Dorothy E. Stuffelbeam
(February 4, 1924 - September 14, 2012)
KEWANEE - Dorothy E. Stuffelbeam, 88, of Kewanee, passed away at 6:15 PM, Friday, September 14, 2012 at the Hillcrest Home in Geneseo.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, September 18 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee.
Linnea Gustafson will officiate.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Wethersfield Academic Foundation.
She was born February 4, 1924 in Kewanee, the daughter of William C. and Helena (Hertzberg) Albright.
She married Lawrence Stuffelbeam on December 31, 1946 in Kewanee, and he preceded her in death on February 4, 2001.
Survivors include a son, Rocky (Diane) Stuffelbeam of Kewanee, a daughter, Peggy Lewis (Randy Doering) of Bartonville, IL, four grandchildren, Ryan (Amy) Stuffelbeam of Lexington, KY, Lindsey Crawford of Metropolis, IL, Corey Billiet of Kewanee, and Misty Rickard of Peoria, and six great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Louis and Harley Albright and two sisters, Ruth Albright and Lillian McNamee.
Dorothy attended Wethersfield schools for 12 years, graduating with the class of 1942.
She was employed in the classified advertising department of the Star Courier for 33 years.
She was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, having served as secretary of the board.
She volunteered her time to the Henry County Queen Pageant for 28 years, serving as Director for the last 11 of those years.
She also volunteered for Kewanee Hospital and was a member of the Kewanee Hospital Auxiliary, where she had served as the recording secretary.
She was a volunteer for Alternatives for Older Adults and the Remedial Reading Program.
She was a member of the Kewanee Women’s Bowling Association.
She enjoyed reading, golf, bowling, doing crafts and spending time with her family.
She especially loved playing cards with “the girls.”
Shirley A. Dennison
(February 6, 1935 - January 26, 2015)
KEWANEE - Shirley A. Dennison, 78, of Kewanee, died at 2:45 AM, Monday, January 26, 2015 at the Kewanee Care Home.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 PM, Friday, January 30 at Holy Trinity Polish National Catholic Church in Kewanee.
Fr. Jerry Rafalko will officiate.
There will be no visitation.
Burial will be in Evergreen Memory Gardens in rural Kewanee.
Memorials may be directed to the Henry County Humane Society or to Holy Trinity Polish National Catholic Church.
Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee, is in charge of arrangements.
She was born February 6, 1935 in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of Alex and Sophia (Domanski) Apanowicz.
She married Glenn A. Dennison on August 26, 1953 in Pittsburgh, PA, and he preceded her in death on April 5, 2002.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth (Bette) Dennison, Sr. of Kewanee, and Donald Dennison of Minneapolis, MN, four daughters, Deborah Rednour, Constance Weber, Gwen (Fred, Jr.) Murphy and Denise McDaniel, all of Kewanee, a sister, Patty, thirteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Marlene and LaVerne.
Shirley worked in data processing and later in the supply department at the Rock Island Arsenal.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Polish National Catholic Church.
She enjoyed crocheting and her dogs.
Charles H. "Chuck" Witte
(March 8, 1955 - January 24, 2015)
KEWANEE - Charles H. “Chuck” Witte, 59, of Kewanee, died at 12:30 AM, Saturday, January 24, 2015 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, January 29 at Evergreen Memory Gardens in rural Kewanee.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM, Wednesday, January 28 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee.
Memorials may be directed to the Charles Witte Memorial Fund.
There will also be a gathering after 3:00 PM, Saturday, February 7 at the Eighth Street Tap to celebrate his life.
He was born March 8, 1955 in Kewanee, the son of Herman F. and Hazel (Stewart) Witte.
At the age of 2, Chuck’s father passed away and his mother married Arthur “Mick” McMahon, who helped raise him.
He married Pamela “Pam” Paulson on May 16, 1991 in Kewanee.
She survives, as do a step-son, Tony Harding of Kewanee, step-brother, Tom (LaVonne) Witte of Kewanee, and an uncle, Charlie McMahon of Kewanee.
He was preceded in death by his parents and step-father.
Chuck graduated from Kewanee High School in 1973 and from Black Hawk East in 1979, with his Journeyman Carpenters certificate.
He learned the art of carpentry at McMahon & Sons.
He helped build the original Hardee’s, restoring the Bishop Hill Colony Hotel and helped in the construction of the new Kewanee Hospital.
He was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners Local #166.
He was an excellent cook who enjoyed feeding friends at get-togethers.
He also enjoyed music, football, movies, vacationing with friends and his three Jack Russell Terriers.
He also had a 1973 Ford Mustang Mach I which he had restored.
Erma A. Tossell
(May 30, 1921 - September 14, 2012)
]KEWANEE - Erma A. Tossell, 91, of Kewanee, passed away at 8:34 PM, Friday, September 14, 2012 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, September 19 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee.
Rev. Jerry Rafalko will officiate.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
Private burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Kewanee Public Library.
Mrs. Tossell was born on May 30, 1921, in Kewanee, IL, the daughter of William N. and Irene (DeVenney) Richards.
She married James Leo Tossell on November 2, 1940, in Davenport, IA.
She is survived by her children, James (Margie) Tossell, Richard (Janice) Tossell, Bruce Tossell, Connie (Joe) Mangan, Virginia Tossell, and Nancy (Tim) DeLathouwer.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, nine siblings and two nephews.
Erma was educated in Kewanee schools and was employed at Walworth for many years.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed owning and caring for her home.
She especially enjoyed helping and visiting with her children and grandchildren.
She will be remembered by her children and grandchildren as a strong, independent woman who was always there for them when she was needed.
Ethel Marie Smith
August 17, 1931 - September 14, 2012
GALVA - Ethel Marie Smith, 81, of Galva, died at 7:10 PM, Friday, September 14, 2012 at the Kewanee Care Home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, September 18 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Galva.
Pastor Linda Winkelman will officiate.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church.
Burial will be in Galva Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to Messiah Lutheran Church or the Galva Senior Citizen Center.
Rux Funeral Home in Galva, is in charge of arrangements.
She was born on August 17, 1931 in Salem Twp., Knox County, the daughter of Henry and Manila (Chambers) Emken.
She married Harold L. Smith on February 7, 1954 in Henderson Grove, IL.
He survives, as do a son, Roger (Debbie) Smith of Galva, a daughter, Leona Smith of Florida, two grandchildren, Jason and Krystle Smith, four great-grandchildren and two brothers, Ralph Emken of Havana, IL, and Everett Emken of St. David, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister-in-law, Shirley Emken.
Ethel had worked beside her husband for most of her life, starting out farming and raising chickens.
They also sold peaches from Michigan, and then in 1980, started a lawn-mowing service that she was active doing until just about a month ago.
She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and the Galva Senior Citizen Center, where she enjoyed playing bingo.
She also enjoyed making and selling craft items.
