Roland U. Rogers
CAMBRIA -- Roland U. Rogers, 76, of Blairsville, died Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 25, 2004, at Riggin- Pillatsch Funeral Home in Carterville. Burial will be in the Blairsville Cemetery. Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the Church of the Nazarene in Murphysboro. Roland was born Jan. 2, 1928, in Chicago, to Floyd and Frieda (Scheonamann) Rogers. He married Dorothy Byrley on Feb. 21, 1946, in Chicago. He is survived by his wife Dorothy of Cambria; son and daughter-in-law, Roland F. and Peggy Rogers of Carterville; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Donald Kerley of Cambria; five grandchildren, Jane Acevedo of Chicago, Sherri Smith of Joliet, Roland John Rogers of Chicago, Michelle Krcmar of Cambria, and Michael Krcmar of Cambria; three great-grandchildren, Justin Smith and Jessica Smith both of Joliet, and Natasha Acevedo of Chicago. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and one brother. Roland retired after 39 years from Hayes Distributing in Chicago, a distributor for Miller Brewing Company, where he worked as a truck driver. After his retirement he served as crossing guard at the Hurst-Bush school and presently was the school bus coordinator at the Herrin elementary, where he made sure that the kids got on the right bus. He was a member of the teamster local in Chicago. He honorably served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Murphysboro. Roland enjoyed going fishing, drawing and woodworking.

Eric and Rebecca Olson
MARION -- Eric William Olson, 39, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003, and Rebecca Sue DeNeal Olson, 45, and died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at their home in Marion. A graveside memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Blockhouse Cemetery, nine miles southeast of Harrisburg off of Illinois 34 near Rudement. Reed Funeral Chapel Inc., is in charge of arrangements.

Bob Talkington
HARRISBURG -- Bob Talkington, 67, died Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia. Burial will be in the Rhine Cemetery in Raleigh. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Mary Coffman
ANNA -- Mary Ellen Coffman, 83, died at 7:50 a.m. Wednesday, June 23, 2004, at home. Arrangements are incomplete at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna.

Lucille Thornton
ENERGY -- Lucille Thornton, 88, of Energy, died at 11:35 p.m. Saturday, June 19, 2004, in Parkway Manor in Marion. Lucille was born May 26, 1916, in Marion to Eldon P. and Lydia Candis (Norman) Odum. She married John Thornton on April 18, 1951, in Arkansas. He survives of Energy. Mrs. Thornton, along with her husband, formerly owned and operated Thornton's Market in Herrin prior to their retirement. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Energy. Survivors include her husband, John Thornton of Energy; son and daughter-in-law, Johnie L. and Marty Thornton of Herrin; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Bob Stricklin of Marion; son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Joyce Watson of Herrin; eight grandchildren; Russell and Jennifer Watson Jr. of Herrin, Steve and Kathy Watson of Herrin, Sheree Watson of Indiana, Debra and Steve Dingrando of Marion, John Allen and Denise Murry Jr. of Energy, Bryan and Amy Thornton of Columbus, Ohio, Chris Thornton of Herrin and Angela Thornton of Herrin; 10 great-grandchildren; niece, Leana Odum of Marion; and nephew, Raymond McCormick of Marion. Her parents; first husband; Russell Watson, infant daughter; Delores Mae, four sisters and three brothers preceded her in death. Services were Wednesday in Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin, with the Rev. Don Colson officiating. Entombment was in Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation was Tuesday in the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Clara Ferguson
DU QUOIN -- Clara G. Ferguson, 80, died at 9:20 p.m. Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at the Jackson County Rehab and Care Center in Murphysboro. Arrangements are incomplete at Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Larry Meyers
JOPPA -- Larry Joe Meyers, 54, died at 8:10 p.m. Tuesday at Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis. Arrangements are incomplete at Wilson's Funeral Home in Karnak.

Dee Fozzard
CARTERVILLE -- Delores 'Dee' Fozzard, died Friday, February 28, 2003, at home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville, with Dr. Dwayne Sheumaker officiating. Riggin-Pillatsch Funeral Home in Carterville is in charge of arrangements.

Juanita A. Sloan
BENTON -- Juanita A. (Holmes) Fuson Sloan, 86, of Benton, died at 12:10 p.m. Wednesday, June 23, 2004, in Severin Nursing Home in Benton. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 26, 2004, at Immanuel Baptist Church, Benton, with Pastor Roger Ellsworth officiating. Burial will be in the Big Ridge Cemetery in HarrisburG. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church. Memorial donations may be made to the Baptist Children's Home in Carmi and will be accepted at the church. Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Sloan was born Sept. 14, 1917, in Crawford, the daughter of Paul A. and Blenda (Newlin) Holmes. She was married to Robert C. Fuson Jr., who preceded her in death on Sept. 20, 1975, and later married Bluford Sloan, who preceded her in death in 1982. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Benton. She worked at the Southern Illinois University Carbondale library in the serial/cataloging department. She is survived by two sons, Robert and wife, Jody Fuson of Benton and William D. and wife, June Fuson of Carbondale; a daughter, Blenda Cleath of Pittsburgh; six grandchildren, Chad Fuson of Carbondale, Carrie Cox of Benton, Ben Fuson of Carbondale, Casey Fuson of Carbondale, Lars Cleath of Pittsburgh, and Nels Cleath, of Pittsburgh; and foster grandchild, Jack Knapper of Pittsburgh; three great-grandchildren, Kiley, Korben and Korinn Cox. Mrs. Sloan was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; brothers, Russell Holmes, Lawrence Holmes, and sister, Ruby Fuson.
