Theresa F. Burke
Theresa Frances Burke, 79, a California resident and former resident of the Naperville area, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002. She was born Oct. 16, 1922.
She worked as a clerk for J.I. Case Co. for 18 years and had been a member of Our Lady of Grace Church in Castro Valley, Calif.
She is survived by a son, Charles T. Burke; two daughters, Patricia Jane Heidt and Joanne Joseph; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, Larry Dieter; and three sisters, Dorothy Schuler, Mary Louise Dieter and Genevieve Kakacek.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at SS Peter and Paul Church, 36 N. Ellsworth St., Naperville.

Marcella A. Higgins
Marcella A. Higgins, 81, of Lisle and a former 26-year resident of Indianapolis, Ind., died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004, at Edward Hospital in Naperville after a long illness. She was born Jan. 16, 1923, in West Springfield, Mass.
She was stationed in Washington, D.C., during World War II. She was active in the Red Cross as a hospital volunteer. She was also very active with Meals on Wheels.
Survivors include her husband, William; four sons, David (wife Sherry) Higgins of Atlanta, Ga., Donald (wife Valerie) Higgins of Scottsdale, Ariz., Douglas (wife Patricia) Higgins of Naperville and Daniel (wife Bernadette) Higgins of Long Valley, N.J.; 10 grandchildren, Christopher, Cari, Mark (wife Heather), Theodore, Elizabeth, Matthew, Drew, Daniel and Samantha Higgins and Theresa (husband Peter) Sullivan; a great-grandson, Sean "Otis" Sullivan; a sister, Alma Smith of South Wick, Mass.; a brother, Raymond (wife Patricia) Gagne of Chico, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Bernice Gagne of Wilbraham, Mass.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur W. and Alma Gagne; and a brother, Arthur.
A memorial visitation will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville. A Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, at St. Joan of Arc Church, Kingston and Front streets, Lisle, with the Rev. Gerald Tivy officiating.
Inurnment will take place at Gates of Heaven cemetery in Springfield, Mass.

Dorothy J. Sorensen
Dorothy J. Sorensen, 75, of Wheaton and former resident of Broadview for 45 years, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, at Wynscape Healthcare Center in Wheaton. She was born Oct. 11, 1926, in Oak Park.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Harold Sorensen; two children, Mary of Wheaton and Don (wife Ginny) of Naperville; four grandchildren, Chrissy (husband John) Christopher, Mark, Sarah and Angela; a brother, Robert (wife Lynn) Benson of North Carolina; and a sister, Verna (husband Charles) Danegger of Arlington Heights.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Adelaine Benson.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. and a service will take place at noon Saturday, Oct. 12, at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton.
Interment will follow at Forest Home cemetery in Forest Park.

Helen L. Norris
Helen L. (Drendel) Norris, 83, of Columbus, Ohio, and a former resident of Naperville, died Friday, Jan. 3, 2003. She was born Dec. 31, 1919, in Naperville to Ralph Drendel and Coletta (Wehrli) Drendel.
She graduated from Naperville High School in 1937. She was a registered nurse, graduating from St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Aurora. She was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps Nursing Corps during World War II. She was active in Girl Scouts for 50 years.
On Oct. 5, 1943, she married
Rex O. Norris.
She is survived by four daughters, Shirlie Lake of Baltimore, Jeri Schmidt of Evanston, Patty Benninger of Worthington, Ohio, and Peggy Norris of Columbus; five grandchildren, Bradley Schmidt, In Shil Lake, Tyler Schmidt, Kristen Benninger and Tara Benninger; two brothers, Vincent Drendel and Martin Drendel; two sisters, Peggy Kames and Shirley Avery; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and a sister, Rosemary Cozzoni.
Service were held Monday, Jan. 6, in Columbus.
Teresa L. Pillatsch
Teresa Lynn Pillatsch, 43, of Calabasas Hills, Calif., and a former resident of Naperville, died Sunday, Feb. 2, in Los Angeles. She was born Dec. 14, 1959, in Peoria.
She was a 1978 graduate of Yorkville High School and a 1981 graduate of Aurora University. She was a certified public accountant and former partner with Sikich, Gardner and Co. Before moving to southern California in 1994, she was active in many local civic organizations, including the Naperville Chamber of Commerce. She worked most recently as the controller for Los Angeles' International Church of Christ and touched many lives sharing her faith in the Lord and encouraging others affected by ovarian cancer.
She is survived by her husband of 21 years, John B. Pillatsch; a son, John "Brad" Pillatsch Jr., and a daughter, Allison, both living at home; her parents, Richard and Sharon Haynes of Surprise, Ariz.; a sister, Cindy Haynes of Westchester; and a brother, Jason Haynes of Aliso Viejo, Calif.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Pillatsch Jr.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hesed House in Aurora, where she and her family often served those in need of food and shelter.
Raymond C. 'Bud' Palter
Raymond C. "Bud" Palter, 73, a resident of Naperville and former longtime resident of Summit, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield. He was born March 13, 1929, in Summit.
He was a retired former pipe fitter who worked throughout the Chicago area. He was a member of the Pipefitters Union Local 597 and a Mason at the Argo-Summit Lodge. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard in the 1950s.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth (Brown); four children, John (wife Paula) Palter, Theresa (husband David) Tapley, Sue (husband Stephen) Cash and Peggy (husband Samuel) Lim; three granddaughters, Margaret and Kathryn Cash, and Ruth Lim; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial Mass will take place at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, at Divine Infant Church, 1601 Newcastle Ave., Westchester.

