Virginia A. Widman
Virginia A. (McCauley) Widman, 85, a resident of Naperville since 2001 and formerly of Detroit, Livonia and Farmington Hills, Mich., died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004, at St. Patrick's Residence in Naperville. She was born Aug. 22, 1919, in Dubuque, Iowa.
Virginia worked as a bookkeeper for more than 30 years at St. Scholastica Church in Detroit. She enjoyed golf and bridge.
She is survived by two sons, Thomas (wife Susan) Widman of Naperville and Phillip (wife Sharon) Widman of West Simsbury, Conn.; six grandchildren, Matthew (wife Tara) Widman of Mishawaka, Ind., Mark (wife Ildiko) Widman of Edwardsburg, Mich., Kelly, Christie, Thomas and Timothy Widman of West Simsbury; three great-grandchildren, Matthew, Hailee and Erzsebet; a brother, David (wife Darlene) McCauley of McGregor, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Allyn Widman, whom she married
April 29, 1943; her parents, Cyrus and Mary McCauley; and five siblings, Jack, Howard and Norbert McCauley, Marie Schroeder and Helen Washburn.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, at St. Patrick's Residence, 1400 Brookdale Road, Naperville.
Additional visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, at St. Patrick's, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at St. Patrick's Residence Chapel.
Additional visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 4, at St. Scholastica Church, 17320 Rosemont Road, Detroit.
A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 10 a.m. at the church.
Interment will be at Holy Sepulchre cemetery in Southfield, Mich.

Mia Lewis Halliday
Mia Lewis Halliday, 37, of Naperville died Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, at Edward Hospital in Naperville. She was born July 27, 1967, in Middletown, Ohio.
She graduated from Middletown High School, class of 1985, and from The Ohio State University in 1989, with her bachelor's degree in finance. She had worked as a trust officer in banks since college and will be remembered as a devoted wife and mother.
She is survived by her husband, Scott; her children, Bridget and Kellyn; her parents, Maurice and Randa Lewis of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.; her maternal grandmother, Ann Schmacker of Orlando, Fla.; her brother, Mark (wife Yulin) Lewis of Ponte Vedra Beach; her parents-in-law, Donald and Carol Halliday of Bay Village, Ohio; her sisters-in-law, Melissa (husband James) Huddleston of Dublin, Ohio, and Jennifer Halliday of Avon, Ohio; and her nieces, Tia Lewis and Riley Huddleston.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Rand Schmacker.
Memorial visitation will take place from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville, where a memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 8. The Rev. Dean Bouzeos will officiate.
Inurnment will be at Naperville cemetery.

Patrick Kevin Hayes
Patrick Kevin "Pat" Hayes, 49, died Sunday, Sept. 12, 2004, in Makanda as a result of a motorcycle accident. He was born Dec. 27, 1954, in Chicago to Ralph Hayes and Cathy (O'Connell) Josten.
He was employed by Walgreens, where he was an over-the-road truck driver. He was a member of the Herrin Elks. He was Catholic.
He is survived by his mother, Cathy Josten of Herrin; his father, Ralph (wife Patricia) Hayes of Herrin; one sister, Marycolleen Hayes of Oak Lawn; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Michael and Kathie Hayes of Bolingbrook, Ralph and Terri Hayes of Oswego and Sean and Sandra Hayes of Naperville; eight nieces and nephews, Casey (wife Connie) Hayes of Cincinnati, Tricia Hayes, and Crystal, Jodie, Stephanie, Nicholas, Noah and Emma Hayes, all of Naperville; and one great-niece, Mackenzie Hayes of Cincinnati.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Kathleen Susan Hayes.
A service was held Thursday, Sept. 16. Memorials may be made to Toys for Tots.
John Walker Helms
John Walker Helms, 60, of Naperville died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2004, at his home. He was born June 21, 1944, in Hattiesburg, Miss., and had been a resident of Naperville for the past 20 years.
Mr. Helms earned his bachelor's degree in 1966 from Louisiana State University and earned a master's degree in business administration while in the U.S. Air Force. He worked as a construction sales manager for the Northern Illinois Region and was a member of the Union League Club. Mr. Helms served his country with the U.S. Air Force, obtaining the rank of captain and serving from 1967 to 1973, with two tours in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Bronze Star. He also was an Eagle Scout and a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Naperville.
He is survived by three children, John Wesley (wife Kathleen Spillane) Helms of Villa Park, Rebecca (husband Bradley) Mann of Yorkville and James Lewis Helms of DeKalb; two grandchildren, Grace S. Helms and Miles Alexander Mann; a brother, Robert Dale (wife Ellen) Helms of Annapolis, Md.; and two former wives, Janet Seltman of Divide, Colo., and Linda Thomas of Temecula, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Nancy (Walker) Helms.
Visitation will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 516 S. Washington St., Naperville.
A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 1, at Grace United Methodist Church, 300 E. Gartner Road, Naperville.
Interment will follow at Abraham Lincoln National cemetery in Elwood.

Pamela F. Jankowski
Pam F. (Sopka) Jankowski, 56, a resident of Yorkville for five years and formerly of South Holland and Naperville, died Friday, Sept. 24, 2004, at Edward Hospital in Naperville. She was born Nov. 27, 1947, in Buffalo, N.Y.
As a young child, Pam lived briefly in Gary, Ind., and then moved to Chicago. She was a 1965 graduate of Nazareth Academy in La Grange and received her degree in business administration from Loyola University in Chicago in 1969. Pam and her husband, Ed, formerly owned and operated Pam and Ed's Riverwalk Cafe and Deli in downtown Naperville. She was most recently employed as director of admissions at St. Patrick's Residence, a Carmelite nursing home in Naperville, and also worked for Gerald Nissan in Naperville.
She is survived by her husband, Ed Jankowski of Yorkville, whom she married
May 1, 1971, and Sean McMahon of Yorkville; her mother, Monnie Sopka of Naperville; two brothers, Leonard "Lenny" Sopka of Chicago and Dennis (wife Eloise) Sopka of Lombard; a nephew, Dennis Michael Sopka of Hatfield, Pa.; and a niece, Stephanie Sopka of Lombard.
Pam was preceded in death by her father, Edward T. Sopka.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, at St. Patrick's Residence, 1400 Brookdale Road, Naperville.

