Ruth A. Kenney

Ruth Agnes (Humphrey) Kenney, 86, a resident of Lisle Township and a Naperville-area resident since 1968, died Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, at her home. She was born March 18, 1916, in Sykesville, Pa.

After graduating from Sykesville High School, she completed a course in business at Dubois Business College in Dubois, Pa. She worked in Dubois until she married Donald E. Kenney on Aug. 22, 1936, and dedicated herself to homemaking and family. She started her new life in Naperville when Westinghouse Corp. transferred her husband to the city in 1968. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She made many friends when she worked at Jewel Foods and during her volunteer work at the Naperville Senior Center and the Serendipity Shop. She was an avid gardener and birder. Throughout her life, she continued her mother's tradition of taking in boarders who became part of her extended family.

She is survived by five sons, Donald S. (wife Marilee) Kenney of Denton, Texas, James C. (wife Linda) Kenney of Ninevah, Pa., William L. (wife Kathryn) Kenney of Sarver, Pa., Robert C. (wife Joan) Kenney of Baraboo, Wis., and David E. (wife Katherine) Kenney of Fort Collins, Colo.; 11 grandchildren, Ruth Ann (husband Gregory) Renaud, Carolyn (husband Wayne) Widholm, Jill (husband Al) Valachovic and Stephen (wife Joanne), Michael, Andrew, Brian, Jeffrey, Ryan, Daniel and Allison Kenney; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Florenna Harvey of Sykesville; and a brother, James Humphrey of Winter Haven, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her parents, Charles E. and Effie (Sykes) Humphrey; four brothers, Dorsey, Jacob, Charles and Frank Humphrey; and a daughter, Marjorie Clare Kenney.

Visitation will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 516 S. Washington St., Naperville.

Services and interment will be private.

Dorothy A. Clapper

Late word has been received regarding the death of Dorothy A. Clapper, 83, of Aurora. She died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at Tabor Hills Healthcare Facility in Naperville. She was born April 9, 1919, in Chicago.

Virginia A. Smallman

Late word has been received regarding the death of Virginia A. (Cooke) Smallman, 96, a resident of Morton Grove and a former resident of Naperville. She died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, at Bethany Terrace Retirement and Nursing Center in Morton Grove.

Arlyne S. Jesse

Late word has been received regarding the death of Arlyne S. (Rydzewski) Jesse, 66, a resident of Midland, Mich., and Hobe Sound, Fla., and a former resident of Naperville. She died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003, in Stuart, Fla.

She is survived by her husband, Roger Jesse of Midland.

William D. Seiple

William D. Seiple, 77, a resident of Naperville since 1962, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at his home. He was born in 1925 in Rochelle.

He attended public schools in Rochelle, graduating from Rochelle High School in 1943, after which he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and entered World War II. He spent his four-year military career at schools at Great Lakes and San Diego, as well as the University of Chicago. He was stationed at the submarine base on Midway Island with Subdivision 242.

Following his discharge in 1948, he took advantage of the GI Bill and graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1951, then moved back to Rochelle and became a teacher, coach and school administrator at Creston Elementary School.

In 1962, he moved his family to Naperville and began a career as a consultant to Illinois school districts with the Illinois School Consulting Service. In 1984, he was employed by LaSalle National Bank of Chicago to head the public finance division, a post he held until his retirement.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Masonic Lodge, both in Rochelle. He was a member of the Creston Boosters and served the organization as the master of ceremonies for the annual Booster Days celebration during the late '50s and early '60s. He was also a member of the Union League Club in Chicago and an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

He is survived by his wife, Marthalene (Abker), whom he married in 1948; four children, Stephen (wife Sally) of Springfield, William D. Jr. (wife Nancy) of Naperville, Orville Lee of Springfield and Krista (husband Joe) Kelch of Aurora; and six grandchildren, Ryan, Abigail, Meghan, Ashley, Kayla and Riley.

He was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter, Lara Kelch; his parents, Lee and Lila Seiple; and two sisters, Lauretta Hetland and Lou Rene Maveus.

Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.

A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31, at the funeral home.

Interment will be at Naperville cemetery.

Joseph A. Caracello

Joseph A. Caracello, 83, of Naperville and a former 38-year resident of Darien, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at Edward Hospital in Naperville. He was born Nov. 18, 1919, in Chicago.

He was a motorman for Philadelphia Rapid Transit. He served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945 and was a member of the Darien Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, Downers Grove American Legion and Downers Grove Loyal Order of Moose Lodge. He was also active in the senior group in Darien.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine; four stepsons, Glenn (wife Sherry), Greg, David (wife Dana) and Randy (wife Carole); nine grandchildren; and three sisters, Kay Pustay, Victoria Dziewinski and Sue Iona.

Visitation will take place from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, at Modell Funeral Home, 7710 S. Cass Ave., Darien. A service will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, at the funeral home. The Rev. Dick Bennett will officiate.

Interment will be at Woodlawn cemetery in Forest Park.

William C. Kennedy

William C. Kennedy, 78, a longtime resident of the Aurora and Naperville area, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, at HCR ManorCare Health Services in Naperville. He was born Feb. 5, 1924, in Trowbridge.

He had worked for 35 years in the Naperville and Oswego areas for PAG and Agrinetics. He served during World War II in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper with the 17th Airborne Division in Europe.

He is survived by five children, Cindy Bickle of Naperville, Doug (wife Shelly) Kennedy of Florence, Texas, Teresa (husband Steve) Greer of Lebanon, Ohio, Carl (wife Bobbi) Kennedy of Montgomery and Jon (wife Cindy) Kennedy of Aurora; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruby Steele of Mattoon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis Marion and Grace (Storm) Kennedy; a brother, Wilmer Pruett; and three sisters, Evelyn Price, Susie Latch and Helen Hutton-Campbell.

