Hazel Gerger

Hazel J. Gerger, 91, of Villa Park, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2007 in Villa Park.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 23, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave. Villa Park. Interment was private.

Mrs. Gerger was the mother of Susan Youngs and Russell, grandmother of one, and aunt of one. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard M.

Mrs. Gerger was a homemaker.

Jerry Svoboda

Jerry L. Svoboda, 61, of Chicago, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2007 at Lincoln Park Hospital in Chicago.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 20, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.

Mr. Svoboda was the brother of Ronald J., Kurt M. (Heidi) and Cheryl L. (Heinz) Mkrtschjan of Lombard; uncle of nine; great-uncle of five; nephew of Ralph and Norma Mathes; and special friend of Stacy and John Foutris. He was preceded in death by his brother, Barry Svoboda of Lombard; and parents, Howard and Evelyn M. Svoboda of Lombard.

Mr. Svoboda was born in Chicago and grew up in Oak Park, where he attended Oak Park River Forest High School. He was a 40-year resident of the north side of Chicago, and was an avid White Sox fan.

Memorials to White Sox Charities, 333 W. 35th St., Chicago, IL 60616, would be appreciated.

Betty Salazar

Betty J. Salazar, nee Haggenmacher, 71, of Lombard, died Monday, Jan. 22, 2007 in Lombard.

Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 25, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 26, at the funeral home. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Glen Ellyn.

Mr. Salazar was the mother of Kathy (Charles Jr.) O'Brien of Lombard, Lori, Sharon (Donald) Kast of Villa Park, Lisa (Ronald) Kast of Lombard and Brian Ruben (Kimberly) of Villa Park; grandmother of nine; and sister of Speedy, Junior, Jewel, Ellis, Wilma, Bobby, Joanne, Retia and Jerry. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ruben G.

Mrs. Salazar was a resident of Lombard for 36 years.

George Arno

George L. Arno, 86, of rural Sterling, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007 in Sterling.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 28, at Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, Oregon, Ill. Graveside services with military honors were held Tuesday, Jan. 30, at Riverview Cemetery in Oregon.

Mr. Arno was the husband of Helen; father of Robert, Kenneth and Cheryl Ann Rose; grandfather of three; great-grandfather of three; and brother of Edgar Wyland. He was preceded in death by his son, George Joseph; and two sisters.

Mr. Arno moved to the Sterling/Rock Falls area from Lombard in 1998. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II, and had worked as a sheet metal worker with Local #265 in DuPage County for 37 years retiring in 1986.

Mr. Arno was a lifetime member of Rock Falls VFW Post #5418, and had been an avid beekeeper for 70 years.

Phyllis Cantua

Phyllis A. Cantua, nee Rolla, 74, of Lombard, died Monday, Jan. 22, 2007 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 25, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lombard. Interment was at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.

Mrs. Cantua was the wife of Donald M.; mother of Lynn Markowski, Kim (Joe) Kaye, Kelly (John) Capparelli, Brian of Lombard and Brent of Lombard; grandmother of seven; great-grandmother of one; and sister of Loretta, Michael (Barb), Elona, Stephen (Diane) and Marion. She was preceded in death by her brother, John.

Mrs. Cantua was a faithful member of Christ the King Church for 38 years. She enjoyed bowling and puzzles, being with her friends, was devoted to her children and grandchildren, and was known for being very personable and friendly.

Memorials to the American Heart Association, Greater Midwest Affiliate, 3816 Paysphere Circle, Chicago, Il 60674, would be appreciated.

Elaine coats

Elaine M. Coats, nee Baca-Kramer, 83, of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007 in Lake Havasu City.

Mrs. Coats was the mother of Holly (Steven Whitman} Coats, Philip M. (Danielle) and Dawn (Paul) Kosuth; mother-in-law of Tracy Coats; aunt of four; sister-in-law of Thomas Gallagher; grandmother of nine; and friend of many. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Baca and Maryanne Baca-Kramer, and Frederick Dale Cramer; husband, Philip M.; and sister, Geraldine Gallagher.

Mrs. Coats was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Church, collected teddy bears, and was known for her kindness and being the world's best hugger.

No services are planned, but thoughts and condolences may be submitted to the family at www.lietz-frazefuneralhome.com.

Arrangements were made by Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home and Crematory.

Ronald David

Ronald W. David, 76, of Lombard, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2007 at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital in Elmhurst.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 28, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Graveside services were held Monday, Jan. 29, at Green lawn Cemetery, Green town, Ind., with Solomon David officiating.

Mr. David was the cousin of John (Pamela) David and Dwight (Helen) David. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; and parents, Warren and Phyllis.

Mr. David was a resident of Lombard for 42 years. He was born in Marion, Ind., and graduated from Sweetser High School in 1949. After graduation, his family moved to Grand Rapids, Mich. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air force during the Korean War era and had worked for many years in commercial art and engraving plates for printing businesses in the Chicago area.

From August 1998 until June 2006 Mr. David worked as a laboratory scientist at Glenbard East High School in Lombard, where he made many friends and loved talking to the students. He was very fond of his neighbors, friends and dog Frisky.

Memorials to Partnership for Educational Progress, 597 Crescent Blvd., Glen Ellyn, IL 60137, for the Glenbard East High School Science Department, would be appreciated.

Jeanette Daniele

Jeanette M. Danielle, nee Marinucci, 93, of Lombard, formerly of Bellwood, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007 at Lexington Healthcare Center in Lombard.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 29, from Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, to Mass at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Lombard, with the Rev. John Guiney officiating. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Mausoleum in Hillside.

Mrs. Daniele was the mother of Arlene (the late James) Gasparro, Marilyn (William) Armonda and Maria (Raymond) Fries; grandmother of eight: great-grandmother of 14; sister-in-law of Margaret (the late Joseph) Iosso and Carmella (Michael) Sylvestsro; and aunt of many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony; siblings, Tony (Violet) Marinucci, Philomena (the late Joseph) Tiberio, Anna (the late Salvatore) Letteri, Peter (the late Beatrice), John (the late Violet) and Dominic (the late Mary) Marinucci; and brother-in-law, Frank (the late Amelia) Daniello.

Mrs. Daniele was a homemaker.

Memorials to Children's Memorial Hospital Foundation, 2300 Children's Memorial Plaza, Box 4, Chicago, Il 60614, would be appreciated.