John A. Esselburn
John A. Esselburn, 61, of Naperville died Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, at Rush North Shore Medical Center in Skokie. He was born Oct. 31, 1942, in Mansfield, Ohio.
John was a 1960 graduate of Aquinas High School in Columbus, Ohio. He graduated from Ohio State University with a bachelor's degree and received his master's degree from Xavier University in Cincinnati. While in Columbus, John worked at Plaskolite Co. and Industrial Nucleonics from 1960 to 1976. From 1976 to 1978, he worked at Exide Power Systems in Richmond, Ky. Upon his move to Chicago in 1978, he started working at Beatrice Foods until 1980 and from 1980 to 1988 was director of manufacturing with Bloomfield Industries. In 1988 he joined Prince Castle as director of manufacturing, was appointed vice president of manufacturing and subsequently appointed senior vice president of engineering and operations. In 2000, John was appointed to the position of president and chief executive officer of Prince Castle.
John served in the U.S. Marine Corps and had been a resident of Naperville for the past 25 years. He was a current member of the Presidents Club at Ohio State University.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryne; his sons, John Matthew Esselburn of Knoxville, Tenn., and David Lawrence Esselburn of Maui, Hawaii; his mother, Henrietta Esselburn of Fort Worth, Texas; his sister, Jean (husband Clifton) Cage of Fort Worth; his brother, James (wife Jenny) Esselburn of Columbus, Ohio; three nephews; and one niece.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Frederick Esselburn.
Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.
Services will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, at the funeral home and proceed to a Mass of Christian burial at 9:30 a.m. at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 36 N. Ellsworth St., Naperville.

Joan Moy Smith
Joan Moy Smith, 76, of Naperville died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004, at Tabor Hills Healthcare Facility in Naperville. She was born June 8, 1928, in Chicago, the daughter of Henry and Gladys Pope Moy, longtime residents of Naperville. She married
Willard R. Smith III in 1956. They divorced in 1982.
Ms. Smith was a 1950 B.A. graduate of North Central College and a 1963 M.A. graduate of the University of Denver. She also received credit for course work at the University of Chicago, University of Colorado, National College of Education, Northern Illinois University, College of Notre Dame, Northeastern Illinois University and DePaul University.
While attending Naperville Community High School, she was a contestant on the WGN "Quiz Kid Show," a radio quiz program.
She taught elementary school in Denver before teaching in Naperville public schools. There she taught in programs for gifted and learning-disabled students for 23 years, before retiring in 1993.
She is survived by a daughter, Juliet (husband Jason) Glazier of Vero Beach, Fla.; a brother, Dr. Richard Moy (wife Caryl Towsley) of Springfield; and a sister, Pamela (husband William) Scavarda of Milan.
She was a member of Community United Methodist Church, 20 N. Center St., Naperville, where a memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 1, with the Rev. Thomas Babler officiating.
Interment will be private.

Edward H. Kitze
Edward H. Kitze, 100, of Naperville died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004, at St. Patrick's Residence in Naperville. He was born May 15, 1904, in Bay City, Mich.
Mr. Kitze received a B.S. degree in 1931 from the University of Iowa and an M.S. degree in English literature from the University of Michigan in 1938. He worked for more than 25 years at Western Electric at their Cicero plant, retiring in 1969. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Hawthorne Club - Night Faculty. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a former member of the Divine Infant Parish in Westchester. He loved to grow and show irises and was a member of the Iris Society.
He is survived by a daughter, Catherine (husband Edward Jr. "Ned" Hoffman) of Naperville; two granddaughters, Christine Hoffman of Naperville and Carolyn Hoffman of Raleigh, N.C.; and two sisters, Marjorie Armbrust of Medford, Wis., and Lois Smithies of Madison, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie; parents, Herman and Mary (Kerznowski) Kitze; four brothers, Theodore, Clarence, Frederick and William; and a sister, Elaine Piltz.
Visitation will take place from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 516 S. Washington St., Naperville.

Robert W. Kraft
Robert W. Kraft, 79, died Monday, Aug. 16, 2004, at home. He was born in Chicago.
He was the beloved husband of Loraine. The Krafts were married
for 55 years and lived in Naperville for 36 years.
Mr. Kraft worked for Crain Communications and was vice president of production when he retired.

Lelah F. Laney
Lelah F. (Whittle) Laney, 86, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, at St. Patrick's Residence in Naperville, her home for more than 11 years. She was born in Versailles, Mo.
She is survived by two daughters, Susan Bopp (husband Paul) Norris of Chicago and Theresa Bopp Hovis of Houston, Texas; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold and Lester Whittle; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the former wife of the late Leo A. Bopp of Sedalia, Mo., and widow of the late Lloyd G. Laney of Houston and Conroe, Texas. Her parents and seven siblings also preceded her in death.
A memorial Mass will be said at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, at St. Patrick's Residence, 1400 Brookdale Road, Naperville, IL 60563.
A Requiem Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 11, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 109 N. Frazier, Conroe, Texas, with interment immediately following in Garden Park cemetery in Conroe.
