Wanda I. Wells
WEST FRANKFORT -- Wanda I. Wells, 95, died at 1:30 a.m. Monday, May 27, 2002, at the Frankfort Care Center in West Frankfort. She was born September 22, 1906, in West Frankfort to Elmer Dorris and Kate (Karr) Dorris. She was married to Estel "Buck" Wells and he preceded her in death in 1961. Survivors include two sons, Gene Wells of West Frankfort and Wallace Wells and wife Marlene of West Frankfort; grandchildren Bobby Wells, Shirley Thomas and husband Danny, Larry Wells, Diane Curry and Buddy Thomas, all of West Frankfort, and Sandy Thomas of Colorado Springs, Colo. ; eight great grandchildren and sixteen great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, four brothers and daughter-in-law Agnes Wells. She was a member of the Third Baptist Church in West Frankfort. Funeral services for Wanda Wells will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 30, at the Parker Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort, with the Rev. Joe Zbinden officiating. Burial will be in the Denning Cemetery. Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, at the funeral home.
Doris Robinson
HERRIN -- Doris Robinson, 79, died Monday, May 27, 2002, in her home. Funeral services will be at 7:30 p.m. today in Van Natta Funeral Home, with Rev. Michael Neubert officiating. A private burial will take place in Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 until 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church in Herrin or Shawnee Alliance for Seniors and will be accepted at the funeral home. Mrs. Robinson was a homemaker. She graduated from Herrin High School in 1941. She was born April 20, 1923, in Clifford to Thomas and Floy (Ward) McClelland. They preceded her in death. She was married to James Albert Robinson, who preceded her in death Jan. 1, 1994. Survivors include two daughters, Carol Aronson and her husband, Carl, of Herrin and Sandy Williams and her husband, Mark, of Table Rock Lake, Mo. ; one son-in-law, Bob Furlow of Christopher; five sisters-in-law, Peggy Gower of Johnston City, Catherine McClelland of Urbana, Pauline Parish of Herrin, Ruby Restivo of Herrin and Betty Thompson of Herrin; eight grandchildren, Debbie Davison and her husband, Greg, of Christopher, Linda Eaton and her husband, Jim, of Thompsonville, Lisa Griffith and her husband, Roger, of Auburn, Bobby Joe Furlow of Christopher, Rick Williams and his wife, Jennifer, of Geneva, Jim Williams of Springfield, Knute Aronson of New Orleans, La. and Katie Aronson of Herrin; six great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and special friends and caregivers, Tammy Prosise and family of Ziegler and Betty Tucker. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Kathryn Furlow, and two brothers, Dan and Dudley McClelland.
Francis Miller
JONESBORO -- Francis P. Miller, 85, died at 3:21 p.m. Monday, May 27, 2002 in Union County Hospital in Anna. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home, with Revs. Charles Jennings and Marion Mosely officiating. Burial will be in Jonesboro Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 until 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Anna-Jonesboro High School sports program. Mr. Miller was a retired supervisor of more than 42 years with Florsheim Shoe Co. in Anna. He was an avid supporter of the A-J sports program and loved to fish and coon hunt. He was a past member of the Anna Kiwanis Club, the Anna-Jonesboro Elks Lodge and Anna Moose Lodge. He was born Dec. 13, 1916 in Wolf Lake to David L. and Alice Newbold Miller. They preceded him in death. He was married to Josephine Elam June 7, 1936 in Marion. She preceded him in death June 20, 1997. Survivors include two sons, Bill and wife Vicky Miller of Anna, David and wife Sandy Miller of Jonesboro; two daughters, Kay and husband Bob Hawkins of Memphis, Tenn, Mary Jane and husband Larry Lasley of Anna; one sister, Margaret and husband, Richard Karraker of Fairview Heights; eight grandchildren, Lisa Hanson, Bobby Hawkins, Kelly Ainsworth, Todd Lasley, Meredith Bunch, David Miller, Melissa Gilbert, Josie Miller; 12 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relative and many friends. Three sisters, Serena and Fannie Miller and Violet Butts, and two brothers, Harold and Louis Miller, preceded him in death.

