Robert J. Raymond
Robert J. Raymond, 91, of Naperville and Columbus, Miss., died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, at Edward Hospital in Naperville. He was born Sept. 13, 1913, in Chicago.
He was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church and had been a resident of Naperville since 1941. The owner and operator of Raymond Lumber Co., once located in Washington state, he was employed as a sales representative by Celotex prior to opening his own lumberyard. He served a 28-year tenure on the DuPage County Board, where he was instrumental in adding thousands of acres to forest preserves in DuPage County. In 1997, Raymond Drive was named to honor his work with the DuPage County Highway Department.
He was known for his philanthropy, especially as the founding father of the Naperville United Way in 1951. He was the oldest member of the Naperville Noon Rotary. His love of horses drove him to be a charter member of the Naperville Saddle Club. He was a graduate of Leo High School in Chicago and St. Ambrose College in Davenport, Iowa.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mae (Roche) of Naperville; five children, Dolores (Michael) Marusha of South Carolina, Marilynn (Joseph) Vannucci of Connecticut, Barbara (Thomas) Jansz of Elizabeth, James Raymond of Naperville and Robert Raymond Jr. of Mississippi; six grandchildren, Nancy Creel, Sue Bentlage, Mary Pat Martin, Katie and Molly Vannucci and James Raymond Jr.; and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at noon Wednesday, Nov. 24, at SS Peter and Paul Church, 36 N. Ellsworth St., Naperville.
Interment will be at SS Peter and Paul cemetery in Naperville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be directed to SS Peter and Paul School Development Fund or to the charity of the donor's choice.
Florence T. Gidewall
Florence T. Gidewall, 89, of Naperville died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004, at Community Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Naperville. She was born March 11, 1915, in Chicago. She was a resident of Worth for 50 years and came to Naperville 10 years ago.
She was a longtime member of the Elim Evangelical Free Church in Oak Lawn.
She is survived by her sons, Kenneth (wife Carolyn) Gidewall of Naperville and Elmer (wife Mary Ann) Gidewall of Travelers Rest, S.C.; six grandchildren, Kenton (wife Michelle), Elizabeth, Erik and Edward Gidewall, Kristen (husband Tim) Berns and Dana (husband Stanford) Brown; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Erik G. Gidewall; her parents, Gotthard and Anna (Olson) Erikson; and her brothers, Ted, Oscar, Rudolph and Walter Erickson.
A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 29, at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 516 S. Washington St., Naperville.
Interment will be at Elm Lawn cemetery in Elmhurst.
Visitation will take place from 10 a.m. until time of service Monday at the funeral home.

Edmundo de la Hoz
Edmundo de la Hoz, 78, a resident of Naperville since 1965, died Monday, Nov. 8, 2004, at Loyola Medical Center in Maywood. He was born Aug. 30, 1926, in Cuba.
He was a retired supervisor from Bell Labs in Naperville with 23 years of service. He was a member of SS Peter and Paul Church.
Survivors include his wife, Norma; four children, Edmundo (wife Nancy) of Aurora, Vivian (husband Robert) McDonald of Minnesota, Carlos (wife Margaret) of Aurora and Maria (husband Richard) Rothman of Naperville; eight grandchildren, Andre, Nicole, Alicia, Megan, Samantha, Kevin, Cody and Ian; a brother, Angelo of Aurora; and a sister, Mirian de la Hoz of Cuba.
Visitation will take place from 4 until 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 12, at SS Peter and Paul Church, 36 N. Ellsworth St., Naperville.
Interment will follow at SS Peter and Paul cemetery in Naperville.

Gerald Keeney
Gerald Keeney, 61, of Naperville died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004, at home. He was born March 29, 1943, in Moline.
He was a Navy veteran and worked in the banking industry for J.P. Morgan.
He is survived by three children, Sarah, Erin and Michael Keeney; and his twin brother, Jim Keeney of Macomb.
Visitation was held Saturday, Nov. 13, at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home in Lisle.
Interment will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, at Oakwood cemetery in Macomb.

Harley Dallas Clemens
Harley Dallas Clemens, age 80, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, at his home in Naperville. He was born in Dumont, Iowa, on May 25, 1924, to Harry Earl Clemens and Elizabeth Harms Clemens.
He attended both Dumont grade and high schools. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the South Pacific (New Guinea, Indonesia, the Philippines and Japan). Following the war, he attended Iowa State University and received a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering in 1949. On Dec. 28, 1948, Harley and Ruth O'Kelly were married
in Iowa Falls, Iowa. They lived in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where Harley was the manager of the power plant for Iowa Electric Light and Power Co. In 1956 they moved to Warrenville and in 1957 to Naperville. Harley was employed by Sargent and Lundy, an engineering company in Chicago. He retired in 1986.
In addition to his wife, Ruth, he is survived by three sons, Martin (wife Joyce) of Las Vegas, Roger (wife Anne) of Hinsdale and Daniel (wife Kyle) of Naperville; and five grandchildren, Ryan, Erik, Elizabeth, Jeffrey and Mitchell Clemens.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Floyd; and a sister, Glenora Zimmerman.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 516 S. Washington St., Naperville. Interment will take place at Naperville cemetery. A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Robert B. Piper
Robert B. Piper, age 78, of Naperville, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield. He was born Nov. 21, 1925, in Peoria.
He was a graduate of Bradley University, class of 1950, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was employed by Prudential Insurance Co. for 37 years and retired in 1987. He earned his chartered life underwriter and certified financial consultant designations. He had been a Naperville resident since 1970 and was a member of SS Peter and Paul Church. He enjoyed traveling, tennis, swimming, weekly German classes and, most of all, his family. He was able to be an organ donor in memory of his grandson, Jason, who was also an organ donor.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marjorie (Reed); four children, Stephen R. (wife Jane) Piper of Charlotte, N.C., Nancy L. (husband Bud) Stein of Naperville, Daniel M. Piper of Lisle and Patrick A. (wife Carole) of Naperville; seven grandchildren, Kristin Clark, Jeffrey and Michael Piper, Brian Bill, Corey Stein and Keith and Scott Piper; and a great-granddaughter, Samantha Jane Clark.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert L. and Lena M. Piper; two grandsons, Jason Bill and Kevin Piper; a granddaughter, Jaclyn Piper; and a sister, Madelyn McGovern.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.

