Erma Jordan
CORINTH -- Erma Jordan, of Corinth, died at 6:05 a.m. Tuesday May 28, 2002, in Herrin HospitaL. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 31, 2002, at the No. 8 Cemetery in Corinth, with the Rev. Tyrone Hartness officiating. Burial will be in the No. 8 Cemetery in Corinth. Arrangements are being made through the Murman & Wilson Funeral Home of Johnston City. There will be no visitation at the funeral home, friends are ask to go directly to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Erma was the daughter of Charles and Maggie (Ray) Beers. She was married to Ward Jordan on Dec. 24, 1949, in Piggott, Ark. She was a member of the Corinth Christian Fellowship Church. She was a cashier at Wal-Mart in Marion for over 22 years, before that she worked at Teletype in Franklin Park and owned her own business for 20 years. She is survived by her husband; two sons, Gene Jordan and wife, Cindy, of Corinth and Richard Jordan and wife, Sharon, of Corinth; two grandchildren, David and Miranda; five brothers and one sister, Eugene Beers and wife, Shirley, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Rawleigh Beers of Pittsburg, Dean Beers and wife, Phyllis, of St. Petersburg, Fla., Warden Beers and wife, Gail, of Corinth, Alberta Smiley and husband, Dale, of Pittsburg and Marvin Ray Beers and wife, Barbara, of Corinth; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, George Beers, a sister, Alpha Welter, and three sisters in infancy.
Opal Flora-Mescher
VIENNA -- Opal Flora-Mescher, 93, died at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2002, in Hillview Health Care Center in Vienna. She was born May 24, 1909, near Buncombe in Elvira Township the daughter of Henry Preston Harner and Ruby Melissa (Holmes) Harner. Opal was united in marriage to Cairl James Flora in Johnston City. He preceded her in death on Aug. 10, 1942. She was later united in marriage to Tim Mescher on Oct. 26, 1946 in Cairo. He preceded her in death on June 6, 1986. She is survived by two daughters, Virginia L. Basta of Vienna and Bonnie L. Flora of Vienna; a son, Val Gene Flora of Vienna; nine grandchildren, Lynn Ellen Snelling, Marvin J. Flora Jr., Robert Flora, Christina Flora, Douglas V. Flora, Lara M. Flora, Patricia Angela Andrick, Scott P. Flora and Shannan M. Flora; several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Hardison of Vienna and Earlene Penrod of Vienna; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Opal was preceded in death by a son, Marvin James Flora on March 3, 1990, four brothers, Paul, Carl, Elmer and Arthur Harner, four sisters, Mabel Brooks, Margaret Harner, Dimple Harner and Mildred Harner. Opal retired in 1971 from Anna State Hospital where she had been employed as a nurse. Previously, Opal had worked in the social services field and was employed in ammunitions manufacturing during World War II. Following her retirement, Opal worked as a home health nurse in Johnson, Massac and Union counties for the Shawnee Development CounciL. Opal was an active member of the Fellowship Baptist Church, where she had been a member of the church choir. Opal was a member of the Whistlers & Whittlers Senior Citizens Center and the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program (RSVP). She enjoyed quilting and crocheting. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna, with the Rev. Homer Harner and the Rev. Steve Lindsay officiating. Burial will be in the Vienna Fraternal Cemetery. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Whistlers & Whittlers Senior Citizens Center, 60 State Route 37 North, Boles, IL 62909 and will be accepted at the funeral home.
Ronald E. Brooks
HURST -- Ronald E. Brooks, 63, of Hurst, passed away at 3:58 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2002, in the Rehab and Care Center of Jackson County in Murphysboro. According to his wishes he will be cremated, there will be no services. Meredith-Blue Funeral Home in Marion is in charge of arrangements. Memorials maybe made to St. Jude Hospital or to donors choice and envelopes are available at the funeral home. Mr. Brooks was born on Nov. 10, 1938 in Seymour, Ind., to Chester and Geneva (Waggoner) Brooks. He married Sharon Olkoskin on March 22, 1963, in Lake Station, Ind. and she survives. Other survivors include two sons and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Anita Brooks of Hammond, Ind. and Robert Scott Brooks of Las Vegas, Nev. ; daughter and son-in-law, Tanya and Garry Lubarski of Gary, Ind. ; grandchildren, Eddie and Amanda Brooks, Vaughn and Madison Lubarski; brother, Charles and Judy Wright of Rantoul; and many family members on Sharon's side of the family that loved him very much. He was preceded in death by his parents and his step-father, Theodore Wright, who raised him. Mr. Brooks was a member of the Local 1010 United Steel Workers of East Chicago and a member of the American Legion Post No. 369 of East Chicago. He retired from Inland Steel Company in East Chicago, Ind., after 32 years. He was a six year United States Navy Veteran. Ronald loved to fish and was an avid baseball and basketball fan.
William Alan Falkenberry
AVA -- William Alan Falkenberry, 68, passed away Sunday, May 26, 2002, at the St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro. Mr. Falkenberry was born on September 15, 1933, at Jacob to Otis W. and Elizabeth Christine (Bowen) Falkenberry. He married Bettie A. Holden on December 31, 1959, at Tucson, Arizona. She passed away March 24, 1988. Mr. Falkenberry is survived by two sons, Emil Falkenberry of Ava and Carl Falkenberry of Murphysboro; four grandchildren; three brothers, Kenneth Falkenberry of Phoenix, Ariz., Sidney Falkenberry of Wheeling, Lyle Gregory Falkenberry of Creal Springs; two sisters, Edith Koch of Chester and Mary Lehr of Lansing, N. Y. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and one brother. Private graveside services were held Wednesday, May 29, in Glen Cemetery in Jacob, with Rev. Mike Kettner officiating. Memorials may be given to the Glenn Cemetery and will be accepted at the Wilson's Funeral Home in Ava.

JOHNSTON CITY -- Dianna Lynn Haase, 48, of Johnston City, died Monday May 27, 2002, at 6:55 a.m., at her family home. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2002, at Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City, with Rev. Larry Marrs officiating. Burial will be in Creal Springs Cemetery, in Creal Springs. Visitation will be after 5 p.m., Thursday, May 30 2002, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, envelopes available at the funeral home. Dianna was born Dec. 16, 1953, in Chicago, the daughter of L. D. and Dee (Stout) Hennesy. She married Richard Dale Haase on Dec. 23, 1974, in Marion. She was a Technician Representative at W. P. S. in Marion. She is survived by her husband, one son, Michael Douglas Haase of Pittsburg, one daughter, Richelle Lynn Craig of Johnston City, one grandson, Dale Wesley Parker, two sisters, Deanna Hayes and her husband Danny, of Johnston City, Linda Stepek of Johnston City, two nieces, Tammy Price and Tina Stepek. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Samuel Ray Dickerson
DOWELL -- Samuel Ray Dickerson, 54, of Dowell, passed away at 6:22 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2002, in the VA Medical Center in Marion. Samuel was a mine examiner. He was a Lutheran and a member of the Carbondale American Legion and the Du Quoin Masonic Lodge. He was a United States Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was born Aug. 8, 1947, at Carbondale the son of Robert and Ella (Verseman) Dickerson. He married Sherri Downs on Jan. 20, 1968, and they were married until 1993. He is survived by two sons, Brian and Stephen Dickerson, both of Dowell; and two brothers, Leon Verseman and Robert Dickerson. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 31, 2002, at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin, with the Rev. Gerald Wright officiating. Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