John Dobill
ROYALTON -- John Dobill, 90, of 513 S. Royal Street, Royalton, died at 9:17 p.m., Saturday, June 26, 2004, in Herrin Hospital. John was born in Royalton on March 18, 1914, to Michael and Stella (Dvarzeski) Dobill. He married Lena Possanza on Jan. 28, 1939, in Royalton. She preceded him in death on Feb. 16, 2003. He is survived by a daughter, Lana Marie Dobill, two sons and daughters-in-law, John M. and Rita Dobill and David H. and Dixie Dobill, all of Royalton; four grandchildren, Dustin Dobill of Royalton, Shari Dobill of LeRoy, David and Bobbie Dobill of Bloomington and Dan and Kathy Dobill of Ames, Iowa; four great-grandchildren, Matthew, Angela, Alexandria and Celeste Dobill; a sister-in-law, Ann Dobill of Downers Grove; and several nieces and nephews. His parents, two grandsons, Daryl and Mark Allen Dobill, a brother, Pete Dobill, and a sister and brother-in-law, Joe and Ann (Dobill) Kadlubiak, also preceded him in death. John was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and Senior Citizens in Royalton. He was a resident of the Shawnee Christian Nursing Center in Herrin for the past four years. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener. He retired from Allen Industries in Herrin in 1979. A funeral Mass for Mr. Dobill will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 29, 2004, in St. Aloysius Church in Royalton, with Father Peter Hsu officiating. Burial will be in St. Aloysius Cemetery, east of Royalton. Visiting hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Vantrease Funeral Home in Royalton, where a rosary prayer service will be held at 7 p.m.Contributions in memory of Mr. Dobill may be made to St. Aloysius Church, the Alzheimer's Association of Southern Illinois or the donors' choice of charities. Thomas Dwight Burton
WEST FRANKFORT -- Thomas Dwight Burton, 76, of Mount Carmel, formerly of West Frankfort and Broughton, died at 12:19 p.m. Saturday, June 26, 2004, at home. He was born April 29, 1928, in West Frankfort to Thomas Jeff and Ada (Mocaby) Burton. He was married to Alberta (Groom) Burton, and she survives. Surviving besides his wife, Alberta, are four sons, Larry Burton and wife, Debbie, of Union, Ky., Tom Burton and wife, Cathy, of Herrin, Steve Burton and wife, Leann, of Mount Carmel and John Burton of Evansville, Ind. ; one daughter, Brenda Burton of Mount Carmel; five grandsons and three granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Delores Rotramel, Nora Burton and Charlean Summers, and a grandson, Chris Burton. Mr. Burton was a coal miner, having retired from Old Ben Coal Co. He was a member of Logan Church of God. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 29, 2004, in Parker-Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort, with the Rev. Melton Nelms officiating. Burial will be in the Douglas Cemetery, near Broughton. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Parker-Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort. Louise Howerton Lantrip
CAMBRIA -- Louise Howerton Lantrip, 81, of Cambria, died Saturday, June 26, 2004, in Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 30, 2004, at Riggin- Pillatsch Funeral Home in Carterville, with the Rev. Ed Martin officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the Diabetes Foundation. She was born on April 19, 1923, in Crainville to Charles and Minnie (Crain) Vaughn. She married Thomas Daton Howerton on Sept. 28, 1942, in Cape Girardeau. He preceded her in death Feb. 7, 1977. She then married Marion Orval Lantrip on June 15, 1985, in Hafer. He preceded her in death May 21, 2004. Clara is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Alice Lorraine and Curtis Messer of Tamaroa, Donna Rowatt and Kenny Dawkins of Royalton, Ina and Norman Burgess of Herrin, and Wanda and Joe Malston of Carterville; 18 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and nine stepchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Daton Howerton and Orval Lantrip; two sisters, Marie McNeill and Rose Ferguson; and one brother, Clarence Vaughn. Clara worked for 18 years in the dietary department at Herrin Hospital, where she performed various tasks. She was a full time minister since the age of 16 and attended the Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Marion. She enjoyed writing gospel songs, poems, preaching the gospel, and singing at various nursing homes in the area.

CHESTER -- Dan L. Magers, 85, died at 11:20 a.m. Saturday, June 26, 2004, in Chester Memorial Hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Welge-Pechacek Funeral Home in Chester, with the Rev. Mark Willig officiating. Burial will be in Paradise Cemetery, Steeleville. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday and 7:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the 150th anniversary of St. John Lutheran Church in Chester, St. John Lutheran School or St. Louis Zoo Friends Association.
Tootie Douglas
CHRISTOPHER -- Tootie Douglas, 77, died at 8:20 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 30, in Mulkeytown Cemetery. Those attending are asked to meet at the cemetery. Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Douglas was owner and operator of Douglas Jewelry. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was born Jan. 10, 1927, in Christopher to Lee Arthur and Hallie (Booth) Douglas. His wife, Shirley (Jenkins) Douglas survives.
