Florence S. VanVooren
ANNAWAN -- Florence S. VanVooren, 90, of Annawan, died Monday, May 26, 2003 at the Hammond Henry Hospital, Geneseo.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 29, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Annawan.
The Rev. Timothy Sauppe will officiate.
Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Annawan.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at Vandemore Funeral Home, Atkinson, with a rosary at 3:45 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation or the Sacred Heart Church, of which she was a member.
She was born Dec. 16, 1912 in Geneseo, the daughter of Julius and Louise (Bruggeman) Claeys.
She married Fred VanVooren on Feb. 21, 1933 in Geneseo.
He died in 1988.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Willis (Leona) Heaton of Bradford, Mrs. Chuck (Marlene) DeMay of Annawan, and Judy Johnson of Toulon; 10 grandchildren, Gary (Elsie) Heaton, Kevin (Michelle) Heaton, Mrs. Doug (Christine) Dever, Mrs, Scott (Lisa) Efnor, Karen Trobaugh, Mike (Chris) DeMay, Tom DeMay, Terry (Tracy) DeMay, Mrs. Jeff (Jody) Jones and Tom Johnson; 16 great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Stephen Johnson; and two brothers, Charles and Leo Claeys.
Two sisters, Selma Williams and Julia Cauwels, preceded her in death.
She was a homemaker and assisted her husband in farming in rural Annawan, for many years.
She was a member of her church's Altar and Rosary Society and the Catholic Order of Foresters.
She enjoyed crocheting and African violets.
Patricia Ann (Addis) Schedlbauer
KEWANEE -- Patricia Ann (Addis) Schedlbauer, 63, of Mattoon, Ill. and formerly of Kewanee, died at 8:14 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2003 at Foster McGaw Hospital-Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Ill.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 31, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Kewanee, the Rev. Chris Haake officiating.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Friday at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee, with a wake service at 8:30 p.m.
Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery in Kewanee.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Kewanee Hospital Hospice or the Sarah Bush Hospice in Mattoon.
She was born March 15, 1940 in Kewanee, the daughter of Ivan L. and Eva (Fawcett) Kelly.
She married Keith Addis on June 15, 1958 in Kewanee.
He preceded her in death on Sept. 13, 1987.
She then married Lester Schedlbauer on June 7, 1997 in Kewanee.
He preceded her in death on March 22, 2003.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Randy (Gayle) Wallace of Bettendorf, Iowa; three sons, Bryan (Crystal) Addis, John (Vanessa) Addis and Randy (Cindy) Addis, all of Kewanee; two stepsons, Tony Schedlbauer of Beaverton, Ore. and Keith (Renee) Schedlbauer of Edinburg, Ill.; a sister, Mrs. John ("Dot") Johnson of Kewanee; a brother, Ivan R. (Mary Jean) Kelly of Neponset; a brother-in-law, Harold (Donna) Schedlbauer of Zimmerman, Minn.; her first husband's family, George and Shirley Lundeen, Verne and Mary Moore, Letha Wessels, Joe and Donna Fox and Michael and Louise Addis, all of Kewanee, Richard and Pat Addis of Prescott, Ariz., Joe and Kathy Addis of Lewistown, Pa., Paul and Sandie Lucas of Oneida, Glenn and Zona Addis of Montrose, Ill., and Bill and Sharon Bell of Pendleton, Ore.; 12 grandchildren, Jeffrey, Daniel, Ross, Victoria, William, Jennifer, Christopher, Nathan and Kaylee Addis, all of Kewanee, and Michael, Mark and Blake Wallace, all of Bettendorf; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, a brother-in-law, a sister-in-law, a nephew, and two nieces.
She graduated from Kewanee High School for many years, was a committee chairperson for the Kewanee Class of 1957 reunions.
She was employed by the Kewanee Chamber of Commerce as a secretary, and she worked part-time for J.C. Penney Co., as a waitress for Hotel Kewanee, and also at Pinkie's Restaurant.
She also worked for Wethersfield Schools as a unit secretary, bookkeeper and payroll clerk.
She retired after 25 years.
She was a member of the Henry-Stark Educational Office Personnel, of which she was a president for two years, and the Illinois Association of Educational Office Personnel.
She was a notary public for four years, until her retirement.
She had been a member of First United Methodist Church in Kewanee, and was a Sarah Circle chairman.
