Ruth W. Bowers
Ruth W. Bowers, 76, of Duluth, Minn., formerly of Naperville, died Friday, May 14, 2004, at Viewcrest Health Center. She was born in Kalamazoo, Mich., on July 28, 1927.
Following her graduation from Kalamazoo High School, where she was valedictorian and homecoming queen, she toured Europe on a bicycle. She enjoyed a close relationship with her father and enjoyed working with him on the family apple orchard. She was a graduate of Ann Arbor University with a degree in nursing and worked as a registered nurse in public health in Chicago and New Jersey. While attending Ann Arbor, she met Donald L. Bowers, who was originally from Akron, Ohio. They married
June 23, 1951, in Kalamazoo. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Naperville for more than 50 years.
She enjoyed creative writing, winning several awards, and also taught synchronized swimming.
She is survived by a daughter, Katie Krikorian of Duluth; a granddaughter, Holland Krikorian of Nashville, Tenn.; a sister, Joanne (husband William) Sisson of Three Rivers, Mich.; and several cousins, including Marcia Swanson and her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, Donald; and her parents, Owen F. and Wilma E. Morton.
A graveside service took place Wednesday, May 19, at Calvary cemetery in Duluth.
Williams-Lobermeier Funeral Home in Duluth handled arrangements.
Michael Samel
Michael Samel, 89, a longtime resident of Berwyn, died Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at his home.
He was a member of Westchester Lodge 995 and Berwyn Lodge 839, both for 37 years; the Medina Shriners and Club Debrovsky Chech Masons, past patron of Berwyn Chapter 529 Order of Eastern Star and Sun Beam Alumni Club.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Virginia; three children, Judy (husband Steve) Beto, Mark (wife Patricia) Samel and Christine (husband Tom) Wehrli; five grandchildren, Kevin (wife Rachel) Beto and Wendy Beto, Joyce (husband Keith) Sharlog, Kim (husband Tom) Jackson and Sherri Geffe; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Emily Samel.
He was preceded in death by three grandchildren, Michael David Samel, Ginny (Eric) Wehrli-Hemmeter and Vicky Wehrli; and a sister, Anne Blatchford.
Visitation will take place from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 28, at Abram and Son Funeral Home, 6910 Windsor Ave., Berwyn.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 29, at the funeral home.
Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Berwyn United Lutheran Church.

Michael Samel, 89, a longtime resident of Berwyn, died Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at his home.

Donald J. Greisch
Donald J. Greisch, 75, of Naperville and formerly of Glenview, died Tuesday, May 18, 2004, at ManorCare in Naperville. He was born March 18, 1929, in Chicago.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during the Korean War, and had worked as an advertising salesman for Lerner Newspapers prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and in his spare time enjoyed playing golf and bridge.
He is survived by two daughters, Joellyn (husband Tim) Ball of Naperville and Julie (husband Michael) Shimenetto of Mundelein; a son, Jim (wife Anne) Greisch of Omaha, Neb.; nine grandchildren, Elizabeth, Emily, Lauren, Lisa and Sara Greisch, Eric, David and Colin Ball, and Christopher Shimenetto; and a brother, Richard (wife Eileen) Greisch of Glenview.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan (Kemper), in 1992; and his parents, Nicholas and Etta Greisch.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 21, at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 516 S. Washington St., Naperville.
A funeral service will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 22, at the funeral home and proceed to SS Peter and Paul Church, 36 N. Ellsworth St., Naperville, for a 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian burial.
Interment will follow at St. Boniface cemetery in Chicago.

Harry P. Magiera Sr.
Harry P. Magiera Sr., 85, a 30-year resident of Naperville, died Monday, May 10, 2004, at his home. He was born Sept. 23, 1918, in Chicago.
He owned and operated Magiera Choice Meats in Chicago from 1942 to 1959. He worked as a machine operator for Reynolds Metal in McCook from 1959 until 1983. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the Seabees. He was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Naperville.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian (Niziolek) Magiera of Naperville; six children, Judy (husband Leo) Delinski of Peoria, Jack (wife Nancy) Magiera of Cary, N.C., Harry (wife Marla) Magiera Jr. of Lombard, Jan Magiera of Naperville, Jim (wife Jennie) Magiera of Park Ridge and Joe Magiera of Lisle; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Bernice (Bryk) Magiera; two brothers, Henry and Stanley; a sister, Eleanore Berry; and a grandson, Jacob Peter.

Leonard J. Sidlow
Leonard J. Sidlow, 86, a resident of La Grange Park since 1955, died Monday, May 24, 2004, at The Lexington of La Grange. He was born May 9, 1918, in Chicago.
He was an employee of International Molding Machine Co. in La Grange from 1943 to 1983, serving as a machinist.
He is survived by two sons, Terry (wife Mary Lou) Sidlow of Naperville and Scott (wife Louise) Sidlow of Gurnee; two grandchildren, Tim Sidlow of Darien and Geoffrey (wife Jennifer) Sidlow of Loveland, Ohio; and a brother- and sister-in-law, Felix and Lillian Adomaitis.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; a brother, Julius Sidlow; and a sister, Florence Las Cola.
Visitation will take place from 9 a.m. until time of service at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 27, at St. Patrick's Residence, 1400 Brookdale Road, Naperville.
Interment will be at Queen of Heaven cemetery in Hillside.

Margaret D. Sima
Margaret D. (Dutterer) Sima, 71, of Naperville died Sunday, May 23, 2004, at Edward Hospital in Naperville. She was born Sept. 5, 1932, in Toledo, Ohio.
She received her bachelor's degree from Michigan State University in 1954. After marrying Robert on June 15, 1957, they settled in Naperville in 1958. She retired from R.R. Donnelly and had spent the last five years enjoying her gardening, traveling and most of all her wonderful grandchildren. She was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church in Naperville.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 47 wonderful years, Robert N. Sima; her loving children, Cathy (husband Eric) Webster of Bloomington and William (wife Laura) Sima of Spring Grove; her dear grandchildren, Kira and Larissa Webster and Allyson, Jenna, Adam and Emma Sima; her cherished sister, Corrine (husband Gary) Malinowski of Greensboro, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rex and Mary Dutterer.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until time of funeral service at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 26, at the Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.
Interment will take place at East Lawn cemetery in Bloomington.

Robert D. Dickey
Robert D. Dickey, 77, of Naperville and formerly of Woodridge, died Monday, May 24, 2004, at the Bloomingdale Pavilion in Bloomingdale. He was born Feb. 10, 1927, in Archie, Mo.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a longtime member of Trinity Baptist Church in Chicago and then was active at Bethany Lutheran Church and with Wheaton Bible Church's Widow and Widowers Support Group. In his free time, he enjoyed doing freelance Christian writing and spending time with his family and his pets.
He is survived by his daughter, Rosemary (husband Ronald) Swanson of Wheaton; his son, David (wife Camille) Dickey of Evergreen Park; six grandchildren, Andrea, Erik and Holly Swanson, and David, Mary and Sarah Dickey; his sister, Betty Jo (husband Joe) Kessler of DeSoto, Kan.; his nephew, Danny Hall; and his niece, Sherry Thompson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Dickey, in 1995.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 28, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.
