Veronica M. Luedtke
CAMBRIDGE - Veronica M. Luedtke, 65, of rural Cambridge, died Friday, April 7, 2001, at Illini Hospital, Silvis.
A family prayer service was held today at Myers Chapel, Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, and funeral Mass was held today at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, Cambridge, the Rev. John Burns officiating.
Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo.
Memorials may be made to the Veronica Luedtke Memorial Fund.
She was born June 14, 1935, in Lincoln, Wis., the daughter of Joseph and Lillian (Tlachac) Kinnard.
She married Royal H. Luedtke, Aug. 23, 1958, in Lincoln, Wis.
He survives, as do children, Brad J. (Sandy) Luedtke of Denison, Iowa, Mrs. Dan (Julie) Jackson of Moline, Brenda Anderson of Geneseo, Lori Mortensen of Atkinson, Royal (Marsha) Luedtke of Pleasant Valley, Iowa, and Joseph (Michelle) Luedtke, Mrs. Rod (Michelle) Belville, and Scott Luedtke, all of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; grandchildren, Courtney Luedtke of Austin, Texas, Nicole Luedtke of Iowa City, Amanda Luedtke of Denison, Iowa, Heather, Matt and Katy Anderson of Geneseo, Kristin, Jennifer and Nathan Mortenson and Skylar Flood of Atkinson, and Alex and Samantha Luedtke and Connor Belville of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; siblings Mrs. Emil (Gladys) Vandermause of Gillett, Wis., Mrs. Alvin (Bernice) Gigot of Green Bay, Wis., Vernon (Betty) Kinnard of Casco, Wis., Mrs. Jerry (Lily Mae) Cravillion of Luxemburg, Wis., and Dale (Rosemary) Kinnard of Casco, Wis.; sisters-in-law Mary Jane Kinnard of Luxemburg, Wis. and Mrs. Sam (Rose) LeFevre of Casco, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Harold, Lloyd, Joe and "Baby" Kinnard.
She worked at Hillcrest Home, rural Geneseo, as a dietary aide.
She was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church and the Women of the Moose in Geneseo.
She enjoyed gardening, antiques, walking, traveling and her grandchildren.
Mildred M. Hallas
PROPHETSTOWN -- Mildred M. Hallas, 88, of Prophets Riverview Good Samaritan, Prophetstown, died there Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003.
Graveside inurnment services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8 at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Cuba City, Wis.
No visitation will be held.
Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Annawan, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to her family.
She was born Oct. 9, 1914 in Cuba City, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Kall) Kershek.
She married Jack R. Hallas on July 23, 1962 in Cambridge.
He died on Jan. 24, 1992.
Surviving are sons, Mark (Nancy) Hallas of Mineral and Armon "Jr." Baney; a daughter, Mrs. Jim (Betty) Cox of East Moline; a daughter-in-law, Marge Baney of Annawan; a brother, Andrew (Rita) Kershek of Dubuque, Iowa; a sister, Dorothy Kershek of Lancaster, Wis.; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Her parents; a son, Ronald O. Baney; and a brother, Wilfred Kershek also preceded her in death.
She enjoyed playing bingo and shuffleboard.
She was a member of the Geneseo Senior Citizens Kitchen Band.
Donald Thurwanger
KEWANEE -- Donald E. Thurwanger, 77, of Kewanee, died at 6:40 a.m. Friday, Aug. 16, 2002, at Oakwood Health Care Center, Kewanee.
Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 19, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Chris Haake officiating.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the church.
Rosary will be recited at 5 p.m.
Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery where military rites will be accorded by Kewanee Veterans Council.
Memorials may be made to Henry County Senior Citizen Center, Windmont Park Christmas tree light fund or to a charity of the donor's choice.
He was born July 3, 1925, in Kewanee, the son of Phillip and Sophia (Verschage) Thurwanger.
He married Gladys I. George, April 21, 1945, in San Diego, Calif.
She survives, as well as two sons, Daniel (Cheryl) Thurwanger of Fort Worth, Texas, and Douglas Thurwanger of Wichita, Kan.; two daughters, Patricia (James) VanHyfte of Annawan, and Cheryl (Jim) Powell of Kewanee; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, and a brother, Larry Thurwanger of Kewanee.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He graduated from Kewanee High School in 1943.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during World War II on the U.S.S. Crane destroyer in the Pacific.
He was a pressroom foreman for the Star Courier for 38 years, retiring in 1990.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and was involved with the Windmont Park Christmas tree lighting.
He volunteered as a blue coat at Kewanee Hospital and at the Henry County Senior Citizen Center.
He enjoyed woodworking and carpentry.
Mabel I. Streitmatter
PRINCEVILLE -- Mabel I. Streitmatter, 89, of rural Princeville, died at 12:15 pm Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001, at Methodist Medical Center, Peoria.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at Hammitt-Hott Funeral Home, Princeville.
Craig Martin and Arden Pullen will officiate.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services Friday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Streitmatter Cemetery, rural Princeville.
Memorials may be made to Akron/Princeville Ambulance Service.
Born June 28, 1912, in Stark, the daughter of Charles and Emma (Fritz) Oertley, she married Ralph W. Streitmatter on March 14, 1936, in Peoria.
He died Aug. 11, 2000, in Peoria.
Also preceding her in death were a brother and a sister.
Surviving are a daughter, Susan Streitmatter of Peoria; a brother, Glenn (Ethel) Oertley of Peoria; and several nieces and nephews.
She was a member of the Peoria County Farm Bureau and Stark Congregational Church.
Dan W. Peterson
GALVA - Dan W. Peterson, 70, of London Mills, died at 12:15 a.m. Thursday, April 12, 2001, at Cottage Hospital, Galesburg.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 21, at the United Methodist Church in London Mills, the Rev. Richard Kerr officiating.
Rux Funeral Home, Galva, is in charge of arrangements.
He was born Dec. 26, 1930, in South River, N.J., the son of John and Flora (Bailey) Peterson.
He married Linda Wolford, Aug. 23, 1994.
She preceded him in death Nov. 15, 2000.
Also preceding him in death were his parents and a sister.
Surviving are two brothers, Glen and Robert Peterson, both of Long Island, N.Y.
He retired from Wittek Manufacturing in Galesburg, where he was a mechanical engineer.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of London Mills. He enjoyed fishing.
Mary Margaret Stergulz
PRINCETON -- Mary Margaret Stergulz, 84, of Princeton, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, at 8:15 at her home.
Cremation has been accorded.
Memorial Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, at St. Louis Catholic Church, Princeton, the Rev. James Ramer officiating.
Memorials may be made to St. Louis Catholic Church, of which she was a member; or to Illinois Valley Hospice.
She was born in Spring Valley, the daughter of Bernard and Bernice Matuszcwski.
She married Andrew G. Stergulz.
He preceded her in death.
Surviving are three sons, David (Linda) Stergulz of Las Vegas, Robert Stergulz of Providence, R.I. and John (Ellen) Stergulz of Kankakee; grandchildren, Michael (Hillary) Stergulz, Trisha Stergulz, Kimberly Stergulz and Teri Stergulz; and a great-grandson, Nicholas Stergulz.
She was also preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.
