Ralph L. Findlay

Ralph L. Findlay, 79, of Bolingbrook and a former resident of the Naperville-Plainfield area for most of his life, died Friday, Oct. 4, at his home. He was born Sept. 10, 1923, in Wilmington.

He was employed by the Plainfield Grain Co. and later as a manager at Frontenac Elevator in Naperville. He retired from Siebert Trucking in Naperville. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mildred "Jean" (Leffers) Findlay; two sons, Vernon "Butch" (wife Rochelle) and Michael (wife Kim) Findlay; two daughters, Connie (husband Timothy) DeChant and Bonnie (husband Dennis) Dailey; two granddaughters, Christine Michael and Angela (husband Cory) DeChant; four grandsons, Scott, Shaun and Shane Dailey and Tyler Findlay; five-great-grandsons, Cole, Gage and Jared DeChant, and Jesse and Justin Michael; two step-grandchildren, Cody and Travis; two brothers, Raymond (wife Judy) and Vernon "Bunk" (wife Ada) Findlay; a sister, Bernice (husband William) Book; a brother-in-law, Leo Pope; a sister-in-law, Nadine Findlay; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Catherine (Becker) Findlay; five brothers, James, John, William, Joseph and Robert Findlay; a sister, Dorothy Pope; a niece; and three nephews.

Visitation will take place from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, at Overman-Jones Funeral Home, 309 Joliet Road, Plainfield.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, at the funeral home. The Rev. Don Drogos will officiate.

Interment will be at River Hills Memorial Park in Batavia.

Memorials may be directed to the family of Ralph Findlay.

Nancy K. Dibblee

Nancy Kathryn Dibblee, 66, of Sycamore and formerly of Geneva, died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002, at Delnor-Community Hospital in Geneva after a brief, courageous battle with cancer. She was born Sept. 1, 1936, in South Bend, Ind.

She grew up in Aurora and was a 1954 graduate of West Aurora High School, and attended the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts and Aurora University. In 1960, she married David A. Dibblee and lived in Geneva, where they raised three children. After moving to Sycamore in 1992, she continued to work at The Wooden Nail in Geneva. She and her husband remained active members of Evangelical Covenant Church of Batavia.

She is survived by her husband; three children, Seth (wife Susan) Dibblee of Naperville, Sarah (husband Eric) Cate of Lamar, Mo., and Amanda Dibblee of Batavia; eight grandchildren, Jon, Madelaine, Rebekah, Matthew, Charlotte, Samuel, Stephen and Naomi; her father, Sharon J. "Mike" De Haan; three brothers, Jim (wife Janie) De Haan of Fortuna, Calif., Fred De Haan of Kenosha, Wis., and Mike (wife Terry) De Haan of Middleton, Wis.; two brothers-in-law, Larry (wife Donna) Dibblee of Batavia and Harold (wife Florence) Dibblee of Phoenix; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Sarah (Jones) De Haan, in February 2001.

Visitation will take place from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, with closing prayer at 7:45 p.m., at Yurs Peterson Moss Funeral Home, 209 S. Batavia Ave., Batavia.

A memorial service will take place at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, at Evangelical Covenant Church of Batavia, 1314 Main St.

Interment will be at a later date at River Hills Memorial Park in Batavia.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 102454, Atlanta, GA 30368-2454.

Carroll H. Simmons

Carroll H. Simmons, 80, of Naperville died Oct. 8, 2002, at the DuPage Convalescent Center in Wheaton. He was born July 20, 1922, in Condi, S.D.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving at Fort Sheridan as a member of the 5th Army Band. He was a 1941 graduate of Proviso East High School. He received a bachelor's degree in 1950 from Chicago Music College and a master's degree in 1956 from Northwestern University. He was a band director and music educator at Marshall High School from 1951 to 1954, at Amundsen High school from 1954 to 1959 and at Proviso West High School in Hillside from 1959 to 1985. He was a French-horn player and a member of the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra from 1947 to 1990. He also was a veteran of many Chicago-area musical performances, including the "Nutcracker" ballet.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Elena M. Simmons; three children, Carol Worobec, Dr. Paul Simmons and Douglas Simmons; and seven grandchildren, Ian and Kevin Worobec and Geoffrey, Tracy, Christine, Catherine Rose and Anna Marie Simmons.

He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Lester Simmons; his mother, Sara Hurd Simmons; and two brothers, Joseph and David Simmons.

All services are private.

Teckla C. Reich

Teckla C. Reich, 87, a Naperville resident since 1976 and former resident of Blue Island, died Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, at ManorCare in Naperville. She was born April 19, 1915, in Shume, Ohio.

She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her husband, Walter Reich of Naperville; a daughter, Sandy (husband Joe) Phelan of Naperville; three stepdaughters, Jeanette Drafke of Lemont, Carol Drafke of Mattoon and Gail Dahn of Venice, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Diane Morehouse of Oak Forest; six grandchildren, Kenneth, Matthew and Jolyn Phelan and Edwin, David and Carrie Schilling; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Adelle Weaver of Saginaw, Mich.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Edwin Schilling, and two sons, Edwin and Kenneth Schilling.

Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.

Funeral services will begin at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 7, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 1550 Modaff Road, Naperville, with the Rev. Terry McReynolds officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Interment will take place at Chapel Hill Gardens South in Oak Lawn.

Elisabeth B. Riedy

Elisabeth B. "Elsie" Riedy, 90, of Naperville and a former resident of Lisle, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at St. Patrick's Residence in Naperville. She was born March 31, 1912, in Germany.

She moved to the Chicago area in 1929 to join her sister, Catherine, and lived in Naperville, where she was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church. In 1962, she married Louis Riedy and moved to Lisle, where she was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, and then moved back to Naperville in 1995. She will be remembered as being an avid gardener and enjoying needlework, baking and crossword puzzles.

She is survived by her two stepdaughters, Susan (husband Marty) Szczech of Naperville and Joyce (husband Tom) Mlyniec of Lisle; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and step-daughter-in-law, Betty Riedy of Lisle.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Riedy; a granddaughter, Denise Simpson; her parents, Franz and Elsie (Koch) Boiselle; a sister and four brothers from Germany; her sister Catherine (husband August) Binder; and two stepsons, Richard (wife Dorothy) Riedy and James Riedy.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Tuesday, Sept. 24, at St. Patrick's Residence in Naperville.

Visitation was held Monday, Sept. 23, at the funeral home. Interment was at SS Peter and Paul cemetery in Naperville.

Donald J. Couch

Donald J. Couch, 57, of Aurora died Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, at Hines Veterans Administration Hospital. He was born Oct. 3, 1945, in Eugene, Ore.

He retired as senior master sergeant from the U.S. Air Force after more than 20 years of service. He toured Korea, England and Vietnam, and served in the United States in Washington, Arizona, California and Utah. He was an executive in telecommunications with Northern Telecom, from which he retired after 16 years of service. He will be remembered as a man who enjoyed bass fishing and hunting.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia (Howard) Couch; four children, Donald (wife Lana) Couch Jr. of Houston, Kathy Moore (husband Jimmy Moomey) of Del City, Okla., Michael (wife Nita) Couch of Murphy, Texas, and Tammy (husband Joseph) McCusker of Allen, Texas; 10 grandchildren, Shawn Cho, James, Daniel and Kimber Couch, Joshua, Jarod and Jessica McCusker, Jenny and Joshua Snyder, and Brian Moore; his mother, Evelyn (Dupuy) Couch of Eugene; four brothers, Gene, George, Howard and Rodney Couch, all of Eugene; and two sisters, Margaret Parmer and Melva Taylor, both of Eugene.

He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Couch.

A memorial service took place Monday, Sept. 23, at the Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital Chapel.

Military inurnment will take place at a later date at the Dallas-Fort Worth National cemetery in Dallas.

Vernon E. McGonagle

Vernon E. McGonagle, 62, a resident of Naperville since 1969, died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002, at Edward Hospital in Naperville. He was born April 10, 1940, in Los Angeles and was raised in Minnesota.

He had been a member of Naperville Country Club since 1973, where he was a former president of the club and nine-time club champion. He was a dedicated member of the Anoka Alumni Club of Anoka High School. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a bachelor's degree in history. While attending college, he was a member of the track and basketball teams and the Men's Glee Club. He owned McGonagle Securities and McGonagle and Sons Construction.

He is survived by two sons, Sean (wife Tracy) McGonagle of Buffalo Grove and Scott McGonagle of Naperville; two grandchildren, Ryan and Kevin McGonagle; his companion, Cathe Wood of Naperville; his mother, Esther McGill of Crystal, Minn.; two brothers, William (wife Janice) McGonagle of Dunstable, Mass., and Michael (wife Linda) McGonagle of Bloomington, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Howard; and a sister, Susan.

Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, Sept. 26, at a time and place to be determined.

Interment will be private.

Francis P. O'Neill

Francis Philip "Bud" O'Neill, 92, of Tabor Hills in Naperville died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at his home. He was born June 1, 1910, in Chicago.

He had been a Naperville resident for the past three years, having lived in Chicago and Villa Park. He was an attorney in private practice until his retirement two years ago. He had been a 68-year member of the American and Illinois bar associations. He was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Naperville.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Margaret C. (Berg) O'Neill; two sons, Frank (wife Joyce) of Chicago and Jon W. (friend Maryann Castello) of Plainfield; two daughters, Jeanne (friend Frank Adamec) Ziegler of Florida and Marilyn Renee "Dell'Aringa" (husband David) McGowan of Naperville; 10 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Margery A. O'Neill, in 1979; his parents; and two brothers, John Robert and Eugene O'Neill.

Visitation will take place from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 24021 W. Royal Worlington Drive, Naperville.

A funeral service will begin at 8:45 a.m. Monday, Sept. 30, at the funeral home and proceed to SS Peter and Paul Church, 36 N. Ellsworth St., Naperville, for a 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian burial.

