Rev. James W. Hancock

GALVA - Rev. James W. Hancock, 94, of Galva, died at 11:25 AM, Thursday, September 20, 2012 at Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, September 24 at the First United Methodist Church in Galva.
Rev. Ann Champion will officiate.
Visitation will be held from 3:00-5:00 PM, Sunday, September 23 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva.
Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery in Galesburg.
Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church.
He was born January 10, 1918 at his home in Springfield, OH, the son of James Elmer and Martha Ann (Harris) Hancock.
He married Datha McClish in Dupont, OH, and she preceded him in death on June 5, 1979.
He later married Minerva Hanson on April 12, 1980 in Galva.
She survives, as do a son-in-law, Harold Sloan of Cameron, IL, a step-son, Arnold (Doris) Hanson of Galva, a step-daughter, Diane (John) Conner of Galesburg, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Joy, a step-daughter, Carol and three sisters.
Rev. Hancock graduated high school from New Moorefield, OH, in 1936.
He attended God’s Bible School in Cincinnati, OH, Owosso College in Owosso, MI, University of Illinois extension classes in Robinson, IL, University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, OH, and graduated from Greenville College in Greenville, IL, in 1958, with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Education and from Garrett Seminary in Evanston, IL, in 1963, with a Master's of Divinity Degree.
Pastorate James had served Pilgrim Holiness Churches in Onarga, IL, and Oblong, IL, Pilgrim Holiness and Community Church in Cincinnati, OH.
He also served United Methodist Churches in Oconee, Ohlman and Fairview Circuit, Springfield, IL, Canton South Park and Monterey, Stonington and Grove City, IL, Joy, Eliza, New Boston, IL, the First United Methodist Church in Galva, the Champaign First Church and in Spring Bay, IL, retiring in 1983.
During his retirement, he filled in many area pulpits for absences and served 2 and a half years at the Neponset Congregational Church.
James held many church conference positions, such as Leadership Education and Training, Lay Speaker Advisor, Conference Adult Coordinator, Health and Welfare Committee and Program and Expense Fund Committee.
He was always active in whatever community his current church was in.
Most recently his memberships included the Galva Lions Club, Galva Ministerial Association, the First United Methodist of Galva, and the Retired Minsters Association.
Celso N. Guerrero
(April 6, 1953 - February 2, 2015)
KEWANEE - Celso N. Guerrero, 61, of Kewanee, died at 3:43 AM, Monday, February 2, 2015 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 PM, Friday, February 6 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee, where a rosary will be recited at 4:30 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 PM, Saturday, February 7 at Visitation Church, St. John Paul II Parish (St. Mary’s) in Kewanee.
Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery immediately following the mass.
Memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial to be established.
He was born April 6, 1953 in Durango, Mexico, the son of Matias and Baleriana (Navar) Guerrero.
He married Rita Garcia on February 13, 1980 in Kewanee.
She survives, as do his parents of Durango, Mexico, currently of Kewanee, five daughters, Angela (Damon) Reese of Moline, IL, Yolanda (Jesus) Montes of Aurora, IL, Rosena Guerrero of Cedar Falls, IA, Belen (Sergio) Martinez of Kewanee, and Maribel Guerrero of Aurora, IL, his siblings, Julian, Elbira, Miguel, Manuel, Martin, Jose Ramon, Maria De La Cruz, David, Salvador and Maria Elena Guerrero, three grandchildren, Adrien and Alanio Reese and Estrella Montes and many nieces and nephews.
Celso worked as a Maintenance Engineer for Burlington Northern/Santa Fe Railroad for 41 years.
He was planning to retire in June of this year.
In his future retirement he looked forward to grilling steaks for his grandsons and teaching his granddaughter how to fish.
He was a former member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and now currently of Visitation Church, St. John Paul II Parish.
He was a humble, generous and caring man and an extremely hard worker.
He enjoyed dancing, telling stories, being outdoors and gardening.
He loved his family dearly, especially his five daughters and his wife.
All he did was for the betterment of his family.
Those that remember him will treasure his authentic smile and selflessness.
Thomas Michael "Tom" Finin
(December 15, 1956 - January 30, 2015)
KEWANEE - Thomas Michael “Tom” Finin, 58, of Kewanee, died at 7:08 PM, Friday, January 30, 2015 in the emergency room at University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, IA.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM, Wednesday, February 4 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee.
Cremation will be accorded following the visitation and private inurnment will be held at Pleasant View Cemetery in Kewanee, at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the family.
He was born December 15, 1956 in Kewanee, the son of Harold Francis and Esther May (Kinney) Finin.
He married Barbara Jo Grygiel on February 14, 1977 in Kewanee.
She survives, as do two daughters, Andrea (Roy) Orwig and Megan (Rod) Verschage, both of Kewanee, five brothers, Doyle Finin of Princeton, Leo, Jim and Jerry (Linda Jo) Finin, all of Kewanee, and Ron Finin of Indianapolis, IN, a sister, Mary (Al) Wexell of Galva, a sister-in-law, Linda Finin of Kewanee, nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Francis “Harry” Finin.
Tommy graduated from Kewanee High School in 1976.
He was long haul over the road truck driver for MTS Trucking Company out of Michigan.
He enjoyed camping, playing on the computer, family gatherings, hanging out at McDonald’s and Shell Gas Station with the guys and he especially enjoyed his grandchildren.
Francine Warden