John F. Fleming Sr.
John Francis Fleming Sr., 80, of Naperville died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002, at Edward Hospital in Naperville. He was born Dec. 18, 1921, in Chicago.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and had worked as a foreman for Link Belt Manufacturing Co. He was a devoted family man and a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Naperville.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Fleming; two daughters, Joan (husband Dennis) Kraska of South Bend, Ind., and Caron (husband Thomas) Tierney of Woodridge; two sons, Patrick (wife Deborah) Fleming of Naperville and John Jr. (wife Susan) Fleming of Plainfield; 12 grandchildren, Timothy, Ellen and Ann Kraska of South Bend, John III and Corey Fleming of Plainfield, Patrick Jr., Scott and Claire Fleming of Naperville, and Collin, Connor, Garrett and Maggie Tierney of Woodridge.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Thomas and Alfred Fleming.
A memorial visitation will take place from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 516 S. Washington St., Naperville.
A memorial Mass of Christian burial will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 1870 E. 87th St., Naperville.

Robert D. Johnston
Robert D. Johnston, 55, a resident of Clarendon Hills for 10 years, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, at Hinsdale Hospital. He was born Jan. 6, 1947, in Evanston.
He was an alumni of the University of Illinois at Chicago Circle Campus and received a master's degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He was a senior staff engineer at Ispat Inland, formerly Inland Steel Co., with the Environmental Affairs Department. He was a regulatory expert at Ispat Inland with more than 22 years of experience and was generally considered by his peers as one of the most knowledgeable and competent experts in the country on water issues confronting the steel industry. His career at Inland began as a water treatment plant engineer. As supervisor, he gained practical knowledge in operating a massive industrial water treatment and water recycling system. In 1989, he transferred to Environmental Affairs, where he applied this knowledge in dealing with state and federal water rules.
He served on the American Iron and Steel Industry Water Subcommittee, was a former chairman of the Indiana Manufacturing Association's Water Issues Committee and was a longtime member of the Indiana State Chamber of Commerce, from which he received the Environmental Excellence Award in 1997 for his work there. He was also serving on three Indiana Department of Environmental Management water-quality task groups.
His knowledge of water rules, environmental impacts and treatment technologies and his practical approach to dealings with complex regulatory issues won him the respect of his peers in other industries, the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the environmentalist community.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Mary Z. Johnston; three daughters, Laura Kate (fiance Daniel Paris) Johnston of Alabama, Christine Elizabeth (husband Edsel) Clark of Naperville and Ann Marie Johnston of Ohio, and Sydney; his mother, DeLores Johnston of St. Charles; two sisters, Pam (husband Jerry) Hanlon of Bartlett and Sue Johnston of St. Charles; and nine nieces and nephews, Michael, David, Jenny, Beth, David, Chris, Jessie, Rachael and Kenny.
He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Johnston.
Visitation will take place from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., Wheaton.
A funeral service will take place at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at the funeral home. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m.

Robert J. McCreary
Robert J. McCreary, 54, a resident of Wheaton and former resident of Downers Grove, died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, at his home. He was born April 27, 1948, in Oak Park.
He was a transportation executive for a bus company and contracted for the Regional Transportation Authority and Pace. He was a member of St. Joseph Church in Downers Grove.
He is survived by two sons, Mark Andrew McCreary and Brad Jason McCreary, both of Wheaton; three sisters, Patricia (husband Robert) Campbell of Plainfield, Joan (husband John) Baier of Clarendon Hills and Beverly (husband Richard) Boyett of Elgin; a brother, Bill (wife Judy) McCreary of Naperville; his mother-in-law, Albina Subach of Cicero; a sister-in-law, Cynthia Subach of Cicero; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lynn (Subach).
Visitation will take place from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at Toon Funeral Home, 4920 Main St., Downers Grove, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Church.
Interment will take place at St. Casimir cemetery in Chicago.

Janet E. Higgins
Janet E. (Pearson) Higgins, 74, of Naperville died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at Edward Hospital in Naperville. She was born Sept. 28, 1927, in Chicago.
She had been a member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church since she moved to Naperville in 1987. She enjoyed playing the piano. She and her husband, Leonard, also enjoyed fishing and entertaining friends at their cabin on Cass Lake in Minnesota.
She is survived by two sons, Richard (wife Linda) Stange of Gobles, Mich., and Steven Stange of Sauk Village; six stepchildren; two granddaughters, Christine Stange (husband Russ Rabianski) and Michelle Stange, all of Kendall, Mich.; two sisters, Bernadette Hanson of Woodstock and Charlene Felstrup of Naperville; numerous nieces and nephews; and three special friends she has had since business school, Iva, Miriam and Doris.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, George O. Stange; her second husband, Leonard E. Higgins; and her parents, Walter and Ruth Pearson.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.
Additional visitation will take place from 9:30 a.m. until the service at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at St. Timothy Lutheran Church, 1313 N. Mill St., Naperville. The Rev. Richard Johnson will officiate.
Interment will be private.

Gloria E. Hunter
Gloria E. (Battista) Hunter, 80, a resident of Naperville since 1975, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, at her home. She was born Jan. 10, 1922, in New York City.
She had been a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church since its inception. She had been employed by Marshall Field and Co. as an associate since 1975. She was an avid reader and served on the Cress Creek Condo Board since 1978.
She is survived by a daughter, Grace Tucker of Naperville; two stepsons, Jack and Robert (wife Nancy) Hunter of New York; three grandchildren, Marjorie (husband David) Hulsman and Matthew (wife Valerie) and Sarah Tucker; four great-grandchildren, Madison and Drew Hulsman and Maya and Luke Tucker; and three step-grandchildren, Nicole and Brent Hunter and Elise Mercado.
Visitation will take place from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.
