W. Leroy Moffett
W. Leroy Moffett, 66, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002 at McDonough District Hospital. He was born Aug. 22, 1935 in Natchez, Mississippi. He married Ardelle Cormaney on Aug. 5, 1961. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, David of Industry; Richard of Council Bluffs, IA and Garret of Macomb; and one daughter, Chimene (and husband Don) Flynn of Petersburg, IL. Mr. Moffett is also survived by his brother Robert, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Wesley.
Mr. Moffett was a graduate of the University of Mississippi and the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan. He taught at the Westchester County Art Center in White Plains, NY; Kent State University and the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee. He was a professor emeritus in the WIU art department for 32 years before retiring in 1995. He took first place in photography at the Macomb Art in the Park competition in 2001. He was also a member and deacon of the First Presbyterian Church of Macomb.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 19 at the First Presbyterian Church of Macomb. He was interred at Rosehill Cemetery in Petersburg, IL. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Macomb.
LaVonne A. Straub
LaVonne A. Straub, 65, of 139 Holden Drive in Macomb died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002 at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb. Ms. Straub was an economics professor at WIU. Services were held Feb. 2. Memorial contributions can be made to the McDonough County Animal Shelter.
Charles W. 'Bud' Meline
Charles W. "Bud" Meline, 72, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002 at Sunset Manor in Canton, IL. He was born Jan. 16, 1930 in Lancaster, MN. He married Jean Witmer in Grand Forks, ND. She survives.
He is also survived by one son, David, and wife Marilyn, of Grand Junction, CO; one daughter-in-law, Diane Allen Meline of Macomb; four grandchildren, Sarah and Matthew Meline of Grand Junction and Kelsey and Erin Meline of Macomb and one sister Lois, and husband William Sandberg of Wabasha, MN. He was preceded in death by one son Robert Meline and one sister Phyllis Peterson.
Mr. Meline graduated from Moorhead State University in Moorhead, MN and earned advanced degrees from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. He taught high school from 1953-1958 in Fargo ND. He served on the WIU faculty from 1958-1987 when he retired from the Department of Industrial Education and Technology. He was of the Lutheran faith but attended St. George's Episcopal Church. Mr. Meline also served in the U.S. Army in Germany.
Services were held Feb. 6 at St. George's Episcopal Church. Memorials can be made to the Central Illinois Chapter of the Alzheimers Association, the WIU Department of Engineering Technology-Graphic Arts Program or a charity of the donor's choice.
Services Held For Zinga
Graveside services were held July 13, 2001 at Oakwood Cemetery for Norma June "Peggy" Zinga, of Macomb, who died July 10 at the University of Iowa Hospitals after a short illness.
Zinga was chief clerk of the periodicals department of the Leslie Malpass Library at Western. She had been a member of the library staff for 16 years. She was from Adair and moved to Macomb and attended Western.
