Charles S. Wagner
Charles S. "Charlie" Wagner, 95, a resident of Naperville since 1998 and former resident of Chicago, died Sunday, July 21, 2002, at Tabor Hills Healthcare Center in Naperville. He was born Jan. 1, 1907, in Chicago.
He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Chicago for 90 years. He lived in the Hyde Park area for most of his life before coming to Naperville. He graduated in 1921 from St. Thomas the Apostle School in Chicago. He retired from the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago as a security guard in 1976 after 13 years of service.
He is survived by a sister, Helen M. Wagner of Hometown; a niece, Mary Ellen (husband Donald) White of Naperville; many nieces and nephews; and numerous great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Minnie (Ward) Wagner; and five siblings, Lee, Margaret, Edgar, Sister Monica and John Wagner.
Visitation will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 5472 Kimbark Ave., Chicago, followed by an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at the church.
Interment will be at Holy Sepulchre cemetery in Worth.

Harry W. Kuhn
Harry W. Kuhn, 80, of St. Charles died Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at home. He was born Jan. 4, 1922, in Wheaton.
He was born to German agrarian parents, Frank and Gertrude Kuhn, on their farm on Blanchard Road in Wheaton. He later farmed a piece of land leased from Dan Rice. In 1945, he married
Betty Joyce Murdoch.
On June 3, 1950, he started his company, Harry W. Kuhn Inc., with one concrete mixing truck. With only eight years of formal education, he grew the company to its present status as an Illinois Department of Transportation award-winner for the past 15 to 20 years.
He is survived by a son, Ronald J. Kuhn; two grandchildren, Stephen and Kerri; and four siblings, Marge (husband Frank) Wohead, Beatrice, Everett (wife Helen) and Vin (wife Patricia).
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will take place from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, at Yurs-Wittenberg Funeral Home, 1771 W. State St., Geneva.
A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at St. Francis High School Cultural Arts Center, 2130 W. Roosevelt Road, Wheaton.
Burial will be at St. Michael cemetery in Wheaton.

Anna Marie Benac
Anna Marie Benac, 88, of Centerville, Iowa, and formerly of Davenport, Iowa, died Saturday, July 27, 2002, at Covenant Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. She was born Oct. 24, 1913, in Centerville.
She married
Lawrence G. Benac on March 4, 1933, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville. She enjoyed playing bingo and cards, socializing and spending time with family, friends and relatives.
She is survived by three sons, Lawrence (wife Phyllis) Benac of Naperville, Joseph (wife Louise) Benac of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Robert (wife Jeanie) Benac of Houston; a daughter, Mary (husband John) Staniger of Cedar Falls, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Feb. 3, 1995; her parents, Joe and Stella (Kopatich) Shubat; a brother; and a sister.
A Mass of resurrection will take place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville. The Rev. Joe Miller will officiate.
Burial will take place at Oakland cemetery in Centerville.
Visitation took place Tuesday, July 30, at Thomas Lange Funeral Home in Centerville.

Late word has been received regarding the death of Christopher Paul Prebys, 40, of Naperville on Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. He was born July 10, 1962, in South Bend, Ind.
He is survived by his wife, Gretchen M. (Froehlke) Prebys of Naperville.

Robert L. Rahder
Robert L. "Bob" Rahder, 78, died Monday, July 22, 2002, at his Naperville home. He was born Nov. 24, 1923, in Denver.
He was retired from Amoco Corp. after a 30-year career in publications.
He flew B-25s during World War II and owned a flying school immediately after the war. He graduated from Colorado University and was working as a radio newsman in Casper, Wyo., when he started with Standard Oil in Salt Creek Field on the edge of the legendary Tea Pot Dome.
After many transfers to different locations, he was sent to the Chicago area and came to Naperville in 1962 to become the editor of Amoco's SpaN magazine.
He will best be remembered for taking anyone who was willing to go on a torturous hike in Colorado every summer. Sometimes 10 or 12 friends and children would make a backpack trek to inaccessible places to fish, freeze and starve, and then, for the rest of the year, they talked about what fun it had been.
He loved good wine, jazz, bridge and the Democratic Party.
He is survived by his wife, Irene Rahder of Naperville; a son, Karl, of Victoria, Canada; a daughter, Lisa, of Chicago; a son, Max (wife Debra) of Madison, Wis.; two grandchildren, Sam and Joe of Madison; and by all the young people who lived with and grew up at the Rahder's home over the past 40 years.
A private memorial service will be held in Grand Lake, Colo.
Amy M. Fugett
Amy Marlene (Garver) Fugett of Aurora died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, at Rush-Copley Memorial Hospital in Aurora. She was born in Chicago.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother.
She is survived by four children, Dan Fugett of Murrieta, Calif., David (wife Kathy) Fugett of Mokena, Amy O'Brien of Aurora and Dana Fugett of Aurora; seven grandchildren; a sister, Jeanine (husband David) Baron of Largo, Fla.; a brother, Travis (wife Kathy) Garver of Palo Alto, Calif.; and a sister-in-law, Judie Garver of Lindenhurst.
She was preceded in death by her twin brother, Brinton Garver, and her parents, D. Travis and Amy Garver.
A funeral service will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m.
Interment will be private.

