Elizabeth "Betty" A. Humble
(January 9, 1937 - August 17, 2012)
BLOOMINGTON – Elizabeth “Betty” Humble, 75, of Bloomington, formerly of Kewanee, passed away at 8:15 AM, Friday, August 17, 2012 at her home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, August 22 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Kewanee, and the family has requested casual dress for people attending.
Celebrant will be Rev. Deo Gratias.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM, Tuesday, August 21 at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home in Bloomington, and one hour prior to the services at the church on Wednesday.
Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Kewanee.
Memorials may be directed to the Lewy Body Dementia Association or to the National Kidney Foundation.
Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee, is in charge of local arrangements.
She was born January 9, 1937 in Kewanee, the daughter of Alfred “Fred” and Gertrude (Schneider) Duytschaver.
She married Larry Humble on May 4, 1957 in Kewanee.
He survives, as do three children, Teri (John) Goembel of Danvers, IL, and Mark (Heidi) Humble and Lynda (Scott) Baugh, both of Bloomington, thirteen grandchildren, Niki, Sheli, Amanda, Kati, Cassandra, Stephanie, George, Melissa, Nathan, Tony, Tori, Anthony and Treyton, eight great-grandchildren, a sister, Anita “Kay” (Jack) Heaton of Kewanee, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.
Betty graduated from Kewanee High School in 1954.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Church in Bloomington.
She had a wry sense of humor and enjoyed traveling and gardening.
Betty loved her dogs and spending time with her family.
The family would like to thank OSF Hospice and the Fresenius Medical Clinic for all their care and kindness.
Doris M. Stoner
(May 2, 1933 - October 20, 2014)
KEWANEE - Doris M. Stoner, 81, of Kewanee, died at 8:00 PM, Monday, October 20, 2014 in the emergency room at OSF Saint Luke Medical Center in Kewanee.
Cremation has been accorded and no services are planned at this time.
Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee, is in charge of arrangements.
Robert L. Josephson
(November 15, 1929 - October 24, 2014)
GALESBURG – Robert L. Josephson, 84, of Marigold Nursing Home, formerly of Galva, Toulon, Williamsfield, and Victoria, died at 9:17 p.m., Friday, October 24, 2014 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 29 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva.
Rev. Ann Champion will officiate.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Galva Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the activities department of the Marigold Nursing Home.
Robert was born November 15, 1929 in Galesburg, the son of Sherman and Augusta (Theesfield) Josephson.
He is survived by a brother, Russell Josephson of Galesburg, a sister Marian (George) Fidler of Wyoming, IL, three nieces, Sue (Steve) Hoffman of Rockford, IL, Robin (Wayne) Helenthal of Normal, IL, and Peggy (Chris) Piper of Bradford, IL, three nephews, Roger Josephson of Colorado Springs, CO, Ronald (Chris) Josephson of Williamsfield, and Dan (Sue) Fidler of Jefferson, IN, and several great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Richard “Red” Josephson, an infant sister, one niece and three nephews.
He graduated from Williamsfield High School in 1948.
He had farmed, worked for Knox County Drainage and for the City of Galva Water Department.
Austin L. Porter
(June 21, 1996 - June 18, 2015)
GALVA - Austin Lee Porter, 18, of Galva, died at 1:24 PM, Thursday, June 18, 2015 in the emergency room at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle accident in Bureau County.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, June 24 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva.
Pastor Don Reul will officiate.
Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 PM, Tuesday, June 23 at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Galva Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Austin Porter Memorial Fund.
He was born June 21, 1996 in Galesburg.
Survivors include his father, Tony (Chasity) Porter of Galva, his mother, Charlie (Ken) Brooks of Galva, his siblings, Madison Mosley, Emery Hartman, Grayden and Paven Porter and Tony Porter, Jr., his grandparents, Debbie Koelling (Jeff McDonald), Randy Porter and Mike (Linda) Miller, all of Kewanee, and Tom (Judy) Hartman and Howard Brooks of Galva, a niece, Iris Mae and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Katie Brooks, Bobby Joe Garmany, Bo Porter, Phillip Fellger and Rusty Miller.
Austin graduated from Galva High School in 2014 and attended Black Hawk East and had worked at Appliances Unlimited while going to college.
He worked most of all as a black topper for his father’s company, American Paving.
He attended the First Baptist Church in Galva.
He enjoyed lifting, fishing, hunting, football and hanging out with his friends and “the ladies.”
He especially enjoyed being with his family.
Jerome D. Baker
(January 24, 1957 - February 19, 2015)
KEWANEE - Jerome D. Baker, 58, of Kewanee, died at 12:30 PM, Thursday, February 19, 2015 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, February 23 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee.
Deacon Martin VanMeltebeck will officiate.
Visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 PM, Sunday, February 22 at the funeral home.
Cremation will be accorded following the services and private inurnment will be held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery in Atkinson.
Memorials may be directed to the American Pancreatic Association.
He was born January 24, 1957 in Kewanee, the son of Clifford R. and Ruth I. (Owens) Baker.
He married Lynn E. Hicks on June 9, 1979 in Kewanee.
She survives, as does his mother of Kewanee, two sons, Jeremy Baker and his special friend, Danielle Steger of Kewanee, and Jesse Baker of Kewanee, currently stationed with the U.S. Air Force in Warner Robins, GA, his sister, Myra Baker of Springfield, IL, several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews, his best buddy, Max and his grand-dog, Monte.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Jerome graduated from Kewanee High School in 1975.
He worked at Kress Corporation in Brimfield, for 37 years as a draftsman and senior designer.
He had been affiliated with St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
He played in various bands from 1970-90.
He enjoyed fishing and participating in tournaments and was a member of the Thunderbird Bass Club.
He loved fishing with the guys that became “good ole fishing buddies” which included, Eddie Welgat and Rich Hendrick.
Jerome also enjoyed working on cars with his son, Jeremy, notably the project of the 85' Monte SS to a full 9 second race car.
He also loved attending NASCAR and NHRA races.
Joan A. Phillips
(March 3, 1926 - August 25, 2012)
KEWANEE - Joan A. Phillips, 86, of Kewanee, died at 7:24 PM, Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Courtyard Estates in Galva.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, Thursday, August 30 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Celebrant will be Fr. Michael Hussey.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM, Wednesday, August 29 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee.
Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society or to the Kewanee Public Library District Building Restoration or Window Fund.
She was born March 3, 1926 in Galva, the daughter of Don Cameron and Sarah Jane (Homer) Bell.
She married John Louis Phillips on August 24, 1946 in Kewanee, and he preceded her in death on November 2, 1996.
Also preceding her were her parents, a son, Robert W. Phillips, a brother, Robert Eugene Bell and a sister in infancy, Charlene Bell.
Survivors include her son, John D. (Lisa) Phillips of Coal Valley, IL, two daughters, Patricia A. Whisler of Kewanee, and Kathryn M. (Steven) Perron of Indianapolis, IN, ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Joan graduated from Kewanee High School in 1944.
She worked as a Data Entry Specialist and had also worked at Caterpillar in East Peoria, the Rock Island Arsenal and then, at John Deere Plow and Planter, where she retired.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Society.
She had also been a member of the Kewanee Greeters, the Red Hat Club, the Kewanee Artists Association and the Sewing Club.
She was also a regular attendee of the KHS Class of ‘44 luncheons, as well as those of her husband’s Class of ‘42.
She was also a volunteer as a Friend of the Library.
She enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading and especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
