Lawrence Wiggins
MCLEANSBORO -- Lawrence L. Wiggins, 73, died at 10:53 a.m. Saturday, June 26, 2004, in Hamilton Memorial Hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Harre Funeral Home, with Brothers Gary Daugherty and Jay Vineyard officiating. Burial will be in Old Springer Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Carolyn Marie Greer
SWANWICK -- Carolyn Marie Greer, 87, of Swanwick passed away at 9:07 a.m. Sunday, June 27, 2004, in Pinckneyville Community Hospital. Carolyn was born in Du Quoin on April 1, 1917, the daughter of Charles E. and Otillie S. (Keiner) Bahre. She married Russel J. Greer on Sept. 18, 1935, in Du Quoin, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 13, 1951. After the loss of her husband in a mining accident, Carolyn worked on the family farm to support her family. Later in life, she also worked as a certified dietician at various hospitals and nursing homes. Carolyn was also an avid quilter, making numerous quilts for people throughout the United States. She enjoyed quilting with various groups including those at the Perry County Jail Museum, the Swanwick Cemetery Association and for her church, St. Paul United Church of Christ in Pinckneyville. At her church, she served on the Consistory, the Women's Guild, and taught Sunday School. She was a 4-H leader, an honorary member of the FFA, and was one of the presidents of the former Swanwick school board. She also served as the president of the Swanwick Party Line Phone Company and was active with the Swanwick Cemetery Association. Survivors include one daughter, Jo Ann Parsell and husband, Ron, of Coulterville; three sons, Dale Greer and wife, Roberta, of Pinckneyville, Marian Greer and wife, Barbara, of Coulterville, and Charles Greer and wife, Mary, of Pinckneyville; one son-in-law, Bill Kocian of Swanwick; 26 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter, Janet Kocian, a brother, Charles Bahre, a sister, Ruth Ibendahl, a grandson, Ronald Parsell, and a granddaughter-in-law, LaVonda Parsell (wife of Lyman Parsell). Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 29, 2004, in St. Paul United Church of Christ in Pinckneyville, with Rev. Howard Self officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home in Pinckneyville. Memorials may be made to the Perry County Jail Museum or Swanwick Cemetery Association.

HERRIN -- Edward C. 'E. C. ' Russell, 85, died at 2:15 p.m. a.m. Sunday, June 27, 2004, at Herrin Hospital. Arrangements are incomplete at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin.

HERRIN -- Mark Gonzalez, 37, died at 12:04 a.m. Sunday, June 27, 2004, in Herrin Hospital. Arrangements are incomplete at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin.

