Dorothy M. Allen, 84, of Wheaton, formerly of Lombard, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, at the DuPage Convalescent Center in Wheaton.
Visitation and funeral services will be held today, Feb. 23, at the Leonard Memorial Home Ltd., 565 Duane St., Glen Ellyn, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Lesher officiating. Interment is at Elm Lawn Cemetery in Elmhurst.
Mrs. Allen was the mother of Margo Horan and Sandra (Richard) Ballinger, grandmother of five, and great-grandmother of six. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Bill Horan.
Mrs. Allen was a homemaker.
Lowell Brooks
Lowell H. Brooks, 84, of Manheim, Pa., formerly of Lombard, died Friday, Feb. 11, at Pleasant View Retirement Community in Manheim.
Mr. Brooks was the father of Beth and Barry (Carol), and grandfather of two. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; and daughter, Lynn Marie.
Mr. Brooks was a resident of Lombard for 40 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served as an officer in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He helped manage the family grocery store in Britt, Iowa, following the war, and had worked for over 30 years as a sales manager for Container Corp. of America.

Alberta M. Chlapecka, nee Hildebrandt, 86, of Beacon Hill in Lombard, died Thursday, Feb. 10, at Good Samaritan Hospital.

Mrs. Chlapecka was the mother of Martin (Sandra), grandmother of three, great-grandmother of three, and sister-in-law of Helen (Ralph) Miller. She was preceded in death by her husband, George; brother, Henry Hildebrandt; and sisters- and brothers-in-law, Martin (Matilda) Chalpeck, Sue (George) Fivek, Betty (George) Sklenicka, Lillian (Edward) Nemeth, Julia (Edward) Azzarello and Lorraine Chalpeck.

Mrs. Courtney was the wife of Charles; mother of Kelly of Lombard and Jack of Lombard; daughter of Blanche Pisciotto; sister of Suzanne (Bruce) Blecha, Tony (Marianne) Pisciotto, Jackie (Walter) Bombka and John Pisciotto; and relative and friend to many, including her dog, Scruffy, and cat, Guiness. She was preceded in death by her father, Anthony Pisciotto.
Mrs. Courtney was a former student of Blackburn College in Carlinville, Ill. She loved her garden and growing plants, vegetables and flowers; enjoyed her country kitchen and swimming in her pool; enjoyed antiques and garage sales; and loved the band Jethro Tull.
Phyllis Dahm
Phyllis Dahm, 82, died Monday, Feb. 7, at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville, Ill.
A memorial visitation will be held Saturday, Feb. 26, at Hanks-Gubser Funeral Home in Hardin.
Mrs. Dahm was the mother of David and Dennis, and grandmother of three. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert M.; parents, Henry and Sara E. Shry; and two brothers and two sisters.

Joseph J. Elwood, 80, of White Bear Lake, Minn., formerly of Villa Park and Chicago, died Tuesday, Feb. 15.

Mr. Elwood was the father of Mary Kathleen (Jerry) Welle, grandfather of three, brother of Mary Elwood and Kay Skalman, and uncle of many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; parents, Margaret and Joseph; and sister, Norine Piermattei.
Mr. Elwood was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, having served during World War II. He was known for his wit and Irish charm.

Mr. Grell was the husband of Saundra G.; father of Brenda (Steve) Street, Bryan (Sherrie), Brandon (Heidi) and Bethann (Patrick) Arends; grandfather of nine; great-grandfather of one; brother of Marilyn (Bill) Rogis, Janice Schumacher, Jackie (Fred) Mussman, Connie Grell, Linda (Dave) Vogal, Alfred (Donita) Grell, Robert (Irene) Grell, Jim (Marcia) Grell, Steve (Diane) Grell, Robert (Joan) Grell and David (Betty) Grell; brother-in-law of Dave Junker and Art Snodgrass; and uncle of many nieces and nephews. Mr. Grell was a 1960 graduate of Clinton High School, and had worked for Jewel food stores for over 25 years as a store manager in Davenport and Betendorf, Iowa. He moved to Lombard in 1999 and had worked as a janitor at Jackson Middle School in Villa Park.

Mrs. Harper was the mother of Donald (Stephen Mark Dorough) and Diannalyn (William) Buescher of Lombard, and sister-in-law of Margo Smith. She was preceded in death by her brother, Bud Smith.
Mrs. Harper was a resident of Lombard for three years and was formerly of Chicago. She grew up in Lisle, attended grade school there, and was a 1949 graduate of Downers Grove South High School. Mrs. Harper had retired in 1995 after working as a receptionist with Stone Container Corp. in Chicago.

Elaine Ruth John, 87, of Suttons Bay, Mich., died Monday, Feb. 14.

Mrs. John was the mother of Wendy (Bill) Morris, Diane (Lee) Arcure, Dallas and Christopher (Heather); grandmother of four; sister of Phyllis (Edward) Hedlund and James VanderPloeg; and sister-in-law of Eleanor Waterhouse. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas B.; parents, Henry and Theresa VanderPloeg; brothers, Henry Jr. and Donald; and sister, Eunice Poley.
Mrs. John was born in Chicago. She had worked as an office manager for 25 years, and was a longstanding member of the First Congregational Church of Lombard. She loved to play classical music on the piano; and loved creativity, especially in her sewing.

