Clarence Haas Sr.
Clarence J. Haas Sr., 87, of Lombard, died Friday, Sept. 22, 2000 at Manor Care of Westmont.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Sept. 25, at Humes Funeral Home, Addison, with Rev. Tom Noll officiating. Interment was at Evergreen Cemetery, Evergreen Park.
Mr. Haas was the husband of Beth Ann; father of Clarence Jr. (Denise), Deborah Lynn (Frank) Cason, Curt F. (Tammy), Mary Beth (Gary) Schultz, Chris of Lombard, Craig of Lombard and Amy (Edward) Berg of Lombard; grandfather of eight; great-grandfather of four; and uncle of two nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, John (Ruth) Haas.
Mr. Haas was a custodian at Indian Trail Junior High School in Addison.
David Johnson
David E. Johnson, 84, of Downers Grove, formerly of Villa Park, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000 at Rest Haven West.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 7, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lombard. Interment was private.
Mr. Johnson was the husband of Joyce; father of Phyllis Knapp, Bonnie (Duane) Hesterman, Janet (Allan) Stoll, David (Marlene), Paul (Melanie) and Joyce (Rick) Rhodes; grandfather of 19; and great-grandfather of three. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Erwin Knapp; and brother, Martin (Ruth) Johnson.
Mr. Knapp was a retired engineer for a utility company.
Arrangements were made by Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.
Michael Martirano Sr.
Michael Martirano Sr., 67, of Glen Ellyn, died Monday, Oct. 2, 2000 at home.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at Williams-Kampp Funeral Home, 430 E. Roosevelt Road, Wheaton. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 5, at St. James the Apostle Church. Interment will be at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside.
Mr. Martirano was the husband of Diane, father of Dr. Michael Jr. (Valerie) and Angela (Glenn) Hookham; grandfather of four, son-in-law of Rose Green holt, brother of Sam (Paulette), brother-in-law of George (Sandy) Green holt, and uncle of many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Salvatore and Francis; father-in-law, George Green holt; and brothers, Anthony and Joseph.
Mr. Martirano worked as a meat cutter after high school and in 1967, became owner of his own meat market, Michael's Finer Meats of Lombard, which he owned and operated for eight years. He belonged to the Meat Cutters' Union, and after leaving the meat cutting business, started working in the upholstery business. In 1975 he became the owner of F. J. Furniture/Upholstery World of Lombard, which he owned for 25 years.
Mr. Martirano was an avid outdoorsman who hunted and fished for big game throughout Africa and North America. He was a member of Safari Club International and a lifetime member of the NRA.

Edith Oetzell
Edith I. Oetzell, 94, of Villa Park, died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000 at home.
Funeral services and intermenty were private.
Mrs. Oetzell was the mother of Edith Marie and Walter Allen (Mercedes), grandmother of five, great-grandmother of eight, sister of Earl and Cary Morgan Delacy, and aunt of several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Oetzell was retired as a private secretary for a builder.

Rita Piper
Rita Piper, nee Ankiewicz, 72, of Oak Brook, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Sept. 29, at Ascension of Our Lord Church in Lombard, with Rev. Vytas Memenas officiating. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside.
Mrs. Piper was the wife of John A., mother of Brian (Emma) and Timothy (Therese) of Lombard, grandmother of six, sister of Robert (Dorie) Ankiewicz and sister-in-law of Raymond (Grace) Piper. She was preceded in death by her brother, Daniel Ankiewicz; brothers-in law, Vernon Piper and Ambrose Piper; and sisters-in-law, Betty Piper and Elizabeth Piper.
Mrs. Piper was a homemaker.

Norma Starzman
Norma M. Starzman, 70, of Villa Park, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000 at home.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Sept. 29, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 250 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment was at St. Lucas Cemetery, Chicago.
Mrs. Starzman was the mother of Holly (Jay) Landem and Joy, and grandmother of three.
Mrs. Starzman was a retired secretary for a trucking company.

Albert Steinbach
Albert F. "Al" Steinbach, 84, of Villa Park, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2000 at home.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Sept. 30, at Peace Lutheran Church, Lombard. Interment was at Chapel Hill Gardens West, Oakbrook Terrace.
Mr. Steinbach was the husband of Barbara; father of Fred (Mary), Charles (Debra), Robert (Sandy) and Larry (Pam); and grandfather of nine.
Mr. Steinbach was a veteran of the Army Signal Corp. and a member of the Villa Park VFW, Lions Club and Elmhurst American Legion. He was a former owner of Elmhurst TV.

Karl Younger
Karl L. Younger, 58, of Lombard, died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000 at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Oct. 2, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, with Rev. Patrick Boomhower of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Interment was at Glen Oak Cemetery, Hillside.
Mr. Younger was the husband of Joan B.; father of Karl L. II (Stephanie) and Matthew; brother of Edward Jr., Rev. Melvin (Jan) and Faith (Rudolph) Richter; brother-in-law of Gayle Pearl; and uncle of many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Roy.
Mr. Younger was a resident of Lombard for 31 years. He was owner-president of Williams Consolidation Industries in Berwyn for 17 years. He was a former member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lombard, and was a member of the B.R. Ryall YMCA in Glen Ellyn for over 30 years.
