Reginald E. 'Rex' Martin
Reginald E. "Rex" Martin, 77, a lifelong resident of Naperville, died Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at Tabor Hills Healthcare Center in Naperville. He was born Oct. 30, 1926, in Naperville.
Mr. Martin was a member of Euclid Lodge 65 of AF&AM and the Order of Eastern Star Althea Chapter 206, past Worthy Patron. He was a member and past commander of Naperville American Legion Post 43 and served his country with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Chicago Civil War Round Table and a member of the DuPage County Farm Bureau for 13 years. He was a retired commander, Civil Division, of the DuPage County Sheriff's Department, with 17 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, Hesper (Tunell) Martin; two daughters, Martha (husband Paul) Meyers of Fort Collins, Colo., and Carol Ann (husband Phil) Nathe of Naperville; a son, Thomas (wife Kerry) Martin of Sparta, Wis.; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Sarah Martin of Naperville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel E. and Sarah (Paeth) Martin.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 24, at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 516 S. Washington St., Naperville.
Interment will follow at Clarendon Hills cemetery, Darien.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 23, at the funeral home.

Samuel G. Malleos
Samuel Gerhardt Malleos, infant son of Nicholas and Rhonda Malleos of Bolingbrook, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, at Edward Hospital in Naperville.
In addition to his parents, Samuel is survived by a brother, James Andrew, and a sister, Rachael Lynne, both of Bolingbrook; his maternal grandparents, Terry and Ruth L. Cullison of Lynwood; paternal grandparents, Larry P. and Jane I. Gerhardt of Decatur and Thomas Malleos of Decatur; and maternal great-grandparents Helen D. Gillard of Lynwood and Andrew R. and Doris Cullison of Bloomington.
A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 1550 Modaff Road, Naperville, with the Rev. Terry McReynolds officiating.
Interment will take place at Naperville cemetery.

Larry A. Burnette
Larry A. Burnette, 59, of Naperville died Monday, Sept. 17, 2001, at Edward Hospital in Naperville. He was born May 10, 1942, in Chicago.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was a dispatcher in the trucking industry.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy (Sacher); siblings, Sally Kallans, Shirley Waring, Lorraine (husband Fred) Poradyla, Charlotte (husband Ron) Miller, Dennis (wife Mary), Janice (husband Mike) Rice and Randy; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation took place Thursday, Sept. 20, at Modell Funeral Home, 7710 S. Cass Ave., Darien, where a service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 21. Deacon Joel Chrastka will officiate.
Interment will be at Clarendon Hills cemetery in Darien.
Nathaniel K. Poole
Nathaniel Kendall Poole, 70, of Naperville and formerly of Bolingbrook, died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2001, at home. He was born Nov. 9, 1930, in Worcester, Mass.
He grew up in New England and was a graduate of Haverford Prep School in Haverford, Pa. He was awarded all-conference honors in baseball. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, stationed in Tripoli, Libya and Munich, Germany. Upon returning from the war, he settled in Chicago. Employed in the trucking industry for Material Service and Transport Service Co., he was a member of the Million Mile Club and enjoyed his position as a driver trainer. He retired in 1990. He also served as one of the original volunteer firefighters for the Bolingbrook Fire Department in the early 1960s. He was an avid collector of sports memorabilia. He was a die-hard Cubs fan. He also enjoyed giving of himself to others.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Dorothy (Lewandowski) Poole; children, Cheryl (husband James) Bonk, Susan (husband Kevin) Petschow, Christine (USAF Major Joseph) Gootee and Kendall (husband Randall) Alderks; 11 grandchildren, Kiley, James Joseph III, and Keaton Bonk, Madeline and Tristan Petschow, Meghan, Sydney and Alaina Gootee, and Adelaide, Hannah and Olivia Alderks; and godchildren, James J. Bonk III, Jeanna Falduto and Michael Lewandowski.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willard Cleveland Poole Jr. and Harriet S. (Kendall) Brown; and a brother, Willard Cleveland Poole III.
Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville. A funeral Mass will take place at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at SS Peter and Paul Church, 36 N. Ellsworth St., Naperville.
Interment will be at SS Peter and Paul cemetery in Naperville.

