Joseph D. Cassata
Joseph Dominick Cassata, 72, a longtime resident of Naperville, died Monday, March 24, 2003, at Edward Hospital in Naperville. He was born Dec. 23, 1930, in Chicago.
He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He served as president of the Bolingbrook Amateur Radio Club and was retired from Goss Printing Co. and American Flange. He enjoyed running his business, Coax Connection. He was an avid reader of Stephen King, John Grisham and others. He traveled extensively to ham radio conventions in many states.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Dorothy; two daughters, Pamela (husband Robert) Parnass and Karen (husband Thomas) Walker; a son, Mike Cassata; a sister, Maryann Grosenbacher of Portland, Ore.; and two sisters-in-law, Vernita Inglum of Terre Haute, Ind., and Bernice (husband Ronald) Carpenter of Radford, Va.
Interment will take place at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 23, at Abraham Lincoln National cemetery, Joliet, with military honors and color guard.
A memorial service will take place at a later date.
Thomas J. Cecola
Thomas J. Cecola, 63, a Naperville resident since 1976 and former resident of Chicago and Wheaton, died Monday, April 7, 2003, at Loyola Medical Center in Maywood. He was born July 12, 1939, in Chicago.
He grew up in the neighborhood near Grand Avenue and Pulaski Road in Chicago and was a graduate of St. Mel's High School. He received a degree in pharmacy from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He owned and operated Cecola Pharmacy in Chicago, with his father, Benjamin, for 25 years. He later worked as a pharmacist for Osco Drug in Westmont and Lisle. He married
Phylis H. Benko on June 25, 1961. He moved from Chicago to Wheaton in 1964, and from Wheaton to Naperville in 1976. He was a member of St. Margaret Mary Church in Naperville. He enjoyed fishing, Civil War history and, most of all, spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife of Naperville; three sons, Tom (wife Sue) Cecola of Bolingbrook, Rick Cecola of Plainfield and Jeff Cecola of Schaumburg; three grandsons, Benjamin, Jack and Cameron; a sister, Joyce (husband Dan) Weaver of South Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Elva Cecola.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.
A service will begin at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, April 10, at the funeral home and proceed to a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at St. Margaret Mary Church, 1450 Green Trails Drive, Naperville.
Interment will be at SS Peter and Paul cemetery, Naperville.

Martha A. Bollweg
Martha A. Bollweg, 83, a resident of Warrenville since 1946, died Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at St. Patrick's Residence in Naperville. She was born June 19, 1919, in Aurora.
She was a homemaker. She was a graduate of Madonna High School in Aurora and a very active member of St. Irene Catholic Church in Warrenville for many years. She was a member of the Warrenville Veterans of Foreign Wars Women's Auxiliary and the Warrenville Fire Department Auxiliary. She had beautiful rose gardens and enjoyed genealogy, playing golf and pinochle, and making delicious pies for her family.
She is survived by six children, Nancy (husband Michael) Zajano of Worthington, Ohio, Joan (husband Walter) Baczynski of Savannah, Ga., Doris (husband Richard) McGuire of La Grange Park, James (wife Nicola) Bollweg of Naperville, Kenneth (wife Laura) Bollweg of Houston and Raymond J. Bollweg of West Chicago; 13 grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond (wife Rita) Pickert of Mauston, Wis., and Harold (wife Mary Alice) Pickert of Minocqua, Wis.; three sisters, Fran (husband Jerry) Hundley of Warrenville, Shirley Herman of Montgomery and Rosalie (husband Michael) Christofidis of Westchester; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold J. Bollweg; a daughter, Mary Ellen Stubbs; her parents, Conrad and Margaret Pickert; three brothers, Clarence, Donald and Robert Pickert; and a sister, Bernice Brunell.
Visitation will take place from 10 a.m. until time of funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Friday, March 28, at St. Irene Catholic Church, 28W531 Warrenville Road, Warrenville.
Interment will be at Assumption cemetery in Wheaton.

