Thomas J. Minasola Jr.
Thomas J. "Tommy" Minasola Jr., 42, of the Edison Park community of Chicago, passed away Thursday, July 29, 2004. He was born April 5, 1962.
He loved boating, traveling and his 23-year career working for the city of Chicago, Streets and Sanitation Department. His love and willingness to always be available to those who needed him will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of seven years, Jennifer (Emmerich) Minasola, formerly of Naperville; his parents, Thomas Sr. (Chicago Police Department, retired) and Josephine (Saccio) Minasola; siblings, Ben (wife Fran) Minasola, AnneMarie (husband Larry) Schopp and Marianne (husband Manny) Meris. Tommy was the caring uncle of Danielle (goddaughter) and Nicole Schopp, Brianne, Sydney (goddaughter) and Tess Meris, Jovanna and Gianna (goddaughter) Minasola, Anthony, Chelsea and Jessica DeRose, and Tricia Yasdick. Also surviving are his in-laws, Pat Malone; Cathy (husband Rob) DeRose, Carrie (husband Jim) Yasdick and Rick Emmerich.
Visitation took place Monday, Aug. 2, at the M.J. Suerth Funeral Home in Chicago.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Tuesday, Aug. 3, at St. Eugene Catholic Church in Chicago.
Interment followed at Maryhill cemetery in Niles.
Mary F. Simmons
Mary F. (Monahan) Simmons, 82, a Naperville resident since 2003 and formerly of Brookline, Mass., and West Roxbury, Mass., died Sunday, July 11, 2004, at her home. She was born Dec. 27, 1921, in Boston.
She grew up in Jamaica Plain, Mass., lived in Brookline and was a 42-year resident of West Roxbury. She married
Charles Sr. on April 29, 1950, and was a longtime member of St. Theresa Parish in West Roxbury. She lived at Sunrise Assisted Living Center in Naperville.
She is survived by a daughter, Judith M. (husband William) Hanrahan of Bronxville, N.Y., a son, Charles P. (wife Maureen) Simmons Jr. of Naperville; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Julianne, Kimberly and Kristine Simmons; a sister, Doris Curran; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles P. Simmons Sr.; her parents, Margaret and Michael Monahan; a brother, Thomas Monahan; and a brother-in-law, William J. Curran.
Visitation will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.
A service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 15, from the funeral home and will proceed to an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at SS Peter and Paul Church, 36 N. Ellsworth St., Naperville.
Interment will follow at SS Peter and Paul cemetery in Naperville.
Daniel Giroux
Daniel Giroux, 77, of Lake Placid, Fla., and formerly of Naperville, died Sunday, July 25, 2004, in Lake Placid. He was born July 31, 1926, in Chicago and lived in Naperville from 1956 to 1987 before moving to Florida.
Mr. Giroux was a charter member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Naperville. He retired in 1987 from Argonne National Laboratories, where he was assistant director of public relations for more than 30 years. He was a founding member of Argonne Pioneers. He served his country during World War II with the U.S. Army in the European theater.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Radtke) Giroux of Lake Placid; four children, Col. Michael (wife Donna) Giroux of Maryland, Janet Pell of Fort Myers Beach, Fla., Douglas (wife Kimberly) Giroux of Romeoville and Dennis (wife Susan) Giroux of Plainfield; four grandchildren, Katie, Sam and Richard Giroux, and Casey Pell; and a sister, Barbara (husband James) Robinson of Asheville, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Frances (Neuwkirchen) Giroux; and a grandson, Daniel Giroux.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 30, at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 516 S. Washington St., Naperville.
Interment will be at Naperville cemetery.
Visitation will take place from 10 a.m. until time of service Friday, July 30, at the funeral home.
Mary-Louise Sonefeld
Mary-Louise Sonefeld, 64, died Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at her home in Columbia, S.C. She was born in St. Clair, Mich., the daughter of George and Eleanor (Caplin) Hornberger.
She was employed by the Naperville Park District and helped pioneer the Naperville Youth Soccer Association. She was a dear friend to many. She was a competitive tennis player and will be especially missed as an enthusiastic soccer fan and for her incredible sense of humor and courageous spirit.
Survivors include her sons, Dave and his wife, Deanna, of Round Rock, Texas, Mike and his wife, Patti, of Cayce, S.C., Jim and his wife, Debbie, of Columbia, S.C., and Steve and his wife, Bobbie, of Columbia, S.C.; a daughter, Katie Heister, and her husband, Kevin, of Adamstown, Md.; 11 grandchildren, Laura, Patrick, Troy, Michael-Lindsey, Les, Cameron, Mason, Coleman, Trevor, Michael and Shannon; a brother, Philip Hornberger, and his wife, Candie, of Battle Creek, Mich.; a sister, Janet Gobbel, and her husband, Bruce, of Buford, Ga. She was formerly married
to Otto Sonefeld of Falls Church, Va. She also will be dearly missed by close friend Kurt Ratchek.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
The Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 22, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, Columbia, S.C., with visitation following until 8 p.m.
A funeral Mass will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Church, on Devine Street, at 10 a.m. Friday, July 23.

Jamie Lynn Guzzo
Jamie Lynn Guzzo, 21, of Las Vegas and formerly of Lisle, died Wednesday, June 23, 2004, in Las Vegas. She was born Oct. 8, 1982, in Lisle.
She is survived by her mother, Donna Manion; two sisters, Kelly Guzzo and Melanie Manion; her stepmother, Karen Guzzo; her paternal grandparents, Paul and MaryAnn Guzzo; her maternal grandmother, Cathy Brust; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, family members and friends who loved her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her father, David Guzzo.
A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 8, at St. Joan of Arc Church, 820 Division St., Lisle.