She later became a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Kewanee, serving as Eucharistic Minister, a member of the R.C.I.A. team and serving on the Pastoral Council committee for four years, and for two of those years, as secretary of that committee.
In 1996, she was the pictorial directory chairman for St. Mary's.
She implemented the St. Mary's Parish newsletter.
She was later a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Mattoon.
She enjoyed sending out correspondence to the people who touched her life, music, bowling and her friends, grandchildren, children, and husband.
Kermit A. Newton
WYOMING -- Kermit A. Newton, 79, of rural Wyoming, died at 2:14 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at Trinity West Medical Center, Rock Island.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 30, at Wyoming Funeral Home.
The Rev. Pamela Smith will officiate.
Visitation will be two hours prior to services at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Snareville Cemetery, rural Wyoming.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Midwest Affiliate or Wyoming Congregational United Church of Christ, of which he was a member.
Born Aug. 1, 1923, in Stark County, the son of Glen and Averil (Leadley) Newton, he married Virginia Graham, March 21, 1948, in Aurora.
She survives, as do three daughters, Mrs. Larry (Pamela) Ingle of Toulon, and Mrs. Phillip (Karen) Koeppel and Mrs. Steve (Terry) Fritz, both of Wyoming; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Audrey Newton of Lincoln, Neb.
His parents and one granddaughter preceded him in death.
He farmed in the Wyoming area, and was a Griffith Seed Corn Dealer for many years.
He also was a local carpenter and woodworker.
He was a member of Wyoming American Legion Post 91, and was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the European Theater.
He was a member of the Stark County Farm Bureau and was on the Wyoming Grade School Board for many years.
Eugenia B. "Jean" Rodal
GENESEO -- Eugenia B. "Jean" Rodal, 78, of Geneseo, died Tuesday, May 27, 2003 at Hammond Henry Hospital, Extended Care, Geneseo.
Funeral Mass will be at 1 p.m. Friday, May 30, at St. Malachy's Catholic Church, Geneseo.
The Rev. Michael Pakula will officiate.
Burial is in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today, at Wright Chapel, Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services, Geneseo, with a Christian wake service at 7:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
She was born on Oct. 8, 1924 in Chicago, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Halecki) Galazin.
She married Pete Rodal on March 3, 1946 in Chicago.
He died May 21, 1990.
Surviving are a son, Dennis (Maryann) Rodal of Venetia, Pa.; a daughter, Mrs. Frank (Marylou) Kaluso of Geneseo; a granddaughter, Mrs. Anthony (Jennifer) Costa of Venetia; a grandson, Ken (Ann) Murzyn of Geneseo; great-grandchildren, Cody, Dustin, Rachel, Brooke and Jordyn; and a sister, Ann Lis of Blue Island, Ill.
Her parents and a sister, Helen Kotas, also preceded her in death.
She worked for Continental Assurance Company in Chicago until her retirement.
Her memberships included St. Malachy's Catholic Church and Circle 6 of their Altar and Rosary Society, the VFW Auxiliary, the Women of the Moose and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She was a volunteer for the Geneseo Senior Citizens for several years.
She was also an avid reader.
Robert C. Schrey
KEWANEE - Robert C. Schrey, 85, of Kewanee, died at 1:08 p.m. Sunday, May 25, 2003 at Proctor Hospital in Peoria.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 29, at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee.
The Rev. K. Bruce Rushing will officiate.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Evergreen Memory Gardens, rural Kewanee.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or to a charity of the donor's choice.
He was born June 30, 1917 in Leavenworth, Kan., the son of Oscar and Gracia (Ruttan) Schrey.
He married Hazel Klavohn on June 27, 1942 in Canton, Mo.
She survives, as do three daughters, Mrs. Don (Sandy) Feeney and Mrs. William (Chris) Clague, both of Kewanee, and Mrs. Bud (Deloris) Peek of Davenport, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, twin grandchildren, a niece and a nephew.
He came to Kewanee, at age 18 from Kansas.
He worked for Walter Gerber at the airport on Route 78 as a truck driver.
He had also owned and operated his own trucking business and had worked for Newman Excavating in Kewanee, as a heavy equipment operator.
He also farmed south of Kewanee.
His hobbies included playing cards, camping, fishing, woodworking, repairing lawnmowers and being mechanically inclined.
He enjoyed his family and friends.