William O. Patton
William O. Patton, 73, of Montgomery died Saturday, July 27, 2002, at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora. He was born Feb. 15, 1929, in Green Bay, Wis.
He served in the U.S. Navy for 23 years, from 1945 until his retirement in 1968. He then worked at Maplebrook Elementary School in Naperville District 203 for 20 years, retiring in 1994. He served in the Korean War, the Vietnam War and in the Pacific during World War II. He was a member of and tended bar on weekends for many years for Judd Kendall Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3873 in Naperville, the VFW in Aurora, the Third Ward Club and the Phoenix Club in Aurora. He also was a member of Montgomery VFW Post 7452 and the Tiger Club. He belonged to the Fox Valley Park District, where he enjoyed walking and working out at the Eola Community Center and developed many friendships. He and his wife enjoyed the past nine years in their summer home at Woodhaven Lakes in Sublette, where he liked to walk and sit by the lake, enjoying the peacefulness with his dog Kristy.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Betty Lou Patton of Montgomery; four children, Julie Null of Oswego, Shari (husband Scott) Lange of Oswego, Ronald (wife Anita) Giese of Aurora and Robert (wife Robin) Giese of Oswego; seven grandchildren, Gary, Joseph and Austin Null, Christopher Lange, and Jonathan, Nicholas and Maxwell Giese; a brother, Patrick (wife Mary) Patton of Green Bay; two sisters, Mary Lou (husband Patrick) Landry of Brookfield, Wis., and Carol (husband James) Dobish of Bloomington, Minn.; his mother-in-law, Jennie Melchiori of Aurora; a brother-in-law, Robert (wife Mary Ann) Melchiori of Aurora; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Norbert and Eva (Bunker) Patton; two sisters, Cleo Giesler and Laverne Norman; a brother, John Patton; and his father-in-law, Peter Melchiori.
A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, at Healy Chapel, 332 W. Downer Place, Aurora. The Rev. Alex Merlo will officiate. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m.
Interment will take place at St. Pauls Lutheran cemetery in Aurora.

Robert J. Wyack
Robert J. Wyack, 60, a Naperville resident since 1972, died Monday, July 22, 2002, at Edward Hospital in Naperville. He was born April 26, 1942, in Chicago.
He was employed as a bus mechanic at Laidlaw Transportation. He had been a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Naperville for the past 30 years.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy (Doolin) Wyack of Naperville; two sisters, Joan (husband Bob) Borich of Panama City, Fla., and Lois (husband Jim) Kenney of Fullerton, Calif.; a brother, Edward Wyack of Skokie; and numerous nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward D. and Josephine (Lus) Wyack; and a sister-in-law, Sally Wyack.
Visitation will take place from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 25, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, July 26, at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 36 N. Ellsworth St., Naperville.
Interment will take place at SS Peter and Paul cemetery in Naperville.

Bernard C. Staffeldt
Bernard C. Staffeldt, 75, of Greenwich, Conn., died Thursday, May 23, 2002, at his home. He was born Oct. 16, 1926, in Aurora.
He was raised in Naperville and graduated from Naperville High School in 1944. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He moved to Greenwich in 1949. He worked as an advertising executive for the Chicago Sun-Times from 1949 to 1979. He was a Boy Scout leader in the 1960s for Troop 1 in Greenwich. He was a longtime member of the Representative Town Meeting from District 4 and served on the RTM Finance Committee. He was a life member and past commodore of the Byram Boat Club and a member of the Glenville Seniors and Sacred Heart Church.
He is survived by a daughter, Lynn Marie Staffeldt of Greenwich; two grandsons, Lee and Craig Staffeldt; two granddaughters, Melissa and Crystal Staffeldt; and a sister, Dolores Tatz of Naperville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Clara (Steffen) Staffeldt.
A Mass of Christian burial took place Saturday, May 25, at Sacred Heart Church.
Interment followed at St. Mary's cemetery in Greenwich.

Clarence A. Knoche
Clarence Albert Knoche, 86, a resident of Mount Vernon, died Thursday, May 16, 2002, at Jeffersonian Care Center in Mount Vernon. He was born Dec. 31, 1915, in Chicago.
He was a 1933 graduate of Austin High School in Chicago. His first job was with A.B. Dick Co. in Chicago. He moved to Naperville in 1945. He was president of the PTA, president of the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce and chairman of the Naperville Plan Commission, which instigated the original Street Plan for the city. He was treasurer of the Naperville YMCA Board. He served on many committees of Grace United Methodist Church and was head usher for 11 years. In 1978, he retired from Champion International in Chicago and moved to Brevard, N.C. He was president of the Brevard Chapter of AARP. He also joined the Brevard Music Center Association and was president for two years. He was a member of Brevard United Methodist Church and was on the board of trustees. In 1989, he moved to Mount Vernon, where he joined First United Methodist Church and served on the administrative board.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred (Olson) Knoche of Mount Vernon, whom he married
March 5, 1938, in Gary, Ind.; a son, Frederick (wife Mary) Knoche of Mount Vernon; a daughter, Donna Lee (husband David) Taylor of Chesterfield, Mo.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Hulda (Deetjen) Knoche; three sisters, Florence Given, Mabel Cordry and Evelyn Traywick; and a brother, Elmer Knoche.
A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, at First United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon. The Rev. Dr. Alan Rhein will officiate.
Interment will be at Elmwood Park cemetery in Elmwood Park at a later date.