James R. VanNortwick
James Russell VanNortwick, 96, passed away Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004, at Sunrise Assisted Living of Naperville.
"Van" served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945, and retired in 1972 as regional mechanical manager after a 46-year career with the Burlington Northern Railroad.
He is survived by his daughter, Jean of Naperville; his brother, John (wife Colleen) of Fremont, Calif.; a sister, Pauline (husband Merrill) of Placerville, Calif.; 16 nieces and nephews, including Linda (husband Philip) Swain of Cheny, Kan.; a cousin, Christi (husband Jim) Greenlee; and special friends, Harold Majewski and Jo Holm.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Annette, in 1998.
A funeral Mass was held Saturday, Nov. 6, at St. Barbara's of Brookfield, where he had formerly been a parishioner for 43 years.
Therese M. (Marsolais) Leary
Therese M. (Marsolais) Leary, 75, of Lombard died Friday, Nov. 5, 2004, at Sherman Hospital in Elgin.
Mrs. Leary had been a resident of Lombard since 1954. She retired as a registered nurse from Alexian Brothers 12 years ago. She earned her nursing degree from St. Joseph Hospital in Chicago. She was active at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lombard.
She is survived by her husband, Cornelius; nine children, Margaret (husband Henry) Kacinskas of Katy, Texas, Nancy (husband Fred) Haines of Naperville, Stephen (wife Michele) of Winfield, Michael (wife Nancy) of Naperville, Christine (husband Gary) Olson of Elmhurst, Thomas (wife Marilyn) of Carol Stream, Robert of Third Lake, Ill., Patricia (husband Nicolai) Zvirbulis of North Barrington and Daniel (wife Susan) of Lombard; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her sister, Mary Louise Tofari of Florida; her sisters-in-law, Frances Marsolais of California and Eleanor Marsolais of Palatine; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Mrs. Leary was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Marsolais and Vincent L. Marsolais, and a sister, Rita Schneidt.
Visitation will take place from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday, Nov. 8, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
A funeral service will begin with prayers at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, at Brust Funeral Home before a 10 a.m. Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lombard.

Elsie M. (Margies) Hartmann, 84, a five-year resident of Naperville and a former resident of Chicago and Bolingbrook, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004, at ManorCare Health Services in Naperville. She was born June 18, 1920, in Essen, Germany.

Norman 'Norm' Carroll
Norman "Norm" Carroll, 61, of Montgomery passed away Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, at Copley Hospital in Aurora.
He was the beloved husband of Lee; fond stepfather of Gary Farrell and family; and dear brother of Jim (wife Julia) Carroll and their family. He is also survived by a large extended family; three godsons; and his co-workers at the Naperville post office.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Clare Carroll.
According to his wishes, there will be no funeral services conducted.
Norm's valiant struggle with ulcerative colitis did not deter him from being a loving family man, dear friend and conscientious worker.
We will always love you and miss you. Rest in peace, big sweets!
Walter Larkin McHugh
Walter Larkin McHugh, 88, of Chicago died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004. He was born Jan. 23, 1916.
He was a World War II veteran, a specialist in the SeaBee's. He was a retired lifelong employee of Illinois Bell, after 42 years of service. He was a member of the Illinois Bell Pioneers and the Toastmasters of Chicago. He was an adviser consultant for telecommunications in The Philippines.
He is survived by his loving children, Joseph (wife Judy) and Mary Anne (husband William) Halamicek; his cherished grandchildren, Jason, Christopher, Michael and Stephen; five siblings, Marie (husband Robert) Rasmussen, Frank, James, Virginia Kemp and Edmund McHugh; a godson, William J. Kemp Jr.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Madonna C. (Quinn) McHugh; three sisters-in-law, Ethel, Mary and Vera; and a brother-in-law, William Kemp.
Visitation will take place from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, at Andrew J. McGann and Son Funeral Home, 10727 S. Pulaski Road, Chicago.
A funeral service will begin at 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 15, from the funeral home and proceed to St. Julie Billiart Church for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial.

Lawrence Henry Musak
Lawrence Henry Musak, 85, a resident of Naperville since 1969, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004, at Edward Hospital in Naperville. He was born Oct. 19, 1919, in Peshtigo, Wis.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II in the Pacific theater. He worked for Harper Wyman Co. for more than 22 years and retired in 1986.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine (Gierut) Musak of Naperville; a son, Gregory (wife Madelaine) Musak of Wheaton; a daughter, Christine (husband Robert) Davidson of Baltimore, Md.; a grandson, James Davidson; and a sister, Helen Hestroffer of Homer Glen Township.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Mary Musak; a sister, Genevieve Kerbs; and four brothers, Joseph, Leo, Frank and Floyd.
