Pa, died Saturday, March 27, 2004, at his home. He was born Sept. 24, 1920, in Cleveland.
He was a lifelong resident of Erie, Pa., before coming to Naperville in 1973. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was employed for many years by American Sterilizer Co. in Erie, Pa., as a sales manager, retiring in 1983 after 44 years of service. He was a member of Downers Grove Baptist Church. He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed fishing and spending time at his second home in Woodruff, Wis., known affectionately as "the hut."
He is survived by his devoted wife, Margaret (nee Davis) Aarnio, whom he married
Nov. 8, 1952; four loving children, Amanda (husband Dennis) King of Fishers, Ind., David Aarnio of Corpus Christi, Texas, Tom (wife Sheryl) Aarnio of White Bear Lake, Minn., and Betty (husband Curt) Weaver of Channahon; and five beloved grandchildren, Daniel King, Jason and Eric Aarnio, and Nicole and Jake Weaver.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Aune Aarnio, and a sister, Helmi Monas.
Visitation will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, March 30, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.
A funeral service will begin at noon at the funeral home.
Interment will take place at Naperville cemetery.

Warren Cotton Ashley
Warren Cotton Ashley, 99, of Naperville died Monday, March 29, 2004, in Naperville.
Warren C. Ashley, nearly a centenarian himself, witnessed and participated in the "Greatest Generation" any society has ever produced. A century of Americans who came of age woven together with tremendous social, economic and incredible scientific innovation. Ultimately, changed our own world. He was a man who contributed greatly. He was born Dec. 25, 1904, on a farm near Yorkville and became the 10th generation of the Ashley line in America. He graduated from Yorkville Consolidated High School in 1924 as class valedictorian. He enrolled at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the fall of 1924, during the "Red" Grange era. He received his B.S. in education in 1929, his M.S. in 1930 and a Ph.D. in chemistry in 1935. He is listed in America Men and Women of Science. His peers presented him with membership in Sigma Xi, the fraternity for research scientists; he was a member of Phi Lambda Upsilon, an honorary chemistry fraternity; and he held a membership in the American Chemical Society, which gave him emeritus status.
He was a member of the Chicago Society and the Federation of Societies for Coating Technology. The Chicago Society Technical Committee, chaired by him, won first prize at the wartime regional meeting of the federation held in Chicago in 1945 with its paper on plasticizers for nitrocellulose. The paper also won Warren first prize for the best presentation of a technical paper. In 1954, at the Past President's Night meeting, he designed and issued the first program for a meeting. After serving in all preceding elective offices, he became president of the society in 1954. In 1956, as editor, he issued the first yearbook for the Chicago Society, an endeavor that has now become firmly established. The Chicago Society for Coatings Technology presented its Outstanding Service Award to Warren in 1961. In May 2000, the Outstanding Service Award was renamed the Warren C. Ashley Award in his honor.
Purdue University and Commercial Solvents Corp. brought to commercial production an entirely new family of chemicals in 1955 - the nitroparaffins. To commemorate the occasion, a series of symposiums were held in New York in 1955, and in Chicago and San Francisco in 1956. Warren was one of the four featured speakers at these meetings, his subject being "The Nitroparaffins as Solvents of Technical Coatings."
He became a beekeeper in 1922 as a hobby, eventually working up to 45 colonies. His forte was section comb honey. In 1927, he worked for a 1,000-colony spread in North Dakota. He was an honorary member of Illinois State and the Cook-DuPage Beekeepers Associations and served three years, from 1967 to 1971, as president of CDBA and produced the first yearbook for the local association in 1967.
He was a research fellow at Iowa State College in 1931, chemist for Eastman Kodak Co. in 1934, research chemist for Battele Memorial Institute from 1935 to 1938, formulator of lacquers and adhesives for Pyroxylin Products Inc. from 1938 to 1962, formulator of various coatings for polyester film for George J. Aigner Co. from 1962 to 1969, and became a self-employed formulator in 1969. While employed by Sanford and Sons, he developed the colored markers (Magic Markers), flocked and colored wallpaper, paints and glues.
He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth (husband William) Buchinger of Naperville; six grandchildren, Ann Elizabeth (husband Robert) Gould of Plainfield, Arianna Catherine Buchinger of Naperville, William (wife Susan) Buchinger of Tampa, Fla., Bryan (wife Cassandra) Ashley of Madison, Wis., Curtis Ashley of Bolingbrook and Kerry (husband Bryan) McGuire of Zionville, N.C.; and six great-grandchildren, Matthew Newman, Ashley Newman, Jared Newman, Vera Gould, Amelia Gould and Caitlin McGuire.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve; a son, Warren Ashley Jr.; his parents, Stephen and Cora (Cotton) Ashley; and a brother, Almon Ashley.
A memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 3, at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 516 S. Washington St., Naperville.
Private interment will take place Friday, April 2, at Naperville cemetery.

Dinah K. Bussell
Dinah Kay (Allison) Bussell, 29, an Aurora resident for six years and a former resident of Goshen, Ind., and Naperville, died Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora, after battling breast cancer. She was born Dec. 30, 1974, in Hannibal, Mo.
She grew up in Goshen, was a 1993 graduate of Goshen High School and later attended College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn. She loved children and worked in childcare for several employers, including the Rush-Copley Healthplex in Aurora. She was a member of Alleluia Lutheran Church in Naperville.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Bussell of Aurora, whom she married
July 22, 1996; two children, Tyler and Lexi Bussell; her parents, John and Fannie Allison of Goshen; two brothers, Jonathan and John Allison, both of Florida; and two sisters, Deborah Allison of Oak Park and Elaine Allison of Highwood.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Jared Allison.
Visitation will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 3, at Alleluia Lutheran Church, 4055 Book Road, Naperville.
A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 3, at the church, with the Rev. Mark Juliot.
Interment will take place at Naperville cemetery.

