Irene J. Carty
KEWANEE -- Irene J. Carty, 86, of Kewanee, died at 6:10 a.m. Monday, June 3, 2002 at her home.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, at First Christian Church in Kewanee. Brian Giese will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM this evening at the church. Burial will be in Wethersfield Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Building Fund at First Christian Church, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital or to the American Cancer Society. Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee, is in charge of arrangements.
She was born June 7, 1915 in Dodge Center, Minn., the daughter of Louis and Louise (Kremzow) Block. She married Glenn T. Hampton on Feb. 14, 1935 in Kewanee. He preceded her in death in 1951. She then married C. Eldon Carty on Oct. 4, 1956 in Kewanee. He preceded her in death on Oct. 4, 1989.
Surviving are three sons, Glenn (Judy) Hampton of Mesa, Ariz., William (Kay) Hampton of Ft. Meyers, Fla. and James (Debbie) Hampton of Fallbrook, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. John (Judy) Jagers of Kewanee; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Terre (Carole) Reingardt of Denver, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ann Hollcraft of LaFayette, Ind. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, two step-grandsons and a stepson.
She graduated in 1933 from Kewanee High School. She was a member of First Christian Church in Kewanee. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed doing aerobics at the YMCA in Kewanee.
Edith M. Watters
GENESEO -- Edith M. Watters, 88, of Geneseo, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002 at Hammond Henry Hospital Skilled Care, Geneseo.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11 at First Presbyterian Church, Geneseo. The Rev. Dr. David Esche will officiate. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Visitation is from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at Wright Chapel, Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Geneseo. Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals or Galilean Children's Home in Liberty, Ky.
She was born Aug. 11, 1913 in Hedrick, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence and Cora (Meeker) Miller.
She married Dr. Charles Watters on June 26, 1936 in Hedrick. He preceded her in death on Nov.6, 1991.
Surviving are sons, Lyle (Lou) Watters of Hillsdale and Chris (Linda) Watters of Dover, Tenn.; a daughter, Mrs. Jim (Jeannine) Larimer of Rochester, Minn.; grandsons, Loren (Peggy) Watters of East Moline, Adam (Kelly) Watters and Ethan Watters of Dover, Tenn., and Jason Larimer of Orion; granddaughters, Rebecca Watters of Shanghai, China, Katy Watters of Carbondale, Melissa Watters of Murray, Ky., Julia Watters and Lydia Watters of Dover, Tenn., Jodi Larimer of Rochester, Minn., and Lori Warner of Geneseo; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Shultz of Winterset, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents.
She graduated from Hedrick High School in 1930 and attended Penn College in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She graduated from Michael Reese Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago, in 1934 as a registered nurse. She began her nursing career in Chicago.
She moved with her husband to Geneseo, in 1937. She then worked part-time at Hammond Henry Hospital and in her husband's private practice in Geneseo, while raising her family. She was a member of The First Presbyterian Church, Geneseo, and the Circle of Friends at the church, Women of the Moose, Columbian Club, and Central Travel Club. She was a past member of Daughters of the Nile. Her hobbies included playing bridge, traveling, knitting, sewing and cooking.
Gladys G. Yarger
ATKINSON -- Gladys G. Yarger, 75, of rural Atkinson, died at 1:03 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001, at Kewanee Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, at First Christian Church, Kewanee, the Rev. Brian Giese officiating. Visitation is from 5 to 8 this evening at Rux Funeral Home, Kewanee. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Kewanee. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church, of which she was a member; or the Kewanee Hospital Skilled Care Unit.
She was born April 9, 1926, in Oneida, the daughter of Orville and Carolyn (Corbin) McCormack. She married Eugene "Gene" Yarger Oct. 10, 1948, in Kewanee.
He survives, as do four sons, Doug (Sherry) Yarger of Galva, Roger (Theresa) Yarger and Rick (Lisa) Yarger, all of Cambridge, and Todd (Lynn) Yarger of Atkinson; 14 grandchildren; a brother, Mac (Geri) McCormack of Peoria; and four sisters, Lois Allison of Watseka, Ill., Mrs. Milford (Fern) Heller of Geneseo, Vashti Collister of Fairfield Bay, Ark. and Mrs. John (Mabel) Kemp of St. Louis. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son in infancy; a grandson; and a brother, Harold McCormack.
