MCLEANSBORO -- Beverly Ann (Hagfeldt) Wiggins, 66, died at 10:22 p.m. Dec. 19, 2002, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro. Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro, with the Rev. Robert Sefried, Brothers David Wiggins and Jay Vineyard officiating. Burial will be in Old Springer Cemetery in McLeansboro. Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Larry R. Modglin
MOUNDS -- Larry R. Modglin, 57, of Mounds, formerly of Tamms, died at 2:45 p.m. Monday, July 19, 2004, at his home. Mr. Modglin was born June 24, 1947, in Cairo, the son of the late Raymond Modglin and Agnes (Berry) Modglin Wilson. Mr. Modglin was a Vietnam veteran. He was a former village marshal of the city of Tamms. He was a former member of the Cairo Police Department and retired after 27 years as control room operator with the Tamms Department of Corrections. Survivors include a daughter, Laura Smith of Cairo; a brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Lily Modglin of Mounds; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Cliff Parrish of Marion, Ky. ; three stepbrothers, Louis, Charles and Richard Wilson, all of Mounds; two grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge, with the Rev. Raymond Oxford officiating. Interment will be in Mound City National Cemetery, with full military honors by members of the Pulaski County VFW Post 8891 of Mounds. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

MARION -- Ted Scott Beveridge, 68, of Marion passed away at 12:25 p.m. Sunday, July 18, 2004, at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion. Services will be held at 2 p.m. today, July 22, 2004, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, north of Johnston City, with Bishop Lewis Russell officiating. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. today, July 22, 2004, at the church. Burial will be at Logan Cemetery in Logan, Utah. Blue Funeral Home in Marion is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Envelopes will be available at the church and are available at the funeral home. Memorials may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, P. O. Box 411, Marion, IL 62959. Mr. Beveridge was born on April 11, 1936, in Price , Utah, to George F. and Lillie (Rowley) Beveridge. He married Colleen White on Feb. 8, 1958, in Tooele, Utah, and she survives. Other survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Stacey Lynn and Scott Frost of Stansbury Park, Utah; son and daughter-in-law, Gregory Scott and Joan Beveridge of Logan, Utah; son and daughter-in-law, Major Christopher James and Maria Beveridge in the United States Army stationed in Germany; and daughter and son-in-law, Heather Anita and Tony Crites of Stansbury Park, Utah; grandchildren, Kelli and Doug Jamison, Kyle Frost, Whitney Frost, Ciera Beveridge, Tori Beveridge, James Beveridge, Logan Beveridge, Davis Beveridge, Aidan Beveridge and Alyssa Crites; sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda and Mel Fonnesbeck and Ann and Jim Parkinson, all of Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Beveridge retired as a director of purchasing in the mining industry. He currently was involved with the Natural Enrichment Industries Co. in Sesser. He was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in the U. S. Army, where he was stationed in Germany.
Marjorie Schutter
TUNNEL HILL -- Marjorie L. Schutter, 83, of Archorage, Alaska, formerly of Tunnel Hill and Carbondale, died Friday, July 16, 2004, at Elmendorf Air Force Base Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska. She was born May 9, 1921, in Tunnel Hill, to John McHugh and Myrtle (Corbit) McHugh. She grew up in a rural area near Tunnel HilL. She also lived in Carbondale and Kalamazoo, Mich., as a student. She also lived from 1947 to 1952, Romulus, Mich. ; 1952 to 1954, Huntington, Ind. ; 1954 to 1959, Milan, Mich. ; 1969 to 1963, Stephens Point, Wis., and from 1963 to 1975, Orange City, Iowa. She moved to rural Princeton, Kan., in 1975, and Anchorage, Alaska, in July of 2001. Marjorie graduated from Carbondale High School with the class of 1940. In 1942, she graduated from Southern Illinois University with a teaching certificate. In 1947, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Western Michigan University and received her Masters of Arts in Library Science from the University of Michigan in 1962. Marjorie was a teacher and professor at several schools. From 1942 to 1943, she taught at Mount Olive School in Vienna; from 1947 to 1952, was English teacher and librarian at Romulus High School in Michigan; 1063 to 1954, English instructor at Huntington College in Indiana; 1954 to 1959, Milan High School in Michigan; from 1964 to 1975, English instructor and librarian at Northwestern College, Orange City, Iowa; and, 1976 to 1987, English teacher and school librarian at Williamsburg High School in Kansas, retiring in 1987. After her retirement, she substitute taught at Williamsburg schools in Kansas from 1981 to 1992. From 1904 to 1999, she was a teacher at Small World, International ESL Program in Lawrence, Kan. She served in the U. S. Women's Army Air Corps from March 29, 1943, to Oct. 21, 1946, during World War II, attaining the rank of corporaL. She received commendations including Good Conduct Medal, two Overseas Service Bars and a European African Middle Eastern Ribbon with five Bronze Service Stars. