John F. Simnick, a four-year resident of Frankfort; formerly 38 years in Dolton, died Monday, Sept. 21, at Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Joliet.
A 10 a.m. Mass will be said today at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Frankfort, with the Rev. Matthias Hoffmann officiating. Interment will be in Assumption Cemetery, Glenwood.
Mr. Simnick was born July 16, 1928, in Chicago. He was retired as an operating engineer for Lotz Excavating in Riverdale; a member of Operating Engineers Union Local 150; St. Anthony Catholic Church; and a former member of Queen of Apostles Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Muriel (nee Wordelmann); a daughter, Mary (Dale) Berger of Cincinnati, Ohio; three sons, Mike (Sheila) of Manhattan, Steve (Cathy) of Frankfort and Dave (Laura) of Osceola, Ind.; a brother, Donald (Marion) of Orland Hills; and seven grandchildren.

August "Augie" F. Strueck Jr., a 16-year resident of Orland Park, formerly of Bolingbrook and Evergreen Park, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, at Alden Care Center, Orland Park.
A memorial Mass will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael Catholic Church, Orland Park.
Mr. Strueck was born Oct. 27, 1925, in Chicago. He was an office manager for Teledyne Vasco Steel Co., Chicago; a member of the St. Michael Adult Ensemble and Bell Choirs; and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Joan (nee Misiak); four daughters, Susan (Michael) Burke of Homer Township, Mary (Bruno) Para of Lisle, Lisa (James) O'Connell of Chicago and Jenifer (Thomas) Tarach of Brookfield; a sister, Rose Mary Blanchet of Chicago; and nine grandchildren.

Mr. Caliendo was born July 25, 1920, in Chicago. He received a law degree from DePaul University; was retired as an arbitrator for the Illinois Industrial Commission in December 1997; certified to the Supreme Court and the Appellate Courts; a member of the Illinois Bar Association and the Justinian Lawyers; past president of the Roseland Kiwanis Club; a graduate of Hyde Park High School; and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, receiving the Purple Heart.
He is survived by his wife, Beatrice (Gaetano); a daughter, Mary Jo (Robert) Schuessler of Buffalo, N.Y.; two sons, Leo (Charlene) of Bolingbrook and Angelo Jr. (Clarice) of St. Paul, Minn.; two brothers, Joseph (Billy) of Orland Park and Dr. Salvatore Caliendo; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

His wife, Sally, died in 1990.
