Charles C. Kelley Jr.

Charles Carlton Kelley Jr., 90, a longtime resident of Greenwich, Ohio, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at Windsong in Akron, Ohio. He was born Dec. 21, 1910, in New York City.

He attended Greenwich High School and Pace University. He was a World War II veteran who served as a medic in the U.S. Army Medical Corps in France. He was the retired treasurer of Riches Nelson Inc., a Greenwich import and export company.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy Jordan Kelley; a son, Donald Edmond (wife Becky) Kelley of Akron; a daughter, Karen Kelley (husband Jerry) Martin of Naperville; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Sr. and Catherine (Sniffin) Kelley.

A memorial service will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at Billow Fairlawn Chapel, 85 N. Miller Road, Akron. Burial will take place with military honors at The Ohio Western Reserve National cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Akron General Medical Center Development Fund, 400 Wabash, Akron, OH 44307.

Philip S. Bush

Philip S. Bush, 55, a resident of Naperville for more than 20 years, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001, while visiting family in Buffalo, N.Y.

After completing his doctorate degree in chemistry from Oklahoma State University, he began his career in 1977 with Chrysler Corp., where he was instrumental in the development of the catalytic converter. In 1981, he began working at Amoco Corp. as a specialist in emission control problems. His roles as staff scientist and then specialist of corporate studies, his leadership as chairman of three API work groups and as lobbyist and negotiator with federal and state agencies on fuel regulatory issues proved instrumental in formulating Environmental Protection Agency standards for vehicle fuels. He retired from BP Amoco in 1999. He enjoyed his retirement with independent consulting, gardening, a trip to Alaska and helping his friends and family with special projects. His relaxed demeanor made him a special friend to children of all ages.

He enjoyed skiing, swimming, snorkeling and underwater photography. Many of his nature photographs grace the homes of his loved ones. He had an appreciation for classic cars and figuring out how to fix them.

He is survived by his father, William M. Bush; two brothers, Robert (wife Delores) and Donald (wife Frances) Bush; a sister, Kathleen (husband Richard) Kimble; many nieces and nephews; and dear friends Jeanette and August Hirt.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Rhea Bush.

A funeral service was held Sept. 10 in Amherst, N.Y.

Yvonne C. Kieselburg

Yvonne C. (Meyer) Kieselburg, 74, a Naperville resident since 1998, died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001, at Community Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Naperville. She was born Jan. 6, 1927, in Elgin.

She was a former grade-school teacher and had been a resident of Rockford.

She is survived by a son, Mark (wife Diane) Kieselburg of Naperville; a daughter, Marcia (husband Gary) Ustica of Coos Bay, Ore.; four grandchildren, Kimberly and Melissa Kieselburg of Naperville and Tara and Danielle Ustica of Coos Bay; a sister, Barbara Kemerling of Elgin; and two nieces and two nephews.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. followed by a funeral service Friday, Oct. 5, at Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park.

Interment will be at Arlington cemetery in Rockford.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, PO Box 37243, Washington, DC 20013.

Chester John Winter

Chester John "Jack" Winter, 78, a longtime Downers Grove resident and former editor and publisher of Reporter/Progress Newspapers, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2001, at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. He was born May 14, 1923, at Hinsdale Hospital to Chester John and Henrietta Staats Winter.

A member of Downers Grove Community High School class of 1942, he attended Ripon College in Wisconsin for a short time before entering the U.S. Army during World War II. He studied at Princeton University as part of the U.S. Army Specialized Training Program, a fast-track officer training effort. As D-Day neared, the program was canceled and he was reassigned to serve as a combat medic with the 104th Infantry Division in Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns. His unit was preparing to shift to the Pacific theater of operations for a possible invasion of Japan when the U.S. dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He was honorably discharged in December 1945.

He returned to Ripon College after the war where he met Patricia Keeley. The two graduated and were married in 1950. That year, he joined the Winter family in the Downers Grove Reporter newspaper and printing business.

He was recalled to active duty during the Korean War and was commissioned a second lieutenant stationed at Fort Riley, Kan. His wife took his place at the Reporter. After his return, the couple expanded the business, eventually publishing newspapers in Westmont, Lisle, Darien, Warrenville and Naperville. They were part-owners for a time of the Naperville Clarion, which they sold in the early 1960s.

Two sons, Craig and Chris, joined their parents at the company in 1979 and together they built the business into Reporter/Progress Newspapers and Printers. The family sold the company to Liberty Suburban Chicago Newspapers in 2000.

