Francis Guardalabene
Francis J. Guardalabene, 82, of Villa Park, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006 at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital in Elmhurst.
Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 27, with prayers from Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park, to Mass at St. Alexander Church in Villa Park. Entombment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mr. Guardalabene was the husband of Felice; father of John (Sue) Riley, Antoinette Brady, Christina (Ray) Gastonguay, Michael (Bernadette) Riley, Eileen and Terry (Julie); grandfather of 12; great-grandfather of 19; brother of Nic (the late Rose), Josephine (James) Allegretti, Rose (Len) Hughes and Joseph (Mary) Guardalabene; and uncle of many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Marino Guardalabene.
Mr. Guardalabene was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II. He was the co-owner of a cheese company.

Susan Lewis
Susan Lee Lewis, nee Behning, of Lombard, died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006 at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital in Elmhurst.
A memorial service was held Friday, Jan. 27, at Bloomingdale Church in Bloomingdale.
Mrs. Lewis was the mother of Charles, Anton (Renee), Terrie Burke and Critter (Holly); grandmother of seven; sister of Judy (John) Carrera, Deborah (Todd) Heuer, Roger (Donna) Darby and Leroy (Debbie) Darby; and aunt of many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Rosemarie (George) Snyder.
Mrs. Lewis was a longtime resident of Lombard, and was a homemaker.
Ethel Makely
Ethel Dee Makely, 66, of Downers Grove, formerly of Berwyn, died Friday, Jan. 27, 2006 in Downers Grove.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 31, at Adams-Winterfield & Sullivan Funeral Home, 4343 Main St., Downers Grove. Interment was private.
Mrs. Makely was the wife of William O.; mother of Jennifer (Paul Schumann) Makely, Kathy (Mike) Vesevick of Lombard and Gordon; grandmother of five; and sister of Frank, John (Lisa) and Bill (Dolly) Dee.
Mrs. Makely attended College of DuPage and Governors State University. She had worked as a mental health counselor in private practice and was formerly a counselor for the Village of Downers Grove; and was involved in the Girl Scouts of DuPage, Campfire USA and New Day Center of Hinsdale Hospital.

Audrey Pfeifer
Audrey L. Pfeifer, nee McIntosh, 92, of Wheaton, formerly of Warson Woods, Mo., died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006 at Wynscape Nursing and Rehabilitation in Wheaton.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 28, at Glendale Lutheran Church in Glendale, Mo. Interment was at St. Paul Churchyard Cemetery in Missouri.
Mrs. Pfeifer was the mother of Ellen C. Pfeifer (Daniel Polvere) and Peg (Bob) Alvis, and grandmother of three. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. George Edward; and brother, William.
Mrs. Pfeifer was a resident of Wheaton for seven years and was formerly a resident for over 80 years of the St. Louis area, where she graduated from high school. She resided in Warson Woods for over 40 years, and was a member of Glendale Lutheran Church for over 35 years.

John Rudins Sr.
John J. Rudins Sr., 83, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006 at St. Patrick's Residence in Naperville.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 28, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at Sacred Heart Church in Lombard. Interment was at Assumption Cemetery in Winfield.
Mr. Rudins was the father of John. J. Jr. of Lombard, Sally A., Nancy A., Judith A., David J., James A. (Donna) of Lombard, Carolyn M. Casper of Villa Park and Mark J. (Tina); grandfather of four; brother of Jerome (Rosemarie) Ruddins; and uncle of many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Marie; daughter, Susan; sisters, Phyllis Adriansen, Beatrice Gorzynski, Adeline Nelson, Virginia Pyka and Mildred Spiedel; and brother, James.
Mr. Rudins was a resident of Lombard since 1955. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, having served in the China, India, Burma Campaign, and had retired from RAC after 40 years working as a branch manager. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, where he was a member of the Sacred Heart Holy Name Society, a commentator, lector and Eucharistic minister; served on the German Fest committee and the parking lot committee and the Sacred Heart Athletic Association; and was a 4th Degree member and past grand knight of Father Boecker Council #6090.

Acey Swearingen
Acey A. Swearingen, 92, of Lombard, died Sunday, Jan. 22, 2006 in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 26, at the Colonial Chapel of Sullivan-Heaster Funeral Home in Marshall, Texas. Interment was at Algoma Cemetery in Marshall.
Mr. Swearingen was the husband of Dorothy; father of Acey (Lee) Swearingen, Dean (Connie) Peterson of Lombard and Becky; grandfather of six; and brother of Iris Phipps. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Mollie Swearingen; brothers, Ben E. Swearingen Jr. and M.D. Swearingen; and sisters, Lillie Edwards, Iola Mercer and Marie Overlock.
Mr. Swearingen was born in Marshall, where he graduated from high school, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He had worked as a wholesaler of candy and tobacco for Swearingen Tobacco Co. from 1945 until his retirement in 1979. He was a member of the National Tobacco Association, Texas Tobacco Association and the Arkansas Wholesale Grocers and Tobacco Association.
Rosemarie Bach
Rosemarie Bach, 70, of Elmhurst, died Sunday, June 4, 2006 at Lexington of Elmhurst.
A memorial visitation and service will be held Saturday, June 10, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment is private.
Mrs. Bach was the mother of Lorraine (Bob) Jessel, Kent (Vivian) and Ronald (Kris); grandmother of two; and sister of Walter Schneider. She was preceded in death by her sister, Giesla Steltzer.
Mrs. Bach was a 42-year resident of Elmhurst, and was a homemaker.
Rose Buffa
Rose S. Buffa, nee Lumino, 77, of Glen Ellyn and Largo, Fla., died Saturday, June 3, 2006 in Glen Ellyn.
Funeral services will be held today, June 7, with prayers from Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., to Mass at Sacred Heart Church in Lombard. Entombment is at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mrs. Buffa was the wife of Albert V. Sr.; mother of Patricia Pepe, Albert V. Jr. (Martha) and Kathleen (Louis III) Varzino; grandmother of eight; great-grandmother of three; sister of six sisters and two brothers; and aunt of many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Diane Stoltz.