Ann M. Geriba
Ann M. Geriba, 85, of Naperville died Monday, Oct. 1, 2001, at the Tabor Hills Nursing Facility in Naperville. She was born Jan. 23, 1916, in Chicago and was a Cicero resident most of her life. She had been a resident of Independence Village prior to moving to Tabor Hills.
She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Cicero.
She is survived by a niece, Janet (husband David) Corum of Lafayette, Ind.; a nephew, James (wife Kathy) Frish Sr. of Naperville; two great-nieces, Amie (husband Josh) Gerig of Greenwood, Ind., and Nancie Corum of Lafayette, Ind.; and two great-nephews, James Frish Jr. and Todd Frish, both of Naperville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Anele(Silkunas) Geriba; a brother, Joseph; and a sister, Bernice (husband Ben) Frish.
Visitation will take place from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 117 W. Van Buren Ave., Naperville, followed by a chapel service and interment at St. Casmir cemetery, 4401 W. 111th St., Chicago.

Mildred Douglas
Mildred (Sperry) Douglas, 86, of Warrenville died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at Edward Hospital in Naperville. She was born Aug. 14, 1915, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
In Sarasota, Fla., where her family had relocated, "Little Mildred Sperry" made her professional debut at Edwards Theater when she was 12. For two days she played during the intermission of the "Our Gang" comedies.
The next year, the Sperrys moved north. After graduating from Lake View High School, she won a scholarship in a piano competition at Mundelein College.She performed professionally throughout the Chicago area.
While employed by the Immigration and Naturalization Service at the onset of World War II, she met Edwin L. Douglas, whom she married
Jan. 20, 1943. A stay-at-home mother, she taught lessons and music appreciation to hundreds of students. She played the organ at St. Irene Church in Warrenville and was the accompanist for the Warrenville School of the Dance.
She was a former president of the DuPage County Republican Women's Association, a former Girl Scout troop leader in Warrenville and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She is survived by her husband, Edwin L. Douglas, retired DuPage County Circuit Court Judge; four daughters, Marion (husband Mike) Douglas-Hempel of Naperville, Diane (husband Tom) Lord of Naperville, Jean (husband Ray) Stoia of Urbana and Dorothy Douglas of Glen Ellyn; eight grandchildren, Erik (wife Jeannie) and Chris Long, Doug Conway, Ryan and Jenna Stoia and Ben, Joe and Katie Cole; and two great-grandchildren, Amanda and Alex Long.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Myrtle (Willett) Sperry; a grandson, Jay Stoia; and a sister, Mabel Birch.
Visitation took place Monday, Oct. 22, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home in Naperville. A Mass of Christian burial was Tuesday, Oct. 23, at St. Irene Catholic Church in Warrenville.
Interment took place at Assumption cemetery in Wheaton.

Bill Stath
Bill Stath, 57, of Naperville died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001, at Edward Hospital in Naperville. He was born July 24, 1944, in Chicago.
He had been a resident of Naperville for the past 20 years. He had worked in the restaurant industry and then in real estate for several different Naperville agencies. He enjoyed fishing and golf and was working as a golf ranger at Springbrook Golf Course in Naperville.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy (Cizek) Stath; three daughters, Kristen (husband Dann) Woodland of Munroe Falls, Ohio, Jayme (husband Mark) Wawers and Nikki Stath, both of Naperville; three grandchildren, Alex and Ryan Wawers of Naperville and Kyra Woodland of Munroe Falls; three sisters, Donna (husband Joseph) Roman of South Bend, Ind., Roxanna (husband Richard) Tanis of Matteson and Olga Casey of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ruth (Hancock), and a brother, James.

Else Balogh
Else (Kowalski) Balogh, 75, of Naperville and formerly of Aurora, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at her home. She was born June 26, 1926, in Derschlag, Germany.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Nick; two sons, Dr. Miklos Balogh and Thomas (wife Tammy) Balogh; a daughter, Evelyn (husband Angelo) Ferro; and two grandchildren, Cody and Riley Balogh.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Helmut Kowalski.
A memorial service will take place at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, at The Daleiden Lake Street Mortuary, 220 N. Lake St., Aurora.

