Nick Delmonico
Nick Delmonico, 90, of Villa Park, died Monday, May 29, 2006 at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital in Elmhurst.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 2, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at St. Pius X Church in Lombard. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mr. Delmonico was the uncle of Patsy Ann Scalzitti and many other nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Patsy (the late Harry) Scalzitti and Phyllis (the late James) Scalzitti; and brother, John (the late Kay) Delmonico.
Mr. Delmonico was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II. He had retired after 40 years of service with the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, 3rd Degree and of the Lombard Camera Club. He was an avid Cubs and sports fan.
The Rev. Charles Gemskie
The Rev. Charles A. "Chuck" Gemskie, 75, of Naperville, died Sunday, June 4, 2006 at St. Patrick's Residence in Naperville.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 8, at Corpus Christi Parish in Carol Stream; Friday, June, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Naperville; and Saturday, June 10, at St. Mathias Catholic Church in Chicago, followed by a Mass of Christian burial in the church. Interment is at St. Boniface Cemetery in Chicago.
Rev. Gemskie was the brother of James (Josephine) Gemskie and Jerome (Nancy) Gemskie, and uncle and great-uncle of many. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Anna Gemskie; and brother, Walter (the late Theresa) Gemskie.
Rev. Gemskie was a graduate of DePaul Academy High School in Chicago, and of St. Ambrose College, where he received a bachelor of arts degree in 1956. He pursued graduate studies at Northeastern Illinois University, and taught for the next 20 years.
After completing studies at Sacred Heart School of Theology in Hales Corners, Wis., Rev. Gemskie was ordained in 1977 at St. Petronille Parish in Glen Ellyn, where he was assigned as parochial vicar. In 1980, he served at Sacred Heart Parish in Lombard as parochial vicar and in 1981 became chaplain at Montini Catholic High School in Lombard, with residence at Holy Trinity Parish in Westmont.
Rev. Gemskie then served as parochial vicar at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in Naperville in 1986, before being named founding pastor of Corpus Christi Parish in 1989. He retired in 2004, then served as temporary administrator of St. John the Baptist Church in Winfield for a year. He returned to St. Thomas the Apostle Parish as a retired priest in residence in 2005.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the V Foundation for Cancer Research, 106 Towerview Ct., Cary, NC 27513, would be appreciated.

Genevieve Kapanowski
Genevieve A. Kapanowski, nee Korzen, 87, of Lombard, died Saturday, June 3, 2006 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 6, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lombard. Interment was at St. Michael Cemetery in Wheaton.
Mrs. Kapanowski was the mother of Stanley Marion (America) Kurkowski and Lydia (Gerald) Orzech of Lombard, stepmother of Leon Kozicki and Rita Trojanek, grandmother of eight, great-grandmother of 13, and aunt of many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Anna Korzen; husbands, Stanley Kurkowski, Leo Kozicki and Casimir Kapanowski; sisters, Olga, Mary and Bernice; and brother, Tadius.
Mrs. Kapanowski was born in Chicago. She enjoyed gardening, dancing and volunteering, and was very proud of her Polish heritage and her family.
Michael Militello
Michael "Milo" Militello, 67, of Lombard, died Sunday, May 30, 2006 at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital in Elmhurst.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 3, with prayers from Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park, to Mass at St. Alexander Church in Villa Park. Interment was at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Hillside.
Mr. Militello was the husband of Jeri; former husband of Patricia and Marjorie; father of Michael A., Debbie (Michael) Ghorbani and Terri (Thomas) Iazzetta; grandfather of seven; brother of Maryann (Bob) Keil and Sam (Reno); and stepfather of Deanna and Darci Biscan, Lynn Lalagos, Cheri Grosso and Dan Helms.
Mr. Militello was a lifelong singer and entertainer.

Lois Naumes
Lois E. Naumes, nee Bayles, 84, of Lombard, formerly of Harwood Heights, died Saturday, May 29, 2006 at DuPage Convalescent Home in Wheaton.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 5, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lombard. Interment was at St. Joseph Cemetery in River Grove.
Mrs. Naumes was the mother of Michael (Kathy), Catherine Smyk of Lombard, Jeanette and John (Joan); grandmother of nine; and great-grandmother of two. She was preceded in death by her husband, William M.; and son-in-law, Stanley Smyk.
Mrs. Naumes was a resident of Harwood Heights from 1948-89.

Anna Schmidt
Anna R. Schmidt, nee Ridder, 94, of Lombard, formerly of Cicero and Naperville, died Thursday, June 1, 2006 at ManorCare Nursing Home in Naperville.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 5, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville. Interment was at Forest Home Cemetery in Forest Park.
Mrs. Schmidt was the mother of Joan A. LeFavor and Joseph, grandmother of three, great-grandmother of seven, great-great-grandmother of one, sister of Rose (Norman) Evenhuis, and aunt of numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Grace Ridder; husband Joseph; and six siblings.
Mrs. Schmidt was retired after 20 years working at Western Electric Co. in Cicero.
Rex Slocum
Rex V. Slocum, 62, of Yorkville, died Friday, May 26, 2006 in Yorkville.
A memorial service was held Saturday, June 3, at the Larson-Nelson Funeral Home, 410 E. Countryside, Yorkville. Interment was private.
Mr. Slocum was the husband of Patricia J.; father of Jenna and David; stepbrother of Maj. Hoyt Slocum, Maj. Mark Slocum, Susan (Tim) Pecaro, Jon Slocum and Paul Slocum; son-in-law of Theresa Matula; brother-in-law of Diane (Laddie) Macek, Richard (Barbara) Matula, Joe (Jan) Matula, Jeannie (Mike) Pajor and Judy (Dale) Clark; and uncle of several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Mary Slocum; stepmother, Dorothy Slocum; and father-in-law, Joseph Matula.
Mr. Slocum was a veteran of the U. S. Army Special Forces during the Vietnam War. He was a former professor at both St. Francis College, Fort Wayne, Ind., and at College of DuPage. He was then employed as vice president of human resources with John M. Smyth-Homemakers and as the facility manager of several different corporations in the Chicagoland area. He enjoyed being outdoors, and fishing with family and friends.

Mary Wawak
Mary L. Wawak, 81, of Villa Park, died Monday, May 29, 2006 at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital in Elmhurst.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 1, at Immaculate Conception Church in Elmhurst. Interment was at Mt. Emblem Cemetery.
Mrs. Wawak was the wife of Franklin "Bo"; sister of Virginia (Louis) Coulombe, James (Helen) Hrovatin and Dorothy Hrovatin; and aunt of many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Wawak was a homemaker.