He was one of the first executive directors of the Downers Grove Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Jaycees and Kiwanis clubs. He and his wife were recognized with the chamber's Person of the Year Award and served as honorary parade marshals in the July 4 parade during the early 1980s. He won numerous press association awards for his work and was nominated as the Illinois Press Association's Editor of the Year. He was on the original steering committee for Downers Grove's Total Community Development program. He was cited by Good Samaritan Hospital for his "positive influence in the community and his concern and love for people."

He and his wife were founding members of the DuPage Publishers Association. He was a member and director of Suburban Newspapers of America and he and his wife received the group's highest honor, the Dean S. Lesher Award, in 2000.

Visitation will take place from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, at Toon Funeral Home, 4920 Main St., Downers Grove.

A funeral service will take place at 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at First United Methodist Church of Downers Grove, 1032 Maple Ave.

Inurnment will be private.

Francis Fern Dutch

Francis Fern Dutch, 76, of Naperville died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, at Edward Hospital in Naperville. She was born Sept. 16, 1925, in California to Clyde and Lillian (Bagwell) Allen.

She was united in marriage in 1946 to Albert M. Dutch. She enjoyed being a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and spending time with her family.

She is survived by two children, Carol of Arizona and Diana (husband Robert) Koehler of Naperville; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Leslie (wife Millie) Allen of Oregon; and a sister, Marilyn.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parent; and a son, Albert Jr. on Oct. 6, 1979.

A private funeral service was held at Fairmont Willow Hills Memorial Park in Willow Springs.

Nelson Funeral Homes in Naperville handled arrangements.

The Rev. Roy Shervy

The Rev. Roy Shervy, 75, of Naperville died Friday, Oct. 26, 2001, at Edward Hospital in Naperville. He was born April 24, 1926, in Superior, Wis., and had been a resident of Naperville since 1963, moving here from Ashland, Neb.

He received his ministerial training at the Moody Bible Institute and graduated in 1951 and was ordained in the Congregational Christian Conference. He received a bachelor's degree from Taylor University in 1953 and a master's degree from Ball State University in 1957. He worked in the registrar's office of Moody Bible Institute from 1963 to 1982 and at Robert Morris College from 1982 to 1992. He was a former member of the Rotary #1 Club in Chicago and former member of the Lions Club in Farmland, Ind., and also in Spencer, Iowa. He was a member of the Naperville Stamp Club and the Christ Church of Oak Brook.

He served his country during World War II with the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946 in the European Theatre.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred (Kjemhus) Shervy of Naperville, whom he married in 1951; a son, Mark Alan (wife Betty) Shervy of Aurora; a daughter, Joyce D. (husband Jeffrey) Wilde of Lone Rock, Wis.; three grandchildren, Joshua Mark Shervy and Erik Michael and Bret Edward Wilde; a step-granddaughter, Christina Lane; a step-great-grandson, Alex; a sister, Lois (husband George Sr.) Boyer of Superior, Wis.; two sisters-in-law, Marian Shervy of Waukesha, Wis., and Ruth (husband Arnold) Roosa of West Chicago; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ingvald N. and Bertha (Moe) Shervy; and two brothers, Robert and Ingvald E. Shervy.

Visitation was held Monday, Oct. 29, at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home in Naperville.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, Oct. 30, at Christ Church of Oak Brook, 501 Oakbrook Road, Oak Brook, IL 60523, where memorials can be directed.

Interment will be at Woodlawn cemetery in Farmland.

Marcella Wolfe

Marcella (Dieter) Wolfe, 81, a lifelong resident of Naperville, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, at Edward Hospital in Naperville. She was born Sept. 10, 1920, in Naperville.

She was born at and lived most of her life on Benton Avenue in Naperville. She was a graduate of SS Peter and Paul Grade School and Naperville Community High School. She married her husband, Paul, on June 10, 1950. Throughout the years, she was employed as a secretary for Kroehler Manufacturing, Burlington Northern Railroad, Naperville Industrial Sales and the medical office of F. Emami, M.D., all in Naperville. She was a lifelong member of SS Peter and Paul Church. She was a former chairman of the church council and helped found and administer the church's Transitional Housing program. She enjoyed sewing and made her own clothes.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years; two children, Paul K. (wife Joan) Wolfe Jr. of Naperville and Mary (husband Dennis) Kalins of Downers Grove; three grandchildren, Paul Zachary Wolfe of Naperville, Russell W. Kalins of Bolingbrook and Kristina M. Kalins of Glenview; two sisters-in-law, Alice Dieter of Naperville and Dorothy Wehrli Dieter of South Carolina; two nephews and a niece.

She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Wolfe, in 1989; her parents, Albert and Elizabeth (Schultz) Dieter; and two brothers.

