MARION -- Nellie Pearl Abney, 102, passed away at Fountain Nursing Home in Marion at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002. Graveside services were Monday at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Dr. Joey Brent officiated. Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Nellie was born in Williamson County on April 23, 1900, to Filo and Melvina (Allen) Turner. She married Archie Abney in Union City, Tenn. He preceded her in death on May 17, 1959. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Marion, and was in the Loyalty Sunday school class. She was also a 50-year member of LeRoy A 350 Order or Eastern Star and White Shrine. She was a member of Marion Senior Citizens and Marion Memorial Auxiliary. Survivors include nephews, Robert Turner of Belleville and Marshall Turner of Eddyville, Ky. ; and niece, Marilyn Childers of Marion. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers Orel, Howard, and Arley Turner; niece, Carolyn Sandlin; and nephews, Charles Turner and Paul Turner.

HERRIN -- Beverly Joyce Reed, 70, died Monday, Dec. 23, 2002, in Herrin HospitaL. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Van Natta Funeral Home, with the Rev. Naomi Carter officiating. Burial will be in Herrin City Cemetery. Mrs. Reed worked at Maytag for 30 years. She was a BaptiSt. She was born June 29, 1932, in Bend, Ore., to Lloyd and Erly Leona (Wheeler) Brice. She married Jeffrey L. Reed. He survives. Other survivors include one stepson, Matthew Reed of Marion; one daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Thomas Shelton of Herrin; one stepdaughter and her husband, Jennifer and Chris White; two grandchildren and a spouse, Brandon Shelton and Kim and Robert Inboden Jr. ; four great-grandchildren, David, Megan, Sarah and Tyler Inboden of Herrin; and three stepgrandchildren, Aaron, Kiely and Tyler White of Gunnison, Colo. Her parents and one brother, Stanley Brice, preceded her in death.

JOHNSTON CITY -- Scott E. Chenowerth, 36, of Johnston City passed away at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, in Marion. Scott was born in Marion on Aug. 2, 1966, the son of Frank and Charmaine (Smothers) Chenowerth. Scott was employed by Crownline Boats of West Frankfort, and was a BaptiSt. Scott is survived by his parents, Frank and Charmaine Chenowerth of Johnston City; his stepgrandmother, Lou Ann Smothers of Marion; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Sybil Smothers and J. C. Smothers, and his paternal grandparents, Ray and Leda Chenowerth. The memorial service for Scott E. Chenoweth will be at noon Thursday, Dec. 26, at the Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home in Marion, with the Rev. Don Colson officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday.
