CHESTER -- Edna A. Cress, 88, died at 8:05 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2002 in Memorial Hospital in Chester. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home, with Rev. Marvin "Bud" Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Sunday and from 7:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. RED BUD -- Fern Everding, 76, of Steeleville, formerly of Red Bud, died Thursday, May 30, 2002 in Memorial Hospital in Chester. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. There will be no visitation. Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to either Preston United Methodist Church or St. John Catholic School in Red Bud. ELDORADO -- Bonnie Gertrude Barton, 86, died at 9:20 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2002, in her home. There will be no public services. Visitaiton will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado.
Inamae Lindsey
MARION -- Inamae Lindsey, age 85, of Marion, formerly of Chicago, passed away at 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2002, at her home. Inamae was born on January 19, 1917, in Russellville, Arkansas, the daughter of Arthur and Effie (Stanley) Lindsey. Shortly after her birth her family moved from Arkansas to Herrin, Illinois. She grew up in Herrin, and was a graduate of Herrin High SchooL. After graduation, at the age of eighteen, Inamae moved to Chicago, and remained there until about five years ago, when she returned to Marion, to be near her sister, Betty Jo Bush. Her lifetime working career was as a waitress for restaurants of the Chicago area. She did not retire from her lifetime career until she returned back to Marion recently. Some of her enjoyments other than her work was dancing and being a lover of cats. Her religious belief was of the Protestant faith. Her sister, Betty Jo Bush of Marion; sister-in-law, June Lindsey of Hollywood, Fla., several nieces, nephews and other family members survive her. Inamae was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Emmanuel, Howard and Wendell Lindsey; and one sister, Floye Lindsey. The funeral service for Inamae Lindsey will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2002, in the Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home of Marion, with Rev. Don Colson officiating. Interment will follow in the Eastlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery of Energy. The time of visitation will be between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 31, 2002, at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorial contributions to Hospice of Southern Illinois and mailed c/o Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home P. O. Box 370, Marion, IL 62959. Hosea Harris Jr.
TAMAROA -- Hosea R. Harris Jr., 51, of Tamaroa, passed away at 6:33 p.m., Wednesday, May 29, 2002 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin. Hosea was a retired coal mine examiner. He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church of Tamaroa. He was a member of the Du Quoin VFW Post 513. He was a US Army veteran of the Viet Nam War. He was born November 6, 1950 at Du Quoin the son of Hosea R. Harris Sr. He married Vicki Goforth May 22, 1971 at Tamaroa, IL and she survives. He is survived by his wife of Tamaroa, son- Andrew Shane Harris and wife Sharon of Tamaroa, two daughters- Rebecca LeAnn Harris of Tamaroa, Katie Lynn Harsy and husband Nathan of Tamaroa, brother- Steve Harris and wife Janet of Tamaroa, grandchildren- Jazzmine Sierra Crane and Kaci Marie Harris, step grandchild- Coy Alan Martin, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Hosea Harris, Sr., sister-in-law- Carole Bigham, close friend- Tony Winston. Funeral services will be at Noon, Sunday, June 2, 2002 at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa with Rev. Raymond Baggott officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturday at the Searby Fuenral Home in Tamaroa. Interment will be in the Tamaroa Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin VFW Post 513. Friends may make memorials to the Du Quoin VFW Post 513 and will be accepted at the funeral home.
Melvin A. Zimmerman
PERCY -- It has pleased our Father in heaven to summon to Himself Melvin Alms Zimmerman on Wednesday, May 29, 2002, at the age of 74 years, 10 months and 22 days. Melvin was born August 7, 1927, in Percy to Gustav and Esther Alms Zimmerman. He was baptized on August 14, 1927, and he confirmed his Christian faith on March 29, 1942 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Steeleville, where he was a lifelong member. He was united in marriage to Dorothy L. Heinks on April 19, 1952, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Chester. Melvin served in the United States Army from 1963-1955. He was a retired dairy farmer. Melvin was active in church and served on the Boards of Trustees and Stewardship. He was a member of the B. B. K. American Legion Post 480 in Steeleville. His parents and his wife, Dorothy, preceded him in death. Surviving relatives include a sister, Annette Kuehner and stepsisters Iona Caupert and Laurina Caupert, all of St. Louis; one daughter and one son-in-law, Kathryn J. and the Rev. Timothy J. Scharr of Nashville; one son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth M. and Julie Zimmerman of Houston, Texas; and three granddaughters, Katie Zimmeramn, Jennifer Scharr, and Kayla Scharr. Funeral services for Melvin will be on Saturday, June 1, at 2 p.m. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Steeleville with the Rev. Dr. Alan W. Janneke officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, May 31, 2002, at Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville, after 5 p.m. and on Saturday from 7:30 a.m. until Noon, then from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church. American Legion services will be at the funeral home Friday at 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to St. Mark's Lutheran School Building Fund. His body will be laid to rest at Paradise Cemetery in Steeleville to await the ressurrection on the Last Day.