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Lawrence, Kan. In recent years, she had been attending First Presbyterian Church in Anchorage, Alaska. She was also a member of the Association of American University Women, of which she was the 1996 Outstanding Member; American Association of Retired Teachers, serving as Vice-President in 1995; and American Association of Retired Persons. On June 17, 1944, Marjorie was united in marriage with Howard Nelson Schutter at Tacoma, Wash. He preceded her in death on Aug. 25, 1993. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 23, 2004, at the Dengel and Son Mortuary, with the Rev. Ray Fancher of First Presbyterian Church in Lawrence, Kan. Mrs. Schutter will lie in state at the Dengel and Son Mortuary, where the family will meet with friends 7 to 8 p.m. today. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery in Ottawa, Kan., with military honors by Warren Black Post 060 American Legion. Marlene G. Nicholson
MARION -- Marlene G. Nicholson, 50, died at 10:25 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at Herrin HospitaL. Marlene was born Sept. 22, 1953, in Marion to Virgil and Roberta "Bert' (Lewis) Morgan. She married Steve L. Nicholson on April 3, 1976, and he survives in Marion. Marlene was a homemaker. Survivors include her mother, Roberta "Bert" Morgan of Marion; two sons, Heath B. Nicholson and wife, Traci, of Marion and William L. Nicholson of LaFayette, Ind. ; a daughter, Alicia Kessel and husband, Bryan, of Marion; four grandchildren, Morgan and Madison Kessel and Justin and Makayla Nicholson, all of Marion; three brothers, Lester and Carol Morgan and Virgil and Kay Morgan, all of Marion, and Bob and Adele Morgan of Shelbyville; and one sister, Crystal Morgan of Marion. She was preceded in death by her father. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion, with the Rev. Robbie Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery. Ellen J. Treece
COBDEN -- Mrs. Ellen J. Treece, 72, died at 4:20 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at Fair Acres Nursing Home in Du Quoin. She was born Feb. 15, 1932, in Alto Pass, the daughter of Thomas Allen and Hazel Juanita Fisher Sims. She was united in marriage to Paul Eugene "Mud Jack" Treece. He preceded her in death on March 19, 1989. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cobden. She worked as a nurse's aide at Hillside Terrace in Cobden for several years. She is survived by two daughters, Rebecca and husband, Frank Buerkle, of Du Quoin and Susie Hand of Columbia; six sons, Danny and wife, Edith Chism, of Blytheville, Ark., Gary Treece of Jennings, Fla., Donald Treece of Freeburg, Billy and wife, Linda Treece, of Anna, Red Treece of Carbondale and Tim Treece of Freeburg; six grandchildren, Chrystal Hand, Nikki Dean, Meghan Treece, Eric Treece, Austin Ralls and Christina Chism; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Roy Sims of Buncombe; seven sisters, Geneva Trexler of Cobden, Mildred Sims of West Frankfort, Lula Donas of Carbondale, Betty Odum and husband of West Frankfort and Wanda Kerley of Terre Haute, Ind. ; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three brothers, Jack, Floyd and Marshall Sims. Services for Mrs. Ellen J. Treece will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 23, 204, at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Cobden, with the Rev. Rex Goforth officiating. Interment will be in Alto Pass Cemetery. WEST FRANKFORT -- Peggy Ann (McGhee) Downs, 38, of West Frankfort died at 9:23 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2004, in Benton. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in East Fork Cemetery in West Frankfort, with the Rev. Larry Lemay officiating. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at Union Funeral Home in West Frankfort. Peggy was born Aug. 8, 1965, in Benton to William and Mary Sue (Calvert) McGhee. She was a postal carrier in Christopher. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in West Frankfort. Survivors include her husband, Gerald Downs of West Frankfort; parents, William and Mary Sue McGhee of West Frankfort; two brothers, Matt McGhee of Atlanta and Christopher McGhee of Benton; six sisters, Nancy Seibert, Rosemary and Steve Elam and Bridget and Jame Herrell, all of West Frankfort, Sally and Allan Watson of St. Petersburg, Fla., Theresa and Dan Grant and Pricilla and Steve Matlie, all of Palmyra; stepson, Gerald Downs Jr. of Herrin; stepdaughters, Daye and Rex Roach of Marion and Dalus and Richard Kulich of Dongola; two grandchildren, Kaitlynn Kulich and Adria Downs; father-in-law, Loyd Downs of West Frankfort; sister and brothers-in-law, Gloria and Denzil Stubblefield of West Frankfort, Glendell Loyd and Glenda Downs of Benton and Brenda Devoto of Buncomb; and several nieces and nephews.

GOREVILLE -- Eula Stanley, 97, of Goreville died at 4:15 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at Fountain Nursing Home in Marion. Services will be at Blue Funeral Home in Goreville at 1 p.m. Friday, July 23, 2004. Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Cana Cemetery in Goreville. Mrs. Stanley was born Sept. 23, 1906, in Goreville to Sammuel Ed and Matilda (Thornton) BurkloW. She married Francis "Pete" Stanley, and he preceded her in death. She is survived by her cousins and longtime caregiver, Rubeena Stevens of Marion. She was preceeded in death by her husband; two sons, Billy Roe and Larry Stanley; and her brother, Lawrence BurkloW. Mrs. Stanley was a longtime member of the Goreville United Methodist Church. She was a retired licensed practical nurse at Norfolk Nebraska State Hospital.