Visitation will take place from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville, where a funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, and proceed to an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at SS Peter and Paul Church, 36 N. Ellsworth St., Naperville.

Interment will be at SS Peter and Paul cemetery in Naperville.

Patricia L. Barranco

Patricia L. (Alles) Barranco, 61, of Lisle died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, at home. She was born May 2, 1940, in Greeley, Colo.

She was a homemaker and a member of St. Margaret Mary Church in Naperville.

She is survived by her husband, William S. Barranco; four children, Joseph (wife Aimee), Michael and Anthony Barranco and Jenee (husband Joseph) Parrish; four grandchildren, Samuel, Taylor, Zachary and Ryan; hermother, Martha Alles; three siblings, Martha Ann (husband Gene) Longwith, Victor (wife Renee) Alles and Gerald (wife Patricia) Alles; a brother-in law, John (wife Joan), and a sister-in-law, Marlene (husband Jim) Schurr; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, at BlakeLamb Funeral Home, Route 53 and Short Street, Lisle.

A funeral service will begin at 9:15 a.m. Monday, Oct. 15, at the funeral home and proceed at 10 a.m. to a Mass of Christian burial at St. Margaret Mary Church, 1450 Green Trails Drive, Naperville.

Interment will be at Queen of Heaven Mausoleum in Hillside.

Carol J. McGrath

Carol J. McGrath, 59, of Naperville died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001, at her home. She was born Jan. 29, 1942, in Chicago.

She received her bachelor's degree in education from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1963 and she taught in Skokie for three years. She worked as a secretary at Naperville Central High School for 15 years and for the Boy Scouts of America for five years. She was a member of the Alpha Omega Pi sorority at Wesleyan, an active member of the Naperville Evening Kiwanis Club and a member of the DuPage Drifter Camping Club for 20 years. She belonged to several bridge groups and book groups. She was a 20-year member of Wesley United Methodist Church and most recently became a member of Knox Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Debbie (husband Bill) Canady of Streamwood; a son, Brian (wife Jill) Crum of Streamwood; two grandchildren, Sarah and Hannah Canady; and two brothers, her twin, Bill (wife Bonnie) McGrath of West Linn, Ore., and Jack (wife Bette) McGrath of Crystal Lake.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Frances (Davison) McGrath.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, at the Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 117 W. Van Buren Ave., Naperville.

A funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, at Knox Presbyterian Church, 1105 Catalpa Lane, Naperville, with the Rev. Clinton Roberts officiating.

Interment will be private.

David C. Wright Sr.

David Clarence Wright Sr., 73, of Naperville died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001, at his home. He was born Aug. 13, 1928, on a farm near Princeton, Ky.

Following graduation from Cobb High School, he spent two years in stateside military training units. Upon his discharge, he worked for various veterans hospitals in Kentucky and Indiana. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in business from Indiana University and a master's degree in economics from the University of Pittsburgh. He also graduated from the Northwestern Executive Development Program. His first job out of college was as an analyst for U.S. Steel's Commercial Research Division in Pittsburgh, and he was also an assistant manager of U.S. Steel's Commercial Research Division in Birmingham, Ala. Later, he became the assistant director of marketing development for the United Delco Division of General Motors in Detroit. He left GM to become the director of marketing research for U.S. Gypsum (now USG) in Chicago. He became vice president of corporate development for USG in charge of planning and acquisition.

He left USG with a friend and fellow vice president to buy the faucet and valve division of Rockwell International with plants in West Virginia and Arkansas. After reviving the organization, he sold it to the Kohler Co. of Kohler, Wis. He was the former director and co-owner of Sterling Faucet Co., former director of Union Special Corp., a former member of the Economic Council of the Chicago Federal Reserve Board, a former member of the Economic Council of National Association of Homebuilders, a former co-owner and chief executive officer of Expert Corp., a former council member at Strategic Planning Institute, a former member of the committee that financed and built the Naperville Humane Society Shelter, a former member of the Naperville Riverwalk Commission and a National Life member of the National Garden Clubs.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann (Corsino) Wright of Naperville; three sons, David C. (wife Patricia) Wright of Dallas, Pa., Robert A. (wife Patricia Westercamp) Wright of Mount Vernon, Iowa, and Jeffery L. (wife Janyce) Wright of Batavia; two grandchildren, Colin James Wright of Batavia and Dominic Dempsey Wright of Dallas, Pa.; a brother, Dempsey (wife Elizabeth) Wright of Nashville, Tenn.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, David Clarence and Martha Mae (French) Wright Hart, and his stepfather, HiceHart.

Visitation will take place from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 117 W. Van Buren Ave., Naperville.

A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 1, at the funeral home.

Interment will be private.