TOULON - Francine Warden, 61, of Toulon, died at 9:50 PM, Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at Toulon Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
Cremation has been accorded and a memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, February 2 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee.
Rev. Adrian Johnson, the Pastor of Gaines Chapel A.M.E. Church in East Moline will officiate.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
She was born August 14, 1953 in Kewanee, the daughter of Richard and Emma Jean (Walker) Warden.
Survivors include her son, William (Alicia) Warden of Kansas City, MO, her fiancé, Richard Nicholson of Toulon, her siblings, Rita Cunningham and Jeanette Warden-Atkins, both of East Moline, Annette Chambers of Littleton, CO, David (Sonia) Warden of Lakewood, CO, Richard (Jacquelyn) Warden, Jr. of San Diego, CA, Krystal Davis of Littleton, CO, and Rhonda Warden of East Moline, step-mother, Alma Warden of East Moline, a granddaughter, Jasmine, a host of nieces and nephews and special friends, Cheryl Oliver and Theresa Hawkins, both of Port Byron, IL, and Linda Housh of Toulon.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Francine graduated from United Township High School in East Moline in 1971.
She had worked at John Deere Harvester in East Moline for 10 years and most recently in the cafeteria at United Township High School.
She was a member of Gaines Chapel A.M.E. Church in East Moline.
She thoroughly enjoyed family time and watching Little House on the Prairie, never missing an episode.
Gerald & Dorothy Ren

KEWANEE - Dorothy Mae Ren, 91, of Kewanee, passed away at 5:15 AM, Thursday, July 26, 2012 at the Kewanee Care Home and Gerald “Jerry” H. Ren, 88, a WWII Army veteran of Kewanee, passed away at 8:40 AM, Sunday, September 11, 2005 at Kewanee Hospital.
Cremation has been accorded and a Memorial Mass celebrating both of their lives will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, July 30 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Celebrant will be Rev. Anthony Bernas.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church, with a rosary being recited at 10:30 AM.
Inurnment will be held at Evergreen Memory Gardens, with military rites conducted by the Kewanee Veterans Council.
Memorials may be directed to the Kewanee Care Home, OSF Hospice or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee, is in charge of arrangements.
Dorothy was born March 14, 1921 in Kewanee, the daughter of William B. and Mary J. (Hellman) Erdman.
She married Gerald “Jerry” H. Ren on May 25, 1947 in Kewanee, and he preceded her in death on September 11, 2005.
Survivors include a daughter, Pamela “Pam” (Kevin) Clark of LeRoy, IL, her two sisters, Frances Verschage and Rose McKenna, both of Kewanee, two grandchildren, Denise Clark of LeRoy, IL, and Kamala “Kamey” (Mike) Jones of Saybrook, IL, two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Makayla Jones, both of Saybrook, IL, and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, a son, Douglas Ren, a grandson, Shawn Clark, four brothers and two sisters.
Dorothy had worked as head checker at Kroger Grocery Store.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
She and her husband enjoyed traveling and had traveled extensively throughout the U.S., and she thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