Interment will be at All Saints cemetery in Des Plaines.

Delbert A. Marklein Sr.

Delbert A. Marklein Sr., 87, of Yorkville died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, at his home. He was born Jan. 19, 1915, in Yorkville.

He married Margaret Meyer on July 10, 1937, in Oswego, and they spent the next 65 years together. He was a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Yorkville, where he had served as one of its deacons. He farmed in the Yorkville area and was a member of the Kendall County Farm Bureau for many years until his retirement in 1972. He then joined the maintenance department of the Yorkville school district from 1972 until 1992. He was devoted to his family and enjoyed spending time with them.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret; two children, Delbert Marklein Jr. of Glendora, Calif., and Janice (husband Kenneth) Cherry of Yorkville; three granddaughters, Leah Nealon, Kimberly (husband Daniel) Olson and Kris (husband Michael) Hampton; and four great-grandchildren, Michael and Emily Olson and Taylor and Wyatt Hampton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Anna (Henne) Marklein; two brothers, Benard and Calvin Marklein; and four sisters, Evelyn Davis, Verna Schmidt, Shirley Nash and Florence Marklein.

Visitation will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, at Larson-Nelson Funeral Home, 410 E. Countryside Parkway, Yorkville.

A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 14, at the funeral home.

Interment will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Church cemetery in Yorkville.

W. Kaye Morrison-Long

W. Kaye (Berry) Morrison-Long, 54, of Plainfield and former resident of Naperville, died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002, at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet. She was born Aug. 16, 1948, in Gadsden, Ala.

She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Naperville. She had retired from SBC Ameritech after 35 years of service.

She is survived by her husband, James E. Long; four children, Amber (husband C.J.) Seitz of Montgomery, Tommy Berry of Plainfield, Chris (husband Delbert) Evans of Gilbert, Ariz., and L.J. (wife Angelia) Long of Greeley, Colo.; two grandchildren, Nathan and Caitlin Evans; a sister, Jan Berry of Austin, Texas; two brothers, Thomas Berry of Albuquerque, N.M., and Mel Berry of Birmingham, Ala.; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ira and Lois (Groves) Berry.

Visitation will take place from 2 to 7 p.m., followed by a funeral service, Wednesday, Oct. 9, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.

Interment will be in Colorado.

Mukundan Shivaram

Mukundan Shivaram, 59, of Naperville died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, at his home. He was born July 3, 1943, in Lahore, India.

He came to the United States in 1967 and was very proud to be a citizen. He was educated in Lawrence School in Ooty, India. He went on to the Indian Institute of Technology in Madras for his bachelor's in engineering. When he came to America, he received his master's in engineering from Tennessee Technological Institute in Cookeville. He worked for First National Stores in Boston and was asked to go to Windsor Locks, Conn., to set up a new computer system for distribution. He then returned to Boston and worked for SCA Services and Waste Management. In 1987, he moved to Chicago to work for World Wide Chain StoreSystems. In 1987, he became a founding partner of the British American Consulting Group. This company grew to a staff of more than 500 people in the United States, England, South Africa, the Netherlands and Australia. In 1995, he formed his own company, Bridgeways International, and until the time of his death had been working closely with the government of India on his invention to lay roads in India.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce (Chillson); and daughter, Shanti, both of Naperville; two sisters, Dr. Prassana (husband Dr. Padmanbham) Nair of Ellicott City, Md., and Dr. Lolitha (husband Gopala Krishnan) Nayer of Bombay, India; three nephews, Balagopal (wife Karen Meyer) Nair of Stowe, Mass., Dr. Jaygopal Nair of Nashville, Tenn., and Ramgopal Nair of Ellicott City; a niece, Dr. Ajana (husband Dr. Ashokan) Nair of Dubai, United Arab Emirates; many nieces and nephews in Connecticut; three grandnephews; his mother-in-law, Eileen Richardson Chillson of Enfield, Conn.; a grandmother-in-law, Mary E. Richardson of Pittsford, N.Y.; a brother-in-law, Richard H. Chillson of Enfield; and six sisters-in-law, Judy (husband Jack) Cofer of Enfield, Jayne "Dee Dee" Chillson of East Hartford, Conn., Joanne (husband Colin) Fitzsimons of King of Prussia, Pa., Janet (husband Tomas) Boberek of Ellington, Conn., Jeri (husband Russ) St. John of Somers, Conn., and Jodi (husband Jack) Lippi of Ellington.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thanu Mukundan Nair and Kanthimathi (Pullai) Nair.

A puja will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, at the family home.

A memorial Mass will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, at St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 87th Street and Lisson Road, Naperville. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at Leete-Stevens Funeral Home in Enfield.

Memorials may be directed to St. Thomas Hospice, 8230 S. Madison St., Burr Ridge, IL 60527; or to the American Cancer Society, 999 N. Main St., Glen Ellyn, IL 60137.