Elaine G. Ekkebus
Elaine G. (Spewachek) Ekkebus, 82, a resident of Naperville since 1960, died Tuesday, March 23, 2004, at Tabor Hills Healthcare Facility in Naperville. She was born and raised in Milwaukee.
She was a graduate of Washington High School. She worked at Wisconsin Power and Light Co. during and after World War II. After moving to Naperville in 1960, she worked for 10 years in the law offices of Francis J. Cuneo. She later worked in the trust department at the former Naperville National Bank, from which she retired in 1985. She was one of the founding members of the Charter Chapter of the American Business Women's Association in Naperville and received its 1977 Business Woman of the Year award. She was an avid volunteer, most recently working at Edward Hospital in the research library. She also participated in the effort to rally support for a referendum for the building of the current Nichols Library. She was a Girl Scout leader for many years in both Milwaukee and Naperville. As one of the founding members of St. Raphael's Catholic Church, she spent many years as a volunteer for church events.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Cyril F. Ekkebus; four children, Allen (wife Susan) Ekkebus of Oak Ridge, Tenn., Ann Ekkebus of Bolingbrook, Edward (wife Susan) Ekkebus of LaGrange, Ga., and Brian (wife Susan) Ekkebus of Naperville; and six grandchildren, Cheryl Ekkebus of Baltimore, Kevin Ekkebus of Oak Ridge, Anna Ekkebus and Todd Ekkebus of LaGrange, and Robert Ekkebus and Allison Ekkebus of Naperville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Anna Spewachek; and a brother, Erwin Spewachek, all of Milwaukee.
Visitation will take place from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 25, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St. in Naperville.

Erin J. Justice
Erin Jenea Justice, 16, of Aurora and formerly of Naperville, passed away Saturday, March 27, 2004. She was born March 1, 1988, in Joliet.
A student and athlete, Erin was in her sophomore year at Waubonsie Valley High School in Aurora. She was a member of the varsity track team and the Black Student Alliance. She loved animals, especially her dog, Duke. She also enjoyed music and poetry.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving mother, Valerie (Jenkins) Justice of Aurora; her loving father, Edreick B. (wife Cynthia) Justice of University Park; two adoring stepsisters, Adrienne Blue of Chicago and Carmell (husband Arthur) White of Seattle; her maternal grandmother, Patricia Jenkins of Sandwich; her maternal grandfather, Robert (wife Myrtis) Jenkins Jr. of Aurora; a step-grandmother, Phyllis Scott of Chicago; a great-uncle, Roy Lee Gayles of Chicago; numerous aunts and uncles, Robert (wife Isabel) Jenkins of East Norton, Pa., Rhonda Jenkins of Aurora, officer Kevin Jenkins of Aurora, Diane Jenkins of Aurora, Jose (wife Josephine) Justice of Chicago, Valora (husband Rocelious) Justice-Haywood of Chicago and Roy Justice of North Aurora; a special aunt, Jewel (husband William) Miller of Florida; and many cousins and friends.
A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. Friday, April 2, at the Waubonsie Valley High School Auditorium, 2590 Route 34, Aurora.

Edward J. "Ed" Randa, 77, a Naperville resident since 1995 and formerly of Chicago, Berwyn and Lisle, died Tuesday, March 23, 2004, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield. He was born Feb. 3, 1927, in Chicago.
Mr. Randa grew up on Chicago's southwest side and was a graduate of Morton High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was employed for many years by Motorola in Franklin Park as a mechanical engineer. He was a resident of Tabor Hills in Naperville and served on the board of directors. He was an avid sports fan and especially loved basketball. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening and woodworking.
He is survived by two children, Tamara "Tammy" (husband Bill) Wilson of Woodridge and Edward "Ed" (wife Sandy) Randa of Woodridge; four grandchildren, Bryan and Brent Wilson and Nichole and Julie Randa; a sister, Margaret Randa of Montgomery; a nephew, Jim (wife Susan) Randa of Boulder, Colo.; two nieces, Nancy (husband Mike Hansen) Randa of Potomac, Md., and Bette Randa of Oak Park; and a great-nephew, David Randa.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Randa; a daughter, Susan Randa; his parents, John and Amelia Randa; and a brother, John Randa Jr.

Salvatore "Sam" Esposito, 69, of Naperville died Tuesday, March 23, 2004, at home. He was born Oct. 16, 1934, in Chicago.
He is survived by his wife, Carol (Marciniak) Esposito; two children, Gennevive (husband Boyd) Buck and John (wife Lisa); five stepchildren, Michelle (husband Ian) Johnson, Steven (wife Julie) Marciniak, Melissa (husband Robert) Wis, Milenda (husband Grant) Haggard and Ron Marciniak; 16 grandchildren; eight siblings, Antoinette Magnini, Frances Platek, Theresa (husband Frank) Napolitano, John (wife Marlene), Gennevive Trioani, James (wife Kathy), Anna LaSpina and Joseph (wife Patricia); and many nieces, nephews, great-nephews and great-nieces.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy (Schlavone) Esposito; and three brothers-in-law, Carl Magnini, Gregory Platek and Vince LaSpina.
