Fran Stewart
MARION -- Fran Stewart, 59, passed away at 7:51 a.m. Monday, June 3, 2002, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 6, 2002, at the Meredith- Blue Funeral Home in Marion, with Dr. Bob Wagner officiating. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Memorials may be made to Marion United Way or Marion Partnership for Youth. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Mrs. Stewart was born on November 20, 1942, in Vienna to Daniel and Christine (McKenzie) Mathis. She married Jimmy Stewart on June 2, 1962 in Creal Springs and he survives. Other survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Scarlett and Mike Phillips of Marion; daughter and son-in-law, Holly and Mike Boyd of Marion; daughter and son-in-law, Misty and Robert Boyd of Marion; daughter, Gabriele Stewart of Oak Park; grandchildren, Stewart Michael Phillips, Hannah and Grace Boyd and Molly Barclay; her mother, Christine Pound of Herrin; and sisters and brother-in-law, Katie and Roy Almaroad of Amarillo, Texas, Hope Richardson of Mount Vernon and Joy Woods of Marion. She was preceded in death by her father. Fran was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Marion, where she was an active member of "The Red Hat Society. " Fran and Jimmy taught the Special Ministries Sunday School Class at Second Baptist Church for almost 20 years. She had worked for the past eight years as a noontime supervisor at Jefferson Elementary School in Marion. She was a member of the Marion Recreation Board and a member of the Marion Partnership for Youth. She was a past member of the Marion United Way and Marion Youth Baseball and Softball Board.
Ruth Rains
MURPHYSBORO -- Ruth Rains, 89, died at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, June 2, 2002, in her home. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at Pettett Funeral Home in Murphysboro, with the Rev. Donald Grammer officiating. Burial will be in Tower Grove Cemetery in Murphysboro. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today and Wednesday until the time of services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Southern Illinois. She was born Feb. 5, 1913, in Union County the daughter of Jake and Elizabeth (VanGilder) Rendleman. She married William C. Rains on Aug. 31, 1927, in Murphysboro. He preceded her in death on May 31, 1973. Mrs. Rains had worked for 17 years as a cook for Unit School District No. 186 in Murphysboro. She attended the Mount Carbon Christian Church and the Fairview Christian Church, both in Murphysboro. She is survived by four sons, John Rains of Marion, Jim Rains of Alto Pass, Roger Rains of Murphysboro and William Rains of West Palm Beach, Fla. ; five daughters, Wilma Rains of Murphysboro, Faye Ebersohl of Vergennes, Patricia Ellis and Shirley Parrish, both of Murphysboro and Hilda Leslie of De Soto; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Agnes Sminchack of West Frankfort, Mary Huff of Texas and Teresa Fuller of Alto Pass. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, two great-grandchildren, two sisters, three brothers and her parents.

WEST FRANKFORT -- Lorene Webb, 89, died at 9:30 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2002, in Fountain's Health Care in Marion. Arrangements are incomplete at the Union Funeral Home.
Kenneth Ferrell
HERRIN -- Kenneth Ferrell, 91, died at 5:55 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2002, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale. Mr. Ferrell was the owner and operator of Ferrell's Recycling in Herrin, dealing with scrap metal and coaL. He was a member of the Victory Baptist Church in Carterville and Busby Chapel in Goreville. He was born May 23, 1911, in Murphysboro to Marion Francis and Martha (Fly) FerrelL. He first married Mildred Warren. She preceded him in death on May 24, 1993. He then married Sally A. Peters on Feb. 23, 1997, at Busby Chapel Church in Goreville. She survives of Herrin. Also surviving are three children and their spouses, Dolores and Roy Brockman of St. Louis, Vernon and Treva Ferrell of Yuma, Ariz., Marion F. and Melody Ferrell of South Lyon, Mich. ; three step children and their spouses, John and Catherine Gray of Newport News, Va., Kelly and Jim Mauney of Garrettsville, Ohio and Tony Gray of Aurora; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, parents and his brothers and sisters. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin, with Rev. Rick Dawson officiating. Interment will be in Herrin City Cemetery in Herrin. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family and will be accepted at the funeral home.