Frederick Martzan
Frederick Martzan, 85, a longtime resident of Naperville, died Monday, April 7, 2003, at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora. He was born Feb. 5, 1918, in Chicago.
After completing high school, he worked for Edison Co. while attending night school to fulfill his goal of becoming a commercial artist. During World War II, he served in the Army, attaining the rank of sergeant. In 1945, upon returning from the war, he married
his longtime sweetheart, Margaret Baumgartner. He dedicated his life to his family. In retirement, he focused his love of art on sculpture, creating numerous wood carvings, some of which were featured in a nationally known art magazine. In his later years, he used his commercial art background to win a design contest sponsored by the city of Naperville. The Naperville Township logo he created is now used on numerous city publications and letterheads. At the time of his death, he had been living with his son and family in Oswego.
He is survived by two children, Kent (wife Cheryl) Martzan of Oswego and Carol (husband Keith) Buckley of Lancaster, Calif.; a granddaughter, Kristen Martzan; four grandsons, Brian, Eric, Michael and Steven Buckley; and a great-granddaughter, Alison Buckley.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; his parents, Fred and Mary (Eikel) Martzan; and two sisters, Louise Frank and Sophie Corrigan.
Visitation will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, April 11, at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, Route 53 and Short Street, Lisle.
Memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor's choice.

Edwin F. Phillips
Edwin F. Phillips, 73, a 43-year resident of Naperville, died Sunday, April 6, 2003, at his home. He was born Sept. 29, 1929, in East Chicago, Ind.
He was in charge of Army recruiting from 1954 to 1956.
He is survived by his wife, Carol (Wallin) Phillips; five children, Elizabeth (husband Edward) Holmwood, Matthew Phillips, Mark (wife Elizabeth) Phillips, Geoffrey (wife Laura) Phillips and Rebecca (husband Ryan) Bahr; and six grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Ted and Zack Holmwood and Parker, Caden and Isabelle Phillips.
Visitation will take place from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, Route 53 and Short Street, Lisle.

Konrad Blocher
Konrad Blocher, 83, of Downers Grove died Friday, April 11, 2003.
He is survived by three daughters, Maria (husband Robert) Hodgman of Naperville, Barbara (husband Franz) Mausser and Katharina (husband Stephen) Christon; eight grandchildren, Barbara Maria, Robert Konrad (wife Kristin) and Michael R. Hodgman, Franz J., Christine Maria and Konrad J. Mausser, and Lillian Maria and John Konrad Christon; and a great-grandson, Konrad J. Hodgman.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria Blocher.
Visitation will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 13, at Adams-Winterfield and Sullivan Funeral Home, 4343 Main St., Downers Grove.
Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, April 14, at the funeral home.

Joseph Benda Jr.
Joseph Benda Jr., 85, a lifelong resident of Lemont, died Sunday, March 30, 2003, at his home. He was born Nov. 29, 1917.
He is survived by his wife, Mary (Jeffery) Benda; six children, Gary (wife Antonia) Benda, John (wife Linda) Benda, William (wife Marietta) Benda, James Benda, Jeffery Benda and Peggy Watters; 14 grandchildren, Christopher (wife Tracy) Benda, Jason Benda, Corynn Benda, Jacqueline Watters, Janine Benda, Nicholette Watters, Bryan Benda, Steven Benda, Fallon Jarboe, Joseph L. Benda, James C. Benda, Brandon Jarboe, Jason Jarboe and Jennifer Benda; and his mother-in-law, Daisy Jeffery.

