Mary A. Becker

Mary A. (Hlavach) Becker, 81, of Naperville and formerly of Steger, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, in Naperville. She was born March 7, 1920, in Czechoslovakia.

She is survived by two sons, Michael (wife Judy) Becker of Naperville and David Becker, also of Naperville; three grandchildren, Michael, Andrew and Jackie; two sisters, Margie (husband Jack) Pavasich of Glenwood and Anne (husband Albert) Napoli of Chicago Heights; and three brothers, Paul Hlavach of Chicago Heights, Robert (wife Diane) Hlavach of Monee and Albert (wife Betty) Hlavach of Beecher.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert Becker, in 1995.

Visitation will take place from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, at Steger Memorial Chapel, 3045 Chicago Road, Steger, where a funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 15.

Interment will be at Skyline Memorial Park in Monee.

Vicente C. Sanchez

Vincente C. Sanchez, 83, a resident of Wheaton since 1985, died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2001, at the Meadowbrook Manor in Naperville.

He is survived by his son, Vincent (wife Gina) Sanchez; three grandchildren, Vincent (wife Janelle), Robert (wife Jennifer) and Kristen Sanchez; three great-grandchildren, Samantha, Anthony and Jason; and a brother, Luis (wife Delia) Sanchez.

Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at Williams-Kampp Funeral Home, 430 E. Roosevelt Road, Wheaton, where a funeral service will begin with prayers at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, and proceed to a 1 p.m. Mass of Christian burial at St. Michael Church, West and Illinois streets, Wheaton.

Interment will follow at St. Michael cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to Windows of Hope, Family Relief Fund, c/o David Berdon & Co., 415 Madison Ave., New York, NY 10017.

Joyce Carole Ahrens

Joyce Carole Ahrens, 64, of Naperville died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2001, at home. She was born July 22, 1937, in Berwyn.

She worked for several years in the accounts receivable department of Hotel Employees/Restaurant Employees International Union in Naperville. She was a member of Naperville Congregational Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Brenda Brummel of Batavia; two granddaughters, Lindsey and Samantha, both of Batavia; and her mother, Mildred Petrik of Lisle.

She was preceded in death by a son, Steven, and her father, Clarence Petrik.

Visitation will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home 117 W. Van Buren Ave., Naperville.

A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.The Rev. Michael Donohue will officiate.

Interment will be private.

Memorials in her name may be directed to the American Cancer Society, 999 N. Main St., Glen Ellyn, IL 60137.

James R. Effner Sr.

James R. Effner Sr., 70, of Glen Ellyn died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. He had been a resident of Glen Ellyn for three years, a resident of Lombard from 1968 to 1998 and a resident of Aurora from 1952 to 1968.

He served in the U.S. Navy Reserve from 1950 to 1958. He was married Aug. 17, 1952. He retired Jan. 1, 2000, after 35 years as an agent for State Farm Insurance. He had worked as a funeral director for Healey Chapel in Aurora for 10 years. A 1949 graduate of Naperville High School and a graduate of Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Wheeling, he also attended North Central College in Naperville and the University of Illinois. He was a former president of the Aurora Jaycees, former president of the Glenbard East Athletic Boosters and a former president of the Manor Hill Homeowners Association. He also had been an elder and chairman of the Long Range Planning Committee at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lombard.

He is survived by his wife, Sally A. (Wolff) Effner; two daughters, Susan (husband James) Scruggs of Princeton and Mary (husband David) Kocourek of Naperville; three sons, Randall (wife Donna) Effner of Plainfield, Ind., Robert (wife Karen) Effner Sr. of Naperville and James R. (wife Lynn) Effner of Aurora; 14 grandchildren, Kevin, Shannon, Kelly, Lloyd, T.J., Jake, Kyle, Ryan, Bobby, Stephanie, Megan, Brittney, Briana, and Bryce; and many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Alma Effner.

Visitation will take place at 11:30 a.m. and a funeral service at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 215 S. Lincoln, Lombard. The Rev. Thomas Noll will officiate.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran School, 215 S. Lincoln, Lombard, IL 60148.

Troy M. Cline

Troy M. Cline, 64, of Naperville died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, in St. Petersburg, Fla. He was born June 15, 1937, in Holden, W.Va.

