Late word has been received regarding the death of Joan L. (Davis) Wilander, 71, a Naperville resident since 1984. She died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at Edward Hospital in Naperville. She was born Jan. 11, 1932, in Brooklyn, N.Y.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Wilander of Naperville.
Visitation will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.
A funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 815 S. Washington St., Naperville.
Interment will be private.
Nancy Ruth Leslie
Nancy Ruth Leslie, 86, of Naperville died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at her home. She was born April 9, 1916, in Webb City, Mo.
She had been a resident of Naperville for the past 18 years, moving from Dallas.
She was a former credit manager for the Carriage Shop in Dallas. She had been an active member of the Naperville Woman's Club from 1982 to 1996. She was also an active member at Knox Presbyterian Church in Naperville where she was a member of the Hall of Famers. She was an active Bridge Club member.
She is survived by two daughters, Suzann (husband Gerald) Patterson and Laura Leslie, both of Naperville; four grandchildren, Judi (husband Mark) Wendt of Omaha, Neb., and Jerry Patterson Jr., Brett Kolinek and Brandon Kolinek, all of Naperville; and two great-grandchildren, Ryan and Beau Wendt.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert "Duke" Leslie; her parents, Walter and Lauretta (Hollingsworth) Ragland; three brothers; and a sister.
A funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at Knox Presbyterian Church, 1105 Catalpa Lane, Naperville. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m.
Interment will take place at Naperville cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to Knox Presbyterian Church.

Mary T. Wilcek
Mary T. Wilcek, 87, a resident of Naperville and a longtime resident of Cicero, died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at her home. She was born Sept. 8, 1915, in Chicago.
She had been a resident of Cicero since the late 1940s before moving to Naperville two years ago. She was a former employee of Brach Candies and Franklin Bindery, both of Chicago, and H.J. Products of Melrose Park. She was a former member of St. Francis of Rome Church in Cicero and was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Church in Aurora. She also was a member of the Catholic Slovak Ladies Union, Cleveland. She enjoyed crocheting.
She is survived by a sister, Louise Janetka of Naperville and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, including Richard (wife Ellen) Janetka of Naperville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Anna (Bazik) Wilcek; five siblings, Emma Mattis, Frank Wilcek, Margaret Bernak, Anna Wilcek and Anna Hulina; and a brother-in-law, Henry Janetka.
Visitation will take place from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.
A funeral service will begin at 9 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3, at the funeral home and proceed to a Mass of Christian burial at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 801 S. Eola Road, Aurora.
Interment will take place at Our Lady Of Sorrows cemetery in Hillside.
Memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor's choice or Masses, which are preferred.
Richard F. Zuleg
Richard F. "Buck" Zuleg, 75, a Naperville resident since 1961, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at Edward Hospital in Naperville. He was born Dec. 19, 1927, in Chicago.
He served in the U.S. Army and was a sales representative for Midland Pipe and Supplies, retiring in 1994 after 45 years of service. He was a member of Berwyn Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2378, Bethany Lutheran Church and Naperville Moose Lodge 1290.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane; a daughter, Mary Anne (husband Bill) Porter of St. Charles; a son, Matthew (wife Jill) Zuleg of Naperville; four grandchildren, Nick and Emma Porter and Kyle and Kristen Zuleg; and a sister, Shirley (husband Joseph) Vorel of Westchester.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Clara Zuleg.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.
A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, at the funeral home. The Rev. Terry McReynolds will officiate.
Interment will be at SS Peter and Paul cemetery in Naperville.

Edna Mae (Engleking) Arney
Edna Mae (Engleking) Arney, 90, a Naperville resident since 1952, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at her home. She was born Jan. 5, 1913, in St. John, S.D.
She grew up in Medicine Lake, Mont. She attended cosmetology school in Minnesota before moving to Chicago in the 1930s. A homemaker, she moved to Naperville in 1952 and was employed for six years with DuPage Precision Products Co. She enjoyed gardening and her birds.
She is survived by two daughters, Sandra Poole of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Loretta Hamilton of Naperville; a son, John J. (wife Cindy) Arney Jr. of Oswego; a stepdaughter, Bernell (husband Dick) Christiansen of Arlington Heights; 13 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Arney Sr.; her parents; an infant granddaughter; and two brothers.
A funeral service will take place at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville, with the Rev. Mont Mitchell officiating. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m.
Inurnment will take place at River Hills cemetery in Batavia.

