Daniel Frederick Kramer

KEWANEE - Daniel Frederick Kramer, 56, of Kewanee, died at 3:46 PM, Monday, July 30, 2012 in the emergency room at Kewanee Hospital.
Cremation has been accorded and a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be directed to the Henry County Humane Society or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee, is in charge of arrangements.
He was born August 15, 1955 in Kewanee, the son of Frederick and Marion (Menzenberg) Kramer.
Survivors include three sisters, Debra (Dennis) Anderson of Dent, MN, JoAnn (Kenneth) DeSmit of Kewanee, and Jean (Wes) Bengtson of Erhard, MN, two nieces, eight nephews, two great-nieces, three great-nephews and his two beloved cats, Win and Spike.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Daniel graduated from Kewanee High School in 1974.
He worked as a cook at Courtyard Estates.
He enjoyed cooking, collecting various items, being on Facebook and surfing the internet.
ATWELL, Edward James
ATKINSON – Edward James Atwell, 75, died at his home yesterday after a short illness.
Services will be at the Vandemore Funeral Home at 2 Saturday afternoon, with the Masons in charge, with the Rev. Kenwood Bryant assisting.
Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery.
Mr. Atwell was born in Cornwall Township June 26, 1881, son of Henry and Caroline Dupree Atwell.
He was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Atkinson Lodge 43, AF & AM.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Barney Charlet and Mrs. Levrette Noble, both of Cambridge; three brothers, Frank of Sterling, and Howard and Ben of Atkinson, and six nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Clarence.
Pallbearers will be Ben Sleaford, Rollin Farnam, Abe Sleight, Bert Swanson, A. W. Carr and Joe Seaford.

Darlene M. Ferris

KEWANEE - Darlene M. Ferris, 90, of Kewanee, died at 6:13 PM, Thursday, August 23, 2012 at Kewanee Hospital.
Cremation has been accorded and there will be a memorial service at 2:00 PM, Sunday, August 26 at Calvary Baptist Church in Kewanee.
Pastor Brian Currier will officiate.
Private inurnment will be held at a later date.

She was born February 7, 1922 in Bradley, IL, the daughter of Austin William and Margaret Melvina (Newkirk) Carman.
She married Arnold J. Ferris on February 5, 1942 in Davenport, IA, and he preceded her in death April 20, 1984.
Survivors include two daughters, Martha Miller of Imperial, MO, and Rosemary Behnke of Kelso, WA, four grandchildren, Robin Sherrill of Bonne Terre, MO, Eric Miller of DeSoto, MO, Tracy Fanning of Japan, and Ann Behnke of Kelso, WA, and ten great-grandchildren, Tim and Jessica Sherrill, Brittany and Makayla Miller, Kayla, Daniel and Colleen Fanning, Ron and David Moore and Tara Behnke.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother and a sister.
Darlene was a homemaker and had worked at Boss Manufacturing.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
She enjoyed cooking and in her early years she enjoyed doing crafts and attending flea markets and yard sales.
She was a very giving person who had a great love for God, her family and her church and church family.
She also enjoyed reading her Bible and when her eyesight failed, she would listen to Christian radio stations.
Anne R. Williams

KEWANEE - Anne R. Williams, 97, of Kewanee, died at 10:38 AM Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at Toulon Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 PM, Friday, August 31 at Pleasant View Cemetery.
Deacon Martin VanMeltebeck will officiate.
Memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice.

She was born on September 19, 1914 in Kewanee, the daughter of Michael and Regina Dragolovich.
She had married Thomas Williams and he preceded her in death.
She is survived by a son, Thomas of Lisle, IL, a daughter, Mary Ann of New York and three grandchildren, Thomas, David and Ryann.
Robert L. Heying

KEWANEE - Robert L. Heying, 72, of Kewanee, died at 2:10 AM, Thursday, August 30, 2012 in the emergency room at Kewanee Hospital.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, September 4 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Celebrant will be Fr. Michael Hussey.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM, Monday, September 3 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee, with a rosary being recited at 7:00 PM.
Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Robert Heying Memorial Fund.
He was born June 8, 1940 in Alta Vista, IA, the son of Leo and Velda (Webb) Heying.
He married Karen J. Woods on August 11, 1973 in Hampton, IA.
She survives, as well as a son, David Heying of Kewanee, two daughters, Lauren (Robert Bruce) Potter of Acton, CA, and Missy (Troy) Meyer of Oelwein, IA, three grandchildren, Alexis, Luke and Jade, a great-grandson, Felix Cesar Rinella, four brothers, John (Sondra) Heying of Bellavista, AR, Ed (Judy) Heying of Chandler, AZ, Leon (Bev) Heying of Lexington, SC, and Tom Heying of Alta Vista, IA, and two sisters, Lois (Donald) Vorwald of Toledo, IA, and Mary (Gary) Elliott of Charles City, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Robert graduated from St. Williams School in 1957.
Known in the area as “Iowa Bob” and “Bob the Butcher” he had worked as a meat cutter at various stores in Iowa, including IGA, HyVee, Eagles and Piggly Wiggly.
He was also the youngest meat market manager in the midwest.
He had also owned and operated a restaurant and bar in Des Moines.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters.
He enjoyed hunting, carpentry work, fixing older homes and remodeling.
Arthur E. Johnson, Jr.

KEWANEE - Arthur E. Johnson, Jr., 83, of Kewanee, died at 9:43 PM, Thursday, August 30, 2012 at the Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, September 5 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM, Tuesday, September 4 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee.
Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Kewanee Ambulance and Fire Rescue Squad.
He was born September 5, 1928 in Galesburg, the son of Arthur E. and Frances (Lynch) Johnson Sr.
He married Evelyn L. Nixon on September 5, 1953 at Visitation Catholic Church in Kewanee.
She survives, as do five children, John (Pamela) Johnson of St. Louis, MO, and their children, Daniel Robert and Kathleen and great-grandchildren, Connor and Elijah, Joe Johnson of Sheffield, and his children, Nicole, Nathan, Matthew and Ryan, Michael (Sandra) Johnson of East Moline, IL, and their children, Christopher (Tammy), Brian (Lori) and Michael, Jr. (Megan) and great-grandchildren, Heather, Angela, Jayson, McKenna, Brenden and Russell, Mary (Fred) Sellers of Columbia, SC, and their children, Aaron (Abby) and Eric (Erica) and great-grandchildren, Nathan, Kylan, Brenna and Ava Faith and Matthew (Maria) Johnson and their children, Sarah, Madison and Joseph.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother in infancy.
Arthur graduated from Kewanee High School in 1946.
He served his country in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
He was employed as a Layout Supervisor for Kewanee Manufacturing until his retirement in 1995.
He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and the Flemish American Club.
He especially enjoyed his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
