Edna Cress
CHESTER -- Edna A. Cress, 88, died at 8:05 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2002 in Memorial Hospital in Chester. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home in Chester, with Rev. Marvin "Bud" Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. today and from 7:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to The Cohen House. Mrs. Cress was a retired insurance agent. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Chester. She was a member of the Chester Chamber of Commerce and was awarded Chester Citizen of the Year. She was also a member of the V. F. W. Auxiliary, Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Cohen House Restoration Committee. She was Head of the Bi-Centennial Committee in 1976 and a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was born Jan. 26, 1914 in Nashville to Joseph and Sibbie (Goreman) Aspley. They preceded her in death. Survivors include one son, Tom (Dody) Cress of Chester; two sisters, Doris Schroeder and Lucille Wittenbrink, both of Chester; four grandchildren, Bridget Straedey of Jackson, Mo., Skip Cress of St. Louis, Mo., Heidi Wendell of Troy, Mich., and Tommy Cress of Fairview Heights; and nine great grandchildren. One brother and four sisters preceded her in death.

Theodore Mayer
COULTERVILLE -- Theodore John "Tater" Mayer, 43, died Friday, May 31, 2002 in his home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Trinity Lutheran Church in Conant, with Pastor Russ Helbig officiating. Burial will be in Mueller Hill Cemetery in Pinckneyville. Friends may call from 5 until 9 p.m. Monday and from 8 until 10:15 a.m. Tuesday at Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville. Memorials may be made to the Pinckneyville City Park Playground Fund or the Trinity Lutheran Building Project. Mr. Mayer was a self-employed farmer and worked for Consolidated Coal Company, Burning Star #4 in Cutler for 18 years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Conant and a member of the UMWA. He was born July 23, 1958 in Pinckneyville to Theodore E. and Emma (Laubenthal) Mayer. His father preceded him in death. He was married to Judy Ruebke Aug. 21, 1982 in Sparta. She survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Katelyn; one sister, Emma "E. J. " Steele and her husband, Mark, and their daughter Nikki; two aunts, Freda (Mayer) Luker and her husband, Hank, of Michigan and Edie (Mayer) Verberder and her husband, Dave, of St. Louis, Mo. Two uncles, Fred and Carl, preceded him in death.

ANNA -- Louise Jacobson, 74, died Saturday, June 1, 2002 in Union County HospitaL. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Hileman and Parr Funeral Services in Jonesboro.

MARION -- Sharon Goode, 51, died at 6:51 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2002 in Marion Memorial HospitaL. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home.

Arthur Lewis
LAKE OF EGYPT -- Arthur Lewis, 64, died at 2:50 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2002 in the Abbey in Carbondale. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home.

Andrew Edmundson
FREEMAN SPUR -- Andrew Thomas Edmundson, 25 day old son of Heather Edmundson of 204 Center Street, Freeman Spur, Illinois died at 3:10 a.m., Friday, May 31, 2002 at his home. Andrew was born May 6, 2002 in Marion, Illinois. Andrew is survived by his mother and father, Heather Edmundson and Bryan Nickens of Freeman Spur, his grandmother, Carrie Edmundson, his uncle, David Edmundson both of Zeigler; his grandfather, David Edmundson of Tinley Park and a dear loving friend, Rick Orlandini of Zeigler. He will be remembered and missed by the families of the Edmundson's, Hubbard's, Miller's, Morgan's, and Nicken's. Funeral services for Andrew will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 4, 2002 at Vantrease Funeral Home in Zeigler with Brother Larry Hallman officiating. Burial will be at Zeigler Cemetery. Visiting hours are from 4 to 7 p.m., Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Andrew may be made to Heather Edmundson and will be accepted at the funeral home.

John Hillyard
COULTERVILLE -- John P. Hillyard, 68, died at 5:45 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2002 in Marion Memorial HospitaL. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Coulterville, with Rev. Kenneth Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Coulterville City Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday and from 8 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Coulterville Fire Department or Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children.

Kathryn Stoltz
ANNA -- Kathryn "Katy" Stoltz, 54, formerly of Anna, died at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 30, 2002, at her home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 3, at the Crain Funeral Home in Dongola, with Pastor E. James Rivett officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, June 2, at the Crain Funeral Home in Dongola. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at the Funeral Home.

Donald Blechle
CHESTER -- Donald T. Blechle, 59, died at 12:30 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2002 in Christian North East Hospital in Florissant, Mo. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home in Chester.