William 'Bill' Murphy
William "Bill" Murphy, 51, of Carpentersville died Saturday, July 10, 2004, in Kenosha, Wis. He was born Dec. 12, 1952, in Melrose Park.
Mr. Murphy was an engineer and scientist for Knowles Electronic in Itasca, where he designed patented designs in microelectronics.
He was an avid Human Powered Vehicle Association member and engineer who enjoyed his life of competition and camaraderie in the organization. As a resident of Carpentersville for 17 years, he developed a reputation for engineering perfection and kindly, smiling, selfless friendship with those he met.
He is survived by his father, George Murphy, of Escondido, Calif.; four brothers, Thomas (wife Rosemarie) of Naperville, Daniel (wife June) of Valrico, Fla., Jerald of Apple Valley, Calif., and James of Escondido; a sister, Susan (husband Jeffery) Roston of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Frances (Buta) Murphy.
A funeral service will begin at 9:45 a.m. Friday, July 16, at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 516 S. Washington St., Naperville, and proceed to a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at St. Raphael Catholic Church, 1215 Modaff Road, Naperville.
A visitation will take place from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 15, at the funeral home.

Billie L. (Little) Hafer
Billie L. (Little) Hafer, 84, of Worthington, Ohio, and formerly of Naperville, died Wednesday, July 28, 2004, at Whetsone Care Center in Columbus, Ohio.
She is survived by a son, the Honorable William L. (wife Starlett) Hafer of Worthington, and a sister, Jean Crawford of Franklin, Tenn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack C. Hafer.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 2, at the funeral home. The Rev. Bill L. Bryan will officiate.
Interment will follow at Naperville cemetery.
Roger L. Springborn
Roger L. Springborn, 47, of Orlando, Fla., formerly of Naperville, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, July 28, 2004. He was born Sept. 12, 1956, in Aurora to Sheila (Johnson) and Donald Springborn.
He graduated from Naperville Central High School. Before he entered the military, he worked for Naperville Township. He spent most of his adult life in the military, serving in the Army overseas in the military police. He was a member of the SPFPA Local 127 and the Disabled American Veterans-Commanders Club. After he retired from the military, he was a security policeman at Cape Canaveral. He loved to bowl and golf, and he lived each day to the fullest. He loved his wife, daughters and family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Karin (Schoenleben), and his daughters, Jennifer and Jessica, all of Orlando; his mother, Sheila Springborn of Naperville; his brothers, Jerry (wife Gail), Tom (wife Peg), Howard, Jon (wife Sue) and Bob (wife Jenny) Springborn; his sisters, Connie (husband Fred) Springborn, Cathy (husband John) Murr, Kay (husband Ed) Drafke and Carol (husband Scot) Mersman, all of Illinois; his mother- and father-in-law, Herbert and Ida Schoenleben, a sister-in-law, Ingrid (husband Edmund) Faerber, brothers-in-law Theo and Peter Schoenleben, and a sister-in-law, Andrea (husband Klaus) Kolb, all of Germany; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Springborn.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until time of funeral service at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 2, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.
Interment will be private.
A funeral service was also held Saturday, July 31, in Orlando, Fla., and the flags at the Kennedy Space Center were flown at half-staff in Roger's honor.

Hazel Helen Hartman
Hazel Helen Hartman, 84, of Cochise, Ariz., died Wednesday, July 7, 2004, in Sierra Vista, Ariz. She was born Aug. 9, 1919, in Indiana.
From 1946 to 1968, she lived in Naperville with her parents, William and Edna (Eichelberger) Hartman, on their 100-acre farm at 87th Street east of Plainfield-Naperville Road (now part of the wildlife preserve). While in Naperville, she taught elementary school in the Naperville area. Naperville's current mayor, A. George Pradel, was one of her students. She taught at Eola, Westmont, Montgomery and Mokerville (outside Aurora) schools.
Survivors include her brothers, Haldon "Red" Hartman of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Berle Hartman of Windsor; and a sister, Jeanette (Hartman) Novello of Wonder Lake.
A memorial service is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 9, at Sunsites, Ariz., Senior Center.

James F. Hartnett
James F. Hartnett, 69, of Aurora died Wednesday, July 7, 2004, at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora. He was born Dec. 8, 1934, in Chicago.
Mr. Hartnett was a veteran who served in the Army during the Korean War. He then worked as a pipe fitter for 46 years and was a member of Pipefitters Union Local 597 in Chicago. He was a breeder of American Staffordshire terriers for many years and was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Church and the American Legion in Aurora.
He is survived by his wife, Cheryl A. (Brotherton); a son, Timothy (wife Renee) of Shorewood; a daughter, Tracey Hartnett of Mount Prospect; and three granddaughters, Amanda, Brittney and Hailey Hartnett, all of Shorewood.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Timothy F. and Louise (Greenwood) Hartnett.
A funeral service will be held at 9:15 a.m. Monday, July 12, at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 24021 W. Royal Worlington Drive (Route 59), Naperville, and proceed to Our Lady of Mercy Church, 801 S. Eola Road, Aurora, for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial.
A visitation will take place from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday, July 9 and 10, (no Sunday visitation) at the funeral home.
