Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home, with burial in Mueller Hill Cemetery, both in Pinckneyville. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
Patricia A. Parton
CARTERVILLE -- Patricia A. Parton, 73, died 11:15 a.m. Sunday, May 26, 2002, in her residence. Mrs. Parton was the night manager for Motel Marion in Marion and had formerly worked for Pulleys Barbecue in Marion for over 10 years. Patricia was a member of the First Church of God in Marion and took pride in taking care of her family and cooking meals during the holiday's. She was born April 7, 1929 in Marion to John and Pearl (Thompson) Watson. She was united in marriage to Herman E. Parton on May 12, 1963, in Marion. He preceded her in death on Oct. 15, 1997. Surviving are, two daughters, April D. Mitchell of Carterville and Penny Parton of Marion; a son, John "Jay" Parton of Herrin; four grandchildren, January "Jana" Fozzard of Carterville, Nicholas Jenning stationed in the United States Army at Fort Sill in Lawton, Okla., Shain Parton of Marion and Kim Turnage of Carterville; two great-grandchildren, Garret "G. W. " Fozzard, and Kyle Turnage, both of Carterville; brother-in-law, Charles Parton of Marion; sister-in-law, Margie Watson of Walla Walla, Wash. ; three nieces, Nancy Quick of Mount Vernon, Judy Tessle of Minnesota and Jeanie Craig of Marion; nephew, Greg Watson of Seattle, Wash. ; and close family friends, Barbara Nichelson of Marion, Anita Nichols of Marion and Mike and Pam Nichelson of Johnston City. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three brothers, Paul, Howard and Bill Watson and two sisters, Nancy Watson and Helen Walker. Services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2002, at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin, with the Rev. Maurice Absher officiating. Following cremation, private interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Marion. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials donations may be made to the family and will be accepted at the funeral home.
Carroll Cook
FLORA -- Carroll C. Cook, 76, died at 4:55 p.m. died Monday, May 27, 2002, in Clay County HospitaL. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the First Church of God in Flora, with Brother Larry Cook and Pastors Richard Artis and Vic Ackerson officiating. Burial will be in Cisne Cemetery in Cisne. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. today in Frank and Bright Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the First Church of God. Mr. Cook was a tool and die maker at Valley Steel for 13 years and at Sparton Manufacturing for 25 years. He was a member of the First Church of God in Flora. He was a past member and deacon at Blue Point Baptist Church. He was an avid woodworker and gardener and was a St. Louis Cardinal fan. He was known for his homegrown popcorn. He was born Jan. 21, 1926, in Wayne County to Larkin P. and Nellie (King) Cook. They preceded him in death. He was married to Barbara J. Spitzner Aug. 18, 1946, in Wayne County. She survives. Other survivors include one son, Larry C. Cook and his wife, Linda, of Sesser; one daughter, Linda Kay Ackerson and her husband, Vic, of Flora; five grandchildren, Angie Edgmon and her husband, Jeff, of Nashville, Tenn., Kimberly Workman and her husband, Nat, of Sheboygan, Wis., Emily Cook of Oklahoma City, Okla., Jonathan Paul Ackerson of Champaign and Tiffanie Renae Ackerson of Flora; and three great-grandchildren. Three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
Roy Handley
JOHNSTON CITY -- Roy Martin Handley, 74, formerly of Johnston City, died Thursday, May 9, 2002. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Lakeview Cemetery, with Rev. Bruce Horsley officiating. Cremation and memorial services were held in Cebu, Phillippines. Mr. Handley was employed by Gateway and Jewel trucking for 23 years. He was owner operator over the road driver until retirement. He was a United States Navy veteran. He was born Jan. 8, 1928 in Bloomington to Royal Robert Handley and Dorothy Quinn Handley. They preceded him in death. He was married to Caridad Villarba in Cebu, Phillippines June 23, 1972. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Myrna Handley of Waukegan and Mrs. Regina Handley Radaza and her husband, Joselito, of Cebu, Phillippines; four children from a previous marriage, Susan, Donna, Roy M. Jr. and Patricia; several grandchildren; seven brothers and sisters, Rose Christy, Joyce Vaughan, Robert Lee Handley and Robert James Barker Handley all of Ottumwa, Iowa, Elfreda Briscoe of Johnston City, Doris Barksdale of Streamwood, Raymond W. Handley and his wife, Rose, of Pell Lake, Wis. ; many nieces and nephews; lifetime friend and trucking buddy Jack and Diane Dyszczakowski of Johnston City and Colin Murphy of England.

Alice M. Jezek
MARION -- Alice M. Jezek, 86, passed away at 2:10 a.m. Saturday, May 25, 2002, at Marion Memorial HospitaL. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 30, at Mitchell- Hughes funeral home, with Dr. Bob Wagner officiating. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Marion. Visitation for Mrs. Jezek will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today, May 29, at the funeral home. She was born September 28, 1915 to James Roy Ramsey and Blanche Ramsey of Spillertown. She was married to Woodrow Wilson Jezek on November 6, 1937, in Charleston, Mo. He passed away September 28, 1998. She is survived by her son-in-law Clyde W. Lowe; her grandson Todd Lowe and his wife Karen, and their son Colby; her grandson Thad Lowe, his wife Leena, and their sons Alex and Kyle; her cousin Irma Murphy; and a host of dear friends. Her parents, her brother, William T. Ramsey, her daughter, Judy K. Lowe preceded her in death. Alice worked many years at Bracy Food Store and Food Town as a checker, and has been retired since the early 80's. Her husband, Woodrow, drove a truck for Henshaw Lumber. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Marion and a long time member of the community.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2002, at Murman & Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City, with Rev. Larry Marrs officiating. Burial will be in Creal Springs Cemetery, in Creal Springs. Visitation will be after 5 p.m., Thursday, May 30 2002, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, envelopes available at the funeral home. Dianna was born Dec. 16, 1953, in Chicago, the daughter of L. D. and Dee (Stout) Hennesy. She married Richard Dale Haase on Dec. 23, 1974, in Marion. She was a Technician Representative at W. P. S. in Marion. She is survived by her husband, one son, Michael Douglas Haase of Pittsburg, one daughter, Richelle Lynn Craig of Johnston City, one grandson, Dale Wesley Parker, two sisters, Deanna Hayes and her husband Danny, of Johnston City, Linda Stepek of Johnston City, two nieces, Tammy Price and Tina Stepek. She was preceded in death by her parents.