Visitation will take place from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 516 S. Washington St., Naperville.

A funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31, at the funeral home.

Interment will be private.

Marie T. (Bulger) Jensik

Marie T. (Bulger) Jensik, 92, of Lisle died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at Edward Hospital in Naperville. She was born Jan. 8, 1911, in Walworth, Wis.

She was born and raised in Walworth and had been a resident of the Chicago area for many years. She was a former resident of St. Patrick's Residence and Independence Village, both in Naperville, and Villa St. Benedict in Lisle. She enjoyed music and loved animals. She retired in 1980 from C.H. Hanson Co. in Chicago.

She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn "Carrie" Harris of Green Bay, Wis.; five grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; a brother, Everett Bulger of Lake Delavan, Wis.; a sister, Gladys Greishamer of Florida; a sister-in-law, Virginia Jensik of Naperville; many nieces and nephews, including Bonnie (husband Tom) Sittner of Naperville, James Bulger of Florida and Jeffery (wife Maureen) Jensik, Mary Jensik and Priscilla Laubscher of Naperville; and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Jensik; her parents, Lewis and Ida Bulger; and five brothers, Harry, Gus, John, Martin and Arthur Bulger.

Visitation will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31, at Villa St. Benedict, 1920 Maple Ave., Lisle. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11 a.m. in the chapel. The Rev. Becket Franks will officiate.

Interment will take place at Queen of Heaven cemetery in Hillside.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Villa St. Benedict, 1920 Maple Ave., Lisle, IL 60532.

Jean K. Chalk

Jean K. (Gehrke) Chalk, 62, a Naperville resident since 1988, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at her home. She was born July 25, 1940, in Aurora.

She was the owner and operator of a residential cleaning service. She enjoyed family and friends and had a strong commitment to her religious faith. She was a collector of koala and teddy bears, as well as angels.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas A. Chalk of Naperville, whom she married June 19, 1981; two stepchildren, Terri Chalk of Crest Hill and Jennifer (husband Milo) Beckler of La Crosse, Wis.; two grandchildren, Tiana and Brennan Beckler; two sisters, Eunice Von Hoff of Montgomery and Helen (husband Robert) Bohnstedt of Naperville; a brother, Rich (wife Shirley) Gehrke of Plainfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Lela Gehrke, and six siblings, Howard, LeRoy, Don and Jerry Gehrke, Lois Cobb and Marian Williams.

Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, at the funeral home. The Rev. Preston Woods will officiate.

Interment will be at Lincoln Memorial Park in Aurora.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor's choice.

Hazel White

Hazel White died peacefully at home Friday, May 21, 2004, at 83 years of age. She was born Hazel Dena Bulthouse on Dec. 11, 1920, in Warrenville to Peter and Dena Bulthouse.

She graduated from North Central College in Naperville. She was an active member of New England Congregational Church, the American Association of University Women, the century-old Hawthorne Book Club, Midwest Pressed Glass Club and P.E.O. Chapter DD. She worked as a librarian at Aurora University for 10 years until her retirement. She was a volunteer for several organizations and much beloved by all her friends and family.

She is survived by her three children, Carol White of Minneapolis, Charles White of Aurora and Deborah (Lily) White of Brooklyn, N.Y., from her marriage to Dr. Robert White of Aurora; six grandchildren; and a sister, Elinor Burkholder.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth McCracken.

There will be a memorial service at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 25, at New England Congregational Church, 406 W. Galena Blvd., Aurora. A luncheon will follow at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Aurora University Library or Hesed House.

Alva White

Alva Esther Henryetta (Seaberg) White, age 89, formerly of Immanuel Residences in Downers Grove, died Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, at Meadowbrook Manor in Naperville.

She was the beloved wife of the late Charles White; devoted mother of Alice (husband the Rev. John) Wiens and Charlene (husband Ronald) Carlson; seven grandchildren, Colleen (husband the Rev. Timothy) Heintzelman, the Rev. Alison Wiens, Laurel (husband Joel) Wrobbel, Daniel (wife Gina) Carlson, Michael (wife Amy) Carlson, Sara Carlson and Melissa Carlson; 10 great-grandchildren, Moriah, Micha and Joshua Heintzelman, Rachel and Carissa Wrobbel, Alex, Tyler and Zachary Carlson, Teigan and Gavin Carlson; and loving sister of Brita (husband Lester) Wilcox.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Viola Seaberg.

Services were private.

Inurnment was at Ridgewood cemetery in Des Plaines.

John P. 'Jack' White

John P. "Jack" White, 80, a former Wheaton resident who most recently lived at St. Patrick's Residence in Naperville, died Saturday, April 5, 2003, at Edward Hospital in Naperville. He was born May 17, 1922, in Chicago.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as a gunner and was an active member of the 453rd Bomber Group, Army Division. He was employed with Chicago Fire and Insurance Patrol and was a salesman for Viking Overhead Sprinkling Systems for 15 years. He retired in 1971. He was a former president of Wheaton Boys Baseball, where he also served as head umpire. He was an avid Cubs and Bears fan, and he enjoyed bowling. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Wheaton.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy White; three daughters, Patricia (husband Calvin) Neuhauser of Sullivan, Margaret Jordan Robinson of Wheaton and Kathy (husband Dave) Olson of Wheaton; two sons, Jack (wife Sandy) White of Sycamore and Thomas (wife Cindy) White of Wheaton; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Rosella White, and a daughter, Jean Volmer.

Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 7, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, at St. Patrick's Residence, 1400 Brookdale Road, Naperville.

A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, at St. Patrick's Chapel, 1400 Brookdale Road, Naperville.

Interment will take place at St. Michael cemetery in Wheaton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Patrick's Residence.