He was the owner of Naperville Chauffeuring and Naperville Auto Garage. He was well-known as the Halloween popcorn man and for the large Christmas display in Naperville. His greatest joy was his family.

He is survived by his wife, Glenna F. (Thompson) Cline of Naperville; three children, J. David (wife Catherine) Cline of Maple Park, Steven H. (wife Elizabeth) Cline of Naperville and Rhonda F. (husband Alan) Oberhelman of Naperville; five grandchildren, Joshua M., Jacqueline, Tori, Tyler and Luke; a brother, Frank A. (wife Donna) Cline of Bolingbrook; a sister, Delores F. Stamper of Danridge, Tenn.; and a stepsister, Cora Lee (husband Homer) Stamper of Ripley, W.Va.

Visitation will take place from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.

A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at Evangelical Free Church of Naperville, 1551 Hobson Road. The Rev. Robert Pritchard, his lifelong friend, will officiate.

Interment will take place at Naperville cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Spring Valley Christian School, 4676 W. 11th St., Cleveland, OH 44109.

Ann M. Dyer

Ann M. Dyer, 80, a resident of Naperville for the past 13 years, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001, at Edward Hospital in Naperville. She was born June 26, 1921, in Chicago.

She worked for many years as an administrative assistant for Joslyn Manufacturing Co. in Chicago. She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Naperville.

She is survived by four children, James M. (wife Sandra) Dyer of Northbrook, Jeanne (husband Thomas) Jakubowski of Naperville, Maureen (husband Donald) Scalia of St. Charles and Andrea Dyer of Wheaton; a brother, Philip (wife Kay) Raleigh of Naperville; a sister-in-law, Sue Dyer of Downey, Calif.; six grandchildren, Heather and Amy Dyer, Lauren and Marta Jakubowski, and Sarah and Jessica Scalia; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Philip and Anne (Fogarty) Raleigh, and her husband, James P. Dyer.

Visitation will take place from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 21, at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 117 W. Van Buren Ave., Naperville.

Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22, at the funeral home and proceed to a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 1500 Brookdale Road, Naperville.

Interment will take place at Queen of Heaven cemetery in Hillside.

Memorials may be directed to the American Lung Association, 1749 S. Naperville Road, Suite 202, Wheaton, IL 60187.

Ruth A. Herbert

Ruth A. (Hageman) Herbert, 90, a lifelong resident of Naperville, died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2001, at Edward Hospital in Naperville. She was born April 8, 1911, in Naperville.

She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church of Naperville and a member of the Ladies of the Moose in Naperville for more than 50 years. She retired from Kroehler Manufacturing Co. in 1978 after serving as a part-time office clerk. She attended Naper Grade School and graduated from Naperville High School in 1929. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening and sitting on her porch while listening to Cubs games.

She is survived by four children, Grace Herbert of Naperville, Georgene Van Schmus of San Marcos, Calif., Jean (husband Walter) Jones of Sun City West, Ariz., and Betty (husband Joe) Valente of Granville, Ohio; four stepchildren, Carol Atkinson of Warrenville, Bob (wife Mary) Herbert of Richland Center, Wis., Audra (husband Mike) Wehrli of Naperville and Doris Carlin of Warrenville; six grandchildren, Ehren, Andrea and Alyssa Van Schmus and Lisa, Jonathon and Brandon Valente; 19 step-grandchildren; numerous step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Virginia Seetin of Naperville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Herbert; a brother, George Hageman; and a sister, Grace Hageman.

Visitation will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and a funeral service will begin at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.

Interment will be at SS Peter and Paul cemetery in Naperville.

William R. Mitchell

William Robert Mitchell, 72, a resident of Naperville and former resident of Benton, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at Manor Care Nursing Home in Naperville. He was born Nov. 13, 1928, in Benton.

He married Virginia Cena on March 14, 1953. He was a retired former federal coal mine inspector. From 1966 to 1970 he was a member of the Benton Mine Rescue Team. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, serving aboard the USS Essex. He was a member and past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2671 in Benton and a member of American Legion Post 280 in Benton. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Benton and Benton Masonic Lodge 64.