Clara Lawson
Clara A. Lawson, nee Case, 103, of Villa Park, died Monday, Feb. 14, in Villa Park.

Mrs. Lawson was the mother of Darlene Degenhardt, Claire Palmer, and Charles E.; grandmother of 11; great-grandmother of 23; great-great-grandmother of seven; and aunt and great-aunt of many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles L.; siblings, John Case, Catherine Lubbe, Frances Bales, Constance Stone and Lucille Kohley; and son-in-law, Robert Degenhardt.
Mrs. Lawson was born in York Center, and raised on the family farm, located at the site of Willowbrook High School and a shopping center in Villa Park. She taught school in a one-room schoolhouse, worked in retail sales at Marshall Fields in Chicago, at the dime store in Villa Park, and at the Villa Park A & P grocery store.
Included among her accomplishments are helping create Second Time Around resale shop, the York Township Senior Center and township office building, a mini bus service for Brandywine residents; and being responsible for the provision by Harris Bank of a Brandywine sidewalk to Harris Bank and other retail businesses.
Mrs. Lawson also served for decades as an election judge and was legislation chairwoman of Brandywine AARP; was named Oakbrook Terrace Community Park District Senior Citizen of the Year, 1974-75; was awarded a special citation from AARP for outstanding service to her community; and was given a Certificate of Lifetime Achievement from the Illinois Department on Aging.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Russell; grandparents, Frank and Leslie Kramer and James and Tressa Russell; great-aunt, Iola Snyder; and mother-in-law, Mary Flanke.
Mr. Russell was born in Elmhurst, attended St. Pius X, Jackson Junior High School and Willowbrook High School, and graduated from St. John's Military Academy in 1991. He was a 1996 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Stout, and worked as a general manager for Baha Fresh and Wendy's International. He enjoyed music and the Chicago Cubs.

Mrs. Teteridge was a resident of Lexington Square in Lombard for over seven years. She had retired in 1977 from Western Electric, where she had worked as an inspection supervisor.

Mr. Grady was a resident of Lombard since 2001, and had lived in Taunton, Mass., in the 1960s and 1970s. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Signal Corps, having served during World War II; and had worked as a cutlery salesman.
Alma Hebenstreit
Alma E. Hebenstreit, nee Kappelgard, 104, of Villa Park, died Tuesday, March 15, in Villa Park.

Mrs. Hebenstreit was the mother of Richard (Honor), mother-in-law of Marian Hebenstreit, grandmother of six, great-grandmother of eight, great-great-grandmother of five, and companion of Myrna Rew. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; and son, Harold.
Mrs. Hebenstreit was born in Denmark, and was an 81-year resident of Villa Park. She was a life member of the Villa Park Garden Club and a member of the Villa Park Woman's Club, a member of the Church of Christ Scientist, volunteered for many years at the Christian Science Reading Room, and participated in establishing the Villa Park Public Library. She was known as a gifted homemaker who loved knitting, crocheting, weaving, flower arranging and baking.

Mrs. Rader was a resident of Lombard for 40 years. She had attended Schiller Grammar School and Waller High School in Chicago, and retired after working for Illinois Bell. She was a member of St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in Lombard and was active in several Bible studies at church.

William Weith
William F. Weith, 84, of Lombard, died Tuesday, March 15, at Good Samaritan Hospital.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 19, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was at Forest Hill Cemetery in Glen Ellyn.
Mr. Weith was the husband of Alexa; father of Michael (Yvonne) Lanners of Lombard, Bill (Carol) Weith and Winnie (Bob) LaChapelle of Lombard; and grandfather of five. He was preceded in death by his brother, Leroy (the late Margaret); and two young sisters.
Mr. Weith was a resident of Lombard since 1958. During World War II, he served in the 8th Air Force as one of the Yoxford Boys, where he was nicknamed "Wizard" for his uncanny ability to repair his squadron's more difficult aircraft challenges and help keep the forces in the air.
Mr. Weith retired from Al Piemonte Ford in 1982 after working 15 years as an auto mechanic. A lifelong flying enthusiast, he was a private pilot and member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, volunteering to assist with the restoration of World War II aircraft at their Oshkosh, Wis., museum.

Catherine E. Wolatz, nee Springer, 85, of Lombard, died Monday, March 21, in Warrenville.
Visitation will be today, March 23, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 24, at the funeral home. Interment is private.
Mrs. Wolatz was the mother of Michael (Ellen) of Lombard, Linda (Wilbur) Christman, Ardith (George) Paulus and Cheryl (Andrew) Christ; grandmother of seven; and great-grandmother of 11. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter E.
Mrs. Wolatz was a resident of Lombard since 1954. She retired in 1984 after working as a teacher at Ms. Roberts Beauty School in Villa Park. She had attended Faith Methodist Church in Lombard for many years, and was a past active member of the Villa Park VFW Post #2801 Auxiliary.