Mayme Evans
VIENNA -- Mayme Edna Evans, 82, died at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, May 30, 2002 in Southgate Health Care Center in Metropolis. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Bailey Funeral Home, with Bro. Jim Faughn officiating. Burial will be in Vienna Fraternal Cemetery. Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Berea Cemetery, c/o Clarence Allbritten, 5270 U. S. Highway 45 South, Vienna, IL 62995 or the New Columbia Masonic Cemetery, c/o Carl Crockett, 3417 Rice Hill Road, Grantsburg, IL 62943. Mrs. Evans worked as a book keeper for 28 years at Drovers State Bank and Banterra Bank. She had also worked as a book keeper for the Kentucky Lake Dam Project. She was a member of the Fourth Street Church of Christ in Vienna, having been baptized by Maurice Clymore in October of 1931. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. She also enjoyed reading and watching Stock Car racing. She was a graduate of New Columbia High School, Class of 1936. She was also a 1938 graduate of Draughons Business School in Paducah, Ky. She was born Jan. 24, 1920 in New Columbia to Elmer and Nellie Mae (Morgan) Brown. They preceded her in death. She was married to Wayne Evans Feb. 15, 1941 in Charleston, Mo. He preceded her in death March 5, 1990. Survivors include two sons, Jim Evans and his wife, Ann, of Vienna and Gale Evans and his wife, Patti, of Mount Vernon; four grandchildren, Mike Evans of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Michelle Evans of Vienna, Barrett Evans of Vienna and Tiffany Evans of Searcy, Ark. ; one great granddaughter, Maleia; two brothers, Carl Brown and his wife, Dorothy, of Metropolis and Guy Brown and his wife, Carolyn, of California. Two brothers, Ike and Lanus Brown, and one sister, Ofa Griesemer, preceded her in death.

Charles Vigiano
HERRIN -- Charles Vigiano, 77, died at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2002, in Herrin HospitaL. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 3, 2002, at Van Natta Funeral Home in Herrin, with Monsignor Kenneth J. Schaefer officiating. Burial will be in San Carlo Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Herrin VFW and American Legion. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Charles was born Jan. 30, 1925, in Du Quoin the son of Charles and Anette (Loiscomo) Vigiano. He married Angela Lovisa on Jan. 31, 1946, in Paris, France and Our Lady Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. Charles was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin. He worked as a truck driver all of his life with Egyptian Lines and Freightways over 20 years. He was a United States Veteran of World War II where he served in the European, Africa and Middle Eastern Theatre as a heavy truck driver in the ordinance depot. He received the Good Conduct Medal for his time served. He is survived by his wife, Angela Vigiano of Herrin; two sons, Frank and Jane Vigiano of Herrin and Jim and Pam Vigiano of Herrin; two daughters, Deborah Vigiano of Herrin and Ann and Dennis Rone of Herrin; a half-sister, Ann Otey of Herrin; a sister, Frances Zietick of Herrin; and four grandchildren, Dominique Vigiano of Herrin, James Robert Vigiano of Herrin, Christopher Rone of Herrin and Tracy Darlyn Rone of Herrin. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Charles Vigiano Jr. in 1955, half-sister, Lena Steinmetz and a brother, Joseph Vigiano.

Michael Palmisano
CHAMPAIGN -- Michael V. Palmisano, 79, died at 9:50 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2002 in Provena Covenant Medical Center in Urbana. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Holy Cross Church in Champaign, with Monsignor Albert Hallin officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Sunday, with a Wake service at 3:45 p.m. in Owens Funeral Home in Champaign. Memorials may be made, in lieu of flowers, to the Michael V. and Mary Jane Palmisano Scholarship Fund at Holy Cross SchooL. Mr. Palmisano was a carpenter at the University of Illinois Athletic Association for 33 years, until his retirement in 1981. He was a member of Holy Cross Church in Champaign. His interests included gardening, woodworking and Illini sports. He was a graduate of Champaign Central High SchooL. He served in the army during World War II. He was born Jan. 9, 1923 in Urbana to John and Augusta (Gentille) Palmisano. He was married to Mary Jane Stokes May 5, 1951 in Champaign. She preceded him in death May 19, 2000. Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Testory of Champaign; one son and daughter-in-law, Terry Michael and Beverly Palmisano of Pulaski; one brother, Francis Palmisano of Champaign; three sisters, Mary Spradley of Tulsa, Okla. ; two sisters, Catherine Palmisano and Theresa Palmisano both of Chicago; and five grandchildren.