Robert F. High
MARION -- Robert F. High, 76, of Sebring, Fla., formerly of Marion and Cobden, died at 7:10 a.m. Sunday, June 2, 2002, in the Lake Placid Health Care Center in Lake Placid, Fla. He was born July 9, 1925, in Cobden, the son of Albert and Ethel (Hall) High. He married Margaret Ann Alden May 17, 1946, in Cobden. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Ann High of Sebring, Fla. ; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ron and Kay High and their children, Hillary and Brittany, of Marion and Dr. Roger and Connie High and their son, Ryan, of Marion; a daughter and son-in-law, a daughter and son-in-law, Cathy A. and George Soldner and their sons, Matthew, Andrew and Collin, of Marion; four sisters, Frances Anderson of Carterville, Jean Harrison of Marion, Alberta Gearhart of Peotone and Shirley Morrison of Carrier Mills. Bob was a veteran of the United States Air Force in World War II, a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Marion, a mason, a member of the Sebring, Fla., Municipal Golf Association and was a retired maintenance manager for Olin Chemical Corporation in Marion. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2002, at the First Presbyterian Church in Marion, with the Rev. Dan Whitfield officiating. Burial will be at 3:45 p.m. Saturday at the Anna City Cemetery. Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Saturday at the church. Lutz & Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Marion.

OZARK -- Jerry A. Koziol, 57, of Ozark, formerly of Hammond, Ind., died at 11:10 a.m. Sunday, June 2, 2002, in his home. Jerry was born May 28, 1945, in Hammond, Ind., the son of Joseph Koziol and Helen (Filas) KozioL. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at the Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Burial will be in the Wise-Robinson Cemetery, near Ozark. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today, June 4, 2002, at the funeral home, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Jerry Koziol family, c/o Bailey Funeral Home, P. O. Robert 'Bob' Cook
THOMPSONVILLE -- Robert "Bob" Cook, 64, died at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, June 2, 2002, in Franklin County Hospital in Benton. Mr. Cook was born March 19, 1938, in Cape Girardeau, Mo., to Dollie Mae (Skelton) and Leo Maurice Cook. He married Deloris Hill in 1959 at Mitchell, IlL. Mr. Cook was the caretaker of the West Frankfort New City Lake. He was a member of AF & AM Akin Lodge No. 749 in Thompsonville and an honorary member of AF & AM Frankfort Lodge No. 567 in West Frankfort. Mr. Cook was an avid fisherman always sharing his catch with friends and neighbors. Funeral services for Mr. Cook will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at the Stone Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. H. A. Hilderbrand officiating. Burial will follow in the East Fork Cemetery in West Frankfort. Friends of the Bob Cook family may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today, June 4, 2002, at the funeral home. Masonic services will be held at 7 p.m. by AF & AM Akin Lodge No. 749. Mr. Cook is survived by his wife Deloris; brother, Clifford E. Cook of Nederland, Texas; a sister, Lillian E. Hoenig of Mount Olive; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Cook is preceded in death by his parents, a son, Raymond, brothers, George and Leo and a sister, Anna Craft.
Robert G. Bloodworth
CARBONDALE -- Robert G. "Bob" Bloodworth, 74, died Friday, May 24, at the San Diego Hospice Hospital in San Diego, CaliF. He was born May 10, 1928, in Carbondale, the son of Herman and Sarah McDaniel Bloodworth. He was united in marriage to Doris Penrod on Dec. 17, 1954, in Murphysboro. He was a retired Navy veteran of the Korean and Viet Nam era. After his military service he was the Chief Purchasing Agent for Travelodge Motel Corporation office in San Diego for nearly 20 years. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association and St. John's Lutheran Church in El Cajon. Survivors include his wife Doris of El Cajon and one son Robert D. Bloodworth of El Cajon. He was preceded in death by a son Timothy Lynn Bloodworth in 1989. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, June 4, 2002, in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park with Rev. Robin Lyons officiating. Military Rites will be accorded by the American Legion, VFW and Disabled Veterans Organizations. There will be a visitation at the graveside after 1 p.m. today, June 4. Crain Funeral Home Pleasant Grove Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Murrell Ray Mifflin
PINCKNEYVILLE -- Murrell Ray Mifflin, 94, died at 11:25 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2002, in Pinckneyville Community HospitaL. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. today, June 4, 2002, at the Old Du Quoin Cemetery, with the Rev. Bob Dickerson officiating. Those wishing to attend the services should go directly to the cemetery. Neal-McClure Funeral Home in Du Quoin is in charge of arrangements. Murrell was born June 12, 1907, in Johnston City the son of Amos and Sarah (Pierson) Mifflin. He was united in marriage to Pauline Mary Flowers on Aug. 27, 1927, at Jonesboro. He worked as a coal miner for over 30 years. He was a member of UMWA. He is survived by his wife, Pauline Mifflin of Pinckneyville; a son, Donald Ray Mifflin of Du Quoin; a daughter, Murline Mifflin of Pinckneyville; a brother, Raymond Mifflin of Washington; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and three brothers.
