Richard "Dick" A. Sturtevant
August 20, 1945 - September 13, 2012

KEWANEE - Richard “Dick” A. Sturtevant, 67, of Kewanee, passed away Thursday, September 13, 2012 at St. James Hospital and Health Center in Chicago Heights, IL.
Cremation has been accorded and a memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, September 21 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial to be established.
He was born August 20, 1945 in Kewanee, the son of Richard Edward and Flora Bessie (Cook) Sturtevant.
Survivors include a son, Tony Sturtevant of Rock Island, a daughter, Tami VanDaele of Kewanee, four siblings, Ed Sturtevant, Sr., Ted Sturtevant, Sharon Gustafson and Diana Entas, all of Kewanee, eight grandchildren, Michael, Anthony, Erika, AJ, Collin, Jenny, Dane and Aleah, a great-granddaughter, Finlee, his childhood friend, Joe Polowy and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Shirley Whaley and a brother, George Sturtevant.
Dick graduated from Kewanee High School in 1963.
He had worked as a millwright.
He was an avid Chicago Bears fan who enjoyed being outdoors, riding his motorcycle and drawing.
He loved his dogs and especially spending time with his family and friends.

Manguben Naranbhai Desai
(March 7, 1936 - November 3, 2014)

GALVA - Manguben Naranbhai Desai, 78, of Galva, died at 1:40 PM, Monday, November 3, 2014 at the Kewanee Care Home.
Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 8 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva.
Cremation will be accorded following the services and her ashes will be returned to her native India, at a later date.
She was born March 7, 1936 in India, the daughter of Manjibhai and Raiben Patel.
Survivors include her husband, Naranbhai Desai, a son, three daughters and extended family.
Manguben had been a teacher and her family owns and operates the Super 8 Hotel in Galva.

Alan E. Ericson
May 12, 1936 - September 13, 2012

GALVA - Alan E. Ericson, 76, of Galva, passed away at 11:44 PM, Thursday, September 13, 2012 at OSF St. Mary’s Medical Center in Galesburg.
Funeral services will held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, September 18 at the First United Methodist Church in Galva.
Rev. Ann Champion will officiate.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 PM, Monday, September 17 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva.
Burial will be in Galva Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church in Galva, and the Wiley Museum.
He was born May 12, 1936 in Kewanee, the son of Theodore and Myrtle (Ericson) Ericson.
He married Jean L. Cederberg on March 30, 1957 in Galva.
She survives, as do two sons, David (Connie) Ericson of Galesburg, and Jamie (Diane) Ericson of Oswego, IL, a daughter, Diana (Steve) Larson of Galva, a daughter-in-law, Julie Ericson of Galva, a brother, Harold (Norma) Ericson of Peoria, eight grandchildren, Tim, Greg, Katie and Kimberly Larson, Nathan (Brienne) Ericson, and Emily, Rebecca and Andrew Ericson, a step-grandchild, Chris (Catherine) Bevard and a great-grandchild, Reagan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Mark and a brother, Charles.
Alan graduated from Galva High School in 1954, where he was very active in sports and had held the 100-yard dash record for many years and then attended the University of Illinois.
He did carpentry work for 10 years and then had worked as a postal carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 34 years.
He was an active and life-time member of the First United Methodist Church, and was most recently on the finance committee and also enjoyed the choir for many years and had also held many leadership positions.
He was a Bishop Hill descendant and was last original member and trombone player for the Bishop Hill High Society Band and had been a member of the VASA Lodge and the Galva Historical Society.
He was an avid collector of stamps, antique cars and coins and had started his grandchildren on stamp collections.
He also enjoyed a mean game of Shanghai Cards, traveling, camping and family and grandkids.

Kathleen "Katie" J. Brooks
(December 16, 1936 - November 5, 2014)

GALVA - Kathleen “Katie” J. Brooks, 77, of Galva, passed away at 11:15 PM, Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, November 10 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva.
Pastor Don Reul will officiate.
Visitation will be held from 2:00-4:00 PM, Sunday, November 9 at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Galva Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Knox County Nursing Home.
She was born December 16, 1936 in Jefferson County, IA, the daughter of Clarence and Ruby (Rosenberger) Nichols.
She married Howard Brooks on July 30, 1955 in Glasgow, IA.
He survives, as do three sons, Virgil (Judy) Brooks of Galva, Dan (Stacey) Brooks of Show Low, AZ, and Ken (Charlie) Brooks of Galva, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.
Katie was educated in a two room school in Glasgow, IA, and graduated from Lockridge High School in Lochridge, IA, as their Valedictorian.
She had worked as a waitress and then after her marriage had worked at Lilly Tulip.
She also helped care for an elderly lady, Mrs. King.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Galva, and she thoroughly enjoyed her family.

Merriel L. Tellier
(March 30, 1934 - November 2, 2014)

KEWANEE - Merriel L. Tellier, 80, of Kewanee, died at 8:25 AM, Sunday, November 2, 2014 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, November 6 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee.
Rev. Jerry Rafalko will officiate.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM, Wednesday, November 5 at the funeral home.
Inurnment will be in Evergreen Memory Gardens in rural Kewanee.
A time of fellowship and refreshment will be held at Holy Trinity Polish National Church in Kewanee, following the services.
Memorials may be directed to the Merriel Tellier Memorial Fund.
He was born March 30, 1934 in Kewanee, the son of Charles and Sarah (Gawenda) Tellier.
He married Elsie M. Henry on February 14, 1953 in Kewanee.
She survives, as do four sons, Steve, Bob and Mark Tellier, all of Kewanee, and John “Jay” (Judy) Tellier of Peoria, eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, a sister, Marie Stontz of Kewanee, his dog, Lacey and many other family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Walter Andrewjeski, and two daughters-in-law, Dianne Dailey Tellier and Jill Roginski Tellier.
Merriel graduated from Kewanee High School in 1952.
He worked at Kewanee Boiler as lead pipefitter for 42 years, retiring in 1997.
He was of the Catholic faith.
He enjoyed tinkering, woodworking and gardening and was an avid Illinois sports fan and enjoyed following college basketball teams.
He also enjoyed baseball and had been a baseball coach for a number of years at the Kewanee Park District.
In 2012, he received the Friends of Baseball Award from the Kewanee Baseball Boosters.