Mary L. Noyes
Mary L. Noyes, 74, a resident of Clearwater, Fla., since 1976 and a former resident of Naperville, died Sunday, March 30, 2003, at home. She was born in Elmhurst.
She was a music teacher at St. Cecelia School in Clearwater. She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Largo, Fla., and a Eucharistic minister and sacristan at St. Catherine's.
She is survived by seven sons, Peter of Silver Springs, Md., Daniel of Clearwater, Christopher of Plainfield, Timothy of Tequesta, Fla., Benjamin of O'Fallon, Md., Matthew of Largo, Fla., and Adam of Odessa, Fla.; four daughters, Michele Pedulla of Kissimmee, Fla., Gabrielle Noyes of Clearwater, Renee Bauwens of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Juliet Shukitis of Clearwater; 28 grandchildren; and two brothers, Lawrence Lopina of Milwaukee and Thomas Lopina of Oshkosh, Wis.
Visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, at Moss-Feaster Funeral Homes, Clearwater.
A funeral service will take place at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, at St. Catherine of Siena Church, Largo.
Louis J. Maes
Louis John Maes, 58, of Santa Margarita, Calif., and former resident of Naperville, died Thursday, April 3, 2003, in Atascadero, Calif. He was born Nov. 8, 1944, in Chicago.
He grew up in Oak Park and was a graduate of Marmion Military Academy in Aurora and Marquette University in Milwaukee. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War, achieving the rank of captain. He went on to serve as a pilot in the commercial airline industry.
He is survived by his mother, Lorraine E. (Pigoni) Maes of Aurora; a brother, James "Jim" Maes of Lake Havasu, Ariz.; two sisters, Mary Louise Maes of Hot Springs, S.D., and Dolores Fleege of Virginia Beach, Va.; and five nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Joseph Maes.
Family and friends will meet at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 10, for a Mass of Christian burial at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 801 S. Eola Road, Aurora.
Interment will be at Mount Carmel cemetery in Hillside.

Winston S. Abernathy
Winston S. Abernathy, 81, a resident of Bradenton, Fla., and a former resident of Naperville, died April 7, 2003, at his home in Bradenton. He was born July 5, 1921, in Foreman, Ark.
He graduated in 1946 from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a retired engineering executive with Bell Telephone Laboratories. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Bradenton.
He is survived by a daughter, Nan Moss of Watertown, Wis.; a son, Kent Abernathy of Norfolk, Neb.; two sisters, Peggy Graham of Largo, Fla., and Wanda Raymond of Richardson, Texas; and two brothers, Milton Abernathy of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Robert Abernathy of Westerville, Ohio.
Memorial services will begin at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, at Hope Lutheran Church, 4635 26th St. W, Bradenton.
Interment will take place at Hillcrest cemetery in Norfolk, Neb.

Frances V. Lewis
Frances V. Lewis, 72, of Naperville died Saturday, April 12, 2003, at Edward Hospital in Naperville.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn L. Brne of Naperville.
Visitation will take place from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville.
A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, at the funeral home.

Marie Webb
Marie Webb, 98, a former resident of Westmont, Downers Grove and Naperville, died Saturday, March 15, 2003, in Boulder, Colo.
She worked for the Prince Castle/Cock Robin restaurants from the 1940s until her retirement in the 1970s. She managed stores throughout the western suburbs, spending many years at the Downers Grove Cock Robin. She spent her later years living with her daughter in Colorado.
She is survived by a son, Glenn Webb; a daughter, Charlene Wilkinson; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Webb, and a son, Robert Webb.
Interment was private at Bohemian National cemetery in Chicago.
Sarah N. Owen
Sarah N. Owen, 18, of Big Rock and former resident of Plainfield, died Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora. She was born July 19, 1984, in Oklahoma City.
She was in her senior year at Waubonsie Valley High School and had previously attended Plainfield High School.
She is survived by her parents, August and Mary (Owen) Annerino; three sisters, Elizabeth, Marissa and Madeleine Annerino, all of Big Rock; her maternal grandmother, Phyllis Owen of Naperville; her paternal grandparents, John and Emily Annerino of Barrington; her maternal great-grandmother, Mary Jelinek of Naperville; and several aunts and uncles.
She was preceded in death by a brother, August Annerino Jr.; her maternal grandfather, Jim Owen; and an uncle, Jack Jelinek.
Visitation will take place from 2 to 9 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 24021 W. Royal Worlington Drive, Naperville.
Funeral services will take place 2 p.m. Sunday, April 13, at the funeral home. Visitation also will take place from noon until time of service Sunday, April 13.
Interment will be private.