Roy E. Kelley
MARION -- Roy E. Kelley, 77, passed away at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, 2002, in Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion. He was born on Aug. 30, 1925, the son of Roy and Lillie Maude (Potter) Kelley. Roy attended the Marion school system, and was a graduate of Marion High SchooL. Roy answered the call of this nation on Nov. 26, 1943, serving in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He served faithfully until the time of his honorable discharge on April 20, 1946. He had attained the rank of seaman second class, and had received The Victory Medal, American Area Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal with one star and The Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two stars. He was united in marriage to Bertha Geraldine Oliver on July 29, 1947, in Marion. Together they have shared over 55 years of marriage. His working career began after service with the Chrysler Corp. of Detroit, Mich., for several years. After returning to Marion, he purchased and operated a pool room in Zeigler for several years. He later began working for the U. S. Postal Service as a mail carrier in Marion for 29 years until his retirement on Jan. 31, 1986. Roy was a Protestant. His other affiliations included being a lifetime and past post commander of Heyde-Pillow VFW Post 1301 of Marion, and he also was a member of Fellowship Lodge No. 89 AF&AM of Marion. He was an avid reader and loved gardening. He is survived by his wife, Bertha, of Marion; three daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela and John Browning of Marion, Sharon and Lyndell Fuller of Linton, Ind., and Kay and Jeff Edwards of Pittsburg, Ill. ; nine grandchildren, Dr. Roy Jason Browning of Paducah, Ky., John Kevin Browning of Marion, Dr. Kelly Cunningham of Martinsville, Ind., Lena Kay Odum of New Burnside, Ind., Nicole Ruble of Evansville, Ind., Dana McInturff of Creal Springs, Wynter Deckman of Evansville, Ind., Jamie Adams of Marion and Tara Odum of Creal Springs; eight great-grandchildren, JoAnna Browning of Paducah, Ky., Stetson Fox of New Burnside, Hannah Browning of Marion, Logan Browning of Paducah, Ky., Zander Cunningham of Martinsville, Ind., Zechariah Browning of Marion, Jackson Marks of Creal Springs and Abbie Adams of Marion; and several nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Dimple Elliott and Juanita Bedwell, and two brothers, Kenneth and Wendell Kelley. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002, in Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home of Marion, with Dr. Bob Wagner officiating. He will be assisted by Dr. R. Jason Browning, who is the grandson of Mr. Kelley. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery of Marion, with military honors being conducted by Heyde-Pillow VFW Post 1301 of Marion. Jessie Louise Harrell Taylor
CARBONDALE -- Jessie Louise Harrell Taylor (Jerry) was born June 20, 1914, to Helen Armintha Jenkins and Jesse Staley Harrell in Urbana. Her father was there on temporary assignment with the Illinois Central Railroad. The family returned to Carbondale shortly thereafter, and she lived there until her death on Dec. 23, 2002. Members of the Jenkins family had played a significant role in early Brownsville and Jackson County history. Later they were instrumental in the founding and development of the Illinois Central Railroad. Mrs. Taylor attended local public schools and Southern Illinois Teachers College (Southern Illinois University). She was a member of Delta Sigma Epsilon (now Alpha Gamma Delta), with which she maintained a lifetime active affiliation. She married William Loren Taylor, of Benton, on June 30, 1934, in St. Louis, Mo. He predeceased her on Jan. 2, 1967. Mr. Taylor was a longtime employee of the Kroger Company and had strong heritage in Williamson and Franklin counties. Known for her keen interest in a wide range of endeavors, she was an active participant in the First United Methodist Church, Beta Sigma Phi, the Antique Study Club, Amateur Garden Club, and Jackson Country Club. She was a strong presence on the golf course for many summers. She mastered the game of bridge early on and many times had "high score. " Her love of design, style and quest for detail were qualities which she drew upon during an active real estate brokerage for several years. She was respected by her peers and was a mentor to many. She will be remembered for her elegance and sense of style under all circumstances. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her younger brother, James William HarrelL. Her survivors include her son, Dr. Richard Loren Taylor and his wife Alice of Corpus Christi, Texas; her daughter, Mrs. Edward J. Wolczak (Sallie) of Carpentersville; one sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Wallace (Mary Catherine Harrell) of Carbondale; grandchildren including Richard L. Taylor, Jr., of Dallas, Texas, Robert Wesley Taylor and his wife Lisa of Dallas, Texas, Lance Scott Stahl and his wife Jodi and their daughter Emma Marin of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Jason William Stahl of Anchorage, Alaska; two nephews, Andy Wallace of Carbondale and James Scott Harrell of Knoxville, Tenn. ; and one sister-in-law, Mrs. J. W. Harrell (Wilma) of Knoxville, Tenn. Family graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today, Saturday, Dec. 28, at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Carbondale. Visitation with the family will follow at the church. Those who desire may direct memorials to First United Methodist Church, 214 W. Main St., Carbondale, IL 62901.

Dale O. Oslund Jr.
ANNA -- Mr. Dale O. Oslund Jr., 44, of Anna, formerly of Aurora, died at 5:38 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at his home in Anna. He was born April 21, 1958, in Aurora, the son of Dale O. and Donna Jean Hubbard Oslund Sr. He married Karen D. Collman on Oct. 5, 1978, in Aurora. She survives. He was an employee of the village of Cobden until his illness, and had served honorably for six years in the U. S. Marine Corps. He was a big supporter of Ducks Unlimited. He is survived by his wife, Karen, of Anna; one son, Dale "Butch" (Courtney) Oslund III of Fort Bragg, N. C. ; one daughter, Stephanie (Travis) Bradley of Anna; his parents, Dale O. and Donna Jean Oslund Sr. of Owatonna, Minn. ; four sisters, Deana Oslund of Aurora, and Doreen Culver, Debra Johnson and Darla Oslund, all of Owatonna, Minn. ; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and one brother, Donald Oslund. Dale will be missed greatly by his family and many friends. Services for Mr. Dale O. Oslund Jr. will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30, at the Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Cobden, with the Rev. Clifford Heil officiating. Interment will be in the Cobden Cemetery. Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455 will conduct full military honors at the graveside. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 29, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
