Robert Briggs Jr.
Robert C. Briggs Jr., 66, of Sugar Grove, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004 in Villa Park.
Visitation was held Sunday, Dec. 21, at Brust Villa Park Funeral Home, 305 S. Princeton, Villa Park. Interment was private at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mr. Briggs was the father of Scott R. of Villa Park and Mark A. (Debra L.) of Villa Park, grandfather of four, and brother of Diane (Jon) Aurich.
Mr. Briggs had retired after 25 years with the Heat & Insulator Union Local #17.
The Rev. Rocco DiLeonardi
The Rev. Rocco DiLeonardi, 73, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 7, at the National Shrine of St. Therese in Darien. Interment was at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Chicago on Wednesday, Dec. 8.
Rev. DiLeonardi was the uncle of a niece and several nephews; and friend to many, including his Carmelite community. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rocco and Rose DiLeonardi; and brother, Frank.
Rev. DiLeonardi was born in Chicago and was ordained as a priest in Washington, D.C., in 1956.
Rev. DiLeonardi served at the former St. Mary's Parish in Joliet and St. Leo's Parish in Pittsburgh, Pa.; and worked in formation at Infant of Prague in Akron, Ohio. He taught high school, did formation seminary work in Milwaukee, Wis.; served in spiritual ministry in Darien; and was a counselor at Joliet Catholic Academy in Joliet. He retired in 2000 and was living at the St. Elias Priory in Joliet. He was a member and former president of the Foreign Language Association of the Archdiocese of Louisville, and a former member of the Executive Council of the Senate of Religions.
Joseph Hertelendi
Joseph F. Hertelendi, 81, of Lombard, died Friday, Dec. 10, 2004 at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital in Elmhurst.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 14, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, with the Rev. Thomas Milota officiating. Interment was at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Hillside.
Mr. Hertelendi was the husband of Rose; father of Joseph Chester of Lombard; brother of Elizabeth Kron, Josephine Wojak, Robert (Bernice), Adele (Al) Mrohen and Michael (Martha); and uncle of many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Frank Joseph; brother, Mathias Merstorf; brothers-in-law, Nick Kron and Ben Wojak; and sister-in-law, Sylvia Merstorf.
Mr. Hertelendi was a veteran of World War II, and served under Gen. George Patton. He was a past member of the VFW and a past member of the Elmhurst Moose.
Jeanette Kehring
Jeanette I. Kehring, 86, of Willowbrook, formerly of Villa Park, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004 at Hinsdale Hospital in Hinsdale.
Funeral services and intermenty were private.
Mrs. Kehring was the mother of Keith (Virginia), James and Susan Wethern; grandmother of seven; and great-grandmother of three. She was preceded in death by her brother, Paul (Marian) Beutjer; and sister, Dorothy (Charles) Wean.
Mrs. Kehring was retired after working as a bookkeeper.
Arrangements were made by Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.
Christine Koeb
Christine Koeb, nee Stocco, 28, of Arizona, formerly of Lombard, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004 in Arizona.
A memorial service will be held today, Dec. 15, at First Church of Lombard in Lombard.
Mrs. Koeb was the wife of David; mother of Ariana Mae; sister of Peter M. Stocco; daughter of Ellen Mae (Philip) Jeffrey and Peter Stocco; granddaughter of Noreen Holmgren and Peter and Ciara Stocco; niece of Linda and Michael Hallman, Bernadine and Brian Skokowski of Lombard, Paula and Len Stoia and Frank and Debbie Stocco; and cousin of many.
Mrs. Koeb was born in Elmhurst and grew up in Lombard, attending Pleasant Lane School, Lombard Junior High School, Glenbard East High School and Northern Illinois University, where she majored in elementary education to pursue a teaching career. She moved from Lombard to Streamwood, then relocated to Gilbert and then Tolleson, Ariz.
John Moll
John E. Moll, 16, of Lombard, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004 in Lombard.
Visitation will be today, Dec. 15, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 16, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Lombard. Interment is at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
John was the son of Matthew and Barbara; brother of Brian; and nephew of Carey, Tom and Bart Doan. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ray and Shirley Moll; and Joseph and Joan Doan.
John attended St. Joseph High School in Westchester where he was a sophomore basketball player. He also played soccer and baseball. John always had a smile on his face.
Elden Schalk
Elden Schalk, 75, of Lombard, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004 at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital in Elmhurst.
Funeral services will be held today, Dec. 15, at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in Lombard, with the Rev. Daniel Wegrzyn and the Rev. Patrick Boomhower officiating. Interment is local.
Mr. Schalk was the husband of Ruth, father of Nancy Schalk and James (Pat), grandfather of two, son of Emma, and friend of many. He was preceded in death by his father, Otto.
Mr. Schalk was born in the family home in Chicago. He attended St. Matthew Lutheran Church and graduated from St. Matthew Lutheran School in 1943, and from the Luther Institute in 1947. He worked as a salesman for American Steel & Wire from 1947-57, and with Northwestern Steel & Wire from 1957-92, when he retired. After retiring, he worked part-time with Brust Funeral Home until 1998.
Mr. Schalk had been a member of St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church since 1958, where he had been active, formerly as an elder; a former chairman of the board of education; and a member of the dart team, where he had been captain several times since 1958. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the York Township Senior Golf League.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, 215 S. Lincoln, Lombard, IL 60148, would be appreciated.

Charlotte Schermerhorn
Charlotte Jean Schermerhorn, nee Brogan, 77, of Naperville, formerly of Wheaton, died Monday, Dec. 6, 2004 in Naperville.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 9, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Naperville. Interment was at Arlington Cemetery in Elmhurst.
Mrs. Schermerhorn was the mother of Fay E. Merten, grandmother of one, great-grandmother of one, and aunt of two nephews and one niece. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Bernice Brogan and Grace Hall; and parents, Ralph and Ella Brogan.
Mrs. Schermerhorn grew up in Oak Park and worked for over 50 years as a secretary in Chicago and the suburbs. She had worked for the DuPage County Health Department for over 20 years, and for seven years as a part-time receptionist for the Naperville Park District until 2002. She was a member of the Joliet Illinois Stake, Naperville Third Ward, of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Naperville.