Paul R. 'Ernie' Erne Sr.
Paul R. "Ernie" Erne Sr., 88, a three-year resident of Naperville and a former resident of Chicago and North Fort Myers, Fla., died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, at Meadowbrook Manor of Naperville. He was born Sept. 20, 1914, in Fort Wayne, Ind.
He lived in Fort Wayne until the age of 7, when his family moved to Chicago. He graduated from Senn High School, where he was captain of the tennis team. He went on to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he met and married
his wife, Edna, on June 11, 1938. They were married
for 64 years. He served for many years as a Chicago policeman and retired out of the 19th District on April 2, 1970. He moved to Presque Isle, Wis., where he was a member of the town board and the Presque Isle American Legion.
He is survived by four daughters, Patricia Hatfield of Marengo, Barbara Deppe of Lake in the Hills, Karen (husband Charles) Vladika of Naperville and Therese (husband Jack) Schmidt of Aurora; three sons, Paul Erne Jr. of Fort Myers, Fla., James (wife Sandy) Erne of Plainfield and Michael (wife Sandy) Erne of Elgin; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna (Staes) Erne, in 2002; a son, Dennis Matthew Erne; and his parents, Raymond and Christine Erne.
Visitation will take place from 5 to 8 p.m., with a service beginning at 7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 24, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville. The Rev. Ted Weitzel will officiate.
Inurnment will be at Naperville cemetery at a later date.

Arlene F. Ambre
Arlene F. Ambre, 61, of Naperville died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at her home. She was born Jan. 15, 1942, in Chicago.
She was a 1963 graduate of the St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Evanston. She was employed for 14 years at the offices of Dr. Aslam and Dr. Emami. She was a parishioner at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Naperville and served on the St. Raphael school board and in other volunteer capacities.
She is survived by her husband, Jerome M. Ambre of Naperville; five children, Sharon (husband Jeffery) Feller of Aurora, Patti (husband Daniel) McHugh of Wheaton, Kathleen (husband Scott) Conry of Ballwin, Mo., Michael Ambre of Aurora and Thomas Ambre of Naperville; 10 grandchildren, Nicholas, Nathan, Brandon, Erin, Killeen, Connor, Kenneth, Kyle, Jeremy and Megan; her father- and mother-in-law, Fred and Cele Ambre of Naperville; three sisters-in-law; and three brothers-in-law.
She was preceded in death by her parents, August Huberty and Frances Shannahan.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, at St. Raphael Church, 1215 Modaff Road, Naperville.
Interment will be at SS Peter and Paul cemetery in Naperville.

Enrique Villagrana Jr.
Enrique Villagrana Jr., infant son of Enrique and Bertha (Ramos) Villagrana of Aurora, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at Edward Hospital in Naperville.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister, Elizabeth; his maternal grandparents, Anacleto and Maria Ramos of El Paso, Texas; a paternal grandfather, Salvador Villagrana of Mexico; a paternal grandmother, Maria Santos Deloera of Huntington Park, Calif.; three maternal aunts, Barb Ramos and Lucy (husband Rafael) Garcia, both of Aurora, and Olivia (husband Ricardo) Lazano of Montgomery; a maternal uncle, Anacleto (wife Annette) Ramos of Aurora; and two paternal uncles, Abraham (wife Brenda) Villagrana and Manuel (wife Reyna) Villagrana, both of Aurora.
Services and interment were private.

Arlyne S. Jesse, 66, a resident of Midland, Mich., and Hobe Sound, Fla., and a former resident of Naperville, died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003, in Stuart, Fla. She was born Oct. 21, 1936, in Milwaukee.
She was a former member of St. Raphael Church in Naperville.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Roger D.; four daughters, Liz Jesse of Naperville, Cathy (husband Steve) Anderson of Glen Ellyn, Barb (husband Casey) Conway of Grayslake and Sara (husband Brad) Martin of Naperville; eight grandchildren; her mother, Bernice Rydzewski of Carol Stream; a brother, Jim (wife Naya) Rydzewski of Summerland Key, Fla.; and a sister, Sue Sheehan of North Palm Beach, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her father, George Rydzewski.

Magdalen B. Valenta, 87, of Sun City, Ariz., and a former resident of Cicero from 1945 to 1977, died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, at Boswell Memorial Hospital in Sun City. She was born May 14, 1915, in Christopher.
She is survived by her husband, Leo, of Sun City; two daughters, Loretta (husband Robert) Asher of Downers Grove and Laraine (husband Gerry) Ellensohn of Naperville; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will take place from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 27, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11 a.m. at SS Peter and Paul Church, 26 N. Ellsworth St., Naperville.
Interment will be at Queen of Heaven cemetery in Hillside.

Margaret A. Kolenda
Margaret A. Kolenda, 87, of Vienna and a former resident of Elmhurst and Lombard, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at Hillview Health Care Center in Vienna. She was born Jan. 16, 1916, in Hurst.
She was a retired beautician. Her family owned and operated Kolenda's Foods, a grocery and sandwich shop in Lombard, from 1958 to 1971. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lombard. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by two sons, Robert G. Kolenda of Vienna and Dr. John E. (wife Chris) Kolenda of Naperville; two daughters, Marianne Brizendine of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Margaret II (husband Gerald) Topel of North Aurora; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Jean Manak of Hart, Mich., and Eloise Parker of Prescott, Ariz.; and two sisters-in-law, Hazel Shelton of Vienna and Helen Marczarek of Woffard Heights, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. Kolenda, in 1981; her parents, Frank and Anna (DeNeal) Shelton; a brother, Billy Shelton; and four sisters, Ovalee Landino, Frankie Diggs, Lillian Kerley and Louellen Shelton.
A graveside service took place Thursday, Jan. 30, at Gilead cemetery near Simpson.