Dylan Zachary Prior
Dylan Zachary Prior, 3 months and 26 days old, son of Simon C. and Amy R. (Flores) Prior of Aurora, died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001, at University of Chicago Hospital. He was born May 30, 2001, at Edward Hospital in Naperville.
He was baptized June 2, 2001. He lived with a condition called hypoplastic left heart syndrome.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his siblings, Jack, Hannah, Liam and Chloe Prior of Aurora; his paternal grandparents, Syd and Joan Warren of Nottingham, England; his maternal grandparents, Andy and Kathy Flores of Lockport; his great-grandmother, Ellen Flores of California; aunts and uncles, Kim (husband Jeff) O'Connor of Warrenville, Tim (wife Andrea) Flores of Willowbrook, Sandy (husband Tim) Brough of Aylesbury, England, Rachel Prior of Nottingham, England, Stephen Prior of Saudi Arabia; and two cousins, Ruth and Laura Brough of Aylesbury, England.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, at Overman-Jones Funeral Home, 309 S. Joliet Road, Plainfield.
Family and friends will meet for a funeral service at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at St. John Lutheran Church, 2650 Plainfield Road, Joliet. The Rev. John C. Bradford will officiate.

Patricia E. Greenley
Patricia E. Greenley, 66, of Lake Lure, N.C., and Hilton Head, S.C., and formerly of Naperville, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001. She was born Sept. 30, 1935, in Bethlehem, Pa., to George Wagner and Grace O'Donnell.
She and her husband resided in Naperville from 1967 to 1997 before retiring to Hilton Head. While in Naperville, she was a homemaker, a member of Knox Presbyterian Church and active in bridge and bowling groups in the Cress Creek subdivision.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Alan Greenley; a daughter, Alison (husband Charley) Lloyd of Chapin, S.C.; a son, David Greenley of Columbia, S.C.; and a sister, Mary Wagner of Bethlehem, Pa. She would have been a grandmother in January.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
The immediate family held a private prayer service at Fairfield Mountains Chapel in Lake Lure.

Daniel Shanower
U.S. Navy Cmdr. Daniel Frederic Shanower, 40, of Naperville was killed Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, in the attack on the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. He was born Feb. 7, 1961, in Aurora.
He was a 1979 graduate of Naperville Central High School. He earned his bachelor's degree in political science in 1983 from Carroll College in Waukesha, Wis. In 1985, he went to Aviation Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Fla., where he was commissioned an ensign. He served with the Navy from 1985 to 1990 as an intelligence officer. He entered the Naval Reserves in 1990 and took a position as a foreign service officer with the U.S. State Department.
He returned to active duty in 1994, and reported to the Navy and Marine Corps Intelligence Training Command. His tours included several years in Japan and the Philippine Islands. In 1997, he was posted to San Diego where he served as an assistant intelligence officer for the U.S. Third Fleet aboard the USS Coronado. Two years later, he was transferred to Washington, D.C. At the time of his death he was responsible for providing intelligence information to senior naval officers at the Pentagon.
He was the author of several articles on military strength and readiness and "Freedom Isn't Free" in the March 1997 issue of Naval Institute Proceedings. He earned the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, two Navy Commendation Medals and the Navy Service Medal.
He is survived by his parents, Donald and Patricia (Gibbs) Shanower of Naperville; two sisters, Victoria (husband F. Edwin) Wike of Winnetka and Paula (husband Robert) Coleman of Willoughby Hills, Ohio; two brothers, Thomas (wife Ana) Shanower of Sidney, Mont., and Jonathan Shanower of Naperville; and eight nieces and nephews, Andrew and Elaine Coleman, Rachel, John and Molly Wike and Matthew, Nicholas and Stephanie Shanower.
A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at Community United Methodist Church, 20 N. Center St., Naperville.
Interment was held at 9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 1, at Arlington National cemetery in Arlington, Va., at which time the Purple Heart and Meritorious Service Award were granted posthumously.