She had been a homemaker, and in her early years worked for Boss Manufacturing, Kewanee, in the office. She was a volunteer in the gift shop at Kewanee Hospital. She enjoyed decorating, crafts, music, movies, games and cards, and especially her family and grandchildren.
Clark R. Larson, Sr.
PRINCETON -- Clark R. Larson, Sr., 87, of Princeton, died at 5 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, at Kewanee Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at Jensen Funeral Home, Princeton, the Rev. Harold Burkey officiating. Visitation is from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Wyanet. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church of Wyanet, of which he was a member; or the Wyanet Rescue Unit.
He was born April 2, 1914, in Wyanet, the son of Paul and Hazel (Golding) Larson. He married Margaret Newcomb Sept. 1, 1939, in Urbana. She preceded him in death Jan. 25, 1999.
Surviving are three sons, Clark R. (Beverly) Larson of Princeton, Ronald (Sharon) Larson of Kewanee, and Eric (Dorothy) Larson of Longview, Texas; two sisters, Fern Marlow of Annandale, Va., and Inez Coffeen of Clemson, S.C.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was educated in Wyanet, and earned a Bachelor's Degree at the University of Illinois. He was a sales representative for DuPont before World War II.
He was an Army major in World War II, fighting in Europe, in Gen. George Patton's Third Army from D-Day through the Battle of the Bulge. He received eight medals, four battle stars and the Bronze Star. Recently he received the Jubilee of Liberty Gold Medal from France, for his efforts in the liberation of France.
After the war, he farmed in the Wyanet area, for 25 years. He was active in his church and was a school board member, Boy Scout leader and 4-H leader. He had been a member of the Bureau County ASCS Committee for 25 years, worked for the Farmers Home Administration and was a board member and president of the Federal Land Bank office in Kewanee. He was a past president of the St. Louis Advisory Committee and charter member and past commander of Wyanet VFW Post 6634. He was a member of the Princeton Elks Lodge, and recently donated an acre of land to the village of Wyanet, to expand their park in memory of his family.
Danny Ray Bumphrey
GIG HARBOUR, Wash. - Danny Ray Bumphrey, 51, of Gig Harbour, and formerly of Galva, died June 1, 2001, at his home.
Cremation rites were accorded, and a memorial service was held in Gig Harbour, on June 11. Upon completion of the wall at Tahoma National Cemetery in Tahoma, Wash., military rites will be accorded and his remains will be placed there. Memorials may be made to an educational fund for his children, the Bumphrey College Fund, c/o Bank of America, 4815 Point Fosdick Drive Northwest, Gig Harbour, Wash. 98335.
He was born Jan. 5, 1950, in Kewanee, the son of Pearl and Pearl Bumphrey. He married Melba Martin in 1983 in Bakersfield, Calif.
She survives, as do daughters, Amber and Danielle, at home; his mother, Pearl Egnor of Galva; sisters JoAnn Kincaid of Las Vegas, Sarah Harding of Lakewood, Calif., Rose Langdon of Oquawka, and Rita Cowdery of Atkinson; a half-brother, Ken Bumphrey of Rockford, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, grandparents, two half-brothers, a half-sister and two sisters.
He moved to California, in 1966 and joined the Navy in 1970 after graduating from Santa Fe Springs High School.
He served nine years on the U.S.S. Kitty Hawk as a mechanic. Following his military service, he was a truck driver until April 2001.
He enjoyed sports and NASCAR.
Jacob William Summy
TOULON - Jacob William Summy, 8, of Toulon, was pronounced dead at 4:45 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2001, at an auto accident near the intersection of Route 40 and Truitt Road, in northern Peoria County.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 12, at DeBolt-Kidd Funeral Home, Toulon, the Rev. David Lynn officiating.
Visitation is from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Toulon Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Toulon Baseball League, Kewanee YMCA or a charity of the donor's choice.
He was born Jan. 21, 1993, in Galesburg, the son of John and Angela (King) Summy.
Surviving are his parents, of Toulon; three sisters, Alizabeth, Amber and Jennifer Summy, all at home; grandparents Mariam and Jim Pletkovich of Neponset, James and Margaret King of Toulon, and Francis and Judy Quagliano of Kewanee; a great-grandmother, Hazel Boswell of Kewanee; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was a second-grader at Toulon Grade School.
He was an excellent student who enjoyed playing chess.
He was a member of the Toulon Baseball League and the Stark County Soccer League and played floor hockey and flag football through the Kewanee YMCA.
He also enjoyed playing Nintendo games, roller blading and riding his bike.