He is survived by three children, Karen Sue Mitchell of Waterloo, Iowa, and Gina (husband Frank) Gramarosso and Mike (wife Maureen) Mitchell, both of Naperville; and three grandchildren, Madeline Elizabeth and Mollie Nicole Mitchell, and Virginia Marie Gramarosso.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Andy and Esther (Rice) Mitchell; his wife, Virginia, on July 9, 1999; an infant daughter, Matilda Ann; two brothers, Carl and Gene Mitchell; and a sister, Betty Tasky.

Visitation will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, at Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St., Benton.

Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jack Wolfe officiating.

Burial with military rites will take place at Masonic and Odd Fellows cemetery in Benton.

Kevin Hiltenbrand

Kevin Tyler Hiltenbrand, 24, of Denver and formerly of LaGrange, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2001, in an airplane crash outside of Durango, Colo.

He was a 1996 honor roll graduate of Lyons Township High School in LaGrange. He was a gold-medal recipient for the State of Illinois Technical Skills Competition Award for aviation. He graduated in May 2000 with a bachelor's degree in aviation from Lewis University in Romeoville.

While attending college, he earned his pilot's license to fly single-engine, commercial and multi-engine aircraft. His credentials included airframe and power plant maintenance certifications. He spent his summers during college in Seattle, where he received his instrumentation ratings and license to fly and mechanically maintain seaplanes at Northwest Seaplanes. He also flew banner planes for Ariel Ads of Panama City, Fla, in 1999. At the time of his death, he was flying for Key Lime Air of Denver, transporting freight from Denver to Durango.

He is survived by his mother, Lynnette Hirsch of Willow Springs; his father, Richard Hiltenbrand of Denver and formerly of Naperville; a sister, Tracie Ann (husband Terry) Smith of Plainfield; two nieces, Paige and Kaylee Smith; his grandparents, Brenton and Jane Hirsch of Oswego, Donna Teske-Cameron of El Cajon, Calif., and Vivian Levee of Naperville; and aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Albert and Evelyn Hiltenbrand; and a cousin, Matthew Palmatier.

Visitation will take place from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, at Hallowell and James Funeral home, 1025 W. 55th St., Countryside.

A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, at First Congregational Church of LaGrange, LaGrange Road and Cossit Avenue. Use chapel entrance one block east at 100 S. Sixth Ave.

Immediately following the service, the family and friends will celebrate Kevin's life at Hangar One at Lewis University Airport.

Sister Rose Kohlmann

Sister Rose Kohlmann, 94, of Naperville and formerly of Warrenville and Chicago, died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2001, at St. Patrick's Residence in Naperville. She was born May 9, 1907, in Racine, Wis.

She entered the Cenacle Sisters on Feb. 25, 1929, in Chicago. She went to Ronkonkoma, N.Y., for her religious formation and served for more than 73 years in Cenacles throughout the United States.

She is survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visitation will take place from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at St. Patrick's Residence, 1400 Brookdale Road, Naperville. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's.

Interment will be at Queen of Heaven cemetery in Hillside.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Cenacle Retreat House, P.O. Box 797, Warrenville, IL 60555.

Russell C. Harri

Russell C. Harri, 66, a longtime resident of Kearsarge, Mich., died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2001, after a long illness at Edward Hospital in Naperville. He was born Dec. 18, 1934, in Allouez, Mich.

He worked as a carpenter and mason for most of his adult life before moving to Naperville to be with his daughter and family. He was an avid fisherman of Lake Superior.

He is survived by his wife, Noreen (Stukel) of Naperville; a daughter, Cheryl (husband Jonathan) Krug of Naperville; a son, Keith (wife Melissa) Harri of Morris; five grandchildren, Kristina and Daniel Krug of Naperville, Nathan Krug of Watertown, S.D., and Christopher and Nickolas Harri of Morris; three sisters, Myrna (husband David) Oja of Madison Heights, Mich., Priscilla (husband Kurt) Boginski of Northville, Mich., and Darlene (husband Tom) Buck of Marquette, Mich; and a brother, Neil (wife Susan) Harri of Eagle Harbor, Mich.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nina (Mannisto) and Norman Harri; and five brothers, Ronald, Elwood, Howard, Chester and Gordon.

Visitation will take place from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville, where a funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26.

The body will be cremated and the ashes spread in Lake Superior at a later date.
